Melvin stood quiet and back straight as he aimed Saliva, staring at the dummy for a long time and not actually firing. His mind was elsewhere, and he had forgotten someplace in his firing what he was doing.

"Uh. Hey, Melvin. You gonna get that?"
Wash had walked up and was patiently waiting for his turn at some of the dummies. After working with Jerry, he tried never to step in front of another hunter's weapon, but he was beginning to wonder if something might be wrong with the normally long-winded Life hunter.

Melvin jerked to reality, suddenly animated and looked over at Wash as if he just materialized out of thin air. "Wash!" He said, knowing the man only on a limited number of occasions but enough to know his name. Looking ahead at the dummy he had been firing at moments ago, he shook his head. "Sorry. Sort of zoned out there a moment. Yes. Go ahead. It doesn't seem I can focus on dummies today." He stepped back, gesturing for Wash to go ahead and take his place as he made his way over to his things.
On a bench sat his sweater, jacket, scarf, and a bottle of water. Melvin was currently wearing a polo top and went over to open the bottled water, ever mindful of how hot weather and exercise could exert a body. Hydration was very important.

"Sorry, weren't trying t'edge in on your space, man," Wash offered. He summoned his own weapon, grimacing before approaching it and taking a few half-hearted thwacks.
"Truth be told, I dunno how much good I'm doin' workin' with these things anyway, heh."

"Neither do I. When it comes to missions, it feels as if all the training here doesn't even matter. Then again, it's harder to hit a moving target than these things." He said, jerking a thumb in the direction of the dummies.
He took another sip of water and watched. "Doesn't your weapon have a wide swing? I wouldn't think it would need much precision but more strength."

"Uh." He glanced at his shield.
"I guess. Never really thought about it. Usually when s**t goes down, I get caught up in th' moment, yennow. Don't really have time t'like, calculate." Wash shrugged. "It's better for absorbin' blows than makin' 'em, anyways."

"I'm so used to seeing massive knives and axes that I still see even a shield as some deadly weapon. You don't try tossing it like a blade? Stupid question, but I've wondered about it ever since seeing it about how sharp it is." He had played far too many video games as a kid to not think of the shield that way.
"If you don't mind, I'd like to see how it works. I'm not focusing on dummies much as it is."

Wash laughed. "Yeah, I tried throwin' it one or two times. Works great, 'cept the bit where it don't come back."
"Sure," he added, backing up a bit. "Ain't like I got nothin' better t'do, man."

"Oh right. You're not like Otto and his big boomerang." He shook his head at not thinking about such an obvious flaw in throwing a shield. Stepping back, he held the red gun and took a solid stance.

"So THAT's what Otto's got?" He couldn't remember having seen the other hunter's weapon before, but he must have at some point.
"Bet the ladies really like him," he joked, rolling his shoulders and trying to loosen up.

Without warning, he tried to close the distance between the two of them - the other man was more dangerous at range - but he swung out just short.
