It was a blessing in that Rep only was on the island every other week, which meant when he left, he didn't have to tense and glare every time he saw that mop of red in his department. What had been a pleasant opportunity to possibly get Rep to control himself through a break from a rather violent division was now a terrible nuisance in having to see THAT man in his work area at any given time.
With Rep's bags packed for the week and off to freeze his a** off, Melvin was in a far better mood and went back to his own routine without the concern of who might be just around the corner. Having done all his work for that day early, Melvin stepped into Sasha's office to feed and check her pets (as he kept her pets off the rotation for tech feedings due to Rep being on that list of workers), and made sure they all looked just as they had the previous week.
Turning about, he then set to close the office for the day and head off to fit in a bit of training.

"Hello, Melvin."
Sasha hadn't really been neglecting her work, per se, but she hadn't yet had time to visit her office to make sure everything was still in order. The fact that Melvin was coming out of her office made Sasha feel a bit better about the status of everything, and she offered the other Life trainee a smile, though it held little warmth.
She tilted her head to the side and watched him carefully.
"Where are you off to? And.. thank you for looking after my things. I do appreciate it."

Melvin tensed at the voice but kept himself from jumping. Instead, he forced a smile back and closed the office door, locking it. Well, with Rep gone, that did mean Sasha was about, though at least Sasha kept to her office. It was a crazy thought to consider he preferred Sasha round the island rather than Rep.
"You're welcome. I've kept watch on your minipets to make sure their tanks are maintained." He considered her question but saw no harm in answering. "I'm going to train on the training fields. I like to train each day if I can. Where are you off too? Working?" He said, glancing to her office door.

"I was going to do a little work, but since you're heading off to the fields, I'll join you -- if you don't mind?"
Her eyes never left his face.
"We can catch up. It's been a while since we've talked."
This would be her first spar without her weapon. She was nervous, but also intrigued.

"Well, I'd hate to keep you from your work..." He wasn't sure exactly how to the rules Sasha fought. "...but if you want.."
He gestured ahead in a 'Ladies first' fashion and followed alongside out of the Life building and to the field. As he did, he took off his jacket to drape it over one arm, still not used to the suffocating weather on the island and spending most of his time in an air-conditioned lab.
"I heard you are sent elsewhere when Rep is on the island. Can I ask where?"

Sasha stepped outside in front of Melvin, taking a moment to shrug off her jacket the closer they got to the field. Her scarf followed, and she was left clad in a long black tunic-like shirt and black leggings with black flats.
The heat didn't appear to bother her, what with all the black she wore.
"Scotland," Sasha laid her jacket and scarf on a training dummy, out of the way from where they would fight. "And before we begin, I'd like to assign some rules, if you don't mind. If you don't agree, we won't spar - which is perfectly fine."

Melvin took off his scarf as well, folding them both nicely and setting them on a bench before taking off his sweater, leaving a high-collared polo underneath.
Fixing his hair as he folded his sweater, he looked back over to her. "Scotland? Seems a place they would send Rep rather than you, though I assume they wouldn't want to reward him as a punishment." He set his sweater on top of his things and turned to her.
His fluffy hair had curled in a few odd angles. "Okay. What are your rules?"

"The organization owns a property in Scotland, and I was sent in by the Doctor to take inventory."
So to speak.
"Just one rule, really. We stop when I say stop - or if you say stop. I don't want to have this turn into a trip to the infirmary. That's the only rule."

Melvin smiled. "Agreed." He reached back to grab the red pen behind his ear before he paused. "You don't have a weapon, right?" He asked, remembering that Rep had his weapon privileges stripped from him before.
"Are you just fighting with your fists?"

Sasha's eye twitched. She hadn't told anyone about her lack of weapon - aside from Wash and Rep. Wash would never tell anyone - had Rep?
"Fists, yes."
She didn't answer his question.

Melvin had just went with the assumption that their punishments had been the same, and seeing as she was going to fight with fists, an unusual way to spar as far as he knew, he just assumed it was true.
"Then I'll work with fists too. I've been meaning to get better with and without a weapon if something that disables our weapons ever happens." That and he didn't feel he could take any sense of victory from fighting an unarmed person with a gun. If he lost to her with a weapon, that would be just as terrible. He had been fighting with fists with Rep to learn how to somehow spark a sense of combat rage that everyone on the island seemed to possess and delight in, but that had stopped when he stopped talking to the Sun.
Putting Saliva on his clothes, he then raised his fists. "If you don't mind." He said, and waited for her to start.

Sasha shrugged. If he wanted to fight with his fists, he could fight with his fists. Then again, he'd still have his shield - and she wouldn't.
Maybe this hadn't been such a great idea.
Even if it wasn't a great idea, it was still a sort of punishment. She'd lost her weapon, and she deserved this.
Lashing out with a small fist, Sasha aimed for Melvin's stomach.

The fist hit, but it lacked the Umph he expected. I did knock a bit of wind out of him, but not enough to really send him toppling back. When she went for her shot, he took a step back as he rubbed his stomach.
"I always feel like I should be angrier when I throw a punch." He said, musing out loud. "Do you fight with your fists a lot?" He asked, curious as he took a step to the right to see if he could find a good place to hit.

"This is my first time," Sasha narrowed her eyes as her fist shot forward and glanced off of his shoulder.
She was avoiding his face, and silently hoped that he would give her the same courtesy.
"It's a bit too brutish for my tastes," she stepped back from him, "but practice is always welcome, regardless."

"I wouldn't think of you as refraining from brutish things. You seemed to me to delight in a sense of violence." He turned when the fist grazed his shoulder. It still felt weird hitting a woman without a weapon. It made it far too personal.
Moving forward, he went to hit her side.
