Heidi needed to spar more. She didn't do it enough..in fact... ...She'd done it like three times. Almost four! Almost. It had taken a raincheck. Totally worth it. She smiled as she fired another arrow at the training dummy, one to join the fading white arrow that it hit beside. Her aim was getting better but only on these targets. She needed more practice on moving targets. Hmm..was there anyone around right now? Heidi lowered her bow and held it pointed down toward the ground, turning on her heel and looking around the immediate area. First person she saw, whether she knew them or not, she was going to ask them for a spar.

Washington Becker was standing there, coat freshly laundered, trying to untangle his stupid scarf from the back of his shield.
It was fraying. He really needed a new one.

Oh look! There was someone now! Heidi grinned. "Heeeey!" She called out, waving an arm above her head. "Hey there! Heyyyy! You busy? Wanna spar?"
Oh, he looked kind of busy with his scarf. Oops. Maybe now wasn't a good time.

"Oh, uh." Wash looked up, then back down at his scarf.
"Jus' a sec."
Riiiiip.
A bit of it still dangled from the shield, but otherwise he was freed, and he strode over to stand beside the other hunter.
"Hey there, I don't think we've met. I'm Wash." He glanced at her jacket. "You a moon, too?"
Lowering his weapon, he held out his hand and grinned. "Nice t'meetcha. I figure we got time for a little introducin' before I let ya pincushion me, right?"

That poor scarf. How did he get all stuck anyway? Weird. Heidi smiled, lowering her arm as the older hunter approached her. She took his hand and shook it once. "Heidi, and yeah! You too? I like your shield." Perfect for Moon, right? He had an actual shield! It probably worked better than the rest of their weapons.
"Nice to meet you too! Oh yeah, totally. I'm not in like a rush or anything. And who knows maybe you'll beat me, my aim kind of sucks." She held up her bow. "A bow versus a shied'll be neat to try. I'm new to this, but don't go easy on me, okay?"

Rolling his shoulders, he stepped back and away, holding up his shield.

"I'll do my best!" Heidi laughed, stepping back away from Wash just as he did with her. Her weapon was best at a distance, plus she wasn't sure if his shield would make her own arrows bounce back at her or something.
"Yup! I'm ready! Come at me, bro."

Heidi grinned. "I'm not shy! Promise!" She drew back the string, sending an arrow straight at Wash's shield.
"So long you been here, Wash? I've only been here a couple months myself."

The arrow glanced off his coat, and Wash whistled. Close one.
"Huh. Good question. S'hard t'keep track, sometimes..." He thought about it. Had it really been over a year? "A while, though. Long enough to see a few good people come an' go," he added somewhat grimly.
He felt bad for her. This was not a kind place to young, pretty women.

Come and...go? Heidi blinked. Oh, he meant..
...Wow.
She did like sparring someone with a shield. It was like a challenge, could she hit him enough to pierce his shield? She didn't want to hurt him but it was a good test on Heidi and Matilda's strength! "Your weapon is perfect for Moon," Heidi complimented him with a giggle, drawing back for another arrow. It barely tapped the shield.

Wash grinned. "He's a funny guy. He give you the whole show or somethin'?" He remembered their intial demonstration with the shields - it had involved a certain division lead shooting their assistant.
Needless to say it wasn't a lesson he'd soon forget.
Her next shot bounced off his shield again, and with a rueful smile he lowered his arm. "Tell you what - how about I come at you with my fists, and you can practice shootin' that thing on a live target."
He didn't wait for an answer, desummoning Sally and darting forward.

"Well, he jumped in front of one of my arrows at first. It missed. And then when I freaked out at him about it he demonstrated by stabbing himself in the hand, wiggling the freakin' knife around, and then later stabbing himself in the stomach," Heidi explained with a shudder. That memory still made her sick to her stomach.
Huh? What? Oh god! "U-um! Okay..!"
And yet he didn't hit her. Heidi squeaked and backed off, taking advantage of him coming at her to fire another arrow at him.
