Powhatan stood proudly upon a hill, looking out at the sunrise as the wind tossed the curls in his mane. He took in a deep breath. No looking back. It was time to be on his own. He'd always been independent, but it was time to search for his own adventure. He'd come back, he owed that to his father who had taught him so much already. He knew Copper wanted to find his parents, and he had promised that he would help. But right now he had other thoughts on his mind.

Treasure, rescue, escape, adventures and exploring! Maybe he'd vanquish a walker, or help someone find their way home after being lost, maybe he'd become a hero, perhaps he'd get involved with a beautiful mare and would sweep her off her feet! There was so much the world had in store for him, and as he looked up at the sky he knew there was something great waiting for him. He whinnied and reared, letting his parents know he was leaving and taking off down the slope of the hill towards his bright future. He was ready for adventure to find him.

Delft was attending to his morning ritual, checking his reflection in a small, still pond, making sure that that tail and mane were as neat and tidy as he could make them after a nights sleep. A few tugs with his teeth, a couple of shakes out, and he felt that once again he looked as best as he could.

He'd already splashed his face with water, and then moved onto the running stream nearby to take a drink and swish his mouth out, running his tongue over his teeth to check for food. That done, he cleaned his hooves in the long grass, and finally felt that he was ready to face the day.

With tail held aloft so that the ends didn't drag behind him and get knotted or dusty, he set off, breathing in the morning air and enjoying the sun as it steadily climbed the sky. He had no destination in mind, he was just going whereever his hooves took him, and he slowly meandered down the valley towards where it merged into a hilly area.

Powhatan was still running full force. The earth bounced up and down in his field of vision. The wind tossed his mane furiously so that when he caught a speck of blue among the green of the hills and stopped to look his mane was messy and knotted. There was someone moving in the valley. And boy did she look pretty! A damsel in distress! She must be lost, he thought to himself and ran towards the other.

"I'm here to save you lady, don't worry!" he shouted and then slowed quickly to avoid running into her...but wait...she was really tall...she was...a stallion? Color rushed to his face as he was filled with embarrassment. "Oh...uh...wow..." he mumbled at the other stallion, trying not to giggle at how pretty he looked. Powhatan was used to stallions looking like his father, or his brother, both of whom were usually dirty or sometimes smelly. This stallion wasn't smelly, not like his brother Bly. In fact, he smelled clean!

Delft was just swishing his mane away from himself as an errant breeze had caught part of it and swept it across his chest, when he heard the shout. He looked about, not seeing a young lady, and certainly not one in need of assistance, before he noticed that the owner of the voice, a stallion that looked not too much older than himself, had come to a rather hasty stop in front of Delft. Eventually he worked his way through his first reaction, silent indignation, enough to speak to him.

'Well. That's a first. Though I suppose if you tidied your mane out of your face then you may have seen I was male from a distance.' he said, one brow raised as he regarded his..saviour. Did it really take all that long to look after ones appearance?

'I am glad you managed to stop your headlong dash, were I a lady I might have looked askance at someone crashing into me.'

Powhatan snorted at the other stallion. "Well, I didn't crash into you. If I were a mare I'd want someone to save me," he said and nodded matter-of-factly, as if he knew what mares desired most in life.

"Why do you look so fancy? Going to a party?" he asked, eyeballing the other stallion. He had never seen someone so clean. Ever. He found it slightly unnerving, but didn't say anything. If the other wanted to sparkle, that was his preference. Remembering that he had called the other a mare, Powhatan suddenly felt a little bad for how he had been acting. "Uh...I'm Powhatan," he said, straightening out of his slouchy standing position and standing tall, rather larger than the other.

'True, you did not. The conversation wouldn't be happening if you had smacked straight into me.' Delft replied, one ear flicking as he pondered Powhatan's assertion that if he was a mare he would automatically need saving.

'If you were a mare? Well, apart from being the most dishevelled mare I've seen, I wouldn't assume you needed saving. Mares, like stallions are all different, and I think those that don't need saving could be in the majority.'

He really hadn't heard that mares all stood around waiting to be rescued; his sister certainly didn't seem that way.

'Fancy? Party?' he echoed.

'If you mean I look presentable, I always look like this. It doesn't take much to always look ones best.' Delft was feeling slightly nettled still about being thought female, but was mollified to see this Powhatan did have some manners.

'Delft,' he replied, sweeping a bow, and carefully flicking his mane to the side when he stood tall again.

Well that really bursted his bubble. He wanted someone to rescue! What good was an adventure if there was no danger? And what kind of adventure involved someone who didn't want to be saved? His father had told him the same thing, and of course he knew that not all mares wanted to be saved, but he could dream couldn't he? Apparently not. He shrugged as he listened to Delft's words and watched with wide eyes as he took a deep bow. It was as if he had just performed a great musical piece or done a lovely dance, he seemed so proud to introduce himself.

Powhatan simply nodded a little awkwardly. "Nice to meet you, Delft," he said and grinned, "Well, I'll be going now. I'm gonna find something to do if it kills me." He winked at the other stallion and made a motion to leave, but then looked at the other stallion and dipped his head in what he hoped was a satisfactory bow. His curly mane fell sloppily into his face and he puffed it away with another large grin.

'Uh likewise I am sure.' Delft replied, an ear flicking at the abrupt nature with which the stallion had come along and now seemed to be going again. Well, he guessed that was what happened if you tore around the country like some scruffy dervish.

'Well I've heard of stranger things, but I wasn't aware that boredom could lead one to do something so drastic. By all means, if you're that bored..' he blinked and a bit of a wince.

'You know if you're going to bow, put some panache into it, a bit of style.' he suggested and then added, thinking it might be an incentive to do so.
'Mares like that.'
