Nuivian could only frown. Damn it. His first attempt at dragon hunting had gone terribly awry and he had just gotten loose from his bindings from the Ysali dragon that he was previously chasing. He brushed the bits of foliage from his clothing and picked it out of his hair, straightening himself up before assessing his next steps. Well, he could give up and just go home, which would be much easier and require little effort. And he could play off his attempt as never happening, which could be a plus.
Or. He could try again.
When he started this hunt he couldn’t see himself caring all that much, but after being proven ill equipped he found himself starting to sing another tune. He grimaced at his earlier thoughts of dragon hunting being a piece of cake. He hated to admit he was wrong, and he hadn’t yet had a real chance to prove anything, but it did have to be near perfectly executed to go well; at least with his current method. He didn’t know if charging in headfirst was even slightly more effective, but that didn’t make much of a difference to Nuivian anyways. It just wasn’t his style.
He searched through the forest for the same Ysali dragon. He knew it had to be around here somewhere. He finally spotted it and tried something a little bolder. He drew a blade he had been hiding in his robes and snuck up once again. He attempted to swing down onto the dragon with his knife, but the thing was too fast. It seemed without even trying the Ysali dragon reared back and struck out at Nuivian with its tail, sending him into the ground yards away. The dragon was gone once again.
Damn it. He seemed to be using that phrase more and more, but it was an apt description of the situation and his feelings. His body was sore from the hit and he couldn’t help but feel that maybe it was time to give up for today.
