User ImageSummer time!

School was out for summer, and though Evangeline really did love school, she also really really liked being able to play all day. And to be able to play outside longer then usual. During school time she had to be in by 6:30 sharp(!) for dinner and eventually homework. But in the summer... well that was totally different. Especially when Anna was babysitting.

Evangeline had been playing in the backyard for awhile that afternoon and early evening. First she'd chased Flash around the yard a bit, before giving up on chasing him and settling down to feed Smoochy some blades of grass. Then she'd rolled around in the grass for awhile, crawling around on all four before attempting to, unsuccessfully, do some somersaults. And eventually she'd ended up in the flower bed digging her little fingers through the soil to peer at the wiggly worms and the hard working ants. Her clothes were getting all dirty and smudgey, but that was really pretty common and exactly why she always took a bath before bed!

But as it grew closer to dusk, some movement caught her attention out of the corner of her eye. Was it a dog? It seemed about that size and shape, and dark black. "Puppy, puppy, puppy?" She called out in soft sing-song as she peeked around the edge of the fence.

There it was again, going right around the corner. She probably shouldn't leave.. not without telling Anna.. But she wouldn't be away for too long! She'd just pet the puppy for a few minutes and come right back, she sweared!

Following after the dark figure Evangeline continued for a few streets, until finally she managed to get close enough, calling out again to the 'puppy', holding her hand out far in front of her so that it could sniff her hand when it turned around. "Here puppy! Come here puppy puppy."

As the creature turned Eva halted, her young face contorting a little in curiousity and uncertainty. Though the creature looked a little bit like a dog.. at the same time it didn't. It's eyes glowed red, it's features warped slightly in shape, and the teeth and claws glistened, far oversized compared to anything she'd ever seen in pictures of dogs or even wolves.

The hair on the back of her neck began to p***k upwards as she heard the low growl that it began to produce, slowly drawing her hands back to her chest. "I... It's okay puppy! I don't want to hurt you." She was trying to be calm and friendly, animals sensed fear, right? But at the same time her voice was getting unconciously higher pitched.

As the youma lurched at her Eva squealed in surprise and fear, stumbling backwards. "No!" She yelped out firmly, hoping it was a command the 'dog' knew. "You have to be nice puppy. If you're mean the pound will come get you." Trying to reason with the beast while simultaneously trying to get out of there? Perhaps it was childish optimism.

Wait, what was that? Ida could have sworn she heard something... normally her this neighborhood, so close to her own, was quiet about now. Most of the families here were older, or had kids... which meant that about now, people were inside eating, or getting ready for bed. So what was that scuffling sound?

Knowing deep down exactly what it was, Sailor Ida squared her shoulders and trotted towards the sound, walking along the edge of a brick fence before dropping to the side walk and rounding a corner. The sight that greeted her made her blood run cold and she was moving before she had even registered what the heck that black shape was. Her instincts said it was a youma, and with a little girl its current prey, no thought was really needed for her to go running in to save the day.

Dashing with a speed only her powered up form could produce, the flower senshi dipped low and scooped the frightened girl up into her arms and leaped away, putting distance between herself and the monster even as it lunged for her.

"I don't think so!" She shouted as she lashed out, kicking it in the head when she came to land down the street. She watched it tumble head over tail and land in a heap, unable to help the little fizzle of satisfaction it gave her.

Eva was an animal lover like many children. She'd met plenty of dogs in the past, even a few not so nice ones. But her anxiety level was quickly peaking as the monster dog continued to snarl and move forward, her attempts to calm it or put distance between them failing. In fact her eyes had squeezed themselves shut until she was overtaken with another strange sensation.

Her feet left the ground and she felt herself being carried off, her long ponytail swooping loosely beneath her. Bright green eyes opened tentatively, trying to figure out what exactly had happened. The woman that was holding her was a stranger for sure, Eva had never seen her or anyone dressed like her in real life. She was a beautiful stranger though, almost like Princess Jasmine! With that dark skin, and the flowers, and her hood. Fear was overtaken by awe and it took a long moment before that awe was taken over by gratefulness, her small hands reaching out to loop her arms around the woman's neck. "I.. I don't know why the puppy is being so mean!"

"I swear I didn't do anything mean to it!" Her voice was still high pitched as she peeked over Ida's shoulder towards the youma that was slowly standing and shaking itself off.

At least the youma was a small one, which made it easier to fight one handed. She refused to put the child down and risk having it go for her, so Ida was grateful when the little girl didn't start freaking out and instead put her arms around her neck. Shifting the little body so she had one arm under her bottom, Ida freed up one arm and leaped back another few yards as the monster rushed for them again.

"I know you didn't do anything, sweety." She said, keeping her attention on the youma. "Its being mean because its not a puppy, its a monster. Don't worry though... I fight these things all the time and they go poof into dust when you hit them the right way."

Speaking of which... it was about time she put it out of its misery. She'd fought worse, certainly, but no need to scare the little girl any more than necessary. Jumping up onto a fence, she balanced her weight and the girl's weight as she swept her free hand in front of herself, trailing petals that appeared as her hand moved.

"Beautiful Petal Barrage!" Ida shouted, the command seeming to trigger the petals as they began to glow and lengthen into needles of light. They sprayed forward as the youma jumped for them and a satisfied smile crossed her face as it cried out in pain and fell back. It exploded when it hit the pavement, dusting just as she said it would, and there was little of it left afterwards except a smudge on the ground.

The street seemed unusually quiet after the monster was gone and Ida gave a sigh as she brought the two of them down to the sidewalk again. Reluctantly, she set the girl down on her two feet, strangely sad to be parted from her. She could have sworn she'd never met this child before, but she felt protective of her.

Eva seemed happy enough to oblige as the senshi shifted her around to a position that freed an arm, though she clung all the while. Hearing that it wasn't her fault was a nice reassurance and if she weren't so flustered and confused she might have managed an unseen smile for it. The little girl was however much too busy being amazing by the show put on before her.

"You fight monsters? Like a knight?" That's what knights did, ran around fighting monsters and saving the pretty princesses. But then.. Rapunzel and Merida did a pretty good job of protecting themselves so maybe she was a princess instead? Her eyes were the size of saucers as beautiful flower petals appeared from nowhere and then suddenly at the woman's command they sharpened and flew. There was an audible gasp and slight tightening of her arms when the monster POOFED into nothingness.

Eva's grip lingered for a moment after her feet were set on the ground before finally letting go, her hands reaching down to straighten her shirt daintily back over her shorts. But all the while her eyes remained up on Ida's face, her expression bright and interested. "Are you a princess then?"

"You did magic and it was really really pretty. And you are really pretty. And you saved me!"

"I've never seen someone do magic in real life. Only on the tv or in movies." Maybe she was babbling a little, but in the end she remembered her manners. "Thank you for helping me! I'm Evangeline."

Ida was a little taken aback by the girl's eager questions, blinking for a moment as she tried to sort out what to answer first. A grin broke across her face and she laughed as she crouched down, her hands on her knees so she was eye to eye with the girl she had saved.

"I'm not a knight or a princess, I'm a Sailor Senshi and my name is Ida. I guess you could call what I did magic... I don't really know what makes me able to do it, so that's probably as good of a reason as any. Senshi can do attacks like that and we protect people like you and your family from bad monters like that one I turned into dust. Its called a youma and they come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes, and can look like anything." Reaching out, she dusted the girl off a little, coming to realize after a few swipes that the dirt had probably been there before the attack. When you work with plants, you tend to recognize when someone's been digging in the dirt.

"I should get you home. Its not safe for little girls to be out alone in the dark like this. You should be with your family." Ida said as she straightened up, taking a look around. "Which house is yours?"

Sailor.. senshi? It wasn't a word she knew, but she filed it away in her head with a soft nod to think about later. Whatever they were they protected people from monsters though, and that was very nice! Yep, Eva definitely liked Ida. But that also meant that there were monsters around to... she didn't think she liked that as much. Why had no one told her!!

The little girl didn't try to move as Ida tried to clean her off, doing little more then scrunch her nose and smile a bit as her swipes brushed against some mildly ticklish spots.

At the offer to be taken home Evangeline quickly held her hand outward, nodding vigorously while spouting probably more information then she should be telling a complete stranger (even if she HAD just saved her). "Mom and Dad are having date night tonight, but I bet my babysitter will be looking for me soon." Hopefully she wasn't already looking for her! Eva would feel a little bad if Anna had been looking already and was worried...

With the free hand that was not demanding to be held Eva pointed towards the end of the street. "My house is two streets over."

A rather cheery voice chimed into the conversation.

"Ida... might I borrow the little one for a bit?"

It was hard to tell where the voice was coming from at first, until rather suddenly a chubby small cat stepped out from hiding. The senshi would easily recognize the animal, though the child might not have been any wiser.

The cat smiled in a knowing manner, waiting to get the permission she had just requested.

Automatically, Ida reached for the outstretched hand and took it, a smile breaking across her face. The hand felt so small in her own... had she ever been that little? She could remember when her brother had been this small, but that had been so much different... and she'd never had a little sister. A shame, really, she would have loved a little sister to take care of.

Following the pointed finger, the flower senshi had been about to head that way when she heard a voice, and a familiar one at that.

"*********?" She said as she turned, looking around for the guardian before spying her at the bottom of a hedge surrounding a yard. "Oh, um... Can you wait here a moment, Evangeline? I forgot something back there."

Ida gently ushered the girl off the street and off to the side before she came trotting back and crouched down in front of the cat. She offered ********* a rub under her chin as she frowned a little in worry. "That's a civilian girl, *********, I just saved her from a youma. What would you need... oh." The train of thought she had taken had led her to the only logical conclusion and she felt a rush of happiness followed by a sudden plunge of worry.

"But... she's so little, *********... If you awaken her, she's going to have to deal with all the horrible things we hide from civilians. Are you sure this is a good idea? She'll have it twice as bad as I do. At least I'm old enough to have some sort of freedom to hide my activities, and will she even understand what this is all about?"

********* played it cool, not trying to agitate the situation as Ida seemed to try to keep things on the down-low about ********* amazing vocalization skills. She sat her haunches down and silently waited until the super senshi was before her, scratching her beneath the chin.

She spoke in a low tone so the younger of the pair didn't hear her as well, keeping the conversation between herself and Ida.

In a matter of fact tone, she mentioned "Two of my own girls were just as young when they awakened."

However, that wasn't an argument for this particular discussion, just the mention of a fact. However, with a glance to the child in question, the cat spouted out some food for thought. "Let's say that she encounters another youma. If she remains unawakened, she will have no means to defend herself. At least if you let her awaken, she has a chance to save herself."

Turning to face Ida once more, the cat notably winked before mentioning "Plus, I have found that the chibi senshi are not fans of others underestimating their abilities. If you want to play with fate, then I would recommend instead of denying her of her own fate... that you become an active part of it instead."

The orchid senshi's shoulders slumped a little as she took in the logic of the guardian's words. It was fate for her to awaken, just as Ida had. And if she faced danger like this again, she would be far better equipped if she had the powers of a senshi. But... Ida knew first hand the evil the negaverse represented, and she didn't wish anyone to ever have to face that...

Still... Ida had already decided that she would train new senshi. Now seemed the time to embrace that personal vow she'd made. It seems she had gotten here at the perfect time, because this little girl, at least, wouldn't have to face her new role in life alone the way she had.

The dark-haired girl blew out a breath and nodded. "You're right. Of course." She said as she stroked one of ********* ears gently. "At least I can be here for this one. Hey, Evangeline? Come here and meet a nice kitty." Her voice rose on the second part and she gave the cat a grin before she turned to look for her new little friend.

((Sorry for the delay guys >w<))

Eva's head turned instinctively as a voice called out, though she was entirely oblivious to source of it. She saw no person after all, but it was dark outside. She might have tried to approach the chubby little kitty had she had enough time, but suddenly she was being lead someplace by Ida.

And then she was left!? Her eyes widened as Ida asked her to stay and quickly trotted off a small distance. Why did she leave her..? A pout was already beginning to form, her feet shuffling as she waited diligently. Had she done something wrong? Had the voice been one of Ida's friends and now she wanted to play with her more!? Her pony tail was drawn over her shoulder as her fingers began to play nervously in her hair. What about the monsters out here? Would they come back and get her now that Ida was busy doing something else!?

Thankfully Evangeline wasn't left to her own devices and worries for very long. And after a few brief moments of fretting, she heard her name called, quickly hurrying over to the other girl's side. And a kitty! That made it all even better!

All traces of her pout had already disappeared and been replaced by a sweet smile, crouching as she got near the chubby little cat. "Hello kitty-kitty! You're so tiny and cuteeeee." She couldn't help but coo as her fingers reached out tentatively for the cat to sniff. Always had to be cautious and make sure the animal was willing to be pet!

With a subtle purr, the guardian leaned up into the momentary affects to her ears. When the child approached, the cat settled back down to regular sitting position. The way she scampered over seemed to read of a girl eager to please, which would work more to her benefit if such was the truth.

The way she approached, crouching down and extending fingers out cautiously read of someone who also was familiar with animals. Perhaps she had pets of her own, or her parents were extremely careful and taught her the proper way to interact with animals. Whatever the case, nothing could prepare the child for the manner which the feline reacted to her.

"Well, thank you very much! I always thought I was on the cute side! You are quite cute too.... Evangeline... if I got the name correct." She paused long enough to toss a wink to Ida before waiting for whichever manner the child decided to react.

Children were more willing to blindly accept the fact a cat spoke to them. Others were more skeptical like some of the older senshi, and some would find themselves scared completely witless and run off in a panic.

In such cases, she had to improvise quite a bit more.

"Evangeline..." Ida said quietly as the girl approached and crouched down to make friends with the guardian. The voice that came from the cat was no doubt startling, the senshi knew first hand what it was like to hear it for the first time. She was here though, and the little girl was not in the middle of being attacked by a monster. Already, things were better than they had been for Ida's awakening.

"This is my friend *********. She wanted to meet you. Don't be worried... she's very nice, and she has something for you." The flower senshi said, putting encouragement into her voice. She didn't really expect Eva to be scared, but it was better to be prepared for anything.

Animals didn't usually talk in real life. Even if Eva often convinced herself that she totally understood just what Smoochy's squeaks or Button's mews were saying and would hold long one sided conversations with the family pets. But they DID talk all the time on tv and in the movies. So which was the full truth? And more importantly, did she really care? The momentary widening of her young eyes expressed curiousity, but it wasn't enough to detour her from the absolute wonderfulness of a cat that was indeed talking. To her. And complimenting her!

Grasping the edges of her shirt, Eva shifted in her step a little sheepishly to the compliment, seeming almost to apologize. "I'm all dirty though...."

Glancing up at Ida's introduction, the child nodded before looking back to the cat. *********. It was a funny name. Short and cute just like the kitty it belonged to. That thought seemed to wrinkle Eva's nose in a quiet giggle to herself.

"It's nice to meet you *********." She piped politely as she finally let her fingers settle softly on the cat's fur in a few gentle pets.
