Darren had seen the posters, flyers and pretty much every announcement for prom since they'd started putting them up. The sad fact of it was - he didn't even know what Prom WAS. It sounded like fun, a big party. He'd never really ever been to a party before. He was here at Amityville to grow as a person and he supposed the best way to go about that was to do... well... all the things.

Which was what lead the undead boil to stand in front of one of the flyers, leaning in to try and make out the words as best he could with his single eye. Lacking solid depth perception could make reading - an already almost impossible task for the uneducated boil- a nigh inconceivable task.

Crossing his arms a bit the boil let out a huff of air, completely drawn into the flyer as he tried to figure out exactly where and when this thing was going to go down and if there were any requirements for going. He'd hate to show up and not fit in.

Simply might have seen the posters, she might not have. She'd been too busy roaming the school to really have much to say about things. Perhaps the fact it didn't move on it's own made it less interesting, but the view of someone else looking with great interest drew her attention as she was strolling down the hall. Literally stopped her in her tracks as she squinted at him curiously. A few steps forward as she cocked her head to one side, then tried to stand on tippy-toe as tried to see what he was looking at.

A few more steps since, frankly, it was impossible to see over the guy properly. But she wanted to know. If it was interesting enough to read she wanted to know now too. Which was why, after a few more seconds of less than success Darren likely felt some hands on his back as the ghoul literally leaned over his back to try a and read the poster herself. "Dark Carnival, huh?" she timed, not the least bit concerned she was currently making something of a stand of the boil to see properly. She squinted a bit at it curiously, her tail swishing back and forth as she tried to figure out just what it meant.

"What's a prom anyway?" She leaned forward a bit, trying to peek at Darren's face at that point, rather curious. He knew since he was looking, right? "S'like a party?" Yep, leaning across someones back was normal. Actually she was beaming at him a bit excited at the idea of a party. They were always fun.

Someone was on his back - it was not his sister, she would not have been caught dead like that with him since they'd come to school - but it was a ghoul, and Darren was unsure how to handle the situation. Darren had been pretty much taught from day one that ghouls get to do what they want, and it was his job to ensure that they got what they wanted. With a slow nod, he didn't move, easy enough for the undead boil.

"Y-yeah, it's a big party, have to dress nice and such. I am going... Do you want to go?" Darren asked the ghoul, not realizing that his query could be construed as an invitation to join him. He was unused to dealing with ghouls that weren't family members.

He smiled at her, blinking his eye a little as he huffed out a bit of air. He oddly did not mind the fact that he was being used for furniture, but then - the ghoul was being nice to him and smiling and he really didn't want to hurt her feelings at all. He needed to make friends.

Raja
Table is dealing with it.

And she thought nothing of it. He was another student, it was perfectly normal to be friendly with him. Which was why, as she heard the explanation and question she merely beamed. "I always dress nice." In her mind anyway. "And the bigger the party the better!" Which meant of course, that the growing grin was probably a promising thing to his last question. Only a grumpy gills would turn down a request to go to a party. Honestly, they were crazy if they did. "Oh yes! I really would!" She then leaned down a bit closer, squinting back at the poster. "When is it even?" Because the big giant letters on the poster were apparently too hard to notice. Nope, she had another distraction, so they might as well have not existed.

She had someone to go to a party with, she should try to know when to go? Maybe.

Though something occurred to her, not that it was super important. She didn't know his name. That'd make finding him hard, so would- no wait she was pretty sure he was an undead. Check, right dorms known. They weren't that far away from her's. At leas not in her opinion. "Also I'm Simply." Hopefully he realized that was a name, and not well... he'd figure it out anyway. Her eye's darted back to him after her latest bit of information, obviously figuring he should know to reply by. Well just incase. "You?" And yes, at that point she was practically draped over his shoulder. Because he hadn't protested, and anything akin to a piggyback ride was amazing in her opinion.

Darren would need to learn to tell the ghoul know, or he'd probably learn his sister's demands weren't that bad.

Torvil
Yes she is happily going to lay there until she gets bored or you say something, Darren. Kind of like 'Hahaha bliss.'

Having not seen her attire before she climbed on him like furniture, Darren wasn't able to asses her initial statement, though knowing how most ghouls seemed to like to dress around Amityville, it wasn't much of a stretch to figure that she was being serious. "Soon I think..." He wasn't good with reading the text on the poster so he figured he'd let her figure that one out.

So she was Simply? He suppressed the chuckle that came from learning her name - because that would be rude. It wasn't her fault her parents had named her oddly. At least that was his assumption. He'd been named after his father - if only because his mother was odd like that.

"My name is Darren, Darren Vaughn." He'd of offered her a hand if she wasn't basically using him as a means of conveyance. He still wasn't about to toss her off his back or even mention that she was in his personal bubble. Mainly because he really didn't have much of one.

"I'm glad to find someone really excited about going - I'm a bit nervous myself. I'm new to the school and I haven't made a lot of friends yet..." He nervously laughed. "I'm a bit of a... homebody."

Raja
X3 He's probably not going to say anything - ever - at least its a good work out?

Simply's attire was close to acceptable for a party on most days, sadly it didn't get more formal than it was. Which had it's drawbacks as well. If she couldn't run around in it it was terrible and she hated it. Which was why her clothes usually suited her needs more than her appearance. Being cute was just a benefit that came with wearing certain things. A simple little bonus she liked to cash in on. Daily.

And honestly, she was used to hearing people laugh at her name. Then again, she has a twin named Wander. To anyone with half a brain left(even the more rotted out zombies got the joke) it was obvious her parents had a sense of humor. Sadly, they hadn't realized the curse that would come with the name. Thus, the ghoul was doomed to fit her name all too well for all time. Thankfully, she did bother to catch his name, musing a bit over it. "Soooo Darren. Gotcha." She stated slowly, trying to memorize it. If he was lucky she'd recall it started with a D. It wasn't a good idea to ask her how long it took her to remember her own name. Or ask how many siblings she said. She couldn't actually answer.

Though his next statement left her properly baffled as she cocked her head trying to look at him. "You're not excited? You should be. Nervous or not a party is a party." And everyone, new or not, was welcome at parties. At least that was her understanding. Nor did she got how being a homebody meant anything. Partially cause she hadn't the faintest what it was. "Doesn't mean you can't have fun?" Besides, if you wanted friends, parties were, like, the BEST place to look. Ever. "Walking the halls you can make friends, parties are even easier." Afterall, he'd just gotten one.

Point proven. She was a genius.

"That's the thing. I usually don't go to parties - usually because I'm not invited - this will be the first party I have gone to that wasn't thrown by or for a member of my family." He was looking forward to actually being able to enjoy a party for once instead of having to run around making sure everything went smoothly and that all the guests were happy and taken care of. He still had horrible flashbacks to his sister's debut.

NEVER AGAIN.

"But if you think this is a good way to make friends, who am I to argue?" He said with a slight shrug, trying to not knock her off his back. When she chose to hop down would be her decision, not his.

"What even do you do at a school party?" He wondered aloud. "I mean, there is probably going to be dancing and all that right?"

That was another thing that chilled Darren to the bone. The boil didn't know how to dance except slow, almost ponderous ballroom waltzing which he'd only learned because of his sister's debut.

He'd still managed to step on her foot too... He tried to not frown at the thought shaking his head. "What about you? What do you do for fun when you're not at a party?"

Not... invited? She blinked a bit at that, trying to figure out why anyone wouldn't be invited to a party. "Eh? What'd you do? trash the last one?" Honestly, unless someone ruined a party she couldn't imagine why they wouldn't be invited. "Just don't knock over the drink table this time." A firm nod was offered as she finally decided to sort of roll off his back onto her feet. It was hard to look at someone from that position.

"Parties are almost as good a way to make friends as school." She quickly stated, matter of fact, the ever evident smile on her face as he lifted a hand, a single finger extended as if everything she said was the most important wisdom he'd ever hear. "There are so many creeple and they all want to have fun and so making friends is easy. Besides everyone wants friends." All you had to do was talk to people and they'd end up your friends. "You stood int he hall and you made a friend, it's that easy." Regardless of if he liked it or not.

And then the question. She blinked a bit, then tilted her head. "Have fun. Duh!" Because that was an extremely specific answer. But honestly, people did a lot at parties as far as she knew. She'd been to a few.

And then he made a terrible mistake over inquiring what SHE did. Because she didn't do that explaining thing so well, rather, Simply tended to do. Actually, standing still this long was rare enough as it was. "Weeeeeell~ I go to class and explore and meet creeple and then we talk and go exploring some more and did you know that humans ride horses around with big metal sticks?" Actually that was fun, until they told her she couldn't try it. Everyone ELSE got all the fun there.

"No, no... My mum just didn't... want me at parties unless I was working. It's - kind of a long story," Darren tried to explain - but JACK this ghoul talked fast, and he was barely able to get a word in edgewise. Not that he minded, really - he was a better listener than a speaker anyway.

Nodding his head appropriately as she spoke, he made it a point to follow along with what she said. Till that last bit about making a friend in the hall. Wait... What?!

"You mean you want to be my friend?" He asked, brow over his good eye raising a little in shock. He really hadn't met anyone who'd out and out said they were his friend. He knew Siku definitely was not his friend. Rosy's friend sure - but not his.

The rest of her rambling was pretty much turned to white noise as his shocked brain tried to cope with the fact that someone actually wanted to be his friend.

Raja
Whoops, looks like she broke him!

Her face sort of twisted a bit at that statement, more confusion than anything. Perhaps a bit of displeasure was mixed in. Mostly because... "Why wouldn't your mommy want you there?" Yep, she was just trying to wrap her little head around the entire concept of not wanting him at the party. Long story or not. "S'never justified not to invite someone who wants to go." Even if they tried to hurt you, if they changed it was still good to invite them.

You could always kick their butt and send them packing if they turned out to be too much trouble. So with that she stamped a foot briefly and crossed her arms, obviously pouting a bit. "Your mommy needs to get priorities straight! Everyone needs fun!" Obviously this was a great problem, she'd have a talk with that woman sometime. But for now it seemed the conversation had shifted to her comment about friendship.

"Why not?" He seemed awfully surprised about this whole thing, seeing as how he was just standing there. Kind of like a fool. Weird. This guy was weird.

Not that that was bad.

"Hey... hey... you there?" It was after he hadn't reacted to much of her babbling that he'd likely snap back to the world to find her standing on tiptoe to learn up toward his face and wave a hand in front of his eyes. "Oy, I said I wanted to be your friend. The proper response is to say we were already friends. Do it right!" Obviously it was her job to teach this boil how to behave with friends.

Which wasn't a good thing for him really. "Got it now?"

"We're already friends?" This concept was completely foreign to Darren. He blinked a few times but nodded slowly. "Okay, we're friends." He said this with a small smile - it amused him that he had just made his first friend on his own - with no help of his sister or anything.

"So then Simply, what is it that one does with a new friend?" Again - this was all new to him - he was utterly lost. But he wasn't afraid to seek guidance from someone who was already in the know.

Even if they were probably not the best choice.

Raja
OMG sorry this took so long >.<

The boil was offered a few quick nods at the statement. "Exactly!" Both hands were placed on her hips as if she thought he might try to disagree. She'd caught that question in his tone after all. Though rather he just confirmed it which received a larger smile to make up for his own awkwardness. "No take backs." Apparently this had happened. Or she just made it up. It was probably in his best interest not to ask.

Though the next question was an odd one. What did you do? "Play, have fun, all the things." Specifying was not her strong point. Ever.

Darren had no interest in trying to discover the inner workings of Simply's mind. She had made a statement and he wasn't about to take it back. She was his first... REAL... official friend he'd made since arriving to Amityville.

"So then, friend, what shall we do and where shall we go?"

You know - cause he sucked at this sorta thing.

Raja
TRUE, BUT THAT IS OKAY!
PostPosted: Tue Aug 06, 2013 11:40 am

Mistakes, Darren had made so many mistakes. The biggest one being that he was asking where they were going. But he'd learn with time, or perhaps the fact that the smile on her face grew even larger as she leaned toward him, almost as if about to pass on some secret. Sadly, it wasn't exactly anything of the sort. Nope, she wanted adventures.

"Do you think we can get on the roof?" And by think she meant they would be finding a way. Soon.

Torvil
Darreeeeen never ask her what she wants to do. She could have said she wanted to find a way to the hunter island for all you know!

Darren stopped still for a moment and looked up at the roof, blinking for a moment with his eye he tilted his head to the side. "Well I suppose we could figure out some way to get up there - like if there is a ladder or some way to climb up..."

Turning his head to Simply he blinked again. Was she proposing that they climb up the roof?

He really hoped not. But if this is what she did for fun well...

Guess he'd learn what being a friend meant right? Even if it resulted in major injury?
