It was too quiet for AJ. That wasn't too say it was quiet in the area, no. The sprawling savannah was full of life. Bird calls filled the air, the dull buzz of prey activity from a watering hole in the distance acting as ever-present background noise. It wasn't really quiet at all. But to AJ, it was almost silent. He was used to hearing conversations around him, being a part of them. He wanted people to talk to, to laugh with. Back in his old home, he had been quite the social butterfly. He would even talk with his patients as he treated them. Not being able to hold a conversation with another intelligent being was driving him crazy. It was the hardest part of being out on his own. AJ was sure that he was on the brink of starting to talk to himself. Then no one would want to even approach him. The large male sighed, cracking the leg bone of the zebra foal he had caught. AJ was quite surprised he had caught it at all, really. He had never been much of a hunter. No, he was used having other lions do his hunting for him. That was probably the second hardest part of his new rogue life. AJ had been trying to teach himself how to hunt, but it honestly wasn't going that well. This was the first meal he had in a very long time that didn't consist of snake or carrion. The poor thing must have been very weak. There wasn't much meat on the dead zebra, but AJ would give the whole thing away just to have someone to share it with.

The day had been completely fruitless for the young grey leopardess. She wasn't a stranger to hunting but her performance out in the hot of Africa had failed to produce something worth eating. Some times life dealt a hand that you were to just deal with. Today, for Kekipi, that hand was a fruitless hunt. And the day before that , the same. She was hungry and pretty ready to resort to scavenging. So when the scent of something dead and meaty caught her attention the leopardess followed. Through brush and through branches, she followed faithfully not caring if she was to over come certain obstacles in her path. Her stride was quick and snake like in grace as she followed. That was until a lion came in to view. The leopardess stopped in her tracks and peered at the creature from afar. Distance was good. She could wait for him to finish his meal and then fight the buzzards for the rest. Kekipi licked her chops and waited in the distance.

AJ looked up from his meal and scowled. Disgusted free-loaders. Couldn't he at least have his space while finishing his meal? Trust no-good buzzards to hover even before a predator was finished eating. AJ flexed his muscles and sprang, roaring fiercely at the buzzards. The flock scattered, squawking in fright as they took to the air. The chuckled under his breath. He was big for a lion, which sometimes intimidated others. Certainly worked with birds it seemed. But wasn't as if he would've actually hurt them. AJ didn't take too well to violence. He would only kill if it was for food, and even the best method was the fastest method. However, there was no way the birds could know that. AJ turned, ready to sit back down to finish meal. But a flash of pale grey in his peripheral vision drew his attention. The male turned, his head cocked to the side questioningly. There was someone off in the distance! The male perked up happily. Perhaps they'd be interested in joining him! There wasn't much meat left, but AJ had pretty much eaten his fill at this point. "Hey!" The male called out. "Come over here!" AJ sat down, waiting for the stranger's approach. He winced when a sudden thought struck him. He hoped he hadn't scared the stranger with his roar.

A roar from the big lion surprised the leopardess. She almost took off running too. Usually, predators weren't always so willing to let their kills be staked out by others and Kekipi could sympathize with that. She was one to chase off buzzards who lurked around too soon and in some cases some other quad predators. But it didn't seem she had been noticed for the moment. That was until the lion turned around. Kekipis ears lowered a bit unsure if she was to meet the same fate the buzzards had by being chased off from the meal. Instead, the lion invited her over closer. Why? The leopardess wasn't sure. Curiosity was said to kill the cat and Kekipi's own curiosity had her cautiously making her way towards this lion. Her tail was tucked under her legs and her ears submissively had flattened on top her skull. She nervously took a few strides before stopping in to full view. "I-is there something I can help you with?" She was ready to run in case this lion ended up being a wacko that liked to play twisted games. The leopardess was cautious.

AJ stopped himself from frowning in order to keep a more pleasant and friendly expression on his face. He had definitely frightened the (now that the stranger was closer, AJ was able to ascertain the species and gender of his hopefully-to-be guest) girl when he had sent the buzzards scattering. Oops. Poor thing looked as if she expected AJ to turn her into his next meal. Speaking of meals, the leopard looked as if she needed a good one. After looking at himself in numerous streams and ponds, the lion was quite familiar with what hungry-to-the-point-of-desperation looked like. The large male gave the female a smile. "Why, uh, yes, actually! I could use some help finishing off that zebra. You know, so the buzzards don't get at it." AJ chuckled softly. "As you can tell, I'm not the most fond of them! Eheh..." Trailing off, he shuffled his paws a little awkwardly before continuing. It had been a while since he had chatted with anyone. AJ seemed to be quite out of practice. "So, uh, come! Sit down, eat a little. I couldn't possibly finish it off, and it'd be a shame to let it go to waste under the sun!" It really would. AJ's mother had taught him better than to waste food. Never take more than your stomach can hold, she'd say. But it was easier to follow that mantra when your food was being taken from a kill pile rather than having to hunt for yourself. Plus the buzzards could find some other rotting carcass to scavenge off of.

"To be fair I don't know many that are found of them," Kekipi gave the male a gentle smile. He seemed genuine in wanting to share the meal with her which made the leopardess a little more cautious at first only to relax after she really thought about the situation. It was nicer to eat with some one than wait for them to finish and pick at the scraps. She hesitated no longer and strode up to the male and the carcass diving her muzzle in. The leopardess had gone hungry for a few days so the meal was a very welcome thing. After a few bites the leopardess remembered that she needed to breath between said bites and that manners were always a plus. So she lifted her head and gazed at the generous male lion. "Thank you very much for sharing. I didn't mean to just .. Well go at it like that but its just nice to taste meat." She licked some of the sticky gore off her maw. Being a neat eater after not eating for a while was a very difficult task. "My names Kekipi." He had shared food with her so it was only polite to share her name. Being nameless strangers didn't appeal to the leopardess.

The lion couldn't help the wide grin that broke out on his face as the leopard began tearing at the zebra. AJ shifted so that he was laying down instead of sitting up. He reached out a large white paw and nabbed the leg bone he had been gnawing on. It would look weird if she was the only one doing any eating. Plus it had been a long time since AJ had been able to enjoy some decent bone marrow. He waited patiently for his new friend to finish swallowing before striking up conversation. "I know what you mean. I've been eating snake for the past few weeks. Terribly bland, and the bones are so small you can't even eat around them!" The lion chuckled a bit, remembering the first time he had tried to eat a snake. "The bones can cut up your mouth really bad if you're not careful." Kekipi. It definitely suited her. It was nice to see her perking up a little bit, not being so scared of him. Sometimes he really did hate his size. "I'm AJ. What's got you in this area? Just wandering around?" It was certainly what he was doing. AJ would gladly head in the direction of...anywhere, if he knew where anything was. But his old pride had not been so kind to the idea of outsiders and other prides. The lion knew virtually nothing of these surrounding lands.

Kekipi was helping her self to another mouthful of delicious meats as she listened to the lion talk about eating snake. That didn't sound pleasant at all with bones stabbing in to ones gums and what not. She would have grimaced but her mouth was too full to make any sort of expression thankfully. Though everyone probably had been at one time in the position they'd eat just about anything even if it was to resort scavenging like she had for the day. The leopardess swallowed. "I suppose the same," Kekipi confessed. "I don't have any where to be just needs to meet. Like eating. I suppose you could say I am looking of a herd to follow," There really wasn't any exciting tale she could weave. Only the boring truth which disappointed Kekipi. She'd like to imagine she was exciting ,but hearing exactly what it was that she was doing, her life sounded quite dull. Maybe a story would be better. After a few moments she decided that, yes, a story would be far better than that boring drip. "Actually," The leopardess began, " I'm on the run. I wandered in to a rhinos grounds and accidentally offended one of the brutes with my presence. They claimed I was after their young but I was simply passing through," She frowned, "So for the past two days I've been trying to get them off my tail. I think its worked." Satisfied, the leopardess took another bite. "So what exactly is it that you're wandering about doing? Are you searching for something?"

Alpaca Chobi So I'm thinking AJ (or Kekipi) can suggest they stick together for a while, and then the cubs come along, yadda yadda yadda, and then I guess they decide to split after they grow up because they want different things in life. Sound good? Or any other ideas? AJ's eyes widened. Chased by rhinos? Quite a story indeed. He could relate a little, being accused of something you didn't do. It was a bad situation, being wrongly blamed. AJ was glad that Kekipi had managed to escape any undeserved consequences. "Well, it's a good thing you managed to get away. That could have been a sticky situation." AJ didn't know much about rhinos, but he that they were large and protective. Herd animals were fierce when they were threatened. Speaking of herd animals..."I'm looking for herd to follow as well. Or, a pride, rather." AJ sighed, reminded of his old home. All he wanted to do was find somewhere he could settle down, start anew. "It's been awfully lonely since I set out on my own. I miss always having the company of others, you know?" The lion smiled wistfully. "But I don't know much about these lands, and I've kind of been wandering about aimlessly." AJ admitted with a sheepish shrug.

The Captain Britain That sounds fine by me : D The leopardess puffed her chest out quite proud of her fiction self. "Yes indeed~" She took another bite of the meat, savoring it for a while. She paused between chewing to listen to the male for a moment and then swallowed. "Lonely? Well I'm on my on. You're on your own. Why don't we team up? I mean between two sets of claws and teeth getting a meal is a lot easier." She had no shame asking this of him. "Unless you're only in to hanging with lions or something. No offense taken if thats the case. I've met plenty of leopards that prefer to stick to their own kind."

Alpaca Chobi Whoop! AJ is almost RP ready, btw. I just need to crank out two SRPs (which I'm prolly going to get done today or tomorrow latest) for him and he'll be ready to go. AJ titled his head to the side. Teaming up, eh? It would make hunting a lot easier. Plus, it would also mean constant companionship, which the male was desperately craving. It would be nice to have a friend. Of course, AJ didn't really know how to tell Kekipi that prior to coming out into the roguelands, the only non-lion species he had been around for extended periods of time were his old pride's slaves, so he decided not to mention it all together. He had no problem with other species, and that was that. "That sounds like a fine idea, Miss Kekipi. I'm looking forward to our partnership." He said with a smile. Perhaps rogue life wasn't so bad after all. It seemed as if for the first time in a very long time, things were starting to look up.

(( That sounds fine to me. This was Kekipi's first rp so it might take me a little while to get her to full power. She was a blank slate prior to this x DD))

Alpaca Chobi That's fine! I have plenty of other SoA she can RP with as well, if you need it. However, I'll be off camping until next Tuesday, so I wouldn't be able to do anything until then. Just shoot me a PM or quote in the main thread, my plot thread, wherever. xD I'm gonna go ahead and call this thing finished then!
