"Get it Lily!"
The Shiba Inu barked once, wagging its curled tail, and watched the ball fly over her head and off into the grass. She became a tan blur, chasing down her round prey and leaping on it with gusto and a wag of the tail. Minny giggled and clapped her hands, shouting "Come back now Lily! You can do it!"
The small dog stared at the brown haired girl, ball taking up most of its mouth because of her small stature. There was mischief in those dark eyes, and the little girl recognized what was about to happen. With a wag and a jump, Lily chose to run the opposite direction, away from Minny. She groaned and with a wave and a point at her parents, she chased after the rogue mutt. Running after her didn't seem to help however, as Lily then thought that chase was the game, and ran in circles around Minny, who's little legs just could not keep up.
Minny eventually got tired, and sat down in the grass. Lily would have to come to her eventually if she wanted to keep playing.

Victor was walking with his hands shoved in his pockets, not too far away from his parents. His mom had stopped somewhere to talk to one of her millions of friends, which left him to wander for a bit until she remembered she was supposed to be walking him home. That would probably be in an hour, if he was lucky, or longer if he wasn't.
He looked up when he saw something moving in the corner of his vision, seeing the dog loping down the street.
It brought him to a stop: he was not sure he wanted to get close to some random dog, even if it was not one of the largest ones he had ever seen. He was nervous already, and now he was scared that this dog was going to attack him or something. What if it did? What if it bit him and hurt him badly and he had to go back to his mom bleeding and crying and have to explain why he was being such a wuss and why he let a dog bite him in the first place?
It would all be his fault, and he would be in trouble for it.
He saw the girl chasing the dog and pointed at it, his other hand still in his pocket, but balled up into a fist out of his anxiety.
"Catch that dumb thing! It could hurt someone!"

Minny waited for Lily to return, but rather than take the bait, Lily ran away from the tired child, right toward another individual and the road. Fear struck a chord in the young girl. Roads were dangerous, especially for little doggies that people in cars can't really see very well. Minny jumped up, but before she could try once again to call her dog back, the boy pointed at Lily and shouted about her catching her dog.
And he called Lily dumb.
That instantly clicked on the switch for anger within the grade schooler. Anger that was about to be released on some random kid who had the gall to call her dog names.
Minny rose to her feet quickly, brushing off her jeans and running toward the boy. Her anger bubbled up, and instead of running toward her dog, who was ten yards away and staring at her with eyes alight with joy. Minny stopped in front of the boy, crossing her arms and blowing her brown bangs out of the way.
"Hey! I don't know what you think you are doing." she said with as much bravado as possible. "But you can't call my dog dumb! Ad she wouldn't hurt anyone! She isn't even that big!" It was true. The tips of her tan ears barely reached Minny's hips. She certainly wasn't a threat to anyone, especially a boy who looked so grumpy as this one.
"Lily is a good dog; she doesn't bite. Do you Lily?" she called over to the dog, who sat down and wagged her curled tail with a soft wuff of what Minny assumed was affirmation from behind the ball.

Victor scowled, shaking his head. He was already frowning, and always seemed to be frowning, so the shift in his expression just went from angry to angrier. His eyebrows were deeply furrowed, and he looked very stubborn, hands shoved in his pockets as she approached.
He was feeling a little tense, though, with her being near to him. He was not the best with others, especially not others near to his own age. He was awkward to say the least and he took a step back from her just to keep a bit of distance. It seemed as though he did it out of spite, wrinkling his nose like he smelled her, or something.
It was easiest to cover his awkwardness with being mean.
"Then you're dumb for thinking that. Any dog can be mean. It might not bite you but it could bite other people, and anyway what if it got in the street and caused an accident. Then you'd have hurt people and a dead dumb dog."

Minny became more upset as he stepped away from her. She didn't stink or anything! He was being rude.
"Lily isn't mean!" she insisted as said dog started forward to sit by her young master. "She is the sweetest dog ever, and she ISN'T dumb!" The last part was said a bit louder than the rest of the argument, as if yelling it would make the boy believe it to be true. The thought of Lily being hit by a car scared Minny, but she knew her pet was smart. She wouldn't run out in the street.
"Why are you being so mean? She wasn't even being that bad. And you don't even know her." Minny wrinkled her nose in imitation of his own gesture.

Victor watched her with a grumpy look on his face. That might have been his normal expression, as far as anyone else might be concerned, but that was a non-matter.
He wanted a dog, but his parents didn't think he was responsible enough to have one, so he had decided to hate them until he could get one. That meant hating anyone that had one, because they were obviously being treated like they were better than him and he hated when people were better than him.
Especially kids his own age, younger or older. If they weren't adults then they were no different to him. So why should they be considered responsible enough to take care of an animal?
"I can be mean if I want," he grumped, "you're the one not keeping your dog on a leash. Aren't you supposed to?" He watched her with a very serious face for a long moment before he looked down at the dog. She was pretty cute. "Can I pet her?"

Minny humphed, and almost wanted to tell him no. But instead she said quietly "Yeah, if you promise not to hurt her to try to steal her." Hey, he might be one of those types of people.
Lily barked and yipped, excited to finally get some attention. It wasn't like her master to ignore her over talking to another human being. Especially a new one that didn't smell familiar.
"And we are in the park, so I guess we don't have to have her on a leash. That's what my dad says anyway." She bent down to hold Lily's collar in case she tried to make another break for it.
"So what's your name anyway?"

Victor scowled at her, thinking she had no right to think he would hurt a dog even though he had given her no hint that he would do otherwise. In any case, he moved to pat the dog lightly on the head, very nervously, not sure if he was really safe.
He was not the bravest kid around and unknown animals made him more than a little nervous. Still, he liked them. He wanted to pet them, and be nice to them, because reportedly they could see into a person and bring out the good in them. Inside, Victor thought himself something like a super hero, like the ones he read about in the comic.
He just couldn't get that guy to come out.
"My name is Victor," he said tensely when he drew away from the dog, after two or three pats. Light ones, not much by way of giving the dog the attention she wanted. Victor put his hands in his pockets, watching Minny grumpily. He had fallen quiet now, mumbling something under his breath that sounded like asking what her name was.

Lithia_Brandon I'm sorry I took so long for this! My muse has just been so fickle! *fails* Lily wagged her tail appreciatively when Victor petted her, and Minny gave a grin of triumph. When he mumbled, she leaned forward to hear him clearer, and assumed he had asked for her name. That was what he was supposed to do after she asked his anyway.
"I'm Minny. Minny Apis." she said, pointing at her chest as if it weren't obvious that she was talking about herself.
"So what are you doing out here in the park today?" she asked a little awkwardly, looking back to make sure her parents weren't looking for her. They were engrossed in their activities, and her brother was no where to be found, so she thought she was safe from his stupid interruptions.
"I mean, since you know what I am doing out here. Or you should, since we just kinda argued about it." she smiled sheepishly, running a hand through her short brown hair. "Sorry I got so grumpy. I don't like when anyone says mean things about Lily because I just love her so much!" She bent down to give the dog a hug.

Victor watched the dog and pouted a bit, as if he had been expecting her to attack him and was disappointed that he had been wrong. But then, on the other hand, he was glad he had not been right about the dog because the last thing he wanted was to be attacked by an angry animal.
He was already scared of them, he didn't actually need a reason to be.
When she introduced herself he nodded his head and frowned at her, trying to decide if Minny was a stupid name or not. It was the name of a mouse, but then, Disney was pretty okay and he could not complain about her having a name like one of its most iconic characters.
Even if Mickey was way better.
He backed up when she hugged her dog, shrugging his shoulders.
"I just wanted to go outside, I don't know." Sometimes he just wanted to do something, and absolutely hated it when his parents said no, but those impulses were a little unpredictable. At least today he seemed to be working in alignment to the plans of his parents, and he'd ended up at the park. Except now he did not want to be there. He had his hands in his pockets and he scuffed his foot against the ground.
"Dogs have a lot of germs, you shouldn't hug them like that or you'll get sick and die."

Minny enjoyed her name. Now that she knew what Apis meant, she thought is strangely appropriate that she was the senshi of honey. It gave an extra special bit of secret coolness to her identity.
For wanting to be outside, he sure seemed reluctant to be there. She watched his strange behavior for a minute before she stood back up and said "Why are you so nervous? I thought you wanted to be outside?" Trust Minny to ask the tough questions.
"Lily doesn't have germs. Or at least bad ones that can make me sick. I give her baths all of the time." And the mention of the word 'bath', Lily's ears dropped backwards and she rose to her feet, whining.

Victor was a tough nut to crack, sometimes. His behavior was erratic and he tried far too hard to keep up a persona that was not really his. He did not know who he was and he was confused about how to really figure out what kind of a person he wanted to be. He didn't want to be teased for being a wuss, and he didn't want to hurt anyone, yet all he knew how to do was be a brat and bully others.
If he could just have super powers like the characters in his comics, he would be a lot stronger. As it was, he was weak and kind of pathetic, and needed something else to give him status. Being mean got him attention, and that was one thing, at least.
"I do want to be outside," he snapped irritably, "I just don't want to be bitten by a dog or stand too close to a girl. You probably have cooties!" Which he believed in, adamantly.
Girls were gross. Girls with dogs were just trouble.

Minny puffed out her cheeks, stomping her foot.
"I do not have cooties!" she said, crossing her arms. "You know what? I bet you have cooties! Super, giant....extra mean cooties!" She glared at Victor. "And I bet that you're just scared of Lily, but you're lying to make it seem like you're tough."
Her eyes softened slightly. "You don't gotta lie you know. It's ok to be scared of stuff." Goodness knows she had her own fears. Granted, most of them were super powered grown ups or monsters made of shadows, but he didn't need to know that.

Victor was shocked and appalled when she said he had cooties. He worked very hard to make sure he did not get them, and there was nothing nice about saying he had them! It was like saying he smelled, right after a bath!
Nope. Not fair at all. What a jerk!
"That's what someone with cooties would say!" He shot back, sticking his tongue out at her bitterly. He blew a raspberry with it, wrinkling his nose in distaste.
"I'm not scared of anything! You're scared!"
Victor did not have the strongest come back in the world there, but she had called him out pretty accurately. He was scared of the dog, but more than that, he was scared of her!

"Well you're......well, UGH this is going nowhere!" She shouted, throwing her hands into the air. "What are we, five!?"
She lowered her voice, though she still felt angry. "I'm sorry that Lily scared you. But I promise she's a good dog. She doesn't bite, or steal food, or even socks! Can't you just give her a chance?" She tried to smile to show that she wasn't a complete jerk, though it was hard for her. She didn't like to back down from other kids...
But her voice was starting to hurt from all the yelling.
