You are walking very slowly, Mine, Girofleth observed, having had to shorten her own strides considerably to keep from leaving her rider behind entirely. We will arrive regardless, so delaying will accomplish nothing...save for annoying Malcarreth's, perhaps. Tardiness was something that tried most everyone's patience, after all; it was quite rude to be late, especially when someone was doing you a favor.
Oh. Well. The thought of annoying her wingmate did the trick, and Iafri quickened her pace. She didn't want to annoy anyone, particularly when they were a rather large and - in her opinion - intimidating dragonrider. The scar didn't help matters at all. They might have been in the same batch of Weyrlings, but that only made C'tis seem slightly less intimidating than he would have been otherwise. It was only at Girofleth's gentle but unrelenting insistence that she go to the bluerider for help with learning to read and write better. She hadn't known how to do either before coming to Trine, and despite some remedial lessons, was still pretty sharding awful at both, especially compared to...well, pretty much everyone else, it seemed like. She wouldn't have minded leaving it that way, but she would do as her dragon said, as she almost always did.
As they arrived, Iafri started to slow down again, but Girofleth bumped her gently to encourage her forward. Good afternoon, Malcarreth, the little green offered politely. I hope the day finds you and Yours well.

Why had he ever agreed to this? C'tis paced the length of the little room within Dauntless' headquarters that Kleos had set aside for one on one classes like this. Halting abruptly by the window C'tis scowled and threw the shutters fully open to let in more air and light. He really wished he hadn't agreed to this, and yet if he ever wanted to get anywhere (as far as was possible for a lowly little blue rider) he had to show willing. Letting out a sharp breath he headed back to the rectangular table he'd already set up ready.
There were slates with sticks of chalk for practice and a few sheets of parchment with a quill sitting atop in case they were needed. He ought to have a plan, he was sure he ought to, but he didn't even really know where Iafri was with her literacy. They'd been in the same weyrling class, yes, but he'd never paid much attention to her, to most of his classmates actually, but now they two of them were in the same wing. It made sense to know her a bit more, and helping her might help him in the longrun. Right. Where was she then?
At more or less the same moment that C'tis was wondering this, Malcarreth rumbled a welcome to Girofleth. The size of an average green himself it wasn't often he saw dragons significantly smaller than he was, in fact dragons in that category more or less amounted to Aerith and the green now before him. he replied with a small nod of his head, stretching out his wings before settling them by his sides again. the blue inclined his head at the building his lounged beside.

It would be my pleasure. Eyes a peaceful blue, the dainty green settled herself near her wingmate with a light thrum. Most of her time was spent in the company of her own skittish rider, and this would be a pleasant change. Slowly but surely, though - very slowly - Hers was starting to come around. Yours is very kind, to do this for Mine. If there is anything either of us can do in return, please let us know.
Inside. Of course. Iafri hesitated when Girofleth relayed the information about C'tis' whereabouts to her, but shuffled into the wing's headquarters after another nudge. Immediately even more nervous once separated from her dragon, she lifted her hand to her mouth and chewed her fingernails as she walked. She missed the days when her green had been able to go everywhere with her; it had felt safer, especially inside. The dreaded inside of any building still made her uncomfortable at the best of times, and added one more layer of anxiety on top of everything else.
Finally, the slight greenrider peeked into the appropriate room. "'lo," she offered, the already-quiet greeting further muffled because she was still chewing on her fingernails. A mental push from Girofleth reminded her to 'use her words,' and she sighed and lowered her hand. "Hello."
Still quiet, but an improvement.

Malcarreth gave a small rumble of amusement, his eyes flashing brighter with the emotion. the blue replied. After a moment he added; He couldn't think of anything either of them needed from the female pair at the moment but it paid to have allies, and friends too despite C'tis' opinions on that matter.
Inside C'tis stopped pacing when the quiet voice reached his ears. Turning to face the other young rider he clasped his hands behind his back, mainly to keep himself from folding them across his chest in his usual surly manner.
"Hello," he replied, feeling a bit stupid and wondering what came next in this sort of situation. He'd never meant to be a teacher... but they'd agreed to do this and frankly he found the idea that one of his wingmates was nearly illiterate pretty sad, sad for her. There was nothing quite like the pleasure of a good book, and how could you learn easily for yourself if you couldn't go to the record and pick up a scroll?
"Well... just so you know I've never taught anyone anything before... unless you count the metaphorical unpleasant sort of a lesson." Good job C'tis! Fantastic! Reference that fact that you sometimes beat the snot out of people! "Err... so what I mean is I'm learning too," he continued quickly, hoping the unfortunate comment would be forgotten; the last thing he needed was her nervous. "So.... Well there's a jug of juice there on the table if you're thirsty and... I suppose we should get started." He really should have come into this with a better plan.

Mine has been learning to be a 'good citizen' as well, you could say. The effort is difficult at times, but it will be worth it. There were times, secretly, when she felt almost guilty for dragging Hers into this life, but she doubted she had truly understood the repercussions of what she was doing at the time...not that she actually remembered.
The metaphorical unpleasant sort of l- oh. Oh. That kind of lesson. Iafri blinked wide blue eyes at her would-be teacher, looking slightly more terrified than before, then quickly lowered her gaze again.
Now now, I'm sure he didn't mean it that way, dear, Girofleth assured her. Thank him for taking the time to help you, and have some juice. You'll feel better.
"I, um, okay. Th-thank you for helping me. You p-probably had better things to do. I'm sorry." As for getting juice, well, that was all the way over there and would require moving further into the room. Which she did, albeit reluctantly.

"Err... Well, no problem." C'tis shrugged, feeling increasingly awkward in the role he was trying to adopt. "We've all got to work together, share the skills we have, right?" Another shrug. "So... yes. You're welcome." He did have things he would rather be doing but he just had to keep remembering that things like this improved his chances of promotion down the line. It would be worth it in the end.
"Okay... well shall we make a start with what you can already do?" C'tis suggested after another pause. "Once I know that I know where to start."
Malcarreth sent a mental groan to Girofleth.
