Their parents dying is VERY important... need to think up a reason why this happened as well. Maybe they simply left their children which is why he has such personality flaws? That seems reasonable. He has hatred toward the world and whatnot maybe? Though not a fully bad person. His sister shows him the good in others everyday. That is something that she does on purpose to try and get his personality back to the way it was before their parents "left."
I think their parents simply not coming home one day seems semi plausible. They simply got tired of their children and didn't come back, leaving him to shoulder the responsiblities, though his sister has all the money making talent with her various parfumes and soaps. He is simply the poster child, though no one who comes into the shop knows that. He never works closely with his sister, always leaving to do other things. Sometimes will pick up various plants for her, but mostly leaves her to do those things on her own. Isn't so much the helping kind, though will help someone who is in dire need. Can be semi greedy sometimes, though he doesn't usually let that side of him show, even to his own sister.
He has some kind of secret(s)... Though it will have to be worked out in his history as to what. Maybe he saw/met his parents after they had left and confronted them about leaving his sister and himself to fend on their own... Maybe brag about how much better they are doing without their parents and deny letting their parents into their lives now. Parents are greedy and are only out for themselves. His parents are the dark side of humanity and everything that is wrong in the world. They use other people to profit themselves and to steal money.

Orchid is a very goal driven buck. In order for him to complete a task, it needs to have an obtainable end. He isn't the type to try at something if there is no way to finish it. Beyond the slight flaw of his blind goal oriantation, he is a very kind hearted buck. He enjoys spending time with his Chosen and his Chosen's sister, often helping them with their perfume buisness by finding wonderful smelling flowers and herbs to improve the scents. Being loyal to a fault, he doesn't leave anyone behind and helps when he is needed in any plausible situation.
