Mikey had been sauntering down the hall of the Monster Dorms, minding his own business and whistling a rockin’ tune, when something pounced at his feet with a tiny growl, springing out unexpectedly from the shadows. The boil yelped, and peered down curiously at the little foxfire attempting to gnaw at his shoe. The little beast must belong to someone, he thought, it was well kept and certainly didn’t seem like a stray. But after quick glance around turned up no possible owners, Mikey frowned, not sure what to do. He couldn’t very well leave the little creature on its own, it was so small and fluffy – it would likely end up being someone’s afternoon snack. At least, that was what Mikey thought would happen. Being so new, he knew only a handful of people, and had no idea that probably everyone in the Monster Dorms knew exactly who the foxfire belonged to. So unknowingly, he scooped the ‘little dude’ up, and continued his way down the hallway, wondering how exactly he was going to find its owner. Knocking on every door he passed seemed like an awful lot of effort, and he wasn’t one to exert himself without necessity. He strolled along, foxfire in arms, and was delighted when he came upon an already open doorway. Score! That made things simple. If only he could be so lucky to have it be the owner… Stellar! As Mikey dipped his head through the doorway, he grinned; the room was filled with foxfires. He couldn’t believe his luck, his lazy side was in absolute heaven. If this wasn’t its home, well, he’d eat his headband. “’Suuuup?” he called through the doorway.

Ren was doing what he always did on days like this.
Napping.
Though on this particular day, he'd spent the majority of the morning attempting to groom all one hundred plus foxfires in his room and needless to say it had taken way too much effort and he hadn't even finished getting half of them cleaned up and pretty looking.
So he'd given up and gone to nap.
Except his foxfires were not about to settle down which meant that Ren was not getting any sleep even though he was trying to and he was just about to kick all of them out of his room and -
"Suuuppp?"
A voice. Ren's head popped up, and there was a scramble of feet and noise and mess as he crashed out of the bed in a flurry of feathers and blankets.
"YES HI HELLO WHAT IS UP - "

Oh… Hey dude!” Hairwolf grinned, watching the mass of feathers and fabric roll not-so-gracefully onto the floor. “Hope I didn’t wake you or anything, that’d be majorly uncool of me.” He glanced down at the squirming minipet in his arms, and promptly set it down, deciding from the fact that the boil’s room contained probably all of the foxfires in the world, that this was its home. “It’s just that this little guy was wandering ‘round and y’know, I thought someone might eat it or something. Though, he did try to nibble me, little chomper.” kurotomato the most graceful and beautiful *preens him*

"NO I WAS AWAKE," Ren boomed, cleared his throat, and said in a much lower tone, almost a stage whisper "Really, I was awake, don't worry."
He waded through the sea of multi-colored foxfires, piles of blankets, heaps of pillows, and various other nonsensical things including a pair of black pinstriped trousers, three bags of uneaten spookies, a spoon, a toy plastic lepus, a pair of reading glasses, a shoelace, and two crayons, all in pristine condition, to reach the boil on the other end.
"Oh, did one escape?" Ren asked brightly, promptly shoving all of the aforementioned things (except for the foxfires, though one or two might have been caught in the wave) under the bed with one sweep of his foot as though he hadn't just done it. "They're always getting out, the little buggers. Thanks for bringing him home!"
He tucked the foxfire beneath his arm and looked up at the boil, sticking out a hand.
"The name's Ren, by the way!"

Hairwolf laughed, for a boil that had just been sleeping, the student sure was full of energy now. Luckily for Ren, Mikey was well-versed in the art of messiness and although his own from was devoid of half-eaten spookies, it was filled with an assortment of disorganized junk. He liked it that way; it made him feel a bit like he was at home with all of his siblings’ toys and items littered everywhere. The foot shoving just made him smile wider. It was a tactic he’d seen many times before. “Well, you’re awake now anyway, eh? No worries at all though, good sir, none. Just glad I could bring the little dude home. I imagine they could be hard to keep up with,” he laughed again, staring at the multitude of minis. He was a bit envious; they looked like fun to have around. Hmm, he thought, maybe he would have to start his own collection. Glancing back to te boil, he struck out his hand, shaking Ren’s offered hand cheerily. “Pleasure to meet ‘ya Ren! I’m the new dog in town,” he grinned.

Ren almost tossed the foxfire over his shoulder. As it was, the little guy was thrown somewhat haphazardly onto his bed, where it scuttled away, clearly pleased to be out of the grasp of its rather strange master and buried itself beneath one of the pillows.
"Oh, so you're new!" said Ren brightly, and then stepped towards the boil, grasping both of his shoulders in a firm hold as he gave him a Very Serious Look. "That means you have to ask this Very Important Question."
He leveled a look at Hairwolf.
"What is the function of a rubber duck" "How do you feel on the subject of the gym"

Ren grasped his shoulders with purpose, and Mikey stared, curious and hanging onto his every word. Very Important Question? Maybe there was some sort of initiation… Looking Ren up and down, the werewolf decided if this was his hazer, he could initiate him all he wanted. He waited, while the boil built up the suspense, staring straight at him before finally delivering the crucial message. And it was a very deflated looking puppy that answered him, his fuzzy ears drooping ever so slightly. “The gym?” he asked, looking a little confused at the question. “I enjoy a good workout as much as the next person… But we’ve only just met…”

Why was he looking so despondent? Ren eyed Mikey carefully, decided it was just his imagination, and then flung an arm around the boil's shoulders, proceeding to drag him forcibly from the room.
"Mikey, my new friend," said Ren, in a very dramatic sort of voice. "The time we've known each other has nothing to do with the gym, ok, it is a test of wills and a test of strengths and of mental stability - "
And off he went, for several moments, until he finally wound down and ended with "And to top it all off, it's pretty dang awesome, so come with me and let me show you a good time ok."

It was impossible to dwell on his disappointment, not that such a thing was even possible for Mikey. Ren had slapped his arm around the werewolf’s shoulders, and Mikey grinned toothily at him, listening as he spoke excitedly of the wonders of the gym. Mikey wasn’t entirely sure that the gym was entirely so wonderful, to him it was mostly just a necessity, and he bore the awkward grunts and stench of sweat only as long as he had to. Of course, he mused, looking Ren over, perhaps having a gym buddy would make it more worth his while to attend. Mikey certainly never turned down a good time, even if it was at the gym. “If you say so dude, I believe you. Let’s do this thing.”

Ren was overjoyed.
"Excellent," he said, bouncing on the balls of his feet, his wings flapping enthusiastically. "It's always good to have someone you can work out with, y'know? And besides," he waved a hand. "It's not fun unless you can get someone you know with you."
Five minutes later and Ren had led them to the gym, practically leaping with enthusiasm.
"ALL RIGHT," he said, clapping his hands together. "You should go ahead and start first, because you're the guest of honor."
