He’d been traveling for a while now, a few days if he wanted to put a number to it. There had been a time where he had been afraid of what would happen if he left to explore the world. He knew that his father wanted to keep him and his sister close where he could keep an eye on them. But as Patricius grew up, and came to understand why, he found a yearning forming in his chest. A yearning to leave for a time and explore the world around him. Discover what the lands surrounding his home were like. He’d always hear the stories from his herd mates. The stories of danger and adventure. Him and his sister used to thrive on those stories as they weren’t strong enough at the time to look for themselves. But now that they were adults the time had come.

In some respects Patricius could understand his father’s hesitation to let them explore. His sister had a nasty habit of craving meat and biting whatever she could find. However luckily for her she wasn’t blind like he was. And he was certainly glad he didn’t have a muzzle around his face. But that didn’t stop the pain of the choker around his neck when his father put it on him. As a foal he was completely helpless, unable to see anything. No matter how hard he tried he couldn’t open his eyes. They weren’t sure why but his eyelids were stuck together. It got so bad that sometimes the skin would rip and bleed causing him even more pain. It wasn’t until he began to grow that something more ominous began to take root in his chest….literally.

The first time he saw was frightening. His vision was still skewed and blurry but he could see. He couldn’t understand why. And when he’d try to find the source his father would bat his head away with his wings. It wasn’t until he realized that his eyesight was coming from the single, large eye on his chest that he began to panic. In the middle of the night he’d wake up trying to take out the eye. It would continue to blink and make him see even though he’d be trying to get sleep. On top of that it was painful as hell at first, his skin bunching in places it shouldn’t have.
That was why his father put the choker on him, to stop him from tearing out the eye. Once he had been old enough he gained the courage to leave to see if there were others like him. And so there he was, trying to find his way rather awkwardly through the brush, to find others like himself.

Azimene stepped through the foliage, golden eyes brightening when they landed on the source of her curiosity - - a stream! She had thought she'd heard the bubbling of a small brook, and the tell-tale splashing of water, and she was pleased to find that her senses served her well. The water tickled the air, mixed with the heavy scent of damp earth, and the dark haired mare practically danced in delight.

She was thirsty, and having no idea where she was, or where she was heading, meant that finding a place to drink was always a bit hit and miss. There was never a guarantee when the next river, stream, or pond might crop up, so the mare did not wish to lose this opportunity! So it was, the dark haired mare took one cautious look around, saw nobody in the immediate vicinity, before scurrying forward. If she'd been drawn to water, there was no telling what other soquili might also be lured -- if not to share a drink, than perhaps, to attack those innocents not paying attention.

Thankfully, though she was sickly, Azimene was big and bulky. She was no petite mare, and if blood dripped from her back, and from her ears, eyes, and nose. . Well. It was just a little blood stain against her pale coat, hardly noticeable. Besides, anyone who did wish to fight her would have a challange. . . maybe. She hadn't been gifted the horns, or the back spikes, or the metal claw for nothing. She was sickly. . . if she wasn't physically capable on her own, a few items might help her on her way.

Thankfully, nobody was around, and Azimene, though lonely, was feeling quite confident. If her joints ached, and if she felt only slightly feverish, it . . . it was nothing she couldn't handle. That was her everyday, after all. Lowering her head, giving little care that her braids were now dragging in the water next to her, the mare ever so happily drank.

Uta

The sound of a nearby stream caught his senses first. It was nothing but a small trickle, softly bubbling across the rocks. For Patricius there wasn’t enough there to take care of his thirst, but where there was a trickle there was something bigger. Something much better built for a soquili his size. His eye swirled to follow the tiny stream towards the end line. His feet trudging through the underbrush to the best of his abilities. There were stills some days, and today was one of them, where walking was just a big headache. Disorienting and just a huge pain. It was on these days that he’d just keep to himself and sleep. Didn’t matter if it was night or day. But Patricius knew that right now today was not one of those days. There wouldn’t be one of those simple days for a while. At least, until he found a place to settle permanently.

Coming to a small dirt edge he hesitated, his eye trying to calculate the best approach at getting down. It may seem stupid to many as the height was a mere foot, less height than his knee, but that didn’t stop the feelings of anxiety from flowing. He blinked once, hesitated once more, and finally put one foot down awkwardly. So far so good. Nothing to be worried about. It took him one more awkward moment to get the courage to put his other foot down. And, when he did, his back hooves followed comfortably. A sigh of contentment left his lips, a small smile playing on his lips.

He made it safe and sound, no falling today!

What he didn’t realize off the bat was the fact that he made it to the finish line of his tiny stream. Nor did he realize right away that he wasn’t alone anymore. A cream colored mare had taken note of his presence before he realized hers. And when he did finally noticed he immediately felt himself blushing from embarrassment.

“I’m sorry,” he quickly spoke in a flourish of words, coming out in such a rush he’d be a wonder if she understood him at all, “I’ll just leave you be I didn’t know that there was someone already here my bad my bad my bad.”

He tried to make a quick get away, but in his premature panic, his hooves fell over each other and he balked as the world twisted around him. Totally disorienting to be had and before he knew it his rump had collided with a nearby tree. To that, he yelped loudly and blushed harder, feeling the mares eyes staring at him.

“I’m so sorry! Umm…yeah. I’ll just…be going now.”

And yet he found himself going nowhere, being unable to move and still quite dizzy.

How embarrassing.
