 HistoryTucked away in an insignificant lab somewhere science grew as it typically does...quietly, unnoticed, unfolding and expanding upon itself until at last that faint little line drawn in the sand was finally crossed. The result was instantaneous panic...and curiosity. The experiments were ended just as quietly as they had begun, data erased, people threatened to forget, files tucked away...for future use. But the damage had already been done, they had already escaped and like a virus unleashed within a body they blended seamlessly into society and hid.
In this world modified humans were created through scientific experiments long since covered up and seemingly forgotten. They are rare and attempt to blend into society in an effort to remain hidden from those seeking to recover and tie the proverbial loose ends to the past experiments. Their efforts to remain hidden however, have failed. Your characters have been discovered, tracked down individually and monitored before the strike was made and now they have been captured-except not by who you think.
Your characters have been assembled together in a miscellaneous team of some sorts, modified humans from all walks of life with all sorts of abilities. They awake clustered together in a room with no explanation, no one but themselves present and a simple, innocuous metal collar clasped around their necks. On a podium placed in the middle of the otherwise bare room is a small portable flash drive and a simple white card reading:
USE ME
Randomly flash drives with instructions to tasks the team must complete will be sent through the mail and delivered in a package with no return address listed. No matter where they go or how far apart they divide themselves the packages somehow always manages to find them. Inside is a flash drive that when plugged into a computer will offer the information to the next task the group must complete. The tasks are seemingly random and may vary from harmless acts to outright murders and questionable activities. The result of not obeying is a fate worse than death.
Who is behind this is uncertain, no effort for contact has been made beyond the delivery of the flash drives. What their goals are-their reasons and motivations behind tracking down modified humans and forcing them to complete tasks, is unknown. For all they know? The mastermind could be among them...

PurposeTo put it simply this roleplay is meant to delve into the psychology behind characters and to tweak the strings of morality that control your own personal little puppets as you please. Meretricious Morals focuses on the choices you make your characters make as individuals and the reasons behind their choices. You may create whatever personality you want for your character, decide where their morals lay-what they're afraid to do and what they aren't, how far they're willing to go to survive and how they will change over the course of time.
If you are not very good at putting great thought into the personalities of your characters or thinking about plausible reasons why they are acting the way you make them then this may not be the roleplay for you. Haven is a literate roleplay guild however and I have confidence this shouldn't be a problem.
My advice? Create a firm character before you join, you don't have to have them all planned out (I wouldn't advise that for an rp) but at least decide on a personality that matches their backstory and then stick to it. Please don't think you can sit back and be lead around by your nose plot wise, you will have to contribute to the plot and be creative! SettingThis takes place in a modern large city setting. Technology and medicine have roughly advanced beyond what we have today-medicine especially. The city varies from rundown slums, middle class housing, shopping districts, to high rise businesses and upper class mansions.

Rules1. As with all Roleplays you must follow Gaia ToS
2. Posts must be literate with correct grammar and spelling. With online dictionaries and spellcheckers this should not be an issue. As long as you include a picture, post decoration is not strictly required.
3. Absolutely no one-liners. At least one paragraph (5 sentences long) per post. It is not that difficult to scrape that much together "lack of muse" be damned. There is nothing more frustrating than typing a page worth of description and dialogue only to receive barely anything to work with in return.
4. Swearing is allowed within reason, keep romance PG-14 or so. Take it to a PM if you feel the need.
5. I CANNOT stress enough that my biggest petpeeve is people holding up an RP due to unannounced inactivity. Within a few days of hearing no reply from you, your character will be skipped over so the RP may continue. After a week of absence it will be your job to find a way to interject your character back in. After about a month of hearing nothing from you your character will most likely be killed off. If you are aware that you will be absent from the RP for a long length of time please TELL ME and remove your character from blocking anyone else's. I'm very serious about this.
6. Despite these characters being modified humans they are restricted to roughly one ability each. This does not mean that other smaller abilities cannot stem from the major one, they just have to be relevant. Absolutely no OP characters and no godmodding allowed. You will be warned once and then asked to leave if it continues to be a problem.
7. The collar attached to your character's neck cannot be removed by any method unless otherwise stated.
8. Tasks must be completed or at least pursued, failure for the characters to comply will result in basically-sorta-but-not-quite-death.
9. Please keep your characters for the most part humanoid in appearance. Keep in mind they have to be able to blend in amongst other people. Please no initial overly mutated/animalistic appearances. If this is part of their power they have to have a mostly humanoid appearance.
10. I have the ability to add or subtract rules (like math =D) as I see fit.

Along with your profile and profile picture please include a cropped 100x100 reference picture of your character for listing purposes.
Please decide what you want your character to be good at and figure out your abilities based around that. I.e. spy, fighter, distraction, speed, etc.
***As modified humans your character's healing abilities are slightly enhanced as a given. Small wounds will heal quickly however they are NOT immortal. Their bodies are simply stronger and much more resilient than those of normal humans._ _ _

Consciousness comes to you like the ebb and flow of water and slowly you become aware of three things:
Firstly you don’t know where you are or how you got there but it’s dim, the lighting emitted from the dull lamps hanging above is yellowed and weak. The floor underneath you is cold cement, dusty and strewn with sparse debris from disuse. A warehouse, empty and abandoned.
Secondly something cold and metallic encircles your neck and when you reach up to touch it you find a metal collar clasped securely against the skin of your throat.
Thirdly you are not alone. Spread out around you like the blooming petals of a flower are several other people all in various stages of consciousness. Some rub at their heads and blink dazedly over at you and others remain slumped against the ground, face lax in unconsciousness.
Who are these people and what are you doing here? What is this collar contraption around your neck and can it come off? And what’s that…in the middle of the room? A podium? What’s on it?

To be honest if this roleplay doesn't move consistently then I'm not going to bother for the time being (don't mean to be a downer but I've been gone for a week and have a lot to catch up on).
