Midday lethargy constrained his actions. Rather than practicing with his typical devotion, Alois found his playing dwindling into old songs and routines that he'd played a thousand times prior. Every stroke of the ivory keys echoed through the house, their force dictated by the pedals. Alois played because he was too tired to stop, and nothing but the finale of his memorized songs could rouse him from the minor trance of the piano. Each fingertip slipped off one key to reunite with another in time, in careful measured grace.

The bell broke his concentration.

It resounded in its clarion call, eking into his thoughts and actions.

With mild irritation, he ceased his playing and stood, stretching while he stepped over the small leather bench. He approached the door with a drawn-out sigh, more from exhaustion than the irksome thought of confronting yet another stranger. After crossing the threshold, he rested his hand on the ornate brushed nickel doorknob and waited. Perhaps they'd leave if they received no welcome.

Another resounding bell signaled no such luck.

Answering the door usually fell to Alexandre, who had been reared around a plethora of dinner parties and other social gatherings. He knew how to behave around strangers far better than the misanthrope, who preferred terse (or borderline caustic) replies to drive off unwanted visitors. However, this time it was his turn. Thus, with an anticlimactic click of the tumblers, he opened the door to this new arrival.

Were it not for the few inches of the threshold, Alois would've stood slightly shorter than their visitor, an admittedly spindly boy with shockingly white hair. His nose remained one of his more prominent features, as if he had yet to grow into it. A hat contained the sprawling mess of white strands, whose turbulent disposition often had it framing the boy's brown eyes. His clothes matched the style of his haphazard hair, almost as if getting dressed that morning was more of an afterthought. Perhaps the most striking feature of all was his lopsided grin, as if they were playing a game and he was winning.

Alois cocked an eyebrow at the new arrival, ran his fingers over the slick doorframe and tapped his metal finger claw against the wood. "Are you lost?" He asked, with a hint of derision to his tone. "Ze homeless shelter is to ze left of ze highway, kid."

Surely Alexandre wouldn't associate with a vagrant like this.

They were words designed to sting, it seemed, or at least words tempered by a life of having and very little have not. Another man might have stiffened, taken offense at the tone and the look, might have scowled or taken offense, might have bitten back.

Ever wasn't another man. Instead he grinned, gummy bears on his hip, and raised both eyebrows in a mocking sort of way.

"Been there, done that, that place is s**t. This one's much nicer, I'd say." He tipped his head up and back to look down that considerable nose at Aloise, the brim of his hat only slightly obscuring his expression. It didn't hide it well enough to cover up the laughter in his eyes at the joke of -- well. Being a superior Officer, all things considered, or maybe equals but at least not disgraced.

That last was only a sign he wasn't trying hard enough, perhaps.

"Which one are you? Or are you the butler?" His eyes skitted sideways to the metal claw as he said it. Didn't expect that from a butler, really. "Butler? Valet? Not really sure what the terminology is..."

Cadha was out back doing his best to terrorize the birds, who were up in the trees not giving a care to the terriers barks. The poor dog seemed to think that if he clawed at the tree, as if he could get up it, that he was some sort of tough dog and was thus scaring the birds. The poor thing didn't realize how cute, though loud and annoying, he was being. And Alexandre hadn't the heart to carry the little black terrier, or terror as he had been affectionately coined, into the house. Let him continue his yapping at the birds for a while, it would tire him out. His neighbor, an older couple, could complain later all they liked. He really could care less what they thought, believed, or said. Though he would pleasantly smile and speak with them when later came around, until then though...Cadha was free to claim the backyard as his and scare the birds.

From out back he could hear the piano being played and as he turned to walk back inside he leaned himself up against the wall between the kitchen and the living room. He didn't dare speak, or make any noise, for fear of Alois stopping his playing. He hadn't heard someone play the piano since Lily had moved back into her parents home, and he was remiss to do anything which might capture the others attention and cause him to cease his playing. Alois didn't seem the sort to play when he knew he had an audience, so the blond was determined to keep quiet for as long as possible.

It seemed however that is quiet was for naught as the door bell rang. Who was here, and why? Was it the neighbors? Thinking it might be them, and so early, he figured he'd let Alois deal with them. It would be amusing to let the German meet them and even more amusing to let him handle them, his poor neighbors - not that he felt sorry for them in the least. Crossing his arms over his chest, his head tilting downward, a smirk played across his features as he waited to hear that annoyingly high pitched voice of the female half of the couple. But when that voice didn't come he pushed off the wall and made his own approach.

As he approached he caught Alois accented words. Ze homeless shelter is to ze left of ze highway, kid. So some pauper from the sound of it. How...odd. He wondered why a homeless person would be at there door. But he didn't say anything and continued to listen, wanting to know what a homeless person was doing at his door. And than he heard the other, unknown person, speak and his curiosity was piqued. "I date say this is far from a homeless shelter." He spoke finally from inside the house, and out of sight so far. He made sure his voice could be heard though.

"A butler...as if I would hire help." Not that his parents couldn't afford it, they surely could. But he had grown up without such lavish things as butlers, nannies, drivers and other such things. He had grown up pampered - without a doubt. But there were lines which had never been crossed. His mother had taken him to work with her - thank you very much. It was how he'd met Lily after all.

Finally the short blond approached the door way. A loose fitting shirt, made of a thin and flimsy material, covered his upper half though also showed a fair amount of skin thanks to the deep v neck it boasted. While the pants were fitted, perhaps a little too low on his hips, but did all they possibly could to compliment his petite frame. They went well with the near nude color of the shirt, as the pants were a khaki color, and his feet were socked. He was quite the contrast to the taller, and far darker, figure standing next to him.

Gazing up at Alois he turned his eyes than to the one at their door. He certainly looked homeless to the blond but he held his tongue - for the moment. "Can I help you?" The words were drawled out in a bored sounding tone, which he was, as slate eyes ran over the taller figure. They seemed to be in dire need of a wardrobe replacement but he supposed some people couldn't afford proper clothing.

Butler? Really? Did he look like a butler? "No, I'm his ******** chippendale," he answered in a deadpan tone. Alois let go of the doorframe and made room for the blonde, who stood at a full shoulder-height to him. He wasn't interested in Alexandre's reaction to such a brazen lie, nor was he terribly surprised at it. He knew the blonde as a complete prude, given his behavior and aversion to any topics that even skirted intimacy.

All this human interaction caused him to dig his metal claw into the doorjamb absently. People made excellent stressors.

"Well," he continued in a more suitable - close to even tone. "You haven't left yet, so you must haf' business here. I don't know you, and it looks like Alexandre doesn't know you eizer. So tell me - why are you still loitering on ze doorstep?" If anything, this bizarre encounter was simply letting all the warm air out of the house.

Alois yearned to figure this white-haired enigma out, yet he had few clues to go by. Obviously the man was poorly-dressed, as if living impoverished, and Alois could relate to that. However, he wasn't looking for a place to live - at least, he didn't explicitly state that. He clenched a package of gummy bears in one hand, which he presumed was a snack for the man. Apparently he had money enough to purchase candy. He was also aware of the number of people currently living in the house, which suggested he either stalked the two at some point or he'd come unto that information in some uncouth way. So why was he here, if not to find lodgings for a few days? Was he selling gummy bears? Or did he have some less innocent ulterior motive?

Alois parted from the doorframe and half-turned to regard the owner of the house. "A curious one came to visit you, Alex." He hid the crooked smile tugging at his lips.

Potential for disaster -- the two of them ripping on not only a superior officer, but one almost five years their senior. The glint in Ever's eye was too bright, cheerful, gummybears propped on his hip as he took in Alexandre, unconcerned and unintimidated by the both of them. Rich they might have been, but it meant very little to a young man from the outskirts of towns who'd been raised from a young age to not only live on little, but expect little. The meek shall inherit the earth, after all.

Enough money for beer and cigarettes, and Ever was usually happy enough.

"Ah ha." He didn't offer a hand to shake, but he grinned easily, head cocked and chin tipped up just a little bit. "I'm at the right door then. We work together. Ever Ambrodiel."

A beat, and he raised an eyebrow at Alexander, an absentminded edge of amusement to his voice. "I've heard an interesting, amusing, and perhaps tragic story about you."
PostPosted: Tue May 28, 2013 2:02 pm

Slate eyes went to Alois, quickly, and widened. A light pink hue spread over the blonds fair cheeks. "Alois!" The others name came out a bit louder than he'd wanted, but call it shock over the words which he'd just spoken. Slowly wide eyes narrowed into something of a glare. "Hold your tongue or I won't be letting you deal with the neighbors when they come over to complain next." The older couple next door seemed to dislike his dog, or the noise Cadha made, and Alois music, what they could hear of it on the rare occasion, was also complained about at the same time. Knowing Alois, even to the degree he did, he felt the dark haired male might like to deal with the couple himself.

"It would seem that we have indeed gained a curious visitor." A socked foot gently, and repeatedly, tapped the floor in an idle manner as the blond pondered just what to do. But it seemed the problem solved itself with the scruffy looking males next words. We work together. He knew the other didn't mean the flower nursery so it left only one option. "I see..." Drawn out as the blond cast his gaze on the other and looked him over once more. Turning he glanced over his shoulder to Alois. "You can let him in, apparently he's one of us." Had his voice just lowered a bit? Taken on a slightly darker tone? Perhaps his way of telling Alois just what his own words meant.

As he stepped further into his, and currently Alois, home the blond stuffed his hands into his pockets and would have asked if their guest wanted a drink - would have being the word here. For he froze at the white haired males words. "I see...and may I inquire as to what this story is that you've heard?" Had he heard about Bazzite? Impossible. Six people knew, and four of them he had told himself. Four of them he trusted to guard the secret. Two of them, he could only hope.

Trying his best to act as thought nothing was off, that the simple sentence didn't raise the hairs on the back of his neck, the blond continued into the kitchen. The house at present didn't smell as clean, or nice, as one might expect upon first glance. Rather it smelled like sage and sandalwood, like someone had been burning incense. The furniture was dark, solid, wood with carved designs and the couch and chairs were leather with brass riveting. One cushion on the couch was well worn, leather starting to show signs of cracking, from lots of use. The piano stood in a corner of the room, the instrument which Alois had only minutes before been playing. No, with the comfortable though rich appearance of the room the smells were odd and yet they were there.

Taking a deep breath, inhaling the scent, Alexandre took comfort in his surroundings as he made his way to the kitchen just as Cadha seemed to have decided it was time to come in. With muddy paw prints left in his wake. He'd clean it later, once their guest was gone. He couldn't take the time to do so now. What he did do however was heft the small terrier up into his arms and run the little black, and muddy, paws under the kitchen sink to clean them. All the while his face was licked and a strong, though short and stubby, tail hit his arm as the little dog lavished his affections upon his owner. Once satisfied he set the little dog back on the floor, watching him scamper off somewhere in the house, and went to the fridge to get himself a bottle of juice before returning to the living room.

At Alexandre's behest, Alois nodded once and cocked his head to regard the visitor, all the while walking backward a few feet to allow entry. He paused moments later, and rested his hands against the backs of his hips. "We work togezzer, eh?" His intentions were obvious enough - considering the bookstore was a family-owned business, he could only imply one other occupation. However, that didn't quell his thoughts of a brazen senshi plan to uncover the identities of the officers. Perhaps they put this kid up to it; it looked as though he had nothing to lose.

Then again, so did some of his fellow officers.

Alexandre jumped straight to the heart of the matter, but Alois considered it yet another opportunity to perplex the blonde. "What he means to say is, what do you want to drink?" Sure, he wasn't well-versed in manners or hosting, but he remembered that much. Besides, the boy might've walked a great deal to reach Alexandre's house. "Unfortunately Alexandre doesn't haf' any beer, but pretty much anysing else goes, especially if it's got pomegranate in it." Disgusting s**t in his opinion, but that didn't stop his vertically-challenged roommate from guzzling it.

While he waited for Ever to decide, he took a seat on the arm of the couch, despite being advised against it several times. He locked his elbows when he rested his hands on either side of himself, and regarded Ever quizzically. Studiously.

He wondered exactly how much information Ever would provide without prompt.

"Alois Scholz," he offered, after several moments' silence. "He's Alexandre Evans, ze hero of your tragic story." A crooked grin punctuated his statement.

"His story is a real life allegory about the dangers of overstepping ones limit." Ever flashed them both another of those bright-smiles as he stepped inside. As he passed close to Alois, he off-loaded the gummybears into the other man's arms, shoving it up against his chest whether he wanted it or no. It was only teasingly rough, at least, a gift offered in a less-than-perfectly-gracious way.

"At least I bring something for the hosts. I'm Ever Ambrodiel, and Jesus, this is some place, isn't it?" He trailed after Alexandre toward the kitchen, absently counting paces as he walked, pausing only briefly to take in the piano. He'd drink anything that was in the fridge, bottled or no, girly or water or beer or whatever it might be.

He didn't sit, with his own juice in hand, cooling scarred palms against its surface. Instead he looked around, enjoying the details.

"Is it just the two of you?"

He did want to laugh at Alois comment on the neighbors. And here he'd thought Alois might like dealing with them, doing what he couldn't - tell them off. He was too polite, and didn't want to come off as rude, so didn't say to them the many things he wished to. He'd tell Alois later, and maybe the other would understand that it was him asking him to be rude to the neighbors.

Staring a Alois he nodded his head slowly. "Yes, but as Alois says no beet. You can have you pick of whatever's in the fridge to drink." An open invitation to rummage about his fridge. Inside were the basics, milk, orange juice, and water. But also Alexandre had flavored waters, fruit juices, v8, and then other odds and ends. Fruits and veggies filled the proper bins and there was some sort of meat down on the bottom shelf waiting to be put to use tonight or tomorrow. It was fairly normal, aside from the lack of beer apparently.

The fact Alois was on the arm of the couch didn't go unnoticed by the blond, how many times had he told the other not to sit there? Some things really were hopeless, while other things were improving. "A hero?" A raised brow at Alois. "Hardly." A roll of his shoulders and a tilting of his head, blond bangs brushed from his face and tucked behind his ear. Taking a sip from the bottle he opened he shook his head. "Indeed, it is. However it is a topic I'd like to keep away from." His smile was a little too sweet, maybe a bit strained, given the topic which was brought up it should be expected though.

"I did the decorating. It was my friend who's parents bought her the place. I moved in with her and recently she's moved back into her parents home while they're in England. So it's mine my chance." Not that his own parents couldn't afford such a place, he did plan to ask his mother if they couldn't offer Lily's parents money to buy it from them, as it seemed Lily would be remaining in her family home with her elder brother.

While he was followed back into the kitchen he nodded his head to the fridge, drink on the counter top and little terrier in his arms. "Help yourself to a drink." Little paws went under the cool water from the faucet. The little black bundle of energy did the predictable wiggling, licking, and tried to pull his little paws free as he tried to clean them. "It is, for now anyway. Why?"

The gummy bear package immediately slid off his chest and found their home in his lap. He didn't bother to look at them; rather, Alois shifted his gaze to their previous owner and raised an eyebrow. Did an officer of the Negaverse just hand him candy? Perhaps this organization was stranger than he initially thought. Short people were in positions of power, and visiting agents brought gummy bears as a housewarming gift. "Was zum Teufel...?" He muttered, almost inaudibly.

Well, at least the gummy bears were a product of a german company. He opened the bag easily and picked out a couple green ones before popping them into his mouth. He preferred their chewy texture when stale, but they still had good flavor. He remembered eating a plethora of the chewy candy when he went on a trip to the Rhine river. Suddenly those memories seemed unconscionably far and impossible to return to. Life could never be the same, not as an officer of the Negaverse. With a quiet sigh, he dropped the bag behind him and onto the couch cushions.

Afterward, he returned to the topic at hand. "Zis place is too ******** grandiose for me." He spoke plainly from his seat on the arm of the couch. "I'm still not used to it; where I'm from, you don't grow up wis' all zis... room." Germany didn't afford such luxuries. At least, his parents didn't.

Alois hadn't asked about the ownership of the house before, nor did he question the ornate decorations, so the blonde's explanation was news to him. He hadn't realized the house wasn't in Alexandre's name; considering the state of his closet, surely the boy could afford a place like this. He'd only heard about Lily in passing, as the blonde focused intently on his training and education. Perhaps it wouldn't be just the two of them soon. Perhaps he might finally meet this friend of Alexandre's.

It wasn't an interaction he looked forward to.

"So, Ever," he rolled his r by mistake. "Where do you lif'? In a house like zis, wis' someone, in a cardboard box? You should tell us about yourself just ze same." He flashed a crooked grin.

"Well, I live with Zed in the new apartments, since he's running them and all. And we do have those now, for the corrupted senshi and officers who just don't have their own homes, but..." Ever hesitated, turning his drink in his hand and taking a sip, his eyes sliding to the gummy bears. Perhaps part of him was tempted to grab some of them to eat himself. Would that be bad use of a present?

"I know that when I was recruited, I was living more or less in the subway, so even just a room in someone's house could have served me well." He shrugged and drank, twisting around to look again. He didn't exactly say a room in this house, but perhaps he didn't have to. He swallowed. "So long as I felt comfortable with my hosts."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 03, 2013 10:52 pm

Who was Zed? "Does he haf' a sibling named Epsilon?" He quipped. How unusual; most Americans simply used Zee rather than the older and more appropriate Zed. Perhaps this boy stemmed from a family abroad. Wouldn't it be interesting to banter with a fellow European and criticize the current abysmal state of Destiny City? And this particular purported European also claimed the identity of a Negaverse agent, though he didn't know who.

Perhaps one day he'd enlighten the two.

Alois laughed; it was more an acknowledgement or recognition of Ever's past tribulations than an indulgence in the man's misfortune. "It's curious how you phrase zat. But, are you insinuating zat a room in someone's house would still serf' you well? And what about your hosts, would zey feel comfortable wis' you? Perhaps one host is a little pissed zat you didn't bring any beer." He lowered his head and shot Ever a scathing glare beneath furrowed brows.

"But... Perhaps zat pissed off host will change his mind if you come up wis' somesing in ze booze department." At least he was offering a means to redeem himself, rather than condemn the boy to never show his face again. Despite the nose, he was rather aesthetically pleasing.

Finally he turned his attention to the unconscionably small blonde in the kitchen. "What do you sink, Alexandre?"

Tilting his head at Alois he shifted his weight. "I do hope you get used to living here, and the grandiose nature of the house. You do know you can do whatever you'd like with your room? Make it an escape from my decorating habits." He offered with a smile. "I would dare dictate that someones personal room match the rest of the house." And the other had come with next to nothing. He really should look into getting things to decorate with and turn the basement into a proper, and comfortable, bedroom. Maybe he could offer to assist Alois, at least money wise, so he could settle in properly? Would the other even accept some help? Alois had let him pay for half the cost of the bed.

Rather than fret, and question the German native here and now, he held his tongue and focused his attention where it belonged - the conversation at hand.

"Zed...?" He asked looking from one to the other, as it seemed Alois understood what he did not. "Wait...new apartments. The ones mentioned in the meetings?" He asked before he shook his head slightly. "I see. And it is a good idea to have a housing set up for those who need it. I've offered the rooms here when I can." Having housed Typhon for a short while and now taking in his Lieutenant. He was sure that in time others would come and go from his home, not something he minded, as the war continued and officers had housing issues and needed a place to stay. Perhaps he felt it a duty to help and offer what he could to members? Give them a place to stay even if they'd never call it home.

The other had lived in a subway? How could a person do that? Well he knew people could - they did. But the point was still how could someone live in a subway? And someone who had been what at the time - a teenager? He couldn't picture living in such deplorable a manner. Living like that was just so far removed from how he'd lived that he couldn't picture it.

The other was looking for a place to stay? He had just said he had a place however...how curious. Was he looking to seperate himself from that person for a reason. If so did he wish to get involved by offering a room? But....this was a fellow officer and he wasn't fond of the idea of turning him down.

"Alois, if it's beer you want I'm sure you can manage a fake ID and if not I'll ask a friend to make the purchase for you." He stated as he he set Cadha back on the floor, the little terrier taking off to some place in the house. Perhaps a quick sniff at their guest before he was off to some random place.

The blond stepped out of the kitchen and glanced from Alois to Ever. "I think that if you need a place to stay I can clean out a room for you. If the wall color is not to your liking you can repaint it, I'll cover for the paint. You can, as I told Alois about his room, decorate as you like." Lily might come back...might move back in, he sort of hoped she did and sort of wished she wouldn't. Given the use he was giving this house he didn't need her finding out somehow or for someone to try and corrupt her. That meant he'd have to clean out Johnathan's room....and figure out what to do with his things...He would have to tackle this eventually and it seemed that eventually was sooner than he'd anticipated.

"I do have a few house rules though. No teleporting in here or powering up in here. I don't want signals being picked up from here. The other rule is if someone is over and they are not a known officer there is no talk of work around them. If those are acceptable and you want to move in I'll get to work cleaning out a room." The rules made sense and weren't unreasonable, at least he didn't think so. This was what Ever wanted right? A place to stay? Would he accept?

Ever blinked from one to the other, trying to put two and two together -- and then all at once grinned again, a helpless sort of grin, his eyes bright as he leaned back where he sat. Amused, and perhaps a bit peeved with himself for hinting rather than just saying --

"Oh God help me, no, I'd much rather stay with Zed. Plus, moving in with two single men? He'd almost certainly get jealous." The idea was hilarious enough that, for just a moment, he entertained it. Zac would probably kill him for even thinking it. Good thing that 'mind reading' wasn't in a General King's inventory of powers.

"But it's good to know the option's there, and that you're willing to share, next time a recalcitrant, newly-corrupted Senshi tumbles into my grasp." His grin took a step back at least, to impish instead of borderline hysterical. "Some of them do better with Officers to rely on, than left to their own devices.

From the sound of it, Alexandre embraced the idea of someone else moving in with them. This was a good sign; finally all those rooms in the house that were devoid of occupants could find some use. Though Alois naturally disliked the idea of others moving in, he could spin it to his liking with a few well-placed pranks or quips to make the atmosphere a little uncomfortable for newcomers. At least they'd learn to leave him alone, unless he was powered up. At that point, he realized, Bischofite had more tolerance for fellow humans.

Inwardly Alois blamed the English language for his misunderstanding. It left far too much room for misinterpretation, unlike German, which didn't suffer from copious use of ambiguous pronouns. A pity that English suffered from so many disastrous afflictions, like a lack of clarifications. If only the other two present could speak German.

"Zat sounds awfully specific," he ventured. Alois extrapolated that Ever must've taken in a uniquely frustrating corrupted individual before, and that little endeavor turned sour. He'd never met any corrupted senshi previously; perhaps they all behave in such an irritating manner. If so, then why were they corrupted in the first place? A preposterous notion, to be certain.

Ever made a good point with his statement about new officers. Since he'd moved in with Alexandre, he had someone present to question and who would push him towards success in the Negaverse, even though he initially returned every push in equal fervor. He loathed the idea of magical war at first, scoffing at it and berating Alexandre for believing in such a fantastical mess, but over time, and with his guidance, Alois came to embrace the idea. Now he couldn't imagine life as a normal individual, still living at home with his family. He no longer wanted to return to those days.

Alois stood and stretched, popping a couple joints in the process. He approached the kitchen, where Alexandre was still present, and leaned on the kitchen counter. "If some new recruit lands on 'our' doorstep, I don't sink I'd care too much. It might be fun, if anysing." Especially if that new individual behaved as he does - what would Alexandre do with two mischievous souls leaving cigarette butts in his potted plants? The idea coaxed a smile out of him.
