"All along it was a fever..."
...silence
"A cold sweat hot-headed believer..."
Words slowly drifted to silence, followed by a slow exhale. A coal-coloured paw moved to swat at a pesky fly. The vixen was lying on her back, grass tickling her skin as she watched the clouds above drift by. She would have blended in quite well with the shadows of the nearby trees dotting the landscape...however the bright yellow and red that marked her hair and tail in particular ruined that. There was something calming about cloud-watching. She had a sudden fantasy of flying up so high she could touch them. The fat pudgy ones were low enough that this was a possibility, but what about those silken clouds high up above?
"Round and around and around and around we go..."
Would she be able to reach them? Would the sun singe her wings if she got too close, send her tumbling down and down? Maybe not...She was a creature of fire, after all, suppose she could withstand it... Flight was a beautiful thing, something Veronica would forever cherish.
...
Goddamit. This was boring as s**t!
She needed to move around, do something. Anything. She was pretty sure one of her legs had fallen asleep. Sluggishly, she rose. True to her word, the damn back leg had in fact fallen asleep. Of course. She shook it fiercely, trying to force some feeling back into it. Hrm. What to do...
...maybe she should check up on her family...
Yeaaaahhhhh...no. Definitely not. Besides, her dad didn't need checking-up on. He had Noir now. He wasn't going to be lonely anymore. Neither was she, for that matter. Seemingly overnight her family had exploded from just Vi and her dad to now a total of 6 all up...yup, three new half-siblings. Great. And that wasn't even counting her actual brother...and other father. Both parents had split first thing with one kid each. Maybe deep inside she'd assumed that always happened...maybe that was why she found it so strange that Summanus and Noir were still together.
All her adult life she'd treated love as nothing serious. Every relationship was casual. Each one was brief. She had never stuck around long...
...And what exactly was wrong with her approach to dating? Nothing. She needed a lasting relationship like a dog needed fleas. There was nothing wrong with a fling. Nothing at all.
"Snap out of it..." She hissed to herself, then mumbled: "Need to find something to do..."

Ah, today was the perfect day. A light breeze tumbled over the land rustling the russet and grey fur of the two toned male. He stretched himself out longer taking in the warm sunshine and cool breeze. Veto was sprawled out on the grass, eyes closed, and his body completely relaxed. To other members of his family, being so far away and all alone seemed like a nightmare. But for Veto, the alone time was welcomed. Yes, today was perfect. It had been nearly two weeks now since he had left his mother and tribe in "search" of his siblings or father. Search wasn't really the right word because he had never intended to search for anyone. No, there would be no searching for him. He had only agreed to go along with this crazy plan because he knew it was what his mother wanted. Wanted him to go live with the rest of his family to try and help him with his "development" as she put it. But Veto didn't really want help. He very much enjoyed not talking to anyone and being all by himself. There was no one to talk his ear off about things he didn't care about or bother him in any way. And it was perfect.

...Oh ho!
A devilish grin found it's way onto the 'daeva's face when she saw she was indeed not alone. She flushed a little...er, did he hear her singing...? Maybe she should just slink away...He may not have spotted her yet, it was only by chance that she had sighted him. Pfft. As if. This opportunity was too good to pass up. Relieve a little boredom, maybe if he played his cards right he'd get a little action. Maybe.
Hrm. Vi didn't suppose he had spotted her yet, all the more fun! As quietly as she could she inched closer and towards a nearby tree. Stealthy as a cat she crept up into the branches and into a position where she was directly facing him from above. She was half-tempted to jump on him...but that might not end well on account of the size difference. Veronica smirked to herself. "Having fun there?" She said in a clear, nonchalant voice, grinning wickedly.

Sleep was beginning to take hold of him. The sun was so warm on his fur and the breeze rolled over him like waves gently rolling over the shore. It was hard not to nap on such a fine day in such a fine spot. The grass swayed with the wing, tickling his body here and there.
He reached up with his back paw to scratch at his face when an unexpected voice caught his attention. But surely there was no one else here. This spot had been deserted when he'd gotten here...right? Slowly, he lowered his paw and turned his face upward in the direction the voice had come from.
To his surprise, he was in fact not alone. A giant fox with bat wings was perched in a tree above him. He knew that she must be one of the 'Daeva's that he'd heard about back in his tribe. Rumor had it that they weren't very nice foxes and had a counterpart breed called 'Phims. But none of that explained why there was one here or why it was talking to him.
Veto wasn't sure if he should run away or stay where he was. Running might entice the 'Daeva into a chase which he could see ending poorly for himself. Staying still wasn't a much better option but out of the two, it seemed the most reasonable.
So he stayed where he was, sprawled across the grass, staring back up at her, saying nothing in response to the question she (or at least he thought it was a she) had asked him.

Vi was admittedly a little disappointed that the male didn't completely jump out of his skin, but the look on his face sure was priceless. She gave an innocent smile and wiggled the toes of her front foot in a sickly-sweet imitation of a wave.
She chuckled to herself as the male stared at her in shock. " I ain't gonna bite you, you know." She mused, entertained. Her boredom was broken already, what luck! Yeah, he probably thought she was one of those nasty, stereotyped 'Daevas that all the half-decent ones seemed to get lumped together with. Okay, so she wasn't exactly as pure as the fresh-fallen snow, but she wasn't that bad.
Her suspicions were confirmed when she noticed him tense up. He was probably deciding whether to bolt or not. No point getting upset really. If she got mad she would only be enforcing the stereotype. Besides, having someone terrified of you could be entertaining...in a sick, twisted kind of way,
She slowly slunk out of the tree and onto the ground, keeping her deep blue gaze focused on him. She wasn't exactly on top of him, but close enough that they could have a conversation without having to raise voices. Veronica hummed out loud. So, staying silent, huh? Scaredy cat. " What's the matter, cat got your tongue?" She teased, hoping to prod a sentence or two out of him.

For years, Veto had only talked to foxes, not with his voice, but with his body. He wasn't sure how it had started as a kit, why he stopped speaking with his voice and only with his body, but it helped him to realize the intention of foxes much more earlier than most. Many foxes lied. But they did it with their voice, not their body. Veto had become an expert of reading the body language of other foxes.
It was a talent that had come in handy many times and did so again now. He watched the 'Daeva carefully, picking up every small twitch of her tail and wings, each tiny movement of her eyes and mouth. His first reaction of course was to think she wanted to attack him but her posture said otherwise. She looked at him more like a bored kit who just found a grasshopper to pounce rather than a malicious fox who wanted to fight for the sake of fighting.
After a long moment, Veto decided she was not a treat, for the moment at least, and decided to act how he acted when approached by any other normal fox. He rose, turned away from her, and slumped back down to the ground with a loud quick exhale of breath, an almost hrmph sound, that signaled he was finished with her. He was not a 'Daeva's playmate. Well, he wasn't anyone playmate really.
