Catgirl My name is: Violet Elizabeth Hoffman My Alias is Catgirl I have this many candles on the cake 19 I am on the side of: Neutral I have these quirks: Violet is very cunning. She is calculating and manipulative, and also very perceptive. Often she can know people just by looking at the way they move or talk. Violet often distracts her enemies by getting into their head while she calculates her escape. Emotionally, Violet is generally happy, though snarky at times. She is very playful and caring, but can be cold and emotionless when the time calls for it. We cant all have sad stories now can we? Violet was born to a very poor immigrant couple in Gotham City. Her German parents barely spoke a word of english, which made finding a job even more difficult for her father. Desperate to feed his new daughter and starving wife, he turned to the gangs for income. Before long, the family had been accepted under the protection of street-murderers and drug dealers who claimed to own the area. In return for their protection, Violet's father would carry out whatever the gang leaders willed. He always said that their situation was too good to be true. One night, his actual purpose in the gang's ranks was revealed, and it would change Violet's life forever.
Violet had just finished blowing out the six candles on the frosted pink cake before her when the loud pounding at the apartment door made her jump. Before her parents could rush her to safety, the door between a crowd of screaming men and her family was reduced to splintered wood on the floor. They were taken to a yacht owned by whoever it was that had been funding her livelihood for as long as she could remember. The men who had stolen them from their home accused her father of stealing money from the gang. Before he could even defend the actions he hadn't even carried out, he and his wife were executed and tossed into the harbor. Too soft to shoot a child, the leader tossed Violet, bound and gagged, over the edge to drown. As she struggled to free herself, Violet could feel the cold arms of her dead parents bumping into her and weighing her down. With her last breath, something within her changed. She snapped the rope binding her and tore the gag from her mouth, coughing up water and choking for air. She managed to swim to shore, when she was greeted by the person who would raise her. Selina Kyle.
Selina took Violet in and helped her find a place to go to school. Eventually, Selina began to see the same sort of super-human abilities that were evident in herself. Violet had already shown great promise in acrobatics and martial arts, however, Selina decided to train Violet to be a thief of the future. She began outfitting Violet with the best technology that could be stolen, and Violet blossomed into a better apprentice than Catwoman could have ever hoped for. By fifteen, Violet had already pulled off her first solo-heist. On her eighteenth birthday, Selina sent Catgirl away to find the men who took her family, and to step out of the cat-burglar's shadow to become her own person. The sun was going down now, casting an orange tint over the entire sky. She stared off into the horizon quietly, enjoying the warm breeze before night brought peace and cool breezes to the city. She looked to her left, to an apartment building much taller than her own. There stood a blonde man who looked to be about her age, staring at her through his window. She gave a soft smile and waved slightly with one hand, which made him instantly aware that she had noticed him. He looked startled, and moved his hand to let the curtain fall over his window, blocking his face. Violet let her hand linger outstretched for a second, her smirk falling slightly, when a vibration in her other hand brought her out of her thoughts. She looked down at the silver device she had been clutching in her other hand. All the display showed was an exclamation mark, indicating that someone had tried to contact her central computer. She gave the window one last glance, catching the young man peering barely through the curtain. She smiled back at him and shook her head as she turned away, walking to the stairs which lead down to her floor. "Scaredy cat."
Violet quickly descended to her floor, entered the hall, and returned to her apartment. The place was very dimly lit, which she didn't mind. She kept the place dark to prevent intruders from being able to go through her things. She walked past the bed room into the back of her apartment, into a room which housed a huge screen and computer terminal from which she communicated with people as her feline alias. She sat down in the chair and began playing the transmission.
"Got a new contract for ya'. You did great work for us last time, so if you do good by us again, boss says he'll pay ya' double. There's a safe in the basement of the building at these coordinates. You know the drill, lady. Crack it, nab it, cough it up. You know where to find us when you have the package."
The transmission ended, and as it did, Violet pulled up the attached coordinates. She surveyed the map, and as she did, began to shake her head. What do these idiots want with the city museum's safe contents? Hope it's not books. These boys don't sound too bright. Violet glanced to her right and looked at her suit in it's glass case. She stood, cracked her neck by turning her head to either side, and walked toward her gear. Whatever it is, these dim bulbs want it awfully badly. This whole thing feels...weird. Violet glanced at the Teen Titans communicator in her case. Nightwing had given it to her some time ago, when he offered her an honorary spot on the titans. Maybe I should call in back-- what am I saying? The Titans?! I'll be fine. She dawned her suit, then boots, gloves, and finally her black spandex cap. Taking a deep breath, Violet pulled her goggles over her eyes, and began to boot her internal computer systems up. The display on her goggles lit up and began uploading the coordinates she had been given. Her ear pieces became functional, and with that, she was ready for action.
Catgirl opened her only window, stalked out onto the fire escape, and took a quick look around. Ready to depart, she touched the buckle of her belt, deploying the diamond-coated climbing spikes from the toes of her boots. She leapt from the fire escape toward the building opposite her, digging her toe into the side of the coarse brick. Still falling, her spike left a long dig mark in the building as she plummeted toward the ground. Finally, she dug in and vaulted off, only about ten feet from the ground. Gracefully, she backflipped and landed neatly on her feet, retracting the climbing gear before she even touched the ground. She turned for the museum, but something caught her ear. The sound of someone screaming for help in the alley behind her. She turned quickly to see three thugs in black vests beating the pulp out of a man on the ground. Now, now, boys. This isn't how you play nice, is it?
Catgirl approached the four cautiously, keeping as silent as she could. She was about six feet from the closest one when she struck a seductive pose, flashed her brilliantly white smile through her dark red lips, and began her monologue. "Dont you boys ever get tired of stealing milk money?" The three thugs were startled by her voice, and all three jumped to face her, none of them daring to move. "I mean, sure. Fish gotta swim, cat's gotta eat, right? But really, how many idiots does it take to mug one nice young man?" The brute closest to her let out a battle cry, lowered his head, and began to charge at Violet. She remained poised, and when he was close enough, she struck. In an instant, her hand was behind the head of her assailant. She lifted her knee, meeting his forehead with a loud thud. Her attacker's limp body fell in front of her, only mustering a weak groan as he lost consciousness. "Oh, my! Do be careful, tenderfoot. The city keeps these alley ways in such disarray. We wouldn't anyone to lose their footing, would we?" The two remaining goons advanced toward Violet cautiously, preparing to tackle her. Violet drew her whip, giving it a loud crack to send the thugs back a few steps. "Y'know, if I were you, I'd think about gettin' my tail outta' town before I got what was comin' to me." One of the men opposing her drew a pistol, but before he could even get his finger on the trigger, Violet was on the offensive. She twirled her wrist and lunged forward, ensnaring the firearm in her whip and giving it a firm tug, sending the gun flying behind her and into the dark alley. AS his weapon was torn from his hand, the gangster gave out a loud shriek and took off down the ally and toward the street. His companion watched his ally sprinting away from him, and turned back to Violet a second too late to save himself. With a loud crunch, Violet's punch connected with the gang member's face, sending his unconscious body to the ground next to his fallen comrade.
Violet holstered her whip and approached the man who had been the goons' victim. He whimpered in pain as she approached, his arms raised defensively, cowering away from her. "It's alright, kitten. I'm not going to play quite as roughly as the boys you've been hanging around with. Maybe next time you'll know better than to borrow money from criminals, hmm?" She extended her hand to him, and after a few seconds he took it. She hoisted him up to his feet and flashed her almost glow-in-the-dark smile at him. "It's been fun, kitten. Gotta scram." Violet stalked down the alley and turned the corner. The man chased after and followed, trying to see more of the mysterious cat-burglar who had just been his savior.
"Wait! Come back! I--"
As the man tuned the corner, he was speechless to see that the alley way was empty. Catgirl was gone.
