Ok so me and Zane are having a disagreement and he told me to ask in here. So the issue is he says in Asian mythology baby dragons are just koi fish. I said its also seahorses. So does anyone else know anything about it and some good places to look. All I was bringing up in my search was Yahoo! Answers and Wiki Answer

So first off, there's actually quite a variety of Eastern Dragons. They often have elements of many creatures and many are shape shifters. In the case of koi, that seems to be a specifically Chinese legend and they aren't exactly "baby dragons". They are just koi that are transformed into dragons as a reward for completing a specific difficult task. I've encountered stories of humans becoming dragons and dragons becoming humans as well.
As for the seahorses, the only real reference to this I can find is from the anime and manga Fruits Basket, which claims that all dragons were once seahorses as an explanation for the dragon guy transforming into a seahorse. They claim in the show that it's from Japanese mythology that's not necessarily true and I can find no corroboration of the story.

FWIW, Okamiden also shows seahorses as being baby dragons. Chibiterasu gets all his brush techniques from the children of the celestial beings that helped his mom besides a new one that they added.
But one of our friends said that the seahorse thing is from a name translation thing where in Japanese the name for seahorses supposedly translates to baby dragon.
