Lazarus sighed softly at sight of the sinking sun, the dull orange light glinting off his scales. He wondered how something so beautiful could herald something so dangerous, and he gently lifted his wing to nose at the lantern beneath.
It would be a while yet before the sun fully fell, but still he blew at the small flame sheltered at his side, willing it to grow in preparation of the coming darkness. Surprisingly, the flame rarely went out at all. He’d learned to keep it alive for a long time, back when he’d hung around a herd whose purpose was to keep an eternal flame going. It was there that he met his first and only love, and there that he left her...
With a snort and a rough shaking of his head, he shook the memories away. Rising to his feet, he trotted along the flower-dotted field, looking for something, anything, to help distract his mind.

Mystic Lyric lay in a field of crimson colored poppies. After her afternoon lunch, she had grown drowsy and opted for a nap. On a normal day, she would be kept entertained by her fathers company. It so happened that he was off spending the night with some dame he had met this week. It didn't bother her. Good for him! So she had slept her afternoon away, and now would be up all night as a result. Being an on and off again night owl was part of her life. Lyric went with the flow, and didn't like mornings anyways. She could sleep in tomorrow.
As the sun painted the river red with it's dying glow of light, Lyric awoke with a stretch, poking her head up above the flowers. Her mouth stretched open in the widest, laziest yawn. She then glanced around the area, with a lackadaisical gaze. The mares icey round eyes, noticed the stallion walking in the close distance. Peculiar that he was carrying a lantern filled with the red burning light she had witnessed at local campfires.
Pushing her lips together, and arching one brow playfully, she continued to observe him. One might say she was a casual soquili watcher. It served as entertainment, to sit back and watch others.
Yes, I'm watching you. she blinked, her gaze unfaltering. Lyric grinned softly, with a fire all of her own. He was handsome to watch.

The mare’s gaze was bold open, and not subject to the embarrassment most went through it seemed, for when he returned her stare she did not look away. Well, now. Her interest was apparent, and it was a distraction he was looking for, wasn’t he? It took only a slight shift to alter his course and head into the field of poppies, and though he knew the flowers could hide much, he chose to trade caution for diversion today.
“Greetings,” he said with a smile, dipping his head to emphasize both horns and fangs alike. They were the traits of a Kalona, and though he did not identify strongly with the breed, he found the ways other responded to them would color the rest of their interaction – and he was not up to dealing with prejudice today.
“What’s a beautiful mare like you doing here all alone? Waiting for someone?”
