"Make it quick, I've got a meeting in -- what the hell do you mean by that?!" Aria snapped into her phone as she slammed her hand on her desk, shouting the last words. She shoved herself away from her desk as she began to pace, walking back and forth within the confines of her office. The cellphone she was speaking on was held away from her ear as the person on the other side began to yell, the words near indistinguishable as the tiny phone failed to amplify the words properly. The division leader stopped as she took a deep breath and held it. Then she turned and threw the phone at the wall, the small device smashing into several pieces. Aria's hands shook as she approached the device and began to stomp on it, stopping at the end to kick the wall for good measure too. She didn't care who heard her, or seemed to notice that her office door was wide open or that hunters who peeked in quickly made a fast retreat before she turned her anger onto them. With the action complete, Aria stomped over to her desk and dropped into her chair, burying her face into her hands.

Candace had simply been passing by when she heard the yelling, it was faint at first but she was sure she knew the voice. Aria? Quietly she moved further down the hall until she could peek around the corner, and it was then she noticed a few other Mists even a Life peeking through the door. There was the sound of something breaking and they scattered like roaches, hurrying off in all different directions and offering each other casual excuses as to where they were going and why they had been in the hall. She heard a slam and actually jumped.
Something was happening.
Watching the others hurry away, Candace frowned and continued down the hall toward Aria's office. She peeked in, finding Aria at her desk and looking almost defeated. Uh oh. Candace cleared her throat. "Afternoon, ma'am." She stepped in almost cautiously, her hands behind her back. If Aria turned her anger on her Candace would take it; she had let Clarice use her as a punching bag as a trainee, she withstood a few Caelius tantrums, and she'd made it through pretty much all of their missions almost unscathed...she would take an upset leader's rage if she had to.
"Forgive me for the stupid question, but is everything all right? She knew it was an obvious no.

Upon hearing her name, Aria raised her head just enough to glare at Candace through her fingers. The division leader held the glare before dropping it, placing her hands on her desk and sitting up straight. "Good afternoon, Candace. I take it you... overheard me."
The division leader doesn't hide the side-long glance to where her phone rested in several pieces. Nor did she hide the visible scowl. "I don't like losing anyone on the field," she said briskly. "A lot of time and effort goes into training, and to have little shits from another division write someone off as dead without bothering to look for ******** proof is something I greatly disagree with."

She didn't so much as flinch under Aria's glare, she simply waited for Aria to settle down. "I happened to be passing by." Candace would even mention the other Hunters who had been looking into the office as well. Instead she followed Aria's gaze to the shattered cell phone. "Phones can be replaced," she reminded her gently, giving her leader a small smile until Aria mentioned losing someone on the field.
Oh.
Candace frowned. "What happened?" From the sounds of it, it sounded like someone had gone missing and was just being written off as dead instead of searched for, but around here it could literally be anything.

Aria threw her hands up in the air and gave an irritated sigh. "That's just it! Nobody ******** knows and all they want to do is pass the goddamn blame onto someone else! If the ******** a*****e was in my division you can be sure that my heel will be lodged up their goddamn a** as I kicked them the ******** out but no." Aria slammed her fists onto the desk, frustrated. "The area's too volatile to send a ******** search party in. Hunter remains aren't a priority. Since the goddamn labs can ******** convert weapons now, recovering old ones isn't a priority anymore so long as the goddamn hunters make it back here in one ******** piece so they can go ******** their ******** and just -- goddamnit!"
Aria stood up quickly, ignoring her chair as it tipped back. She began to pace back and forth again, her motions quick and rigid. "Goddamnit I knew I shouldn't have ******** sent --" Aria lashed out, kicking the wall again in frustration.

Oh, that was it. Candace made a light tsking sound at Aria's threat at some poor Hunter. "Someone so lazy and stupid isn't worth ruining your nice shoes over," Candace scolded her lightly, just barely flinching as Aria slammed her fists on the desk. She'd never seen her this angry before. She since wince at the bit about ******** though. Harsh. She'd give it to her since she was angry, but ouch.
"Sent..?" There was a feeling of dread building up in the pit of her stomach. If Aria was this angry about losing a Mist hunter...was it..? No, it couldn't be him. It just had to be regular frustration.

"What the ******** else am I supposed to do then?!" Aria snapped, voice raised. "Take them out like Caelius? Be subtle about it and pull strings like H? Give them kitchen duty like Edith? I'm not Allan; I'm not going to ******** forgive them for being a straight-up a*****e."
"And yes, sent. Because a goddamn Division Leader has to send out people on goddamn missions instead of taking care of things her goddamn self to the point where, upon a critical <********> like today? The only thing said goddamn Division Leader can do is throw a ******** tantrum and -- just -- Augh!" Aria snatched Symphony from her side and slammed the weapon into the wall, leaning against the knife as it sunk into the wall.
She stood there, her knuckles turning white from the pressure she was exerting on it. "I ******** hate being a leader sometimes."

"H's style sounds fun~" she encouraged cheerfully, trying not to let herself look bothered by Aria's tantrum. She didn't like seeing her leader like this, it worried her. What happened? Where had this happened? Who had this happened to?
Being a leader sounded like a skip through a flowery meadow in the middle of a forest with happy forest creatures on a bright happy sunny day. Yup. Sure did. Candace wasn't envious but she was certainly sympathetic. She winced as Aria took her weapon's totem and stabbed it into the wall. Ouch.
Candace moved further into the room to open the window, letting fresh air in. She then rooted around through Aria's desk until she found the packet of cigarettes. She opened it and gave it a little shake so a couple of them stuck out, a peace offering should Aria want one. She could reject it, and if she did Candace would just set them aside. "I..I know this isn't something people like to hear but...try to relax? Getting angry and breaking things isn't going to get anything done. Who did you send? Where? Surely there's something that can be done to go and find them." Please, Aria. Just let her help. She was capable, she was strong, she could do it.

The compliment for the Life Division leader earned Candace a dirty look from Aria. It was a long look that she held for nearly a half minute before she continued on her tirade.
When a cigarette was offered, Aria contemplated one. She began to wave one off, holding her hand up in mid-motion before taking it. While holding it Aria began to tug at Symphony, pulling her free from the wall and gently sheathing her.
"If you are offering to go look," Aria began slowly, "There is no need. You would be chewed up and spat back out before you could summon your weapon. The less you know about the place and the details, the less likely you will be to go out and play the ******** hero. You don't need to prove yourself. I need you here fulfilling your duties as a Hunter, not going off to get yourself killed."
Symphony was fetched from her sheathed and summoned. Held in a single hand the weapon began to tremble. The flamethrower was lowered as Aria sighed, transporting the cigarette to her lips in order to hold Symphony with two hands.

Candace set the pack down after Aria finally decided on taking a cigarette, sitting on the edge of her desk. She smartly ignored the dirty look she had been given.
She held up her hands in surrender when told not to go looking and not to be a hero. Okay, okay. Got it. "Understood. I won't go looking. And yes, I'm already getting to know the new trainees so I can decide how best to train them. They're interesting~. But if there's any other way I can help you, just tell me. I'm pretty good at multitasking."
Yes, I've never seen anyone juggle men and work like you can.
Candace scowled down at her rings.
"So that's it? The Hunter is Schrodinger's cat?" And no one would go looking for them? Candace hoped that was never her fate.

FWOOSH! The force of the fire that suddenly sprouted from Aria's weapon was enough to create a small breeze. When Aria turned around, the weapon was returned to her totem form and sheathed. Aria took a long drag as she leaned against the wall. The smoke was all but spat out. "Thank you for the offer, but I need you here to train them. I have a feeling that something big is going down soon, so you better hope that for their sakes they're listening. They're going to need all the help they can get." "As far as the hunter is concerned," Aria said after a pause, scowling. "For now? Unfortunately yes. I have to place faith in that they know what they're doing. They better make it out alive; I'd rather not lose her, as annoying as she can be sometimes."

The sudden flame had Candace making the most disapproving face. This was why she wanted to buy Aria a lighter, she still had plans for it, a nice one just for Aria. Whether she liked it or not. Something big? Oh, they'd had such a nice long period of calm...guess all good things had to come to an end eventually. Candace nodded, sitting on the edge of Aria's desk. She'd give them all the help she could, the Mists were her priority, she may have been fairly biased toward them. "Then we'll hold out hope she's okay..." Candace said with a small smile, drumming her fingers on the edge of the desk. "Feeling any better?"

"Hell no." Aria faced Candace, removing the cigarette from her lips to jab it at her. "There's a lot riding on this particular mission, far, far more than then the petty s**t that usually goes on around here." It seemed as though she was about to launch into another tirade, stopping to give Candace a level look. "Kindly get off my desk. Now."

Candace hopped off the desk as ordered without even a moment's hesitation or any kind of protest. It had been an order, she wasn't going to fight it. So that was it? Should she leave? "Oh, when you first asked me to consider being a trainer..you said you had things you wanted done." Candace never did ask what these tasks were. "Do you happen to remember what any fo those things were? Or if I can still get them taken care of?"

The division leader forced herself to take a hit on her cigarette before answering. "Get them organized. Run them through the different training segments, get them paired up with other trainees from different divisions. Mists are expected to be able to fill in any role, and the sooner they get exposed to what the other divisions do the sooner they can figure out where their skills best apply and focus on those." "Also, if any trainee has a lockpick set confiscate it." Aria frowned, clenching her cigarette. "Trainees are supposed to earn them. Lock them up. Make them do something to prove that they can handle them. And if a trainee doesn't have a basic set, make them earn one." The division leader walked over to her desk and moved papers around, uncovering an ashtray. "Also? By the next time we meet you better report three trainee successes on the training courses. You're dismissed." Eight RP CHALLENGE!As Candace is a mentor, she'll need to achieve three trainee successes on a training course. These can be three different courses, or one training course with a group of three. All need to pass.
