As Mira gathered more distance from the herd of her relatives, she picked up her pace and ran. In a way, it was like how she started this whole journey. She ran from her old family ties and problems. Whenever anything became too close and personal, she took to the winds. But this time...she couldn't. She realized that there were consequences to her bolting away every time anything got difficult. The price she paid last time was the life of her first love. Oh Daria... Tears started streaming down her face as she thought of that adorable and gorgeous mare that she fell in love with all those years ago. She thought of how they could have stayed together and raised their children together. Or how happy Daria would have been to see her again with her surprise visit. But it was all for nothing... The tears started welling up faster than she could blink them away, and Mira was forced to stop running.

Daria stayed her distance from the dark mare, following as she ran, feeling the pain in her heart that the other mare was feeling, and feeling her own, renewed pain at not being able to fix it. Daria waited. She knew she was not supposed to do this. Not technically. But unfinished business had to be taken care of, especially when so long after the death of one, did the love of the dead one come to find out. There was no alternative. She had to be around her one last time.
Daria waited until the mare came to a stop from her running, the running that had first brought Mira into her life, and had taken her out of it. Finally, unable to stay away any longer. She lightly trotted up to Mira, her ethereal hooves not making any sound, though she appeared solid, and her hooves flattened the grass below her. Softly and oh so gently, Daria lightly rubbed her muzzle against Mira's neck, breathing in the mare's soft warmth. "Mira, it is okay." Her voice whispered out though her mouth made no movement as she stepped back to look into the violet eyes of her first love.

Mira had closed her eyes to shut out the world and hold in her tears. So when she heard Daria's voice out of the darkness and felt a light feathery touch on her neck, she thought she finally lost her marbles. Still, she reflexively leaned in the direction the touch came from. It was no surprise that she touched nothing but air. However, she felt a presence there right against her neck. Mira opened her eyes and blinked away stray drops of tears. And then she blinked again, as she stepped backwards hesitantly. She could not believe her eyes. "Daria...How...?" Mira said, breathlessly. Standing right there was her pretty blue lover, right in the...flesh? No, it could not be. The mare before her did not move her mouth when she spoke, nor did her sides moved with breath. The realization dawned on her as she met the soft blue gaze of her love, who even now held nothing but gentle kindness. Mira could feel a fresh wave of sadness crash into her, and it took all her self control not to break down and weep. "Oh Daria, my love. I'm so sorry..."

Daria stayed silent and still as her beloved wept openly upon her. She was just solid enough for the other to feel her and lean against her, but not solid enough to bear much weight or really do anything but the light caress against the other, which was both infuriating and reasonable at the same time. It was a reminder that she couldn't stay... She had to go back, and this time for permanent. There would be no more allowances for her to come and visit anymore, now that her time here was done. Her business would be concluded with this visit, and as much as her heart ached at that thought, she also felt serene and... accomplished. She would see them again, maybe not for a few more years of their time, but time up there passed in the blink of an eye. She would not be lonely up there, or sorrow-filled.. She would be happy, the only ache in her heart that would be left would be filled in no time with the addition of her family in the sky. "Mira... beloved... be still. I do not have much time, and I have oh so much to tell you. We have so much to say to each other..." She nuzzled her dark love, the windswept mare who went everywhere and could not stay in one place for long, who could not bear to be tied down, which ultimately, declared the end of the relationship between Daria and her, for Daria couldn't bear the sorrow of waiting around, wondering if she'd ever see her again... even though the sorrow never truly left, even while she was with Kukai, her heart had ultimately belonged to Mira.

At Daria's insistence, Mira attempted to calm herself. She breathed deeply and exhaled slowly, willing her heart to mend as her lungs expelled the air. A few more blinks cleared away any tears that still clung to her lashes. With a sniffle and a nod, the dark mare composed herself as best she could and waited for her ghostly love to continue. There was indeed much to say, though Mira knew that she could sum everything to one question. So, she decided to let Daria be the first to speak since, as she said, time was precious.

Daria nuzzled the mare until she stopped crying and regained her breath. "Mira... our family has grown in your absence." She said softly, her voice like the breeze sweeping through Mira's mane.

The dark mare nodded slowly and smiled a little. "Yeah, it has. I was not prepared for that," Mira added, though to say that she was not prepared was a big understatement. After a brief pause, she promised, "I'll look after them. For both of us."
