She was just an old ghost, wandering alone through hallways, past faces she didn't recognize. The world changed around her, constantly shifting and evolving but she watched from a distance, left untouched by the ebb and flow of time. She detached herself from it, made her appearances less and less. Some of the captains she passed had never even set eyes on her before. She could be forgotten, she realized.

Just an old ghost.

The trails of her wispy cape skirted along the floor, weighed down by the thick braids of her long dreads. Her heels announced her presence long before her face ever appeared, bouncing echoes of her steps along the corridors. Yet any curious face was dismissed, passed over and forgotten. Her bright eyes glanced at them as if they were little more than fixtures in the wall.

And yet.. she slowed down as she approached an old door. It was rather unremarkable as far as doors went - it looked like every other door along the halls of the Negaverse. But she stopped none-the-less, staring at the handle like she was seeing through it, using it as a conduit for a glimpse into her past.

Sailor Vespa believed in the supernatural, even before he had been pulled into the Negaverse and its war, and he did little to hide this from others. Ghosts, aliens, other dimensions, and monsters, all things he truly believed in and would gladly share his knowledge with, regardless if anyone wanted to listen or not. The whole war with the White Moon Senshi and Negaverse was the only confirmation he needed, so, in theory, he felt that he was prepared for the many strange things that could occur at any moment. Summoning magic at will, transformations, all of that seemed like a step higher than the sight of specters.

And yet, that didn't make the matter any better for him. While he always suspected weird things were going on around him, the knowledge that they were didn't quell his shaky nerves and only served to make them worse. There was always a monster lurking behind the corners, meant to be his ally but told to avoid if at all possible to prevent crossfire. Always an enemy, or even an ally that scorned him with cold, untrusting eyes, waiting just around the corner.

Even their own fortress wasn't safe for the Corrupt Senshi of Wasp, and he moved about the corridors, looking for something that might have looked familiar to him. He came to report his findings and turn in his meager energy, but now he was lost. And with each twist and turn and not a single thing striking any sort of familiarity within him, he was getting more and more frustrated, and it was clear to see, even when his eyes were partially hidden behind violet, buggy visors.

"All I want to do is make my report and go! Why does everything look the same?!" Vespa snapped, his voice huffy and his cheeks red with anger. He came across a door and immediately gripped the handle, giving it a twist and pushing the door open vehemently with little thought or care to who or what may have been behind this door. All the while, he ran his mouth, his anger turning into shrilled terror as the outlines of Alkaid took him completely by surprise. "Would it kill anyone to put signs around here? What if someone gets looooAAAAAAAH!"

He wasn't sure if he had hit her and he tried to slam the door shut so that he wouldn't slam the door on her face, and he went tumbling backwards so hard that he tumbled backwards and onto his rear with a pained grunt. His embarrassment was great in masking most of the pain, and he called to the one on the other side. "I... I'm sorry! I didn't scare you or hit you, did I?"

Alkaid's entire reaction was a simple recalculation of her feet, a swift shuffle backwards. The door finished it's arc, swung inches by her face but cleared, then was quickly retracted by a panicking.. senshi?

Alkaid's head tilted slightly in surprise as she stared, once more, at the door. This time, however, she stared at the area where she'd seen his face briefly, almost as if she could see right through it.

"I'm unharmed," she called out, at the same time as she reached for the door handle. One hand half raised to touch the door knob, to pull it open and examine the new corrupt she had somehow failed to meet, but for a brief moment she wondered if she'd really been gone that long. Time did seem to flow differently when you couldn't sleep. So her hand faltered and she tucked it quietly behind her back with the other one, realizing that ripping open a door in her current state might not go over to well with someone.. unaccustomed to her.

"You can come out now, senshi."

"Oh... good... unharmed... that's certainly good..." Vespa said when the voice called from the other side of the door, and that alone was enough to cause his heart to start slowing back down to a more manageable rate. He picked himself off of the floor and brushed invisible dirt off of his pants, more to steady his nerves than to make himself presentable. Only when he was certain that he didn't look like an unholy mess did he go to open the door, and this time, he remembered to give her a friendly warning. "Coming out now... so... step back, please?"

It was good to know that he wasn't talking to a specter or a ghost. He had first thought she was, and in truth, she could still be one and was merely playing tricks on him. It would figure, too, if that was the case. Was he not the butt of everyone's jokes now anyway? Still, he reminded himself that she wasn't a ghost, sucking in a shuddering breath and opening the door.

Now he got a good look at her, and he was no long certain of her ghostly status or not anymore. She casted a shadow and she looked real... he looked immediately from her hair and attire and took in the cuts, though they were not bleeding and yet not scabbed over. He knew it to be rude to look at her like this, but... what else could the little Wasp senshi do?

"Are you sure you're not hurt? Did you just come back from a battle..." Vespa was no good with ladies, that much was clear, but this had nothing to do with his sudden nervousness and concern that overwhelmed him to the point he felt himself shivering. "I can help, I think! I was the only student to pass my first aid class with an A, even certified to perform CPR! Um, do you require assistance?"

He suspected he was babbling, but he suspected it was appropriate behavior, all things considered. He just hoped he didn't offend her by offering to help, which often happened when he offered to help another.

Alkaid liked to think she had been through far too much to get offended by such simple things. She might have been losing her grip on the finer parts of humanity, but she still understood that it would be a long while before the fledgeling senshi before her learned to stop being surprised at the things around him.

"How innocent you are, still," she smiled lightly, a simple curve of her lips. One hand rose and perched on his shoulder, the fingers of her hand squeezing softly in reassurance. Her flesh was not soft and warm, but hardened and so hot it was evident through the layers of his fuku. "There is nothing anyone can do for me, not any more." Her hand slipped off his shoulder and she turned away from him. The click of her heels against the stone beneath her was accompanied by the soft brush of her cloak along the floor. "This is just the price you pay for total allegiance."

Then she stopped and glanced back at him, one brow raised in query, as if she had suddenly realized he hadn't followed her. It had been a long time since she'd had to openly explain herself to anyone. "Come along then, this way. I'll take you to the main corridor."

It was evident that she was as peculiar as her outward appearance suggested she'd be. She was simply the ghost of someone that was, which made the fledgeling senshi more right than he knew. Now she was a soldier, with no memory of really having ever been anything else.

The more he looked at her, the less he felt spooked, and as much as he loved horror and sci-fi films, he always tended to overreact to things around him. By nature, he was easily spooked, though he could usually keep it together when he was in big crowds or in the presence of others. But, given that he was alone with the person that caused his momentary distressed, there was no use in hiding it, but he could see that his reaction might have offended her, so maybe he could try to make amends for that?

"Innocent? Um... yeah, I guess so. Still pretty new to this, but I'm willing to learn!" Vespa could not take back his initial reaction, but he could certainly try to please her with his eagerness. He knew her to be a senior ranking officer and therefor worthy of respect, and he could give respect. He gave a salute, as he introduced himself. "Sailor Vespa, Negaverse Senshi of Wasps at your service."

He wasn't sure to call her ma'am or sir, so he left that bit out, but it didn't make his tone any less formal. He was surprised by her touch, not just because she actually touched him, but the feel of it, and tried as he might, he couldn't help but flinch at the heat and power he felt. He bit his lip and tried not to squirm, but the moment he was released, he couldn't help but bring a gloved hand to his shoulder and tried to rub the heat away. Though a little pained, he listened to her words and he followed her without question.

"Total allegiance to the Negaverse? Oh, well... if you're not injured or anything, than that's okay. Sorry if I offended you earlier..." He was grateful that she wasn't an actual ghost and was willing to help him find his way, and he tried to keep up with her as best as he could, while a million questions wanted to pour from his mouth. "What's your name? And what do you mean by total allegiance? Will this happen to all of us?"

As he caught up with her and began to pour a thousand questions in her direction, she caught herself feeling the faintest trace of pride. It wasn't often that others were eager to know things, to be better prepared, and it pleased her that he was curious now - even as uncomfortable as she clearly made him.

"Vespa, hm?" Wasps. That sounded like a power they could really use against the order. He had been a good recruit.

She stopped mid step and whirled to face him, her cloak flying around her and the bat wings attached to her lower spine twitching with the movement. Then she slowly reclined her head, an acknowledgement of the introduction.

"I am Ascendant General Alkaid, Formerly the Negaverse Senshi of Guidance." She stood back up and began her path down the corridor again, fiery orange eyes focused on finding her way out of the labyrinth-like fortress. "And total allegiance means giving everything up to the negaverse. It's a tricky thing to do, you actually have to try very hard." She shrugged her shoulders a little, but the smile on her lips was peculiar. "So it's not likely to happen to all of you, no."

Because her back was turned to him, Vespa couldn't see her expression and therefore had absolutely no idea what was on her mind. Even if he did see her splintered but still visually appealing face, it was likely he wouldn't have been able to figure it out, and perhaps that was for the best. Sometimes ignorance was bliss and it was better off not knowing, so Vespa was quick to push those thoughts to the back of his head and simply just focus on what he did know and what she would allow him to know. No need to invoke her wrath by making assumptions, he thought.

Yet, when she turned to face him suddenly, he had absolutely no idea if she was angry, and if so, what he had done to trigger such a reaction. He kept his mouth shut, though, as she merely offered him her own introduction and further explained her 'condition'. Or, rather, promotion, and Vespa was curious, mortified, yet oddly relieved at this news. And it shown in his entire form, even when his green eyes were masked behind violet, bug-eyed visors.

"A pleasure to meet you then, Ascendant General," Vespa said, feeling it was only right to use her full rank when addressing her. He wasn't sure what an Ascendant General was, but he suspected that it was a rank of great important and worthy of his unquestionable respect, and thus he would give it in full. He didn't need to know what she did to earn that title, though he was curious, and he allowed for that curiosity to get the better of him as he followed her down the corridors like a waddling duckling. "I can imagine it took a great deed to ascend to such a rank. Um... would it be insubordinate of me to ask what you did, then, Ascendant General?"

He suspected that he should have kept his mouth shut, but... he could not ignore his curiosity. Not just because he wanted to know more about her, but he was wondering what he would have to do to avoid this. Though, with the respect and esteem she held, was this not what he, too, should have strived for? It was a worthy cause to investigate, regardless, and he hoped that she wouldn't mind sharing the tale.

Alkaid's surprise at the question was marked by the soft scuff of one shoe along the floor as she unexpectedly stopped. It was in that moment that Alkaid realized how long she had been living like a wraith. Her sacrifice was written in volumes of the past that had already closed.

"Oh, well, I suppose you wouldn't have any reason to know my story now would you?" A thoughtful look passed over her face as she glanced at him over her shoulder, studying him silently through her softly glowing eyes. A crack on the side of her face flickered to light, hauntingly lighting the crevice in her pale skin for a split moment. Then she simply motioned for him to continue following her as she made a pointed left turn at an intersection of hallways.

"When I was recruited to the negaverse there were not so many of us and I was unsure of what use I could provide to my leaders, bless their starseeds." Her bright eyes focused ahead of them as she spoke, seeing some minute difference in the hallways and navigating from memory. "I began to lament my lack of knowledge and was so sure that if I could unlock the mysteries of my heritage, of my power, that.. I could be a better soldier."

Her pace slowed as she talked, finding an easy peace in retelling her tale for the first time in years. Her face was passive and unreadable for the most part, but a fine 'v' between her brows suggested she was pensive. "During a time of great need, I met a phenomenal cosmic power by the name of Kurma." A very slight curl of her upper lip suggested a fondness, at least so far as the broken china doll could feel it. "He sought to enlighten me and thus, he took me to my planet. But once I was there, so was Metallia, for it is her dark energy that feeds us all."

She took another right without preamble. She simply took a curve into the hallway and expected him to keep up. It was a long time before she spoke again, weighing her words and considering the best way to phrase the most defining moment of her entire existence.

"She asked me for my star and I gave it to her. It is a gruesome process, but this," she stopped at another intersection of hallways, though this one appeared more significant, and spread her arms wide so that he could take in her entire appearance, "is what the result is."

Then she simply lowered her arms.

"Power has consequence."

Once again she stopped and Vespa swore that he could feel himself sliding forward a moment before coming to a complete stop, just inches away from slamming into her. He backed away and hoped that she didn't notice his little scuffle, though if he knew what was on her mind, he would have immediately apologized for bringing up such emotions. However, he still felt bad that he didn't know her story, and he was quick to apologize for that. "I'm new. I mean, really new. I'm sorry, Ascended-General! I'm still learning!"

He had noticed the flicker on the crack on the side of her face, and when she motioned for him to follow, he obeyed without question. He listened intently to her story, trying desperately to keep up with her pace despite her quick twists and turns. He was far more interested in her tale than where he was going, and he almost tripped over his own foot a few times but caught himself in time.

It made him feel a little better knowing that she felt just as lost in the beginning as he felt right now, and he felt a single of envy when she seemed willing to learn more instead of mope about it or wonder in the dark like himself. She had wanted to be a better soldier... so did he! Perhaps she had the answers after all!

He was grateful that she had slowed down, but by then, her story was completely enthralling and nothing could distract him from her words. He mouthed the word 'Metallia' but otherwise kept quiet until the very end, and when she stopped, he once again came close to bumping into her. He waited until she had lowered her arms before daring to say anything, and when he did he felt as if he had not earned the right to speak. So, it came out soft, meek, and rather pathetic, even in his own ears. "Do... you regret it? Giving her your star?"

"No."

The answer was immediate, spoken without an ounce of hesitation, because (all gray areas aside) Alkaid did not regret sacrificing anything that would help the cause.

"But that does not mean I can't mourn who I was, or the things that a young woman always looks forward to." She laced her fingers together and let her hands fall against her torso. She seemed to consider him for a moment, bright eyes focused on him but looking more than simply at him. She was weighing and judging in her silence, with a poker face no mortal would ever crack.

"It is not in all of us to sacrifice everything for what we believe in. It is a path some choose to take, like any other, and I can only hope my sacrifices will aid our cause as much as those made by leaders before us." Here she did smile, a very small, slight smile that thankfully did little to rearrange the features of her fractured face. "Before you even think about sacrifice, first think about faith." She reached out carefully, as if she might touch his face, but stopped only inches short. Her hand remained paused there, as if his energy might tell her something she wanted to know.

"Find your reason for fighting this war and the rest will fall into place." Then she turned her head and, with the hand that had been awkwardly hovering near his face, pointed down the newer, larger hallway they had stopped in.

"If you follow this hallway all the way to the end, you'll be where you want to go."

Vespa hung onto every word, paying attention only to Alkaid and what she had to say and not the surroundings around him. If he had to make this trek ever again, he'd be in a heap of trouble, but how could he be expected to pay attention to the halls and scenery around him when there was an Ascended General before him?

When she said 'no', he was honestly surprised, but he didn't think ill of her for it. Probably because he had no idea just how big of a sacrifice that was just yet, or simply because he believed her. However, the rest of her explanation slightly worried him, and he couldn't help but allow some of that dread seep into his soft voice as he asked, "You... not only gave up your star, but your civilian life as well? You can never transform back, or... simply don't chose to?"

He wanted to think that he was capable of making such a sacrifice if it was asked of him, but now he was beginning to show some serious second thoughts. Like, the kind of second thoughts that made him want to power down and never power up again, to ignore the summons for meetings or challenge a White Moon senshi. He tried not to let that show, though if anyone could see his eyes beyond the buggy visor, they could see just how skiddish and reluctant the young Senshi had become.

Her advice would not go unheeded, though, and he tried not to flinch when that hand reached out towards his face. He wasn't sure what to say or how to respond, but he kept his shoulders stiff and back straight, resisting the urge to salute and thankful that he didn't as he would have likely slapped her hand in the process. He felt the warmth of her skin from this close distance but that hand never touched him, before turning and pointing towards the hallway in question.

"T-thank you, Alkaid," Vespa said, trying to remain professional and hoping that would have been enough to mask the not-so-subtle fear. He tried to think what it was that he was afraid of in the first place, though he was certain that it wasn't just her appearance. Perhaps it was the thought of knowing that he might not have been able to have her strength or faith to make such a sacrifice if it was ever asked of him, but she had given him some hope. And, thankfully, a way out of this building, for which he was eternally grateful for. "I appreciate everything you've done, even if others don't. But thanks, I'll definitely think about what you said... and hope that someday, I can be as strong as you."

As eager as he was to get out of this place, he was suddenly hesitant to go, and he wasn't quite sure why. Maybe he felt as if he had done Alkaid wrong, but what else could he do? He gave her a salute, before forcing himself to turn away. "Good bye. Hope to see you again sometime?"

It seemed like such a stupid thing to say to an Ascended General and he hoped that she didn't hear his groan and the slap to his forehead, as he berated himself when he left. "Idiot. You're an idiot, Vespa."
