He had remembered the name that could only belong to one person on this entire island. Not because he was special in any way, but because a Polish man's name always stuck out.
It was very long, hard to pronounce, and this time it was attached to someone who insisted on calling him something very rude.
Kostya didn't hold grudges. Not really. But he couldn't resist the urge to politely sidle up to Lucky (a good distance away, say, four feet, out of arm's length--) while the green-haired Life hunter was happily clacking away at a computer. Manically, almost.
"Hello," he said evenly, in Russian. "Care to spar outside?"

As ironic as it would have been to catch the Pole fiddling with the local messaging system on the island, by the time Kostya had found him it almost looked like he was actually working. Well. Possibly. There were several windows open on the screen and in every one of them was a jumble of letters and numbers and the occasional hint of a recognizable word attempting to tame the chaos around it in the form of a command. Not particularly effectively.
Lucky turned sharply at the words - rarely did he hear anything he could understand on his own, without the aid of Song's consciousness converting words into base meaning and intention. For how crass he thought of the language in question, it made English seem crude in comparison.
"Ah," Lucky made a noise of almost patronizing understanding. He continued to type, splitting his attention in bursts between Kostya and code, calculating in his head the odds of whether or not Bashmet had a particularly nasty magic murder sword at his disposal. One could never be too careful about that here. He returned the cold greeting in kind, with an accent that would sound slightly off to Kostya, though in Kostya's native tongue. "You must be my dear comrade Konstantin."
"Hm. Well. Since you asked so nicely..." There remained an awkward ten or twenty more seconds he continued to type before lightly pushing the keyboard aside. The screen had gone dark with a gold tree branching through the middle of it, one of many screensavers in the life labs. He gave a small flourish of one hand toward the door. "After you."

Kostya coolly regarded Lucky's work and immediately disregarded its contents. It appeared unimportant; much like Lucky did. Green hair, green eyes, an intricate coat that showed a hubris Kostya did not, in fact, quite appreciate.
Perhaps he was being unfair. He exhaled slowly at the Life hunter's mocking breath, his teeth grinding. He repeated to himself that he was a patient individual, and that being unkind to another was not the way to anyone's good graces. Kostya had observed that Mimsy, in fact, knew Lucky, and displeasing her was not high on his list of schedule tasks, fitting nicely between 'never' and 'not ever'.
"I believe it may be the last time you hear anything from me spoken kindly."
They reached the training field, and the fogged air swirled around them. There would be no sun, today, and that meant it was, at least in appearances, more familiar to them both. He stood facing away from Lucky, to hopefully give the appearance of being an open target. He left his back wide open.
Clutching Syntax's totem tightly in one hand, Konstantin tilted his head in faux-relaxation, while at once summoning his weapon. He flexed his hand within the hard plastic of Syntax's barrel. His lips pulled back as he turned on his heel, firing a shot of energy off in Lucky's direction with a cruel glint in his eyes. It wasn't a smile on his face, because that would imply happiness.
Kostya was merely baring his teeth. Like an animal.hp// 40 dmg// 9-6=3 fear// 1/3 charges, 0/2 consumed

That Lucky's first action was to try to dodge out of the way of lasers instead of attack probably came as no surprise to anyone, least of all Lucky's own weapon. The fight or flight response in his brain was still permanently locked in 'flight', and no amount of wishful thinking, traumatic combat exposure, and even seeing Death himself seemed to change that.
"The hell??" There'd been no warning, just shots fired from a weapon Lucky had not even been remotely close to guessing right.
Song was quicker than Lucky to take charge. The small totem unfolded outward in an instant, horn handle in hand, summoning herself to his defense. Not that she was particularly worried. Kostya was never a friend in the first place, and therefore, it was that much easier to begin painting a picture of paranoid delusion. Every stroke counted.
< Hm. You trusted him to fight fairly? > Song mused aloud in his head, almost a rhetorical question.
He swung the sawblade instinctively as soon as the weight of it began to drag his arm down. It accomplished nothing - Kostya was just out of range.

Kostya merely nodded his approval as Syntax's shot connected.
"My name," he said, a stillness in his voice belying the underlying irritation, "Is Konstantin."
Syntax chirped happily at the influx of Fear, bouncing around and displaying bright static behind Kostya's eyelids. "I am not your comrade. I am not a caricature to be painted upon a canvas of your indiscretion."
Two steps backwards, and a pitched whine of energy crackling was Lucky's only warning that another shot was incoming. He was often glad that his weapon was long-ranged. As much as Syntax and he disagreed over the need for physical contact, what sort of action to take during a social interaction, or what book to read, they at least were in sync in combat.
He took a hands off approach, after all.
"We are allies by the merits of sheer logical conclusions that numbers equal power against a darker force, not out of any kindness in our hearts."
