Seshat (meaning "Female Scribe") is the goddess of reading, writing, historical records, accounting and mathematics, measurement and architecture. Because of some of these associations people will see Her as Djehuty's female counterpart. But she was also seen as his wife or daughter. Its also said that She had a son with Djehuty named Hornub, meaning "gold Horus", so people would associate Her with Aset.

There's some back and forth over Who really invented writing. Some sources say that Seshat started it and Djehuty taught it to man while others say that it was all Djehuty. One of her jobs was being the pharaoh's scribe. She would write down the pharaoh's name at birth and how long he would live. She would also document his deeds throughout his life. Some sources say that she did this for all people while others say that She was primarily a royal deity. This role also made her the goddess of fate as the Egyptians are said to have believed that the concept of fate was contented to writing.

One of Seshat's epithet is "Mistress of the House of Books" which connected her to libraries. She was the patron of earthy libraries and was said to watch over Djehuty's library. Another epithet of Her's, "Mistress of the House of Architects" might have lead to her gaining the epithet "The Lady of the House", leading to her association with Nebt-Het (Nebt-Het has also been described as "Seshat, Foremost of Builders" ).
