Not seeing the rather dark, but excitement filled banners around the school was impossible. They were everywhere. He was certain even blind students had seen them at this point. It wasn't that they were gaudy or annoying really, just... one couldn't ignore it. He didn't particularly want to go, dances weren't exactly...

Well he'd been to enough not to want to go to them a lot. Large parties were boring. Though this was also THIS school, which with as much insanity as it had around it on any given basis. It seemed like it wouldn't end up another of those boring dances. Which left rather mixed feelings for the demon, seeing as it could very well mean terrible and awkward things. Not that any of those potential happenings could be nearly as awkward as he felt now. He was staring down at a cup of tea, steam still lifting off it as he carefully ran a finger along the rim of the cup. He didn't want to drink it until he cooled down, but honestly a distraction would have been welcome.

Because with the decision to go to Prom came the decision of asking someone. And well he'd known who he wanted to ask, but that whole asking part was the difficult thing. Which led to here. Sitting a cafe and having arrived a good twenty minutes early as he tried to figure out how to even bring it up. This wasn't exactly as easy as he'd thought it would be to word. A low sigh escaped him as he recalled back to his ever vague text he'd sent Miasma the other day asking for a moment of her time.

'If you're free, do you want to go to the Cafe that just opened near the Maul?'

Because that was totally normal for him. Though the place was nice, a quiet stream of music in the background and the servers were rather prompt. He eyed the glass again and sighed quietly. Asking a ghoul out was difficult. This was likely part of why he hadn't done so before.

He'd just have to figure it out when he got to that point.

THERE WE GO. *Zoidbergs out.*

Miasma had been more than happy to take up any reason to go to the maul, especially with prom nearing. Prom meant formal attire, and formal attire meant new clothes, which meant SHOPPING! Though, she had to admit the theme "Dark Carnival" had put a slight hamper on things, as she had to find an outfit to fit the theme. At least... she could wear her usual fuchsia colours and... maybe sneak in a bit of blue highlight. Regardless, she was extremely excited. And to top it all off, Molan had even asked her out! She hadn't seen the boil since... Moira's class? The memory of being surrounded by filth made her shudder, and she was more than happy to wash away this last reunion with a more pleasant one.

... ok, well, maybe it wasn't officially a "date" date, but... a text asking to meet in a cafe sounded pretty nice. She had been meaning to check it out for sometime. And so she had sent him a quick text that she would be more than happy to go, and had been spending the time earlier trying to look for the perfect dress for prom... but to no avail. By the time she arrived at the cafe, she was several minutes late, and looking slightly dejected. Seeing Molan though, had lifted her moods.

"Molan! Sorry, I hope you haven't been waiting long!"

He hadn't honestly thought it over too much. In truth, perhaps he'd already asked the ghoul out by inquiring if she wanted to meet for coffee. Or in his case tea. He'd been too stuck on figuring out how to handle inquiring about prom to even let it come to mind that he'd already managed the endeavor once.

Sort of.

Asking someone to prom and having them agree to a friendly cup of tea were two VERY different beasts. And he had yet to tackle the first. Which was why he hadn't even realized Mia was late, rather he was still staring at his cup in silence and trying to go over good ways to bring it up and even phrase it as the ghoul walked up. Sadly, the chipper tone caught him off guard and he jumped a bit at the sudden noise, nearly spilling the cup in his hands in the process. Luck alone was the only reason he wasn't covered in tea. Still, he did quickly recover to offer up a smile to the ghoul as he worked to regain the composure again. He lifted hand to gesture to the open chair across from him as he spoke up to reply, working to keep a calm face. "Not at all. How have you been?" Polite useless chatter, but it's not like he could just... cut to the chase.

Though he really had to figure out how he was going to bring it up. "Were you out shopping?" She had come from the direction of the shops and well... it would be characteristic for her. So it made sense, but really he was just finding things to fill space. Because then he didn't end up in that awkward silence with the dreaded 'is there a reason you called me out today? question. Because then he'd no longer have his buffer to try and figure out a way to ask.

One does not simply ASK a ghoul out.

Slightly out of breath, she had... actually started running towards the cafe at some point, because really, being tardy on a date-er, "meeting" with Molan was unforgivable, but she tried not to let it show as she smoothed out her dress, plopping down in the chair across from him and placed the few shopping bags she had managed to secure hanging off the back of her chair. Though this all, she hadn't even noticed him seeming slightly jumpier than usual, and only offered him a smile as she tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

"I'm good. How about you?" The moment she said that, she wanted to drag a palm down her face. What kind of response was that?! In truth, she was a little nervous too, not quite sure what to say. Should she... thank him for carrying her back to the dorms last time? But... she was in such a ridiculous state, and... The memory brought a slight blush to her cheeks, and when Molan asked another question, she was more than happy for the distraction.

"Ah, yes! I was trying to look for a gown for prom, but the colour scheme I wanted seems quite difficult to find, not to mention the accessories and accents I'd like to accompany it. I think I may have to buy materials to custom-make one instead..." She sighed, cheek resting in her hand as she stared at the other patrons. Making a dress was hard work. Maybe... she could get it custom-made, but knowing her taste, it would cost... an extravagant amount of pumpkin seeds. Perhaps she could at least buy the shoes and handbag?

Poor Molan would find that she was completely immersed in thought, though at least this meant she hadn't really thought of the exact reason why he had asked her out today... maybe.

Ah casual conversation. So harmless, so safe. So boring. He really hated it, but for once was the one who'd actually initiated it. Normally he'd have chided himself for the stupid mistake, but it was buying him time. Oh so precious time. "I've been well." The reply fell easily after her question, not too much thought put into it. Such things were simple, you didn't really NEED to think about it. It was what came next that threw a few cogs in the system and left him a bit frozen as Miasma went on about her shopping woes.

And off into her own world.

Probably a good thing for Molan, as he'd frozen up a bit like a deer caught in headlights at the very mention of the prom. Ears perked at attention and looking rather sheepish at the whole mention of it. There might have even been a hint of color as if he thought she'd guessed why he'd asked her out to talk. Or not, seeing as she was off trying to figure out how she was going to afford her dress for the event And not asking him about his own plans. This was a good thing? ...maybe. Did her bringing it up mean she was hoping he'd ask? ...maybe? He was getting that internal reply from himself a lot, he really just wanted some definite answer. Still, he coughed after a moment, taking a sip of his tea as he glanced to see if maybe the server would be buy to help out Miasma with her own drink soon as he replied.

Though his voice was a bit less than steady. Mia had obviously managed to hit a chord with her topic choice. "I see, yes.... yes it would be a difficult theme I suppose?" He was babbling a bit, eyes trailing off to one side and avoiding her general direction as a whole. "Something custom made is more personalized anyway? And no one would have a similar outfit so it's better?" It didn't particularly occur to him that not everyone had a budget for that. Of course he'd have a custom made outfit. He always did for events. "So you were planning to go then?" Stupid question, not meant to be asked... but there it went before he even really thought about it.

OF COURSE SHE WAS GOING! Why else would she want a dress? If she hadn't been in front of him then he'd probably have face palmed from his own stupidity at that. Uhg bad ideas were bad.

It was only until she heard a cough from him that she realized her thoughts had... wandered off again, and there was a slight flush to her cheeks. How rude of her! And after Molan had so kindly invited her to this nice place. She distracted herself from her blunder by calling a waiter over, using the menu to cover her face. How... how embarrassing!

"I... I'd like a glass of iced tea please." she mumbled, taking a few quick breaths to calm herself when the waiter went to get her order. Why was she making a complete fool of herself?! This was... a nice get-together with Molan, one of the first friends she made, nothing more! So then, why was she so nervous?

At least, when Molan commented about her dress dilemma, she was able to calm down a bit, offering him a nervous smile. "Y-yes, it wouldn't do to have the same outfit as someone else. Perhaps I'll get it custom-made. I don't think I'll have time to make one myself, with examinations so close and all..." The career aptitude test had completely caught her off guard, and she had her own exam to worry about too, not knowing when the professor would call her in. Though she did her best on the aptitude test, she was still... worried about it. Fail and you won't get to graduate? The questions weren't even all that serious at all! Not to mention she couldn't even make out one of them...

But stuff like that could wait. Right now, she was having prom dilemmas! (Yes, this was more important than failing school).
"Y-yes! I wouldn't miss it for the world! I suppose you are too?"
... OH JACK why did she even ask that? Of COURSE he was going to go, if he asked.
... Right? Maybe? PROBABLY?

Meanwhile, Psy was currently resting on Mia's shoulder, wondering what exactly had the two students so embarrassed and at a complete loss of words.

The cough hasn't been meant to fluster her, but apparently it had. He didn't mind her trailing off into thought, it had once again saved him from awkward questions he didn't feel like answering. This was his fault afterall, he'd asked for her time and hadn't properly prepared before hand. Tsk tsk. How tasteless. Still, he offered a brief smile to the waitress as she took the order and paused at the odd look she'd briefly given them both before going on her way. Wait had she..? (Waitress catches on faster than the stooges.)

Either way he didn't have any real time to worry about it and glanced back to the reaper as she spoke up again. "Right, exams... I suppose I'll hear about mine any day now..." And the aptitude test was a doozy on it's own. So much at once. Prom, exams, and then... WELL! He'd managed. "I'm sure we'll manage." He offered another smile at that point, pausing as she spoke again. Right. There was the dreaded question. "Er, yes. Yes, I do intend to go." Maybe, if he didn't make an absolute and utter fool of himself today. If that happened he was going to hide in his hole and not dare to show his face. Mockery from his brother accepted and all.

Still the question was there, so perhaps it would be better to just... get that out of the way. Since it was kind of out in the open at the moment, more fluid. And then he could be told no and the rest of the chat would be a bit ruined. Fabulous. "Do you... uh-" No, that was a terrible way to put it. He stared down at his glass a bit, tapping at the rim again. "I mean, well-" How to ask. Well he'd always been a bit blunt, sadly he usually spoke a bit slower. As the question was a rather long stream of words escaped him in a mess that was meant to be him asking. Hopefully she could pick out the important parts. "Wouldyouperhapsliketogowithme?" He'd looked up only a moment when he'd been asking, then back down to his cup as he waited to be told 'nope nope nope.'

Because that was anything but smooth. He likely didn't want anyone to see his face at that exact moment either, best to keep to the tea. Tea was safe for now.

Molan's comment was reassuring as always, and she only nodded, giving him a small smile. "Yes, I suppose we will. Whether it's shadowlings, book creatures, being transformed in foxfires... exams hardly seem like something to be worried about." Really, they had been through a lot already, so what did it matter if they had to endure a trial or two more? They were students at the prestigious Amityville Acaademy. They could handle anything there way.

Though, when Molan mentioned he was going to prom, she only stared at him, and when the waitress arrived with her drink, she was more than happy to have it as a distraction, sipping the drink through a straw while keeping her head down. If Molan was going... surely he wouldn't go stag, right? She hadn't wanted to think about it, but wasn't he... dating that other fox boil she had seen him kiss at... No, it was that other fox boil who had kissed Molan, but... didn't that mean... Molan wouldn't be interested in...

When he started stuttering, she lifted her head, giving him a baffled expression. What was he...
She hadn't been able to hear exactly what he had said, but had managed to pick out a few words. Namely the last 3 words. She stared at him wide-eyed, trembling slightly. "What... did you just say?"

He nodded. Honestly, after the oddities this school had thrown at every random whim. He wasn't so worried about what a little exam could do. What could they surprise him with this time? The worst was probably a certain fire brat or the thunder road in all truth. So he merely shrugged it off and let it be dismissed. It wouldn't be that bad after all. Though now he was beginning to wonder how many times he'd said that... he should take a moment to count it. Because the first one was when he'd first agreed to come to the school and then..? Hmnnn...

Honestly, his pride probably wouldn't have let him go on his own. Not unless his brother drug him along like that time at scarentines. Which ended rather oddly and with the two of them apart... and then there was that time with the tree. Truly thinking it over, this whole prom event was probably going to end up just as chaotic. It might have been a dance, but the school was sponsoring it. Anything they touched seemed to have unique results. Particularly odd ones at that. Oh well, too late, he'd... sort of made a decision.

After all, he'd just sort of stuck his own foot in his mouth. He took a bit of a breath as he twitched an ear from his downcast spot as she spoke, a slow cautious glance up offered. And then as she spoke he wasn't quite sure how to take it. Was it that it was bad that he'd asked, or that he had spoken too fast? He had kind of messed that up, but at the same time... "I-" He paused, ears a bit low as he glanced off. "Er it's fine. Nevermind." Maybe... it would be better if he didn't go. Then the chaos wouldn't be a problem he'd have to worry about.

She hadn't really been thinking too much about who she was going with, as the dress dilemma seemed to outweigh all other problems at the time, but now that Molan had brought it up... Of course she wanted to go with him. He was... technically, one of the first friends she made, and though now she felt somewhat guilty for treating him like a pack mule when they first met, he hadn't complained at all, or hated her for it, and she really appreciated that. But... after that Scarentine incident, she had told herself to not treat their relationship as anything more than friends. Possibly good friends. After all, if he was already taken, she had no intention of fighting for him, no matter how much she liked him. It wouldn't be fair for him, if he shared the same feelings, nor for the other party, who probably liked him equally as much. She herself was still trying to sort out her own feelings, not quite sure if she considered Molan anything more than just a friend. She hadn't come to this school just to seek out a boilfriend, but had came to hone her skills as a contractor, but... sometimes, things just happen and you can't control them.

So when Molan told her to forget about it, her heart ached, and before she could stop herself, she slapped her hands on the table, getting up. "W-wait! Molan, I-" It was then she realized that half the cafe was pretty much staring at her, and she quickly sat back down, averting her gaze as her face burned with embarrassment.

"W-were you... asking me to go to Prom with you?" She sank into her chair, fists clenched in her lap as she tried to control the blush that was threatening to take over.

Oh if she had even brought up that certain fox. It likely wouldn't have ended well. The things he could have said in regards to a certain little voice that had popped up in his head recently(and confirmed he might be a bit crazy) among other things. But there were several choice words he had to describe the boil who chose to show up at the worst times(it was a wonder he hadn't shown up just now to be honest) and seem to ruin things in his own special way. Thankfully, a familiar voice hadn't popped up as he sort of realized he'd ruined everything and possibly a friendship, and he'd have to tell Etzer to go apologize for him later. Because text ones were no good, but he wouldn't exactly be able to show his face around anyone. But that was all for the future and here he was, still in awkward land of not being sure what to say.

And to be fair, he wasn't entirely sure why he was asking Miasma. He liked her, yes, but did he like her like her? Like that kind of like? And how many likes did it take to get to the center of a tootsie po-

Right. The point was he himself wasn't entirely sure, so perhaps the whole idea was a big, horrible, giant mistake. Or perhaps not. He froze up a bit as she slammed her hands down, not so much afraid, but realizing that perhaps this was a worse idea than he'd first imagined. Though her tone wasn't exactly angry. Rather, he blinked a bit owlishly at her as she sat back down, glancing around at the stares and going back to his rather sheepish appearance of trying to disappear into his chair again. "Well. Yes." That really wasn't fair, she got to inquire so calmly, and here he had been stressed over it. Life was cruel in such a way. Just not as cruel as usual today, as Mia had chosen to speak up again this time equally as fast.

Though a lot quieter. This was one of those times it was good his ears weren't merely for show. Or possibly in general, since it seemed like the reaper had a habit of getting quiet when she was embarrassed. Which was actually kind of cute, but there was obviously hope. Or more than this. Seeing as, well she did want to go. He blinked a few more times before smiling, slowly, though nothing huge. Afterall, he was still feeling rather still about it all. Partially just because he'd sort of panicked. "Ah then it's-" Right, well this thing? This was a meeting, but well... that was. "Then yes." And so, it was an actual date.

Oh wouldn't his brother be excited to hear his dear anti-social sibling was actually going out with someone on a date. After years of making jokes about it. Though honestly, being out from under that bit of torment opened up another, not that he was too worried about it for now.

[A.V.]
After many years of torment... Molan ends up on a date. Or well with plans for one. And somehow didn't end up covered in tea. Good show Molan. Good show.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 10, 2013 9:04 pm

It was a good thing they couldn't hear each other's thoughts, or it would have led to more awkward conversations, but as it was, Miasma was still extremely giddy about being asked by Molan, though one thing still seemed to weigh on her mind.

Waiting for the gaze on them to fade, she cleared her throat, narrowing her eyes at anyone who still seemed to stare at them, and when the last busybody decided that the excitement had died down, she turned her eyes back to Molan, face still slightly flushed from the turn of events.

"Not to seem ungrateful or anything, and... I really would like to go with you, but... I had thought... you might have asked that other fox boil for his accompaniment, or, uh, vice versa, since you two seemed, um... rather close..."

Thankfully, at least, creeple tended to get bored when nothing else happened. There was a lovely bit of silence to let things settle in as well while they waited for that. But she had said yes, which was a plus. Or perhaps it was just the look Mia had given to the last few. In truth, Molan was good at dealing with those close to him and putting a stop to things, but at the same time... perhaps the reaper's methods were more efficient than his ever would be. She was just better with crowds and the like really.

Too bad that silence didn't last, because just as he went to take a sip of his own tea a question he... rather didn't feel like discussing came up. If it was possible for the boil to get any more pale, he probably did at the mention of a certain ghost as both ears fell. Right, THAT. He coughed down the tea before speaking up again, obviously not entirely sure how to put it. That was... that was complicated. Well, not really. It wasn't him that thought anything, it was that other him. Right, things were simple. The other him's thoughts on the matter really didn't matter at all. It was... well Mia's timing was poor. Since he'd only just had that particularly strange dream. That had NOTHING at all to do with wanting to go to prom with someone else. Nothing. No connection. ...ok. Maybe a little. But he still liked the ghoul so it was normal, right?

"He's... more of a stalker than anything." One who followed because of a world that didn't exist, right? "He seems... well he has a strange fascination with following me. It's not mutual." Unless you ask that weird other self from his dream. Then things became complicated. "He's quite the bother really." The last bit was said with a bit of a huff as he frowned. Not so much at Miasma, but more the fact he even had to think about it again. "Please ignore what happened that day. It shouldn't even have occurred." Right. Because pretending it never happened so worked... really.

Well at least one misunderstanding was fixed though.

Mia listened to his response quietly with her hands folded underneath her chin, arching an eyebrow when he ended up sputtering on his tea. Oh dear, she hoped he didn't get any on his robes. Stains were always quite a bother, on any type of clothing.

When he finished his explanation, Miasma was still looking at him curiously, and then let out a soft laugh.

"A stalker? Well, I guess I should be too surprised. You are a pretty good-looking boil."

Lowering her hands, she reached out to pat Molan on the arm.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to pry. It's been on my mind for a while, and I guess I just wanted to know to satisfy my own curiousity. Sorry."

Really, a true friend wouldn't ask such a question, at least not such a personal one. So what if there had been something? It wasn't in her place to question it. Or was it because she was secretly jealous? She really didn't understand these feelings she had. She clenched one of her hands, forming a fist.

"Molan." She reached out again, taking his hand, and opening his palm, she reached out with her clenched fist, opening it, and the foxboil would find this in his palm:

User Image

"You know, Molan, you're one of the first friends I made ever since I came here. I'm really glad I got a chance to meet you... albeit.. our meeting occurring from such a thing." She still felt somewhat bad accidentally hitting him in the head... and then... proceeding to make his her lacky for the rest of the day. It was a good day... all in all, and he was still her friend. Bonus! She pulled her hands away, smiling at him.

"It would mean a lot to me if you took that as a form of my gratitude. I haven't... really given out my pin to anyone, but it's special to me, and I'd just like you to know you're a special friend of mine too."

Surprisingly, he'd managed to stay amazingly clean. Years of practice helped. Because Etzer did try to make a habit of leaving him sputtering here and there. Still, he was as least glad he'd properly gotten the... misunderstanding taken care of. Stalker properly labeled and elephant in the room discussed. Excellent. Smoothly done.

Though he felt as if he'd only just regained his composure when the next comment to come left him a bit more embarrassed than he wished to be. "A- well. I-" Nope. Talking wasn't working. He'd just let it go. "Er thank you." And eye contact was once more forbidden as he enjoyed staring at the ground over there. Yes. He'd gotten quite good at that. He didn't get to examine it long though, as her hand on his arm did draw his gaze back to that, though he still wasn't really meeting her gaze. "Oh, no, it's nothing. Don't worry about it. It was best to explain anyway." He quickly replied, lifting his free hand to wave it while shaking his head a bit. Nope, he didn't mind at all.

Stalkers were not something he had any attachment to.

Still, he didn't really worry over it long. Mia had spoken up again, this time taking his hand, and potentially creating more questions than he wanted to try and answer, before helping to shove them back down by placing a pin in his palm. Wait, maybe that didn't answer the questions and made them more pressing. Oh dear jack...

Ok, well at least Mia did. Right. Friends. Friiiiends. Shut up brain. Friends. Though he did smile a bit, awkwardly, but it was a smile. He wasn't exactly used to being told someone was glad for having met him. At least not truthfully. Sure, everyone was quite polite at parties, but Mia had nothing to gain from getting along with him, so he really was happy, even if he wasn't exactly sure how to express it. "Wouldn't it be a bit unfair to merely thank me? After all, you've also been my friend in return." He replied after a moment, closing his hand up on the pin after staring at it in silence for a moment. Though, her comments... first... friends since coming. Which meant she had others. Of course, it was to be assumed. But...

Well they were out of the picture anyway. He didn't need to worry over it. Still, he was happy. "Of course I'll accept such a kind gift, but on one condition." As he said it, he lightly moved to pluck a pin of his own before holding it out to her.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

"I haven't exactly given any out-" Though he was certain his brother had run off with one. "-myself, so if you would accept it, I'd be happy." He added, smiling. She was a close friend of his, and he did want her to have one. It was an odd thing, he hadn't really thought about it... but well. "Because I consider you a close friend as well." Ignoring the odd turns that his mind sometimes suggested of course.
