Merlinite had never really looked at his weapon before. So far, it had just jumped into his hand when he needed it, and that was it. He was fine with that, too, because if it was any more complicated than that he would probably have been in a worse state than he was now. Not having to think, just needing his weapon and it appearing, was probably its best feature.
It made fighting so much easier. It gave him confidence, in a small but significant way, to know that he always had this little baton to help him, if his fists weren't enough. And with the strong people he had met so far, they were never enough.
Smacking someone upside the head with a surprise baton was probably his new favorite tactic.
Really, though, the thing was simple and small, and it looked rather harmless. Plastic-y, and not too expensive though he knew that where ever it did come from it was not commercially available. They weren't just selling space batons in stores these days. He knew. He went to stores.
He was sitting cross legged atop a moving truck that had been parked outside an apartment complex illegally for the last four hours at least, and no one seemed to be in a hurry to come out and get it. Probably because it was like two in the morning, and Merlinite had been patrolling in the area and keeping an eye on it for far too long, moving steadily into the time wasting zone now.
There was no way he'd fill quota at this pace.

Buyan had been out for an evening stroll so to speak. Her heels clicked on the pavement and as she passed she felt the energy. It was one of those feelings that wasn't favorable at all. She frowned as she looked a head.
Sitting on top of a moving truck, she was positive that was where the negative power was coming from. She hummed and continued to walk, trying not to be nervous. She'd gotten her dress ruffled more than once lately on these late night strolls. She wasn't sure what was with these guys and hanging around where they'd find her.
Her little lyre in hand she continued to walk. "Lovely night isn't it?" She asked as she passed trying to act normal. Maybe he wouldn't follow or attack her? Though she had a sinking feeling that ideal wasn't going to last too long.

Merlinite watched her as she walked by, not saying anything for a moment. She had showed up just in time! He was excited for it, immediately, and he grinned at her as she tried to casually pass by without drawing his attention.
But just by being there, and being someone he could fight and even get some energy from, she had every ounce of his attention, and he was very happy about that. He stood up on top of the truck, feeling like a giant.
He liked looking down at his targets, he decided. Made him feel more powerful than he really was.
Bouncing off the truck, he made to land lightly in front of her. Instead, he landed slightly to the side, just as she was passing, and he ended up crouched from how heavily he landed. He straightened up quickly though, grinning at her and dusting off his clothes though he had not wrinkled his vest in the jump.
"Well hello there! It is a nice night, and a lot nicer now that you're here. Out for a stroll, maybe? This isn't the nicest area to be out alone, you know."

Buyan watched as the other stood up on the truck and finally leaped down beside her. She was trying to get use to that sort of thing. "I was," She answered, "It was too night of a night to stay inside."
She paused, "Oh I do hope you're not threatening me already." There was a disapproving pout that appeared on her face, "You really should take a lady out to dinner first." Maybe it was something she shouldn't've said but she was hoping to fluster the other, perhaps distract him long enough to 'disappear'. Though it likely wasn't that easy, not after the other few encounters she'd had. Glad that her uniform hid most of the bruises.

Merlinite could agree with that. It was a nice night out here, and he wanted to enjoy it a bit more than he had been so far. With her arrival, though, he figured he had a much better shot at being able to enjoy himself the way he wanted to.
Fighting and information gathering! What else was there?
He noted her pout and paused for a moment. It was difficult, fighting ladies, and he did not like it as much as he did just beating up other guys. Still, they were the bad guys, to him, and the way he heard it most of them were ladies. So he just had to man up and deal with it.
Anyway, he knew some dangerous Negaverse soldiers that were chicks, too. He couldn't let a little pout get him to forget what he was supposed to do, and make him feel guilty. In fact, he couldn't let anything make him feel guilty. He hadn't encountered kids or cats yet though.
"Hey, if you want to go out to dinner, I'm more than glad to take you. But I gotta get some energy tonight and it looks like you're the only one around to get it from. Sorry, lady!" His grin indicated that he was far removed from sorry.

Buyan frowned as he talked, she didn't like the sound of that. "Seriously you're going to pick on someone you don't even know? What is it with you guys?" She asked folding her arms, she truly didn't understand why these guys decided that she was a good target. Three times now, one youma and now two officers.
"You might as well be picking on little kids or kicking puppies." Though she wouldn't be surprised if he actually did kick puppies and attack little kids, it seemed like something they'd do the more she met them. "What do you do with the energy anyways?"
She might as well see if this one was more inclined to talk than the last two. So far she hadn't gotten squat and she probably should've been a little more informed.

"What's to know? I think I know enough about you to safely say that you're my next target, and that seems like more than enough for the two of us, don't you think? That's kinda the way this war is supposed to work. Hell, any war. I don't think most enemies take the time to get to know one another before they fight."
He laughed at the very idea of it, the two of them sitting down to tea or something. Just to talk it out. He didn't realize that for some Negaverse soldiers, even ones he looked up to and admired, that was the more preferable method. Not for him, though.
There was a vicious streak in him, and this was the perfect outlet for it.
No consequences, at least not as far as he had experienced yet. He would learn as he went.
"But what I do with the energy isn't any of your business. You just need to know that you're nobly supplying it for our cause." He laughed and then charged at her, what small conscience he had protesting attacking a girl but he was able to shove that out of his mind. He swung his baton at her.

Buyan frowned, "A war about what though." She crossed her arms she didn't even know what the heck they were fighting for just that she'd been pulled into it, and besides the need to protective civilians she didn't feel the need to fight anyone.
However, it seemed no one else agreed with her as he began to charge her she jumped to the side pulling out her Lyre trying to block the baton but narrowly missing having the baton strike her arm instead of the Lyre. "It's my business because it's my energy. If I want to know what cause you're putting it towards that's my right." She snapped. "I don't just give blood to any jerk face with a needle there's no telling what sort of disease they spread. Same goes for you and your team's stupid obsession with energy." She was keen on at least defending herself.

"I don't know!" He laughed, though he realized that he probably should know. It was kind of an important part of the whole gig, and he was not sure why he was so in the dark about it. He had not been paying attention, maybe. It had been sprung on him suddenly, that they were supposed to have these quotas now, and from what he understood they had them in the past, but that was before his time. He had only just started out by not doing the energy thing.
So this was just new and exciting, and he was able to flex his power and explore what he was supposed to really be capable of.
It was wildly addictive.
"Nice... thing!" he said, nodding to her lyre. "So you're that kind of skeptical sort huh? Need to know what every dollar you're asked to donate goes to and all that. I guess that's fair, but why should I tell you when I don't know what you're fighting for? I don't know what you get out of stopping us from draining energy." He grinned, swinging his baton in front of him a few times.
He was just filling the quiet. He wanted to get her energy, thinking that maybe something from a powered person was worth a lot more than a civilian.

Buyan's brow lofted when Merlinite said he didn't know, "Well why even fight if you don't know why you fight? Because someone says so?" She looked like she didn't get that part, she usually only bothered if someone else started it anyways.
"Yes, I'm that kind of skeptical. When you live on a budget you tend to want to make sure your investment goes where it's suppose to." Her arms crossed, "I wouldn't bother fighting you if you didn't bother people that didn't deserve it and obviously you can't explain to me so not interested."
She smiled as she started stepping backwards, attempting to make herself harder for the negaverse agent to catch.

"Because... it's my job, man. They saw something in me that they needed, and they invited me into their team. I joined up and now I have to do my job, the job I signed up for. I'm going to do it, until I get to be the one calling the shots."
He grinned. He was a good dog when he needed to be, and he was fine with the idea that someone else was going to use him and call the shots for him for a while. So long as it meant he would continue along his path, that he would get stronger and better and he would climb the ranks, who cared how he got there?
He was a big supporter of the ends justifying the means. He would do anything he had to do, now that the challenge was put in front of him.
Frowning, he moved to follow her. If she was going to make it hard for him then that was fine! He was going to attack her anyway and hopefully he would be able to win because she was so not interested in fighting! Or something like that. He was still young in the negaverse, and foolish. He did not quite understand what he was doing just yet. He was learning as he went along.

Buyan couldn't help but laugh a little. "Oh honey, you have so much to learn. Even when you're high enough to call the shots, there's someone over you."
Even Buyan wasn't that Naive, surely there was someone over her, over this whole thing, just no one saw them or knew about them. "I'm sure even when you get to the highest rank, you're still going to run into someone that's more powerful and higher than you. It's the way military and government structures work."
Her yellow eyes turned to look at the boy. "You're going to be a grunt forever there. It's like that all through life and the sooner you accept it the sooner you'll learn that sometimes, dreams are just that. Little slices of pie that you only get to see once in a while. Even if you managed to make it on your own you still have to look to someone for approval, for acceptance and to validate your existence. If you don't then you're still a nobody at the bottom of a pyramid. Trust me."
"If you don't ask questions as to why you're doing something you might as well be brain washed. There's differences between making the most masterful piece of art you ever will and joining an army of evil; however there's also similarities. If you can't explain why you made that art piece it holds no meaning, it holds no value. True it's pretty to sit there and look at, but if you didn't have something you wanted it to stir in someone, then it's just that something to look at. Where as if it has a reason, if it's meant to provoke the sense and stir the sense and you believe in it so deeply that it moves others. Then there, is your art, your life. That is what you should look for when you're joining "teams" you have no rhyme or reason other than to kill people and for what? Obviously you don't even know. So why should I be so stirred into giving some of myself up for your cause?"
"Answer? I shouldn't." She was watching him, if he was planning on fighting, despite every inch of her body language and tone screaming she didn't want a fight, she could just hope she'd at least come out even.

Merlinite huffed a bit, but he was determined. He acted younger than he was, but that was only in the heat of the moment. He was so damned determined to prove himself, to no one, to everyone, to any one that would give him half an ounce of attention, if ounces were what that was measured in.
He didn't know, he didn't care. That was just the guy he was. Determined and bulldogged in it: he was not going to stop until he reached his goal, even if he wasn't sure how to get there just yet. He just had to keep trying everything he could.
"At least I've got a purpose, and I've got a ladder to climb. So far, I see nothing but a bunch of chickens running with their heads cut off on your side. And you guys call us Chaos." They were, after all, technically more ordered than Order was. He didn't care about her babble, not needing her to feel justified in his reasoning: he wasn't fighting for her. He wasn't fighting for anyone but himself, and by extension, his superiors. He would be fiercely loyal to the cause that had given him power and direction.
That was all he wanted in life, after all. Power. Purpose.
He grinned at her, her words glancing over him like water on a duck's back. He either missed the point on purpose, or just stopped listening before he could absorb anything important. He growled and charged at her instead, baton in hand. When conversations didn't go his way, he found it easier to just take a swing.

Buyan paused as he spoke. "What's the purpose though?" She couldn't help but wonder. As far as she knew and that wasn't much, was that they continued to harm others - both sides did. She frowned as he said they were like chickens with their heads cut off. "We don't have a structure like you but it's different there's still ranks, there's still people we can follow if we choose. . . we just don't hurt others."
She watched as he grinned at her and suddenly charged. She squeaked and leaped backwards her lyre suddenly appearing in her hands as she tried to block his baton. "Come on now. This isn't the way to resolve differences!"
Buyan was admittedly a little worried. Trying to think of ways to defend herself other than using her poor lyre as a shield. When he was close enough she did try and aim a dainty heeled shoe at his toes. Maybe that would make him back off.

Merlinite hated questions like these. He did not think he needed to find deeper meaning in the things he did, because this was his job. Did others spend their time questioning the moral weight of their retail job? He was doing this until he could do something more, and this was the team that had given him the chance to do it. That was really all he needed to carry with him, to justify attacking and potentially killing strangers.
But his morals had been loose since long before he started this new fight.
"Who is trying to resolve differences? You can not like me for smacking you around all you want, it's not going to matter to me one way or the other." He grumbled it, focused more on swinging his baton at her again and again. He was not the best at conversation anyway, that much was more than clear. Thinking too hard about why he did things just tended to trip him up, and he was perfectly content to just do them without question, only knowing that one day it would all pay off.
"Hey!" She tried to stomp is foot and he did get distracted by it, pulling his foot back as if he expected her shoe to have a knife on the bottom of it. And with lady heels, who knew? He was pretty sure it would be foolish to assume it wasn't a weapon.
