Evan had a point. Heck, defending was what she had done more of in the beginning anyway, like in that foggy place and helping Jake out to the base and . . . yeah. Much more effective than attacking sometimes for her, as much as Thane disliked being put on the defensive. He didn't understand the concept of a fleshy body being in more danger than one that was mostly bone and probably never would, like Candace had said.
Stormy, however, was almost painfully aware when she eyed how large Tuck's weapon was. Jesus, they were just big weapon trio weren't they! She gave a low whistle as she tugged the ribbon off her leg and began to tie her hair back, a niggling thought trying to rise from her mind but failing to fully form upon first glance. "Okay, that's smart. Right. Alternating. I can do that," she chirped, bouncing in place before summoning her own greatsword which, against her noodly arms and thing frame, seemed to look even larger than it already did.
< < They have been treating you like a mewling hatchling. Now is the time to prove them wrong. > >
Tuck said no breaking shields, okay. Can we try for that?
Thane made a derisive sound. < < Can you wield me properly at all after that pitiful display? Your tears have made you weak. Fight as if you mean to harm, for neither of us can suffer another moment of weakness like that--or you will die come next battle. > >
Sand and bones and a scraping and cracking she didn't know bodies could make, and her screaming in her head as the heat seared her--
Stormy swallowed hard and put up a shaky smile. "Ready."

"I'm ready too, an' like I just said - we stop before anyone gets real hurt. So long as we all agree on that, I'm down."
Tuck gave Stormy an encouraging smile, big and dimpled, before turning his attention to Evan. The Sun was given a pained look, one that spoke mountains about how much he really wasn't looking forward to doing this.
It was crucial, and Tuck knew it, it's just that.. it was Stormy, and Tuck didn't like the thought of her getting hurt.
At all.

As badass as Stormy's sword looked, Evan couldn't help but be reminded of a puppy dragging around a too-large toy every time he saw her wield it. It was cute, and funny, but also a little sad. Evan was determined to help her learn how to use it.
"You're gonna have to move quick, now," he reminded her. "There's no telling what'll happen in the field, so you have to be ready for anything." All words he had heard in a different life, said under different circumstances. The reasons for them were similar enough, though; they still applied.
He nodded curtly at Tuck. It wouldn't be easy, trying to train with Stormy and always holding back, but it was for her own good. They couldn't keep her safe forever, but they could prepare her for the inevitable battles to come.

"Right. Nobody gets hurt, because ohana." I hope.
Thane was unwieldy in certain distances, so it was a good thing she could go against another sword-user. "Quick" was Evan's operative word, so Stormy tried to move from bouncing in place as quick as she could to move before Tuck first, the greatsword at an angle to try and cover up as much of the tall hunter as she could. She remembered how hard the sun hunter had hit last fight and tried to brace herself for what would be coming.

O-what-now? Evan gave Stormy a puzzled look before shaking it off and trying to convince himself to attack. He didn't want Stormy--or, hell, anyone he counted as a friend--between himself and the teeth of his blade. It was just as difficult to attack now as it had been the first time he'd met Stormy on the training fields, even though she wasn't even the intended target. With a deep breath, he lunged forward. "Good job," he said with an approving smile, pleased as his sword met hers and slid off harmlessly.

Tuck grinned down at Stormy when all was said and done, squeezing her shoulder with a big hand before he went to defend Evan. This was great practice for all of them, but mostly for Stormy. A chance to attack, a chance to defend... best of both worlds, and training that she would need as a Mist.
"You doin' great, Stormy."
Herryk came up, and Tuck took on a defensive stance, grinning encouragingly at the smaller Mist.

emotion_kirakira She might start melting from the praise, you guys. No, really.
Smiling brightly at them in return, she watched Tuck slide into place in front of Evan, gripped the handle of her weapon, and leaped at them again, letting the weight of the greatsword lead her forward as she swung it like a bat to try and knock the moon's ax away. Contrary to her girlish looks, she was more comfortable with the large thing than before; not the same training as either of them had received, but getting better.
The clang reverberated down her arms, but she caught a small and strange thrill nevertheless from cutting through Tuck's defense, something that wasn't even influenced from Thane's content noise at being fed Fear.
"I'm like a Furbie," she told them happily, and then affected a tweedy, nasily voice like the toy. "Feed me love and me grow strong~"

Evan shuddered more from the sound of Stormy's voice than the actual hit. "My little sister got one of those for Christmas one year. It scared her to tears, so we did everything we could to shut it up. We took the batteries out, dropped it off the roof, stuck it in the microwave...damn thing kept on talking." He shook his head at the memory, letting it linger for just a second before putting it away and focusing on the task at hand. "Nice swing, now back to defense."

Tuck's reaction to Stormy's voice was similar to Evan's.
"I had a girlfriend in high school that collected those damn things. She would set them up in a circle and they would all talk to themselves. Freaked me out. She'd just stand there n' laugh at 'em. Named 'em all, too."
He squinted at Stormy, readjusting his grip on Herryk's hilt.
"Part of the reason I dumped her was them Furby things." Tuck grinned. "A big part."

Ah, so they had horror stories too? Stormy wanted to share, but...if they reacted like this to just one sentence, how would some more affect them?
It might have been strange to see her wearing that impish look, but she couldn't help herself. She wanted to he a little silly with her brothers!
"May-maaaay. May-laaaaah. MAY-TAHHHH," she half cooed, half growled as she stomped around and lifted her greatsword, gesturing with her head for Evan to come at her. "Furby strong! Furby great!"
(If Evan doesn't break her defense, Tuck's welcome to try!)

Evan made a horrified face at Tuck's story. Living with one of those damned things had been bad enough, but to have to deal with a Furby enthusiast? "Sounds like you made the only possible decision," he said, nodding.
The sound of possessed, animatronic Furby speech had Evan grimacing at the youngest member of their little group. "Don't you start that," he warned, smacking at Stormy's sword with the flat of his own blade, "or we might have to drop Furby in the ocean a little."
He was only joking. Mostly.

"Oh my God, Stormy," Tuck choked out, shaking his head at the little Mist. She was so damned adorable that it hurt.
When Evan finished with his attack, Tuck slipped in between the Mist and the Sun to defend Evan - not that he needed it, but just because he wanted Stormy to move in for a good, solid hit.
"Come on, then, Furbybutt," Tuck grinned. "Hit Evan with your best shot."

Despite the fact that Evan's sword coming at her was still a bit scary, Stormy still managed to laugh at their reactions as he broke her defense with a clang. "Why nooooooot~?" she went on in the voice anyway. "It's funnnnn~"
But they wanted her best shot, did they? Considering the insistent nudges Thane was giving her, and the fact that Tuck looked solid, she supposed there was no harm in trying. Their shields were pretty much solid with all the defense going on anyway.
"Okay, okay, I'll try!" Stormy called to them in her regular voice, adjusting her grip on the greatsword as she mentally prepared herself for the recoil. With a flare of the purple gem she ran at them, the weapon held behind her until the last moment at which it was swung forward to cross against Tuck's ax and slid against it with a screech. The oily liquid Thane had condensed the collected energy into began to ignite with the friction, but rather than let Tuck get caught in the ensuing fire, Stormy had aimed it so that his ax got caught on the protruding spikes along one side of her weapon.
With a shove to get him out of range (and a short apologetic look, even though dang she needed that energy from Thane to get past Tuck), she kept the greatsword's momentum going up and over her shoulder to cleave at Evan's barrier with a fiery burst that caught them both in its range. She winced as she felt the familiar heat eat her shield, but it wasn't as bad as it used to be; now she was just nervous rather than outright afraid to try.
The weapon sagged in her hands as she caught her breath and backed away, sweaty but otherwise not so bad off. "You good, Herc?"

"I'll show you fun in a minute," Evan muttered, peering around Tuck as the bigger man stood between him and Stormy. He watched as she ran towards them, frowning as it seemed, at first, that the weapon was weighing her down.
He saw too late that she was merely building momentum for a bigger swing, and that sometime between the time she started her charge and right this second, her sword had goddamn caught on fire. "Holy sh--" was all he had time for as Tuck was shoved out of the way and the blade came crashing down on him. He staggered back, planting his own sword in the earth to keep his feet.
It hurt like hell, but even worse than the strike was being set on fire. He hissed and muttered curses as he patted frantically at his chest and shoulder, trying to put the flames out. While her charge had taken out a good chunk of his shield, it had done more damage to his shirt, which now bore smoldering holes. After checking to make sure that he was, in fact, no longer aflame, he raised his head to look at Stormy, both eyebrows raised in mild shock. "Damn, girl," he said, his tone full of pride and awe in equal parts.

Even though he was completely defending Evan, the force of Stormy's blow was enough to knock Tuck on his a**, and as he stared up at the sky he couldn't help but see stars. When her attack ignited Evan, Tuck snorted with laughter, but that laughter waned when he realized that she'd hurt herself in the process of attacking Evan.
"Whoa, whoa. You okay, Stormygirl?" He rolled to his feet. She looked like she was fine, and without waiting for an answer, Tuck defended himself.
"Can't let Evan have all the fun now can I? Come on, darlin'. Hit me with your best shot."
