At five seconds past seven o'clock in the evening, Tuck knocked on Heidi's door. For their date. He'd planned everything out as best he could in such a small amount of time, and with a little help from Evan (and some bribes thrown around to the Life division) things were looking pretty great. Tuck had never done anything like this before in his life. He was terrified of ******** it up.

A date. A real date. This was both the most exciting thing and the most nerve wracking thing ever. Dress, dress...did she even have a skirt of some kind? When she had packed to come here she had mostly just randomly thrown the contents of her closet and dresser in. It took twenty minutes of searching, finding nothing, and then just looking again before she finally found a breezy white spring dress jammed between two thick winter coats. She blinked. Where did this come from? Taking it out and holding it against her told her it could possibly fit. She wasn't sure where the dress came from or if it was actually hers, she doubted it, but it would work for a date!
Was getting ready always this hard? How could other girls her age do this every day?!
She'd cleaned up, changed, and even found a lipgloss in one of her jean pockets. Score! Oh, but..shoes...
Would a pair of converse do? She didn't..really...have 'date' shoes...
...She'd clean them.
Oh god what was she even doing.
By the time Tuck arrived she had at least calmed down and finished getting ready, so when she heard the knock on the door she was her normal self when she answered. Well..excited normal. She grabbed her overnight bag and let it just hang from her shoulder for now, hurrying to the door.
"Hey!" She greeted him with a huge smile. This was really happening. Nope. Noooope. She was going to stay calm. This was just a date, a date with a very good friend. "Is this okay?" Heidi gestured to the dress, pointedly ignoring the fact that she was wearing pink converse with a dress. It was totally normal. Yup.

It took a lot of control for Tuck not to let out a loud whistle when he saw Heidi standing in her door. He didn't have that kind of control. Never had. So the hallway was filled with the loud, piercing sound of a whistle, because Tuck was a very classy man.
He wasn't really sure what to say.
Did he stay bro? Bros on a date, it happened all the time. What was a bro thing to say?
Or did he go the other route and speak his mind with honesty - that she looked pretty goddamn hot, pink converse and all - and that he kind of wondered what she was wearing beneath it.
Stay bro, man. Stay so bro.
"It's fine, you look nice," he grinned and offered his arm to her so that they could make their way to the destination he had in mind. "You got a bag to bring with?"

The whistle had Heidi blushing, her eyes widening a little. O..kay...so he liked the dress. She cleared her throat and pursed her lips to try and hide her smile, though it was hard to hide the giggle as she stepped out of her room and closed the door behind her. She had no idea what had gone through Tuck's mind just then, and quite frankly it was probably a good thing or she would have no idea what to say. What do you say to that?
"Thanks! I'm not sure where it came from..oh well, mine now~." It had probably belonged to her friend from home, it did look vaguely familiar now. Tuck liked it, she liked it, it could stay. Heidi took the offered arm, glancing down and even holding his hand after looping her arm through his. That was nice. "Hm? Oh, yeah." Heidi raised one shoulder and pat her messenger bag with her free hand.
"Sooo what're we doing~?" Heidi asked as nonchalantly as she could manage. The curiosity the past few hours had been killing her; she wanted to know so bad.

"Top secret," Tuck squeezed her hand with his, taking a moment to enjoy that small, innocent contact. "But I will tell you that this is gonna be the night of twenny questions, and I'm even gonna let you start by askin' the first one soon as we get to where we goin'."
It didn't take them long to get where they were going. At all.
He brought them to a stop just outside of his dorm room door.
"Uh. We're here."

Ooh~! A secret. Fun, she liked surprises! Heidi raised a brow as Tuck explained there were going to be a lot of questions. Like what? He didn't have to take her on a date to ask her questions!
They stopped outside his room and she blinked. In here? Heidi looked from the door to Tuck and back again. "Oh?" She smiled and reached for the door to open it and look inside. "What've you done~?"

The room was dim, but not entirely dark. The few lamps in the room had been covered by a few pieces of cloth that he'd gotten from the quartermaster. One was a red bandana which cast a ruddy light around the room, and the other was blue. The effect was colorful, to say the least, but it also lent the room a cozier glow.
Tuck's blanket was spread on the floor, and there was a laundry basket that sufficed as a ghetto picnic basket of sorts. Kind of. Okay, it was really ghetto, but the point was that he'd set up a little picnic for them.
It's the thought that counts, okay?
Strung around the room were tiny balloons. He'd found them stuffed deep into a cabinet in the common room near his dorm. He didn't question why there were balloons - probably from some party long, long ago, considering the quality of the balloons themselves. Some of them were half-inflated, and some of them were even deflated completely. Plastered on the wall right next to the door was a big hand-written sign that loudly proclaimed HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY, HEIDI.
On his desk was a boombox, ratty and small, which glowed with runes. It had cost him half of his next paycheck. Bartering for s**t was expensive, especially bartering with the assholes in Life.
Tuck cleared his throat.
"Them balloons was full when I came to get you."

Heidi's first reaction was a gasp, stepping into the room and looking all around. She let go of Tuck as she stepped away, her face the picture of surprise. It didn't bother her that the balloons were dying, or that their picnic was packed in a laundry basket, this was the most thoughtful thing she could recall anyone ever doing for her. She had the biggest smile on her face, stopping at the sign and giggling. She couldn't help it, she was so happy. "Tuuuuuuck," Heidi squealed despite his words, dropping her bag by the door and moving to throw her arms around Tuck in a tight, tight hug. "This is, like, the most awesome thing. Seriously! Like..ohmygosh..."
She giggled again and nuzzled her face against Tuck, grinning so hard her cheeks were already starting to feel sore. "This is the best! You're the best. This is awesome. Like..I don't...this is..you remembered!" Heidi tilted her head back to look up at Tuck, her hug relaxing as she leaned against him. "I didn't think you'd actually do it. Not like..because I didn't trust you or anythin' but like oh man this is so awesome thank you so much!" Finally she let him go and turned around to look into the room again. Music, a picnic..ahhhh so awesome!
"You did all of this today?" Of course he did, Heidi. You were just here this morning and none of this was here.

Tuck closed the door behind them, jamming his hands into his pockets as he made his way into the room. He was beaming from ear to ear at the hugs, the squealing, the all-around giddiness that she exuded. It had been a huge pain in the a** to set everything up, but he'd do it again in a heartbeat if it ended in the same result.
Drawing up next to her, Tuck reached out to press his hand against Heidi's lower back, effectually urging her towards the blanket he'd arranged on the floor.
"'Course I remembered," his voice was rough around the edges, and his smile hadn't faltered. "I got Evan to make some food, no idea what he packed. Hope you're hungry. I stole some of Gnat's music - she got some weird s**t, but it makes for some good background noise."
Tuck sprawled out on the floor and started rooting around in the laundry-picnic basket.

Heidi was easily guided to the blanket and sat down, carefully getting on her knees since..sitting how she would normally sit was not going to happen in this dress. Maybe she should've worn leggings or something, that would've made this easier.
Evan made the food? She didn't really know Evan..hm...oh! He was that guy with Gnat, right? Right, right. Neat! "Starving," Heidi laughed. She may have forgotten to eat while getting ready and waiting for Tuck. It was a possibility.
Okay it was what happened.
She fell quiet when Tuck pointed out they were listening to Gnat's music. Well, she tended to just..tune out music anyway if it was in the background. There were a lot of songs Heidi liked simply for the sound and had no idea what the lyrics or the song was actually about. Some people were nice enough to let her stay completely oblivious to it. "It sounds fun so far." She scoot closer to Tuck, putting her head on his shoulder to look into the basket as well. Heidi was still smiling. "Aren't you glad I left this up to you? I wouldn't have had any idea what to plan for us." He was lucky she found a dress as he requested, man.

"Me too," Tuck admitted. Then again, he was always starving. He had a really special relationship with food. As in, he loved to eat the s**t out of it.
Tuck cleared his throat when Heidi put her head on his shoulder, though he turned slightly to plop a kiss against her temple. A totally bro kiss. Totally bro.
Okay, it totally wasn't, but ******** it. She was happy, he was happy. It was going to be a good time.
Tuck produced from the basket a few sandwiches: a few peanut butter and jelly, a few more of varying lunchmeats. There was also some sliced fruit - apples, oranges, whatever Tuck had been able to scrounge up here and there. He'd gotten a few juice boxes, too, since they were pretty handy. Last, but certainly not least, Tuck produced a slightly smushed chocolate muffin (still in the wrapper).
"An' the crown jewel," Tuck presented it with a very manful flourish, "your cake, Heidward."
He settled it in her lap with a grin before offering her first picksies for the sandwiches.
"I guess. Bet you coulda done somethin' pretty fancy, though." Tuck squinted at the failed balloons. "I'm glad you like it, though. Been a while since I done somethin' like this."

Her breath caught when she felt Tuck's lips against her temple. Wh..what was that for? Matilda breathed a soft sigh in the back of Heidi's mind. Youth~. Heidi just blinked and rubbed one of her cheeks almost self consciously, pursing her lips to hide a tiny smile. That felt nice. But Tuck was a bro, she shouldn't feel silly and happy and giddy over a kiss. She moved to settle down beside Tuck, putting a hand on the skirt of her dress to keep it in place while she rearranged herself to sit more comfortably. There, that was better. She kind of had to lean against Tuck to stay upright but she at least tried not to force all of her weight on him, supporting herself with one hand while the other reached out for what Tuck was offering her. Aw! That was so sweet of him! Heidi giggled.
"Thank you, Tuckella. You really didn't have to do all of this just for me~." It was partially a tease but mostly infinite gratitude. She unwrapped the muffin and picked a piece off it, offering it up to Tuck. "Want a bite?"
At Tuck's belief that she would come up with something fancy she gave a small 'pfft' in reply, grabbing one of the lunchmeat sandwiches first. "I don't really plan fancy things well. It's a miracle I even have a dress," Heidi reminded him with a giggle. It felt like this smile was going to be a permanent feature on her face for the night, she didn't even care that her cheeks were already protesting from the constant laughing and smiling she'd been doing today. "Tuck, I love it. Really. This is, like, the most thoughtful thing anyone's ever done for me. Thank you." She paused, humming thoughtfully and just looking up at Tuck.
After a few moments of mental debating she leaned up to return the kiss from earlier, giving Tuck a quick kiss on the cheek before she settled down again. There. That was good~.

Bro. Bro. Bro. Bro.He chanted it in his head like a mantra while he leaned forward to take the offered piece of muffin from her fingers. With his mouth. Bro. Bro. Bro. Bro.Tuck leaned away from her just slightly, better situating himself so that Heidi could brace more of her weight on him if she wanted to. "Just wish it was bigger." He choked on the muffin. "The party. Date. What I'm tryin' to say is I wish I coulda done a bigger birthday party for you. I like this better, anyway. You get too many people millin' around and s**t goes crazy." Bro. Bro. Bro. Bro. So ******** bro.Aw ********, and then she kissed him. What the ******** about her made him feel like a thirteen year old boy? It was probably the fact that she was so damn innocent. He reached for a sandwich to distract himself, and a very horrible song came on.

Heidi giggled as the muffin piece was taken from her fingers with his mouth, tearing off another piece of muffin for herself with a happy little sound. She loved chocolate, so this had definitely been the right choice for 'birthday cake'. Tuck said something and then choked, getting Heidi's attention fairly quickly. What? "You okay? Don't eat too fast." She pouted her lips in fake disapproval as she sat up straight and rubbed his back, she even grabbed a juice box and offered it to him. Maybe he'd swallowed his muffin wrong while he'd been talking, she did that all the time with food. "Good thing you're not a vampire, Tuckella. I'd have to teach you how to eat from the looks of it." What had he been saying before? He wished..oh! Bigger! Right! Heidi chuckled and shook her head. "Nah, I like this. I was never really good at having parties centered around me, big ones I mean. So yeah, this is perfect, trust me." She was being completely obvious. Heidi never knew what to do if she was the center of attention from more than a handful of people at one time, so this was great. Her muffin was placed safely on its wrapper so she could grab a juice box for herself and start eating her sandwich. It wasn't until the chorus that she actually caught what song was playing. Heidi blinked. "Your sister listens to some old stuff." A song that came out before she was born definitely qualified as old. "Oh!" She turned back to Tuck, smiling again. "You said this was going to be a night of questions. What'd you wanna ask me?"

Tuck was convinced that Heidi was going to kill him. Seriously kill him. If he didn't know better, he'd think that she was doing it on purpose, the whole innocent act. The thing was, he knew it wasn't an act. Not even close to being an act. "I'm okay, I'm okay." He took a long draw from the juicebox, emptying the small container with a few deep swallows. When it was gone, Tuck crushed the cardboard in one hand before tossing it across the room. It landed perfectly in the small garbage can that sat next to the desk. "Yeah. Old stuff." He refused to listen to the lyrics. Nope. Maybe some shitty N*Sync song would come on. Knowing his sister like he did, he was surprised there wasn't more shitty N*Sync. "Well," Tuck took a monster bite from the sandwich, chewing thoughtfully before he continued, "we can take turns askin' questions. Any kinna questions. Personal ones, crazy ones. You ever play truth or dare? Kinna like that, but with no dares." He paused. "Less you wanna dare." Tuck slowly took another bite of his sandwich.
