It was a day like any other for the little filly, breathing in a large breath of fresh air as she trotted down a familiar trail. She wasn't horribly far from her parents lands, having left to explore and map out her surroundings as she adored to do. Information was so valuable that it was rare Meridah would do anything without fully analyzing the scenarios and situations. Today...was normal. A little overcast and a small chill was in the air probably thanks to an oncoming storm, one of which she would keep glancing up to make sure she wouldn't get caught in and would return home promptly if things went sideways with her exploring. Being the oldest she felt gave her the opportunity to showcase her maturity, and although she went on the reasoning she wanted to scout the best hide and seek locations....she really wanted to get a compass on the land. It would come in handy when she started her squiring, knowing good tactical points of scouting, attacks, and defense.
Her knowledge would definitely set her apart from her brothers.
Heading into the thicker part of the woods she made sure to keep on alert, ears perked and swiveling against her copper hair to pick up any out of the ordinary sounds. Where she was heading she didn't know; but it looked like there was some sort of hill up ahead from what she could see back in the meadow - it seemed like a good vantage point so she wanted to go check it out. With her head held high as she was an air of confidence, she gave her tail a little flick as she pushed on.
Oh, how exciting it would be to start her squiring, she knew she was going to be a grand knight to make her parents proud. Even if her daddy had a habit of trying to spoil her like she was some frail little lass, but she was strong! Heck, she was sure if she really wanted to she could take her little brothers and win. Yet...she didn't want to overshadow them; Meridah knew that the three of them would account to great things and adventures when they were older. So, in the meantime, she would keep them safe and in line...unless it was a plan to sneak or play a prank.
Then that was alright, right?

He had been able to slip away again, at least, for a time. Vanaheimr could never be sure when exactly the kalona stallion would fall asleep let alone wake up. But he did know that, for the time being currently, he was safe to find comfort in what little he could find. He never strayed far though due to the pure fear he felt towards Asmodeus. Fear of what the stallion would say or do to him. Already he had pushed the limits enough by trying to convince him to let the colt have his only sleeping place that wasn’t right by the stallions side. Vana had little idea what the stallion wanted from him. All he knew was that Asmodeus was very obsessed with keeping him nearby.
As Vana leaped over a fallen log and made his way towards the edge of the trees, he couldn’t help but feel paranoid still. Asmodeus had told him the dangers of the sun, how it would hurt him if he tried to go out during the day time. It was though shear courage that Vana forced himself to explore the shaded areas of the traveling trails. The shadows moved and Vana skittered quickly before the suns light could touch his tiny hooves. Asmodeus would know and see the suns damage if he went out into the sun. Vana didn’t want to hear or feel the wrath that was sure to come.
What time was it? He looked upwards, late noon maybe? He had a little bit of time left at least before the demon would be awoken and he’d force them to move again. Vana still had to contend with his strained muscles of his tiny back and legs. They were continuously sore these days. Many miles traveled in a night. But maybe, if Vana played his cards right, they could stay in one place for a short period of time. Despite Asmodeus thinking he was asleep, he would overhear the stallion speak of things Vana didn’t understand. Something about a following, creating chaos, corruption. The colt didn’t understand anything other than he was too scared to do anything. That was why he hadn’t run away at the first opportunity. He was sure that the stallion would come for him, would find him, and punish him for disobeying.
Vana paused in his movements to catch his breath, his legs tensing in stiffness. He had to rest his legs or else he wouldn’t be able to travel this evening. He whimpered as he laid down under the tree at the edge of the trees, tucking his legs under him, curling into himself. He didn’t want to travel tonight. He was just too tired.

Brushing past the thick tree trunks and curling her body around the bushes; she pressed forth. In the thick of the woods she found it harder to focus, the shadows dancing due to the wind at the treetops. She would think she saw something, but of course, just shadow's play on the bushes around her. Sucking in a breath she puffed her chest, often even pretending to be big and brave would make one believe it...and often those around you. So, although she was nervous....she wouldn't let her nerves get the better of her.
That was...till she actually saw someone.
It was a flash of pink which came into her vision between two bushed to her right, a colt who looked perhaps her age was slithering against the shadows. She remained perfectly still and silent as she watched him, gathering info about him and all that he did. The wings on his back let her know he was flutter...but the horns on his head told a little different of a story. Kalona? Maybe...but she wasn't entirely sure of how much each breed was in his blood. Was he friendly? Mean? His actions relayed he was tired, especially the gentle whimpers as he laid down painfully it seemed.
Although she had half a mind to march out there and demand to be told if he was good or evil....her heart went out for them. In a way, if she saw her brothers like that - well the regressed mothering of being the eldest would surface.
Just like it was now.
Slowly with an air of caution she emerged from the bushes, walking very slowly up to the colt one placed hoof at a time. "Hey there..." Her vocals called, warm and inviting as she tried to keep herself as non threatening as possible. "Are you hurt? I heard you whimpering....I'm not a unicorn but I can help if you are..." She smiled, her copper hair swaying in the gentle breeze. She didn't want to let on she knew how to treat some ailments, or that she was very knowledgeable....sometimes the best tactic was to let others underestimate her at the beginning.

To say he was startled by this new development would be an understatement. To say that he wasn’t scared would also be an understatement. The filly’s voice sounded so loudly in his ears that they pinned back against his head as he leapt up in fright. His legs bowing as he skittered backwards away from her. He didn’t hear what she had asked him. He was too startled to see that she wasn’t there to eat him. But Vana didn’t know any better. He had never heard a female voice before let alone talk to one in any sort of fashion.
He continued to buckle backwards, staring at her wide eyed in fright, never noticing the log behind him coming up fast. And the only time he did was when he went flipping over it rump first. His legs flailing in even more fright as he tried to upright himself. The only mantra in his mind kept telling him that she was there to eat him, to take him back wherever she lived with her parents and eat him. That’s what Asmodeus told him. Other soquili loved to take little flutters like him and eat them for meals. Didn’t matter if it was morning, afternoon, or night. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
He didn’t want to die.
Vana yelped and flailed, finding it pretty much impossible to flip himself back over onto his feet to run away. Tears sprung into his eyes at his futility, hearing the taunting words of his keeper in his head. No. No. No. No. He wanted to live! Please! Let him live.
“Please don’t eat me,” he whimpered to her, finally giving in to the futility of uprighting himself, giving in to giving up, understanding that he would be dead by tomorrow.
At least then Asmodeus wouldn’t have to put up with him anymore. Apparently he was just a waste of space anyway. And Vana didn’t understand why the kalona took him to begin with then. Maybe this way Vana would finally be free from everything that gave him nightmares at night. Or morning. It didn’t really matter. All he knew was that Asmodeus kept them on a fast track place towards somewhere. Somewhere that he didn’t know about. The kalona never told him anything.
Not that Vana complained. He was just a waste of space anyway.
No point in continuing to be there when he wasn’t needed.
What could he provide to Asmodeus? He was just a small colt with horns that weren’t deadly and wings not made for long periods of flight. So maybe running into this filly was a good thing. Maybe she would be his way out of the world so that he wasn’t just there anymore taking up space that would be better suited to someone more worthy.
