Mist Hunter
The Miss Taken Tower

General Information
As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.

The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.

If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.

If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.

  • Part 1
    Mechanics
    - roll your regular attack
    - roll your regular attack again
    - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP
    - if you have an available recovery bonus, you may try to use that to avoid HP loss

    Bonus Mechanics
    - This bonus is consumable.
    - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.

    - Trainees: 0 recoveries
    - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
    - Hunters: 1 recovery
    - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

  • Part 2
    Mechanics
    - there are two steps worth of traps in this room, so you'll be rolling twice

    - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into
    - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can
    - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly
    - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into
    - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can
    - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly
    - roll list: (feel free to get creative about what the traps actually were)
(-50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd)

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. - 50% HP
    04. live
    05. live

***GM Approved Addition: For Miss Taken Tower runs that Candace is personally supervising, she can be used as a recovery once per run. If your trainee rolls a fail on any part of the course, they can call Candace in to try and put them back on the right track, this works similarly to the Shadow Run recoveries and negates your fail if she succeeds (example; freeing the Princess from her shackles, if you roll a fail, ICly she can see your trainee is about to blow your princess to pieces and butt in to try and prevent it) Threads that Candace can be used in have to be started by me. To use this recovery, simply quote Eight and Candace will attempt to help you.

Six am, bright and early. Candace was very awake as she waited for Stormy to arrive, leaning against the wall of the Miss Taken tower and scrolling through her phone with one hand, a steaming cup of coffee in the other. Beside her feet was also a drink tray with a travel mug in it, tea for Stormy if she needed something to wake her up and give herself energy. She had found that thing Stormy had mentioned, the profiles. Who the ******** wrote hers? Bah, whatever. She'd deal with it later.

Candace had called her Princess. Candace had called her Princess.

Obviously now she couldn't fail her.

Bright and early as promised, Stormy arrived, looking more awake than she had previously: partially because she had gotten a full night's rest to prepare, and partially because her nerves were already at work. She'd done training courses before, but this time it was not only the one she needed to pass to prove herself a real Mist hunter, but a senior hunter would be watching her.

Deep breaths, Stormy.

"Miss Candace, hi!" she greeted as she approached. Hatless this time, the trainee had pulled her hair up in a simple ponytail; nothing could distract her this time! "I'm not late am I?"

Ah, there she was. Candace smiled and put her phone in the pack strapped to her arm. She was ready for anything, dressed in a tank top, shorts and sneakers just in case she had to help out. "Oh, no! You're fine, don't worry. It's good to make a habit of being on time or early though, yes. I brought this if you'd like," Candace offered after picking up the travel mug for Stormy. "Tea, I wasn't sure if you like coffee."

She combed her hair back away from her face after offering Stormy her drink, gesturing to the tower behind her. "Welcome to Miss Taken Tower, the Mist course. I'll be watching, so if you need me I can try and get you out of a jam. Don't hesitate to call me unless you feel you can fix it on your own. I recommend stretching out, doing a couple warm ups, before you go in. Stay alert, keep your guard up, and be careful." Candace smiled. "You can keep trying until you succeed, if you want to over achieve you can keep doing it until you succeed twice, and if you mess up, it's okay," Candace felt she needed to emphasize this for Stormy after the girl had been so hard on herself the day before. "Mistakes will happen, that's why you train. You learn from the mistake."

Candace finished her coffee and set it down on the drink tray. "Any questions? You can start whenever you're ready."

Ol-J-Man
THERE YOU GO! From here on out Candace is just watching! You don't need interaction from me unless you use your Candace recovery, or you quote for a question. GOOD LUCK!

"Yes, ma'am!" Oooo, tea...tea might calm her nerves. Candace seemed to really like tea...Good to known for the future. Thanking her, Stormy sipped some as she listened to Candace's explanation. Wouldn't it be just fantastic if she could do it twice on the first go? She'd managed Sun and Moon just fine...But she needed to make Candace proud! No mistakes!

Once finished, she set the teacup down and shook her head. "No questions, ma'am. I'm gonna gun for it!" Stormy announced with a bounce of her heels. "I'll make you proud, Miss Candace." With that she entered the building and stopped short of the course, beginning to stretch a bit.

< < I am ready as well. > >

If it was a mix, then it'd be long...but perhaps not as hard. Stormy comforted herself with the notion as she straightened up and tightened her ponytail.

Business time.

And the course was waiting.

She remembered how she'd cut through the shadowlings her first time, but nervousness still reigned. Thane clacked his jaw as he tasted their Fear, his content helping keep her head in the game. It was a smaller room than before; she was already halfway there.

It took Stormy a bit to get her momentum going with the large weapon, but once Thane was swinging, he tended to hit hard. The shadowlings were cut back swing by swinging as she paved her way up the stairs.

So far, so good.

It looked like a simple floor. The painted smiley face did not make her feel better.

Carefully Stormy inched her way across the floor, eyeing each tile critically as she tiptoed. One of them gave her bad vibe, though Thane didn't see it more than an arbitrary decision. Either way, nothing happened, though she tossed a flag on the tile just to be sure not to go near it.

Okay, just a little more...She'd not tried the Death course yet, so it made sense that it was giving her this much trouble. And that was when she heard the mechanical click.

< < Move! > >

And move she did. A frightened Stormy was like a jackrabbit, bouncing from tile to tile as fast as she could while the fiery vent she'd just avoided shot up in a stream of heat. Her heart was racing from the close encounter, especially when she saw that her flagged tile was starting to smoke around the edges.

Told you.

Upon reaching the top of the tower, sweating and more jittery than before (and yet somehow less nervous), Stormy came face to face with Princess Ami. It looked about as scowly as the original too!

"I'm here, Cap'n," she announced with a smile as she wiped her brow and approached. The manacles looked rigged, so she'd have to be careful...But at least this wasn't Jenga.

One down, another to go. What Lifers needed were steady hands, she realized. With equipment, with people, with everything they did it had to be about precision. Her hands shook slightly, but Stormy eventually got the other cuff off and helped the princess golem up.

"Okay, stay with me, Cap'n. I might be in the library a lot 'cause've you, but I've had some practice defending too!"

Time to back track. Leading the golem down the stairs, she imagined Ami's voice for the mute princess and giggled softly to herself, even if she was already panting. Maybe Lex was right: maybe even if she looked angry or bored, she did still care.

Once they hit the death sweeper floor, she swept the golem up in he arms with a grunt. So this was how it felt to hold someone up! It was just as nice carrying as it was to he carried.

"Okay, here we go!"

Having remembered where the fire tiles were, Stormy had begun to get confident as they moved inward. She did still spring a few, however, and therein lay the challenge. There were a few gasps and close calls as she narrowly dodged a volley of arrows, an acidic splash, and what looked like a bottomless pit which spikes shot out of. But the trainee eventually found herself staggering to the other side, both she and the golem unharmed.

"Well...that wasn't so bad..." Ish.

Okay, just one more floor left . . . She gulped down a deep breath. Defense. I am a total wall. Totally.

She's always been more comfortable on the defense anyway. Mentally, emotionally, physically, she being reactive rather than pro-active. It was something Thane disliked, but which in this case he couldn't fault her for.

"You're in good hands," she told the Ami golem with forced confidence. "Just gotta cut through the shadowlings and we'll be free."

Stormy had to try something new. While the greatsword normally needed to be used with both hands, she had to watch that none of the shadowlings so much as breathed upon Princess Ami--well, if they even breathed. One hand was used to drag the golem behind her, the other grasping the weapon's handle to swing with more momentum than actual strength. She was still getting used to its weight, but at least it wasn't quite as bad as it used to be, so . . . progress.

The shadows kept encroaching, but the wide swarths she sliced left plenty of room for the golem and herself, though by the time she reached the end of the course Stormy was out of breath. Letting go of Princess Ami as it made the strangest cooing noises over her, she desummoned Thane and leaned against the wall, panting and wiping her brow of sweat.

"Hoo . . . boy . . . Wow, okay, this is hard . . ." Stormy peered around for Candace as she fixed her ponytail, wondering if she did alright.
