Berry wandered about a clearing, looking around curiously, cautious, it'd been kinda quiet lately, and she wasn't sure why that was. Was there some kind of holiday? or maybe many of the others were just still asleep.

Sable opened her eyes and looked around. She thought she'd heard a nearby rustle but couldn't see much from the nest she'd made for the night. Her skin rippled as she rose, shaking away any dust that had settled. Sable spied a large speck of berry red across the clearing and trotted toward it, curious what it could be.

Berry looked around again after a few steps. "Hello...?" she called out softly. "Anyone there...?"

As Sable neared, she realized the red spot was actually another mare. She called out to get the stranger's attention. Hello! Her trot slowed to a walk as she reached talking distance.

Berry turned quickly to look at the owner of the other voice, and blinked, seeing another mare. "Hello there... How are you?" she asked with a small smile.

Sable noticed the sun already well above the horizon and snorted. Lazy, apparently, she commented. It seems I've slept the morning away. I suppose it's good I didn't have any plans for the day.
She quickly studied the mare standing in front of her, admiring her speckles and curly hair. What's your name, anyway? I don't think I've seen you around before. As she spoke the wind picked up, and she lifted her head and let the breeze tousle her mane, bringing a smile to her face.

Berry 'eeped' a bit at the wind, and turned her head into it a bit, lowering her head so her crown wouldn't fly off with the wind. "I am new to these lands yet, my name is Berry. and it seems Brother Wind wants to play again." she said with a bit of a laugh. "He's often stolen my holly crown, forgive me for preventing it this time. What's your name?" she asked, curious.

She smiled, realizing she'd forgotten to introduce herself. I'm Sable, she said as she looked more closely at the leaves adorning Berry's head. Your crown is very pretty, it's a good idea to keep the wind from carrying it away. But if it does, don't worry -- I'll chase it down and catch it. she said with a grin. I love to race the wind.

"Nice to meet you, Sable." Berry said, grinning. "So you race brother wind? Must be fun for the both of you. Unfortunatly, he seems to favor putting my crown up a tree or into the water. You don't worry about your feathers?" Berry asked curiously, meaning the feathers in the other mare's mane, "They look lovely, does Brother wind try to steal them for a game sometimes or is he unable to get at them?" she asked.

I do love racing, and the wind never fails to be an excellent challenge. In response to the question, Sable shook her head. Nope, luckily they're braided in tightly. The only thing that messes them up is the rain. Then they look pretty silly until they dry out again. She turned and looked out across the clearing, falling deep into thought at the mention of her feathers. She blinked her eyes slowly and a hint of sadness settled across her features.

Berry noticed the sadness, and lightly nudged the other's shoulder. "Are you alright?" she asked softly.

At the sound of Berry's voice, Sable realized that she had gotten lost in her thoughts. She shook her head slightly in an attempt to clear it. Ah, sorry, she said, a bit shyly. It's just ... my feathers are a reminder of something that happened a long time ago. I didn't mean to space out like that. She studied the mare's holly crown again, curious about it. Where did you get your holly? I've never seen it made into a circle before.

"Oh, it was part of the bush my Dad found me near." Berry explained, smiling a bit, she tipped her head down when the wind let up, so the crown fell, and put a single hoove in the middle so it wouldn't blow away. "According to Papa, it was stuck on my head when he found me, and when he tried to take it off for me, I wouldn't let him." Berry replied, smiling a bit at the memory. "I suppose it's like your feathers, it's special to me."

Sable's ears perked up at this reply. Your family found you, too? she asked excitedly. I don't think I've ever met anyone else who's been found before. Besides myself, I mean. She smiled as she remembered the feeling of community she'd had for a brief time. Not sure if you saw this last reply in the Soq thread but wanted to give you a heads up if you want to continue this RP smile
