It was irritating that Irene hadn't shown up yet!
As the only other member of the team that knew about the situation about Annie and Psyche, Iris knew that Irene was aware of how distressing the situation could be at times. As the only one who could legitimately communicate with the "new" girl, Iris needed to meet up with Irene frequently enough to learn some basics. Or vent. Iris wasn't sure which label was more accurate and wasn't about to ponder the subject.
The tomboy wasn't exactly against meeting up in alleyways, but somehow the Senshi of Rainbows doubted that the Senshi of Peace would like to meet up in such surroundings. So instead she loomed about a park bench. She wasn't the sort to sit and wait. So instead she remained standing and paced to one side of the bench, paused and waited for a bit, then moved to the other side, repeating the pattern.
"...I could have made it back home and back by now..." she groaned to herself.
It wasn't an inaccurate statement, but Iris also lived quite close to the park, so it was an unfair statement as well!

The park was safe and safe was good. Assuming anything was safe anymore. No, something had to be safe, or safe wouldn't exist, and it did!
Aquarius was a mess. She really didn't know what to think anymore. Part of her wanted to shatter her henshin pen into a million pieces before running off to Peru. Except she'd tried that before- or a less drastic version of it, at least- and gotten absolutely nowhere, despite all the running she'd done. She knew she had to keep fighting the good fight, but what was the good fight? What was even the point?
The presence of another powerful power signal in the park made her hesitate. She knew that the two of them together would act like a beacon for bad things. Then again, the bad things had proven that they didn't need beacons. And someone that powerful might know things, important things. The possibility that her outpost held a solution to this whole mess was one of the few things that kept her relatively sane.
"I c-come in peace," Aquarius declared, stepping out into the open. Even around allies, she was nervous. That was just ridiculous. She coughed, then shrugged. "Sorry, force of habit, I guess. Got a minute or ten?"

Iris hadn't really been paying too much attention to the approaching aura, so the sudden greeting did cause her to stop in place, vaguely startled. It wasn't exactly what she would have considered a typical greeting, but it did seem to have a sort of peaceful agenda.
The hooded senshi seemed familiar enough, though the blonde couldn't place a name to the fuku. She had probably seen her at some point.
Probably.
Maybe.
When she asked about the amount of time Iris had, the first thing to escape her lips was "...please don't tell me yer the senshi equivalent of a Jehovah's Witness..."
There was a pause. "...and I don't know how much time I have... but... go ahead and give it a shot as long as yer not tryin' to change what God I worship!"

"I don't know any Sailor Jehovah," Aquarius replied warily. Where had that come from? "And what I've witnessed isn't really what I wanted to talk about." In fact, if she could steer the conversation away from the things she'd seen, and done, and not done, she would.
Now was as good a time as any to do just that. Reaching into the bag she'd taken to carrying on her so-called patrols, Aquarius pulled out a battered composition notebook. "I don't care what God you worship. I'm just interested in what language you speak- or might've spoken, about a thousand years ago." This was an eternal senshi, so she figured mentioning past lives wouldn't come as a total shock. Better to just cut to the chase, especially if her time might be limited.

The response was odd, but was still enough to get the corners of the tomboy's lips to sneak up slightly. "Yer kind of literal, aren't ya?"
Seeming relatively comfortable with the conversation, she stood up, planting a hand upon a hip and kind of eyeballing the notebook as it was pulled out. The first thing Iris thought of was an interview, which still could potentially be the case, but when the question was asked, her smile fell flat into a straight line.
She had quite a few answers to that, but why would someone need that information. Most senshi she had encountered weren't in tune with the Silver Millenium. Most knew nothing, and the rare few had some small hints and glimmers of memories spared to them.
"...So might I ask why ya need t'know somethin' like that? What'cha usin' that information for?" Her hand from her hip soon enough was pulled up and laced up with her other arm, crossing them both about chest level as she gave the not-Sailor-Jehovah a hard look.

Aquarius shrugged, not sure what to make of that statement. "I'm a scientist." There, that explained it. Maybe. "A sailor scientist, I guess. Though not a naval scientist. Man, I never want to join the navy. This gig is bad enough."
Stop rambling and get on with it, she told herself firmly.
The reaction to her question was surprising. So far, her search for people who recognized things was met with blank stares. Oh sure, people were vaguely interested in what she was doing, and she even had a few offers of help. But nobody really knew what she was talking about.
This senshi seemed to know what she wanted, before she even opened her notebook. That was weird. Aquarius frowned, suddenly suspicious and not sure why, other than the fact that paranoia was her new modus operandi. "I'm collecting information on alien script. So I guess I'm less interested in what you spoke, and more interested in what you wrote. With any luck, I can use what I find to translate documents that were written during that time period."
The existence of her outpost and its status as a library of sorts was common knowledge to any senshi who'd been around for the Battle of the Surrounding. Still, Aquarius felt uneasy mentioning it outright. If this senshi knew what she was talking about, fine, but if not, she didn't want to tip her hand too soon.

Despite the early rambling, the explanation that this senshi offered seemed thorough. For many, such an explanation would have been enough to douse any doubts.
Iris was not nearly as easy to satisfy.
"...shall I take it that these documents belonged to your past self then?" Aquarius hadn't mentioned such things as alternate lives, but she had mentioned the thousand year gap which also wasn't common knowledge amongst the White Moon Senshi.
With a sizeable pause, the blonde asked "....what did you say yer name was again?"

Huh, now that was an interesting question. Did all of those books really belong to Aquarius Outpost? Even the ones in different languages? Or were some of them loans? It was possible that her past self had borrowed yet more books from other people, though she had no idea why anyone would need even more books. "Well," she hedged, "let's put it this way: if they did't belong to him, I am not being held responsible for the late fees." She couldn't even imagine how much they would cost, for possibly hundreds of books, compounded over one thousand years. The entire global GNP might not suffice!
Ugh, introductions. Aquarius rolled her eyes, but she supposed that it would help to be on an any-name basis with this person. "Sailor Aquarius of Science, Eleventh of Twelve, Guardian of the Surrounding, in service to Princess Chronos, Lady of the Seasons, yadda yadda you get the picture." Not that she really considered herself "in service" to anyone at this point, but if she was going to introduce herself, she might as well be thorough.

What the senshi had said was interesting about the past self. It was interesting, but also not unheard of to the eternal.
There was a quick shift of her expression the moment a name came up. The intensity of her eyes softened and for a brief moment her eyebrows shot up in what seemed like surprise before her expression seemed to mellow into something neutral.
Rather suddenly, she seemed to shoot straight, giving the Zodiac the basic information she had requested before.
"I spoke th'common language of th'Solar System, but couldn't read any of it. I also could speak and read Ancient Iridian, though that was mostly a responsibility of th'sacred duties I had to uphold as th'senshi of my homeworld."

Had Aquarius been seated, she would have fallen out of her chair upon hearing that announcement. Since she wasn't, she simply sat down. Abruptly. On the ground.
Whatever answer she'd been expecting, that was most definitely not it.
"Back up just a sec." Her eyes were wide, her breathing shallow, as she tried to work out what was going on. Even though the other senshi had only spoken two sentences, there was a whole lot of information packed inside them, just waiting to be analyzed. Her mind cast about wildly, picking a subject at random to elaborate on. "Iridian? So you're Sailor Iridian?" She leaned back, putting her hands behind her to support herself, and looked up. Now that she thought about it, this senshi did look kind of familiar, even though the name wasn't ringing any bells.

"Iris, actually."
An eloquent introduction if she ever offered one.
"Iridian is the adjective form of Iris. The people, the language, anything relating to the asteroid of Iris was referenced as something Iridian."
A pair of golden eyes had to lower themselves to where Aquarius had sat herself down. In a matter-of-fact tone, the eternal senshi spoke as she pointed one hand towards the bench she had been pacing about. "Ya know... ya could take a seat there if ya wanted to... ya know... jus' sayin'..."
The last thing she really felt like doing was talking over someone like this. It was a reminder of that god awful purification meeting she had to speak at.

"Oh. Nice to meet you. I'm Sailor Aquarius." Wait, she'd already said that. Well, if this senshi's memory for names was anywhere near as bad as her own, maybe it wasn't bad to do another introduction. The name Iris did sound familiar, but as usual, Aquarius couldn't really place it. She just knew she'd heard it somewhere before.
Really, names weren't what was important here.
The abrupt change in syntax threw her for another, smaller loop. Aquarius looked at the bench, then shrugged and scooted towards it without getting up. Dragging her butt along the pavement was less than comfortable, but she wasn't sure she trusted herself to stand up right then. To the point that when she reached the bench, all she did was lean against it, while still sitting on the ground.
"Getting back to the more relevant part of what you just said- what was that about a common language?" Aquarius couldn't believe she hadn't seen that one coming. Of course there was some sort of common language. There would be no way to communicate with other worlds if there hadn't been, and it was clear that there had been plenty of communication going on back then.

Well, this was awkward to watch!
Iris remained in place and watched as Aquarius scooted like a dog with worms to the bench, then didn't even bother to get up on said bench. Her brow twitched slightly, but she kept her face less uptight than before.
"...so... no bench?" she asked briefly before seeming to resume with her explanations.
"Common language... Iridians learned this primarily as their basic spoken language in all honesty... we were... a society that relied lots on barter. So it was jus' easier t'be able t'talk with all th'other worlds. We didn't rely much on the written word as much. As I mentioned before... Ancient Iridian was more frequently used for spiritual or sacred purposes. Think of it like a religious-language. Not practical fer th'everyday."
She paused to scratch her chin. "Dunno if th'common language actually had a legitimate name... Iridians weren't known for calling anything by 'official' names."

Aquarius just blinked. Repeatedly. This was way more than she had expected. The only way Iris could have boggled her more was to start translating directly from her notebook. While not all of this information was helpful to her specific mission, it was all relevant and had potential uses.
More to the point, however, where did all of this come from? "How do you even know all of this?" Aquarius blurted out. "I thought that White Moon Senshi just got little bits of information when they visited. You sound like an encyclopedia!" Albeit an encyclopedia in need of grammatical edits.
Granted, the fact that other senshi got memories piecemeal was something she'd heard from Zia, and had never bothered to confirm for herself. She'd never had any such visions at Aquarius Outpost, but she chalked that up to being a Zodiac and playing by house rules, instead of the official set that the others used. She'd gotten a chunk of information when she was awakened (or rather, re-awakened), and that was it. Useful, but only to a point. Iris had either gotten strangely specific memories during her visits, or there was something else at work here.

Was Iris willing to open the can of worms that was mentioning she had obtained a sort of royal status and that the memories she stored now were two full sets?
Yes, but only under the right circumstances. And these were not the right circumstances.
So Aquarius' question was met with a round-about answer instead.
"There was a point in time I was visitin' my asteroid every week fer about 6 or so months... gettin' a little bit at a time like that every week adds up..." She shrugged. "Ain't tryin' t'brag or anythin'... but I am pretty sure I have visited my asteroid more often than most senshi visit their own worlds of origin..."
With a cheeky grin, she added "...the more effort ya put into learnin' 'bout the past... the more ya actually learn!"
