Howler stalked the area, sticking close to the trees and bushes. Lately he'd seen a lot of large Soquili, well, large in the sense they could crush him quite easily, being on his own away from his pack. Anyways, they seemed to be doting over a lot of these strange baskets lately, and his curiosity about these two-legger woven things and why the Soquili were so protective of them was getting the better of him. Just what was so important about a basket???? "Hm..." his eyes narrowed, seeing the new 'mothers' tend to their baskets. He had been watching for a while, knew some had been carrying foals and fillies not too long ago, but now, the mothers were slimmer, and had the baskets instead. Confusing, to say the least...

It was a dull day, to say the very least. Watchful blue-green orbs peered out at all the new mothers and a smile formed just beneath those very orbs. A small blue wolf now remembered when she was trusted with her own basket to help keep a watchful eye on. Maylin still remembered the day she came back and the basket was ripped to pieces and a young foal was curled up in the brush she and the father of the foal had left the little basket. Fear had turned to excitement in a split second as the father explained what had happened. How naive the blue wolf was. A snort brought the wolf back to the present as she glanced along the surrounding woods. Now that the foal was a mare, Maylin found herself watching over this area where mother soquili gathered, hoping to one day find the mare and assist her with her own foals one day. With a sharp sigh, the wolf laid her head on her front, folded paws for a second until she heard a rustling in some nearby bushes. When she caught sight of the grey wolf, the hackles on the back of her neck stood on end for a second. She needed to check this guy out.

Howler hadn't yet seen the blue wolf, he shifted silently as possible as one of the new mothers wandered past his hiding spot with her new foal looking for food. He didn't try anything though, watching them pass, waiting, before he settled into his previous spot again, looking back to the baskets, both ears pricked attentivly directed right at them for a moment, before flicking about to catch other sounds while his gaze stayed steady upon the baskets in the clearing. the bushed provided shelter for him from the taller creatures sights, he figured as long as the taller ones didn't see him, he had a decent chance, chance at what? He hadn't gotten close to a basket yet, due to the parents and two-leggers.

His intent stare on baskets only made the grey wolf seem more suspicious to Maylin. He wasn't scoping the area in a protective fashion, only focusing on little, innocent baskets. Of course, if he tried to go after a basket, he would surely be crushed by a heavy hoof... unless the mother was sleeping. Quickly and without a single sound, Maylin's crouched body slithered through the bushes and trees towards Howler. Finally, as she snuck up behind him, she suddenly yipped out, "What do you think you're doing?!" A low growl soon followed as the hackles continued to stand on her neck and back. If needed, she would protect these mothers, foals and baskets alike. Why? So this place seemed like a safe place and the mare she was looking for would one day return here.

Howler scarcly moved at first, yes he'd been startled, but he'd never been one to jump from it. Instead he turned quickly to face the threat, seeing an oddly colored wolf like himself growling at him in a protective manner. He narrowed his eyes and growled back, defensive, as his own hackles went up.
"Hush, imp." He warned ears flicking back in an assertive manner. "It is unwise to interfear with things you do not know..."

What was this deranged wolf speaking about? He didn't honestly believe he could take a basket and foal away from its protective mother. A smirk appeared on the female wolf's maw as she focused her blue green eyes on the grey wolf now standing within snapping distance. With her head and tail held high, Maylin slowly felt her head sway from side to side. "Tut, tut. What you don't realize is that I know more than you could imagine." A low growl rumbled deep in the wolves chest as she braced herself for a possible battle. "Do you really think those mares are going to let you take those baskets so easily... oh and don't forget their possible mates that are roaming close by. It would be a terrible end if you were to take a stallion's hoof to the head." Perhaps with her wise words, Maylin could encourage the male to leave without a fight.

Howler paused, blinking at the wolf as his ears pricked forward curiously and his fur settled a bit. "Take..?" he asked, he smirked as much as wolf could, and chuckled, settling back onto his haunches. "Oh, you are a dim one aren't you?" he asked the blue wolf. "Listen well, imp, you know nothing with what you are interfering. I am studying."

Maylin watched him carefully for a moment as she tried to decide whether or not he was lying. For now, she wouldn't argue with the wolf. As her tail swayed slightly, she peered out over the landscape before snapping her attention back on this other wolf. "I am far from dim, wolf. I am protective of these mares and their baskets." The small wolf then thought about his last statement. "Studying these mares or the baskets?" Another pause. "Do you not realize what is in the baskets?" It was a common curiosity for other creatures to find out what exactly hid within the baskets and why mares seemed to be so protective of them.
