Helmut had been stalking it for a while. All over campus, really! It was a blue puff ball, and it looked delicious. Adorably delicious. Normally she insisted on chewing on potential foods right away, but today she had a little bit too much energy...which meant stalking. And batting. And play-biting. All before noms.
Her parents would smack her if they knew she was intending on playing with her food!
The little Wendigo, in all her fluffy natural form glory, suddenly sprung from the bushes she was hiding in, launching herself at her prey - which was really not much smaller than she was - with her palms out, trying to catch it.

Jove had the beginnings of a perfectly normal day, first a little spookie snack, some playtime for the foxfires, and then a good long walk. Except that was when it began to get a little weird. He had first noticed something in his peripheral vision as he wandered through campus, and then he caught sight of the fluffy thing.
It reminded him of the little scareling who had accompanied him on his mushroom hunt, but... fluffier? Was that it's natural form? Either way, there was something in it's expression that made him feel a little playful himself. The way it would follow him shamelessly really brought out his wisp-like nature. He didn't just want to run away, he wanted to lure it along.
So he trotted a bit faster as he headed into the woods, keeping an eye on how fast the creature kept pace. And then he would circle back to make sure it was still behind him...
And then he scrambled off again when it leapt out of the bushes, slipping through the little fingers before he could be well and truly caught.

Helmut, instead of just barely missing, seriously missed. The fluffly little wendigo - sans helmet, which had been lost in the initial pounce - took a facedive into the ground. It didn't take her long to bounce back and push herself up, shaking stray pieces of dirt and grass from her fluffy white fur. Seconds later and she was tearing after the little foxfire again, chittering happily all the way...and when she felt like she was close enough, she took another dive at the creature, once more just trying to catch it, not maim it.

Jove trotted onward, deeper into the forest. Occasionally he turned back, ears perked amidst the fluff, to make sure it was still on his tail... And then he trotted ahead once again. The unusual chittering behind him was a good indicator of how fast he had to go even when he didn't glance back.
When he did finally glance back again... There it was, leaping for him!
He didn't quite have enough time to scamper away from the second pounce, and found his fluffy tail caught in the little creature's grasp.

Helmut, upon hitting the ground for a second time, realized that she had something in her fluffy paws. Her happy chittering turned into proud purring, an odd noise that rumbled somewhere deep in her throat. She held onto the tail and wiggled her way closer, trying to pin the tail down with one paw while batting at him with the other, either trying to play or trying to get a much better grip on him.
Then she opened up her massive, stretchy mouth...and tried to nibble on the captured tail. She was hungry, and playing was playing but...snacks...

There had been the briefest moment of panic, a lingering remnant from his early life as a ghost, but it was quickly replaced by curiosity. He glanced over his shoulder, ears perked as he watched the creature wiggle closer. And then... he was batted on the head.
Jove let out an awkward bark of surprise as he was roughly pawed at, and had begun to think about squirming loose when he felt something on his tail. Glancing back to see it was suddenly in the creature's mouth, he realized it was definitely time to do something.
And then suddenly instead of a small and fluffy puppy, there was a small and fluffy boil sitting on the ground, giving the creature a very serious "plz don't put my tail in your mouth" expression.

She continued to chew lazily on the tail, but her gaze had long since shifted to stare at something in the distance. Not even the bark had caught her attention as she stared off into nothing, gumming way at the furry thing. Her eventual look back at her prey was well-timed though, and her chewing jaw stilled almost automatically, her dark eyes wide. This wasn't a foxfire anymore. It was a boil. A boil she recognized! Familiar boils weren't for eating!
Helmut let out a whimpering chitter and opened her mouth again, a large tongue lolling out to help the fluffy part out from between her jaws. She closed her mouth with a very obvious sort of slowness, perhaps subtly trying to convince him that she wasn't just chewing on him...and then the little Wendigo was less Monster and more of a little creature. She shifted as easily as he did, tiny claws gripping her overly large Pumpkins jersey and her deer ears drooping low, very silently begging for forgiveness.

Jove pulled his tail back, and gave a shake that started at his head and worked it's way down his body in a very canine fashion, until he shook the saliva off. Then he merely sat and waited for the fluffy creature-turned-student to say something or do something else. His stern expression became one of calm curiosity, being nibbled on really wasn't an unusual thing for the little foxfire, and he couldn't really be upset that it happened.
Although... it looked really ashamed. Jove's brows furrowed, and it gave the other student a friendly pat on the head as though saying "It's okay," much the same way he had often received head-pats from his taller peers.

The small ghoul ducked when the boil reached out to pet her, squinting as if expecting to be hit or stuffed into a magically appearing locker. When the head pats came instead, Helmut peeked open a droopy eye, staring at the boil as if trying to figure him out. Both eyes opened and her ears perked again, hesitant but pretty sure the boil wasn't going to smack her for trying to nibble on him.
"I'm Helmut." She said shortly, pointing at herself. She didn't think she had introduced herself, and now seemed like a good time!

Jove's tail wagged, hesitantly and encouraging at first, but then more freely as the little one perked up. It struck him as strange that another student might find HIM scary, not when he had spent his first year being scared, and his second year trying not to show he was scared, and even now struggled against his small and un-frightening stature. Had he been able to read her thoughts he would have been forced to remember his own locker-stuffing days. He really had been a pathetic ghost, unable to phase himself through even the thin metal of locker doors.
Fluffy ears perked in response as it introduced itself, and his tail wagged a bit more in encouragement. "Jove," he said back, even more softly than usual. Maybe he didn't want to scare the little one off, but chances are his usual near-whisper would have been fine anyway. He held out a hand to shake.

Helmut's ears lifted eagerly as the boil gave his name; if she had a tail, it would definitely be wagging too. When his hand went out she stared at it, offering a little confused chitter and a tilt of her fluffy head. Hand out. That was familiar. Hrm. Droopy eyes glanced up at him as she leaned forward, using the very tips of her fingers as balance to hesitantly sniff the air above his hand. Aww, he didn't have any food.
...Oh wait!
Helmut leaned back, stretching out her own hand to grasp his, smiling wide enough to show one of her missing front teeth. The smile turned sheepish as her stomach decided now would be a fantastic time to let out a loud, rumbling growl.

Jove's head tilted, but he kept his hand extended until the little one shook it for real. Was it checking for cooties? Or- His ears suddenly perked, and he stared at the source of that bizarre grumbly noise. The pup's head slowly tilted the other way. And then with another tail wag he stuffed his hands into his pockets and managed to find a pair of slightly bruised mushrooms. They were even the kind living things could eat! The little ghost offered them up, he could always find more later for himself if he got hungry too.

...Mushrooms! Helmut reached out to take the offered food, opening her mouth - which was considerably smaller than her natural form - to stuff both of them in. Before she started chewing though, she stared at the boil, mouth opened wide...and then picked one of the mushrooms out, offering it to him instead. Sharing was important, or so she was raised to believe.

Jove shook his head, tail wagging again at the creature's innocent eagerness. It reminded him of his little adopted sister, the way it's wants were interrupted by occasional thoughts. But he didn't need any mushrooms to eat just then, he had more hidden away elsewhere he could go to when he got hungry.
By the sounds of this one's stomach, it needed the mushrooms more anyway!

More mushrooms for her! Hurray! The second one was stuffed into her mouth and she chewed them both noisily, swallowing just as loudly. Once done she gave him another gap-toothed grin. "Thank you!" She remembered her manners at the very least, and then tilted her head to look at the boil a little closer now. Or at least a little more obviously, now that she knew he wasn't going to swat her for something. Her stomach still growled, but it was much less pronounced now.
"Wanna play?" She asked eagerly, shifting her weight to crouch low to the ground, not unlike a puppy about to pounce.
