Ulfric had been keeping an eye on this place for some time, and seen some of the lions that came and went though the area. They looked strong, and this place seemed proud and determined, not like some of the weaker, friendlier places he had passed through in his journeys. This was a place of strength, where a lion could put his paws down and truly begin to build his legacy.
That was what the large lion with the bear on his hide needed.
He had witnessed the joining process, and knew enough from observation that he needed to find someone to challenge. And that was what he was here to do. Drawing his head up, taking a deep breath, he filled his lungs and then let escape a mighty roar, loud enough to shake the stones at his feet.
That should do by way of introduction to his intention.

Olaf nearly jumped out of his fur when he heard a mighty roar break over the landscape. It seemed to shake his very bones, echoing through the open space proud and strong. Blinking, he found himself already on his feet, having sprang up from his nap with quite the start. Oh well- better go see what was going on, then. He ventured to the borders of the pride, in the direction he heard the call. There, he saw a mighty lion standing not far from him. A true warrior, by the looks of him. Wow. It seemed like he had only one reason for being there- it looked like his body was poised for a confrontation. Well, that was how one went about joining the pride. Either this guy was looking for someone to take on to gain entrance, or he was there to cause some trouble. Whatever the case ended up being, Olaf was excited. Someone to fight! "If you're looking for a challenge, you got one!" he called right away, all but bounding towards the big boy, "bring it on, loud mouth!"

Ulfric was surprised to see the large lion bounding toward him, looking excited and eager as he was. It was like a child in a game, and Ulfric was not here to play. He imagined this lion was going to be a push over, and this fight would be all too disappointing.
He braced himself, then ducked to the side as Olaf came at him, swinging his paw but landing only a glancing blow as he focused more on getting out of the way rather than attacking in his own right.
It had been a while since he'd been in a true fight. Not since that leopard, and that had been a different situation entirely. They had been trying to kill each other. Ulfric was not sure that was really the goal here, so he would have to hedge his bets and just try to go for the win.
He didn't believe in bantering, not really, so he kept his mouth shut and readied for the next attack.

This guy seemed like the quiet type. That was alright- maybe he had used up all his voice roaring like he had. In any case, he didn't need to chat while he was in the middle of a fight. He just wanted to get things done. So he, too, stopped with the banter, specifically when the first shot grazed by him. Though the paw had missed its mark for the most part, Olaf could still see that the force behind it had been great.
This gut was a strong one, there was no doubt about it.
He jumped to the side and spun himself around, facing off with the larger lion once more. Being big didn't mean you won automatically, right? He charged forward, slamming into the other's shoulder roughly just to try and knock him off his balance. Then he would be able to swoop in with another attack. He grinned as he rammed the other, pleased with how the fight was going, even though it had only just started.
It was going to be a good fight, he could just feel it.

Ulfric snarled at him, baring his teeth and letting out a terrible growl. Nothing like the roar he had given out earlier, but still vicious and determined. He was not going to go down easily, and he did not think his opponent could beat him, just going off first impressions.
Which was probably a bad idea, in the end.
He was not anticipating the smaller lion to slam into him, not used to those kinds of tactics. He went stumbling backwards, nearly falling over completely, though he swung one of his hefty paws in an effort to stop the attack or at least counter it as best as he could.
He didn't like Olaf's grinning face very much.

Olaf plowed through the counter attack with a snarl of his own, though he had to admit, his voice was nothing compared to the other lion's. It seemed like the lion he was fighting, whose name he didn't even know, was both bark and bite. It wasn't like he was having an easy time dodging attacks. That last one, actually, kind of hurt a lot. The large paw had smacked him right in the shoulder, though he was pumping too much adrenaline to really acknowledge whether or not it had made a gash. He was hoping it had just been a heavy thunk.
Bleeding slowed him down.
Keeping his momentum from his previous attack, he threw his claws forward, aiming for the other lion's midsection. He always felt that was the best area to go to wound another lion into submission. If he wanted to kill him, maybe he would have gone for the neck. But the guy DID have a pretty big mane to get through.

Ulfric was winded already from the first attack, and his shoulder was already beginning to ache. That meant it was going to be giving him a lot of trouble through out the rest of the fight, which was the last thing he needed. He had underestimated this lion's ability, just because he had been chipper and eager.
It had been mistaken for inexperience and weakness.
He snarled when he saw the attack coming, but could do little to get out of the way of it. He felt the claws raking his side, and pain blossomed through his body like a small explosion. He used it to spurn him forward, and he leaped low, basically skidding across the ground, to chomp on Olaf's foreleg.
If he could get proper leverage, he might be able to haul the lion off his feet. Or just hurt his leg and slow him down. He felt his own blood running down his body, though, and knew he was pushing his limits.

The smile Olaf had been sporting faded for a moment when he felt teeth close in around his leg. "Yeeeeeouch!" He yelped, quickly having to re-think his battled tactics. He wasn't going to get to keep lashing his side with the other's mouth clutched over his leg. So he raised his other paw, using it to slam down roughly on top of the bridge of the other's nose, before bringing his claws over the thinly furred surface. If he could just get him to let go, he would be golden.
It felt like he hadn't broken his leg with the heavy bite, which was an extremely good thing. There would be no way for him to continue fighting with a broken bone. Not in that match, and maybe not in any to follow.
But, hey, he still felt like he wasn't doing too badly for himself. It was certainly a fight he was going to remember, win or lose.
Just had to make it a happy memory by winning.

Ulfric pulled backwards when he was struck on the nose, surprised and dazed by it. He took a parting shot with his paw, bring it up in an effort to smack Olaf in the chin, but he stumbled backwards on two paws and then four once he settled from his reactive lurch back.
He shook his head, trying to clear the stars and lights that had sprung up in his gaze.
"You are stronger than I anticipated," he said, his voice low and rolling, his eyes focusing on Olaf's face in an effort to memorize it. he had to alter his tactics in some way, or he would not be getting in. He had already decided this fight was a wash, and he was going to have to tactically retreat soon.
Even though his pride stung just thinking it.

Olaf raised a paw at the momentary pause in the battle, looking at it to check how the damage was. Definitely some fine teeth imprints in his flesh, blood dripping from the fresh wounds, but it didn't seem like anything that was going to leave lasting damage. His fur would probably grow and hide the scars, too. Not that he was so concerned about appearances while he was in a good battle, but hey, he was a good looking lion.
When the other spoke, he grunted, "You bet your a** I am!" He replied easily enough, though he was sure the other hadn't meant it as a compliment. He didn't sound like he was enjoying himself, but then losing kind of left that bitterness in most warriors.
"Is that defeat I hear? You going to call it a day on this fight, are you?" He liked when others knew when to stop fighting- it showed they weren't inexperienced. This guy, whoever he was, knew what he was doing.

Ulfric watched him with dark eyes, contemplative and untrustworthy. He was an honorable lion, though, and he knew enough that he was defeated this time. He would have to come back, but next time he would have to be more cautious.
This lion, he noted, got a bit of an ego when he was complimented. Ulfric wondered if he might use that to his advantage some time. It was going to be an important thing to remember for next time, after all.
And there would be a next time.
"I will meet you here again. You'll know my arrival. I expect you to provide me the same level of challenge the next time." He said, with a proud nod of his head, contemptuous in that he lost but not willing to walk off simpering or whining about it.

so the match was over- good. He needed a breather. Sighing softly, he did his best to straighten up, watching the other and ignoring the pain in his leg. He would whimper and moan about his injuries when his opponent was no longer around0 that would be the easiest way to avoid looking like a total spaz.
The lion ordered him to come again, and he gave an eager nod. "I'm always looking for a good fight, loud mouth, so you know I'll be right here when you arrive again. Hope the rematch is just as exciting!"
He stood proud as he watched the other leave, before letting out a heavy sigh and limping back into the pride lands. He was going to need to have someone take a look at his paw.
But it was a great set of new scars!
