Everything on him was as brown as his scales. The hood over his head was aged and worn, nothing that Mesmer would be caught dead in... at least, not within the city. Out here, there were more important things than appearances – like being sure yours was non-threatening for the gullible, innocent little townfolk. A sinister chuckle fell past his lips. Today's victim was one which had been planned, contrary to his previous failures and the chance success of his encounter with Shyam. Since then, he'd been practicing such things as disguises and other forms of 'subtlety,' which he heard had a much higher success rate than his previous practices. Better yet, he'd also been spying on his prey, watching the pink naga go about her daily plowing and planting and taking care of her voiceless mother. A useless ball of kindness with an obvious fondness for another female – obviously he would have to teach her a woman's proper place.

And he was setting out to do just that! Everything he wore had been carried with him in a small brown rucksack, and the last item pulled from its depths was a lute. The tip of his tail retrieved the rucksack by its handle, wrapping it over one shoulder as he cradled the instrument, long fingers plucking the strings experimentally. The sounds made Mesmer cringe. When was the last time I tuned this rotting plank, anyway? He'd wanted a finer instrument, but he was embarrassed enough by his fondness for playing at all, far too much so to request an upgrade for his current piece of equipment. Instead, he tried to keep the item in the best condition he could, which made a difference, but couldn't stop the aging that had already descended upon it.

As he made his way down the dirt path, he tuned the instrument slowly, before finally playing a few soft notes and smiling faintly. The first songs that bubbled to his mind were the ones from his childhood, tunes about the wars and triumphs of his serpentine brethren, but that didn't seem to be the style of this solitary naga pairing. Instead, he drudged up a different song from his memory, a melody about the supposed kingdoms that syrins had built beneath the sea. “Shells make the castles and seaweed, the tassels, down where the syrins dance ~”

Morning mist still hung about the air, saturating it with the scents of the earth. It was a heady, healthy smell, and it drove Kiyoko out of her cavern and into the garden, like so much else. Mother was still sleeping peacefully, but the pink naga had always been a morning girl; the world seemed so much more peaceful in the waking hours, when all its inhabitants were still playing about in Dreamland. It was safer too, and more secret, with no chance of anybody spying on her. Not that anything that Kiyo did was worth keeping secret - just flower-tending and certain recipes for compost. It still made her feel better knowing that everyone else was asleep.

In her peaceful solitude, Kiyoko tended her little vegetable garden, humming a tuneless song to herself. Spring was coming to an end - soon the rosy naga could enjoy the long sunsets of the warmest season, and all the produce that came with it. Her cucumbers were starting to come in, and a few prime specimens were plucked and placed in the basket. Mother loved cucumber-and-tomato salad, maybe Kiyo'd be able to surprise her with some!

Suddenly, a tune that was not hers reached her ears. Kiyoko looked up from her garden to see a man - hooded, brown, and mysterious - making his way down their path, singing a beautiful song about syrins. The naive naga was instantly charmed, and she slid to the edge of her garden, beaming at the traveler as he glided by with his tune. It was so rare that she saw strangers around these parts, and singing strangers besides, especially naga. Her eyes couldn't part from his swaying sienna tail. When he drew close, she raised a timid hand in greeting.

"H- Hello sir! I love your song, it's beautiful. A-And your little harp is adorable. Oh!" With a start, she lifted up her basket, showing off the fruit of her efforts. "Would you like some food for your travels? I have fresh tomatoes and cucumbers- a-and some jerky if you feel like meat." Her rose eyes combed over him, shining with curiosity. Besides her mother, and Winter, she'd never met another naga. The prospect was exhilarating.

Though his chocolate eyes never seemed to leave the road and sky before him, Mesmer saw the girl long before she saw him. A fluttering feeling blossomed within his chest, making his fingertips shiver on the aged instrument in his arms. She was beautiful even from afar, pale pink skin with a silken wash of fuchsia that fell around her waist; even at a distance, he longed to press a branding iron to the pretty dark swirls on her cheeks, grab a fistful of that gossamer hair and--

She was heading his way. A flick of his tongue seemed almost in greeting as he turned to the young woman with a flourish, bowing in response to her nervous greeting, the hood falling over his eyes and leaving only the devilish smile on his lips visible. He didn't want to wait. Impatience curled and thrashed in his throat like a dying worm, and he had to swallow back the sweet threats that ached to pour forth.

"The pleasure is all mine, m'dear," he murmured, voice a low and intimate purr as he invaded her space without a moment's hesitation, murky eyes flicking all across her slender frame. She was all compliments and flighty eyes, twitchy as a jackrabbit. And just as delectable. Any self-control Mesmer may have possessed wasn't enough to keep his tongue from flicking across his lips, aching to sink his fangs into any part of her he could reach. Soon, soon... He glanced casually at the food when it was offered, the Cheshire grin lingering on his lips.

"You'll find that I tend to prefer meat in most cases, my pet," he hissed, long brown tail slithering its way behind her, weaving itself with her's while he moved forward just enough to wrap an arm about her slim waist, tasting her skin and shuddering with delight. Anticipating her terror, he pressed a pointed fingertip to her lips and whispered maliciously into her ear, thumbnail sliding threateningly across her throat. "I don't recommend screaming for help, my sweet. You scream, and whoever you're screaming for will find your headless corpse in the middle of the road. You wouldn't want to inflict such... awful trauma upon someone you love, right?"

Kiyoko never stood a chance.

All innocence, she took his charismatic bow at face value; surely he must be a wandering bard, traveling towards his next meal. Even that wicked smile did nothing to warn her. It was only when his eyes combed over her that she began to second-guess this stranger, but by then it was too late. Before she realized it he had her surrounded, tail locked onto hers like a vice, invading fingers digging intimately into her waistline. She was caught.

Panic set in swiftly, and she struggled as any creature does when cornered, until the prickling of his nails at her neck froze her solid. As she stood there at his mercy, the world took on a strange hollow quality, like Kiyoko was watching someone else's life play out. This can't be happening, she thought with cold clarity, even as the stranger whispered his menacing threat. I just went out to tend the garden. Winter's right inside - she's waiting for me. This isn't happening, it can't be.

"Please." Her voice was hoarse, laden with desperation. "I won't scream. T-Take what you want, it's fine, I-" She began to shudder uncontrollably, tears gathering in the corners of her eyes. "I won't tell anyone about you, just pl-pl-please..." She sobbed; a terrible, weak, helpless sound. "Let me go..."

If there was one smell that Mesmer would never tire of, it was the smell of fear. It oozed from the pores of every creature that knew it was looking into the face of death, the last sight that it would ever set its mortal eyes on. His fingers quivered as one of them traveled across her pale pink skin, taking slow and measured breaths; she was in the palm of his hand, already squirming for mercy. It was enough to pull up the edges of his thin lips, a sharp-toothed grin overwhelming his face as he breathed deeply that intoxicating scent of fear.

"Oh, you poor thing..." he murmured against her ear, one hand tracing her jawline before taking a hold on her chin and turning her face, boring his own red-brown eyes into her's, pupils wide with excitement. "You think that this is a matter of property? I have no need for such powerless devices as money or food; I'm sure that robbing your meager property would give me little more to boast about than I already have. No, no, no, that's simply not the case, my darling. You see...

"It is you that I want, and you alone -- mind, body, and soul," he hissed, flicking his tongue along the line of her jaw before he pulled back, grinning that horrible, evil smile once again. As soon as it was there, however, it disappeared, and his hands were on the rest of her, binding her arms to her sleek form with ropes and knots, humming a cheery tune under his breath, as though there were nothing in the world wrong with what he was doing. When the binding was finished, he pulled her to her feet by the front of the harness, showing her the way that the her chest's bindings were tied onto a leash of sorts, with which he was going to be pulling her back to his home. "It's not too far from here. Too far to find your way back or scream for help, rest assured, but not too far."
