A change of life required effort. There for effort required a change in behavior and ...
Round and round her mind went in circles as she managed to wander away from the Ghost dorms on a small walk about to actually clear her head. Lattice was trying to free herself of her fears and uncertainties about the future. Things had taken a turn for the very different for her. Her plans and desires no longer included the welfare of the Clan or even just working for them.
Yet, would they let her go that easily? Unlikey.
Lattice paused and cast a gaze around. All of it was blurs and uncertain shades of colors often mottling into black and white. Shadow and light, a little bit of gray.
Quietly the Engraver seated herself on a bench and tried to work out what she wanted in life now that she was on a path that lead away from her once future plans.

Hel rubbed her bandaged cheek, as she meandered down the path a bit stiffly, and yawned. Damn. She hadn’t gotten her a** kicked in a long while…and it showed. She also had some scrapes she needed to get rid of before prom, because yes, she was vain like that, hence the bandaged packed with soothing ointment. Up head, she glanced at the figure on the bench, and paused, her brows furrowing. Oh…oh! She remembered her! It’d been a while, hadn’t it? Hel thought about it. Oh…a really long while. When was the last time Hel spoke to that ghost? Was it…after the…Haunted House? Oh Jack. Wow. She kept horrible track of others… Granted, she had seen another ghoul who looked like her, but wasn’t her, floating around with what she thought was Muka…but hey…what did she know? Huh… The reaper wandered up to the ghoul, resting one hand on her hip while the other still rubbed her covered cheek. “Oi!” She greeted. “Been a while, ya?”

Lattice was so deep within her own mind for a moment or two that the sudden call of 'Oi' managed to make her jump a bit in her seat. The Engraver tilted her head over toward the figure of Hel and for a few moments she didn't recognize it. The shape had changed a great deal from how Lattice had seen it those months ago past.
The ghoul stood up and wandered a little closer, "Hel...? Is that you? It has been a while. How delightful to see you once again," she said with a little warmth creeping into her otherwise monotone voice.

A while was a serious understatement. Hel chuckled regardless, looking at the ghoul as she stood and moved over to her. “Ha…ya…” She replied. “Ya…it is good to see you as well…” She took in her appearance. “…You look good!” Different than the last time she had seen her…that much she could remember at least.
“Going to prom? It is this weekend…How has school been treating you?”

Lattice tipped her head with a small nod, "Thank you. You seem well, too."
Saying that her friend looked great seemed a fruitless effort as Lattice couldn't quite see the Valkyrie other than the shape of her. It was pleasant but it also didn't seem proper to really mention it.
"I am going to prom. I am going with My Petro," she sounded a little excited at the prospect. "Are you going as well?"

“Ya, I am.” The ghoul replied with a nod. Oh…Petro! Wow, she hadn’t spoken to the boil in… forever. Since her first year? Wow...where did the time go? Yikes. Apparently him and Lattice were a thing too? Okay then. That was cool. “Well good, I am glad to hear that!” She replied. “Ah, ya, I am! I am taking a first year for the first half, because if I do not then no one will, and then I am going with my ah… best friend for the second half.”

"That is wonderful. I think it is very sweet of you to take a first year for the first half," Lattice said with a bit of a smile. The Engraver couldn't picture going with anyone but Petro at this point. Perhaps going with others as a group of friends as long as Petro was involved but..
She shifted her shoulders in a sort of uneasy fashion.
"Have you been getting into any new mischief? It seems like forever since we had talked. I feel as if I do not know you as well anymore," Lattice gave a small chuckle, still monotone but it held a little more life in it now.

Hel may have looked a bit embarrassed as Lattice praised her for being sweet of all things…luckily the ghoul couldn’t see very well. “It is nothing.” She dismissed with a wave, and then laughed. “Any new mischief?” She asked. “That is all day everyday, friend.” She replied, and trailed off as she thought about it. Wow…it had been a really long time since she spoke to Lattice as well. Really, the last time she could clearly remembering interacting with the ghoul was during their field trip to the Haunted House. That was a really long time ago. The reaper moved past the ghost, only to take a seat on the bench that Lattice had been sitting on prior. It just felt like one of those times that they were going to need to sit. “Ah…that is because a lot of time has passed, and I imagine we both have changed in that long stretch of time.”

Lattice let out a small quiet laugh, "I envy your ability to be so mischievous, I cannot seem to bring myself to prank or do anything of the sort." The Engraver let the other ghoul sit next to her with no protest or discomfort. She liked Hel, despite some of their rougher starts.
There was just something enlightening about talking with Hel sometimes.
"I suppose I have changed a little, but not as much as you seem to have. You have an air about you that is much different than the ghoul I used to know. It is a little like making a new friend all over again," Lattice didn't seem sad or despondent about this. If anything she seemed excited.
There was a pause in Lattice's talk, a sign of subject change, "I've been considering leaving my clan. Well...Not just considering. I suppose I've decided already but..."

“Jeepers, what is with you ghouls and no pranking?” Hel asked, not really expecting an answer. Between Belladonna and Lattice now...how could they not prank? “It is really not hard at all, Lattice.” Hel replied with a bit of a laugh. “If anything I actually have to try and mind myself around others.” The reaper then snickered as Lattice proclaimed that she was like a new friend. “Oh ya? Well…that is alright!” The ghoul tilted her head as Lattice paused, and blinked.
Oh, wait, leaving her clan huh? That struck a chord in the ghoul, who was practically on the trek as well. “…But…?” She urged.

Lattice laughed lightly and shook her head, "Oh. It is not for the lack of trying, Dearest Hel. I have pulled a thing or two in my time when I could get away with it or find a loophole but ... for the most part I was mostly well behaved. My twin was the more rambunctious one," she explained quietly. "For the most part I was ... very well behaved. Consequences for misbehavior are very steep at home..."
"Well it is not easy to just leave our clan. We cannot just say we are going to no longer be apart of them and go out the door..." Lattice said quietly she started fidgeting a little bit. "It is ... very unlikely that they will just let us go, without a word said."
"Needle and I are trying to figure out how to go about it but we are united about this at least," Lattice smiled a little.

Her twin oooooh…so maybe her sister was here then, and that was the ghoul she was seeing around with Muka? Made sense… Hel tilted her head as she listened to Lattice, and her brows furrowed. “…Well…if all they will throw your way is words…then what are you worried about? Words can not physically bind you to the clan, or make you go back.”
That seemed pretty easy to overcome in Hel’s opinion.

"It is more than words," she said softly and her fingertips moved to touch upon her needles embedded into her arms. Symbols of dedication, pain, triumph, and more. There was just something about them.
Lattice shifted in her seat she almost seemed anxious all over again but that couldn't be helped, the subject filled her with dismay and excitement all at once. "You see...You do not simply leave our clan. The Elders will do torturous things to those of us that wish to leave. Over and over, sometimes until our fear core breaks..." A touch of fear touched her voice.
"We have had to partake in such rituals before..." She added softly. The sound of bells echoed in her mind, terrifying and soothing all at the same time.

Hel eyed the needles on Lattice’s arms, and as she spoke, she her face twisted in thought. Huh…that was pretty intense. Hel now realized she had it well…pretty easy, compared to what Lattice was facing. Sure, if her family ever found out she wasn’t planning on coming back or claiming them, they’d be very upset, and maybe come after her…but that was only if they could find her.
Find her…
“Ah!” Hel perked up, as if this thought might help. “So what if you just disappeared then? Out from underneath them?” Lattice was thinking about leaving, so that obviously meant she was taking this rather seriously, even knowing what the risks were.

Lattice considered the suggestion, "Disappear out from under them? Will they stop looking? I somehow am not sure..." She let out a small hum of thought as she mulled over the things.
"Explain to me this idea of disappearing out from under people?" She asked quietly.
