Despite all of Candace's warm invitations, it still took Gale quite a while to decide whether or not he was actually going to go and talk with her. It wasn't that he didn't want to - rather, he wasn't entirely certain he could put everything he was feeling into coherent sentences.
He went anyway, half because he wanted to see Candace, and it had been a while, and half because he was so starved for actual answers that a part of him was dragging him forward, pushing him to see if he could figure everything out.
He knocked on Candace's door with a bandaged hand, the other absently rubbing the one that wound about his head, covering the rather large gash the horseman had given him.
It itched.
"Candace? You in?"

Gale was acting strangely. Complicated. What was complicated? Was it serious? Was it silly? She couldn't wait to hear. What was taking him so long? Stop being stubborn! Just come over! She wanted to see him! She got up quickly when she heard the knock, stopping just short of opening the door. Candace smirked, opening the door and blocking the way in. She held the door open with one hand and leaned her other arm on the door jam, looking down at Gale with clear amusement. "No, I invited you over and then decided to leave before you arrived because I thought it would be funny," she teased affectionately, pushing off the door and gesturing for Gale to come inside. Once he had entered she closed the door. "Make yourself at home. You can hang up your coat, rela--what happened to y--how did you.." Why did he have bandages?! Was this the complicated issue!?

He gave her a Look.
"Sounds like something Bix would do," he said, and followed Candace into her room, absently tugging at a lock of his hair. It wasn't until he had made himself comfortable on her couch that he realized she was gaping at him.
"What?" he asked, and then remembered the bandages.
"Oh," he said, and scowled. "Horsemen. A mission gone wrong, thanks to that git Jake. I'm fine."
Except he wasn't, not really.

Candace's face was anything but approving of Gale's answer. ******** Jake. And no he was not fine he was covered in bandages. <******** horsemen. "Gale, don't lie to me." Her voice was firm, her tone one that was not to be argued with. Sighing, she disappeared into the kitchen and came back out with two cups of tea, setting one down on the coffee table for Gale before she sat down on the couch beside him. "So, what was it that's so complicated? Missions and injuries aren't really something that needs my advice." Candace sipped her tea and playfully pushed Gale's leg with her foot, smiling again. She wanted to know. What was it? What was iiiiit?

His face flushed, but he said nothing more, instead curling up sideways on the couch with his knees drawn up to his chest. Inside of his head, Jinhai made a soft, reassuring sound, and Gale reached for the cup of tea, cradling it in his hands for a moment and enjoying the warmth before he spoke.
"It's not about a mission or my injuries," he said finally, and took a sip of tea, swallowing. His cheeks turned even pinker, Gale struggling to figure out how to put what he wanted to say into the proper words.
"...it's about a girl."

A girl? Candace gasped with delight. A girl not Eva? He would have said Eva's name! Hm..who had she seen him with recently? ...Only Stormy. Oooh! Gaaaale~! "What about a girl?" Candace asked with a warm smile, sipping her tea again before she set it down. Gale had his big sister's completely undivided attention. kurotomato Be still Candace's shipper heart~ emotion_kirakira

She was way too excited about this. Gale's scowl deepened for a moment, but then it shifted, his expression moving to a less irritated, more frustrated one.
"...I don't know," he said quietly, one of his fingers absently rubbing along the rim of his teacup. "I thought...well, I hoped that I would be able to get over Eva quickly. I thought I would be able to finally put that behind me."
He took another sip, the tea burning down his throat.
"...I can't," he said, and the word was soft. "Not...not entirely, at least, though it's better than it was before. It still hurts, thinking about it. It still makes me angry that Otto was the one who won her heart and not me. But..."
He tried to figure out how to put this into words, because nothing seemed to be functioning properly inside of his brain, least of all the thoughts concerning those he cared about.
"...I don't know," said Gale. "I still like Eva, but then I found...someone else, and I think I might..."
He made a noise of frustration. "I don't know."

Oh dear. Now she was less excited. Candace calmed down and just listened and watched, turning on the couch to face Gale. Okay, so this was serious. It wasn't just some lovey dovey oh Candace help me I have a crush on a girl what do I do~ situation for him. She stayed quiet, wearing a perfect poker face until she knew how she should be reacting to this. He was so upset. She couldn't stand this. "Gale, come here," Candace finally said quietly, patting the spot on the couch beside her and then opening her arms out to him. "I know how it feels, to see someone you--" want was not the right word here..oh, "--care about being happy with someone who isn't you. It tears you apart inside, like your heart is being ripped out of your chest." It hurt so bad. "That..that someone you love..will...never love you in the way you do them, it hurts. It's agonizing." Candace really sounded like she knew what she was talking about. She waited for Gale to come to her, and if she did she would pull him into a crushing hug, her face against the top of his head. "It's okay, Gale~. I think you finding someone else is a step in the right direction. Who is she? Tell me about her, about the two of you. Maybe I can try and help you figure it out."

Reluctantly he shifted closer, inching across the couch until he was beside her, his cup of tea resting on the table in front of them. He leaned into her embrace and closed his eyes a little, pressing his lips together.
This was not the way things were supposed to be, he thought.
But nothing ever is, is it?
Gale pulled back enough that he could sit up straight, idly tugging at a corner of his scarf.
"That's the thing," he said. "I'm not sure I have found someone, because I don't know...I don't know if I like her that way or if I'm just..." He trailed off a little uncertainly.
"...it's Stormy," he said finally. "And it's...complicated. Very complicated. I don't know if what I feel is what I'm supposed to feel, or if I even feel that way towards her, and I don't know anything."

She kissed the top of his head when Gale came into her arms, letting the boy go when he wanted to sit up. "Well, feelings are complicated. Sometimes you feel something for someone, but you also feel the same thing for someone else at the same time. Or you feel stronger for someone, or you stop feeling for someone you want to." Candace shrugged. Emotions were hard. They got in the way a lot. For Gale's sake Candace didn't get too excited when he said it was one of her Mists, and one she had seen him with that she was hoping the best for. "Mm..tell me about Stormy." Candace asked with a little smile. She knew Stormy, she wanted to know how Gale behaved when he talked about Stormy. "I don't know her very well...and I was kind of stressed during that mission so..you might have to remind me how she looks as well." Yes, all of this was very important.

"This is why I've never dated," Gale muttered, half to himself, half to Candace. Granted, his entire lack of a "lovelife" (for lack of a better word) had partially to do with his age and his stature and the whole being at Deus thing, but another part of it had to do with the fact that he kept himself away from people. There was always a wall up, a guard to protect himself - and his heart - from things like the current mess inside of his head.
"She's..." Gale absently picked at a stray thread on the cuff of his sleeve. "She's a bit peculiar. She's dreamy - I mean that literally, as in she daydreams. She's easily distracted, and she changes subjects when she talks to you about a mile a minute."
The corners of his lips quirked upwards in a faint, almost-there smile. "She likes Disney. We built a snow-dog together when it was cold outside."
The smile faded, replaced again by a more frustrated expression. "She's...I don't know, she's just Stormy. I've been around her several times now, but I'm not sure if that's enough to gauge anything from."
He tugged a lock of his hair, giving Candace an agitated look.
"Dark hair," he said. "Dark eyes. Shorter than I am, with darker skin. She wears a little hat sometimes."

"It's one of the reasons I don't either," Candace agreed quietly while playing with Gale's hair. It was something she'd tried and just..it didn't work out. At least her relationship with Dakota was open and understood between the both of them. Maybe someday they would change it but for now it was..perfect. Candace listened and watched as Gale started to describe Stormy to her, eyeing his every move, even the smallest of twitches. Ah, she sees that almost-there smile. Candace continued to just play with Gale's hair, pretending to not pay as much attention to him as she really was. Gale was so adorable. "Ah, yes. I remember her now." She'd never forgotten her. Candace grinned. "And how does she make you feel? Just say whatever comes to mind, I can understand feelings being difficult to put into words."

Candace playing with his hair was somehow soothing. Gale drew both of his legs up against his chest and wrapped his arms around them, resting his chin atop his knees.
How does she make me feel?
It was a simple question, but a complicated one simultaneously. He did not have the experience that some had when it came to dating, to flirting, to agreeing to share your life with someone else. With Eva, it had been easy to fall into his feelings; she had been kind and gentle and treated him like an adult, like he mattered. Falling for her had just seemed natural at the time; the next step to his relationship with her.
This thing with Stormy, however, was just confusing.
"...I don't know," said Gale, after a moment. And then, in a softer tone of voice, "...good. She makes me feel like I matter. She's not...she's not like other people, sometimes she just says whatever comes to her mind, and sometimes she does things that frustrate me."
Jinhai was quiet inside of his head. Gale closed his eyes briefly.
"...but she's kind. She treats me well. She's got a big heart, it's just like she doesn't know how to handle that big heart of hers, and so things get confusing because I don't know how to handle someone like her either. And she's fragile, but she's strong, if that makes any sense."
He sunk a little lower in the couch, his fingers digging into his arms.
"And I just think that maybe I'm doing everything wrong."

Stormy did all that? Oh, she liked this girl more and more. "Sounds like she makes you happy. Even if your feelings for her aren't romantic," oh did she want them to be, "you at least have yourself a really, really dear friend."Candace glanced down at Gale's hands and frowned, gently picking at his fingers to stop him from hurting himself. "Why? What is there to do wrong?"
