Some days were better than others.
Tony was learning to enter the house slowly, and be careful of his tone, just in case his pregnant wife was having a bad day and she was tired or sore and looking for a source to take her frustrations out on. He did not mind being that source, he knew it was not personal, but he had been clocked in the head by random flying objects before.
So he was being careful.
He looked out into the living room, taking off his coat and hanging it up on his usual hook. Dogby was already off and eating, having spent her day with him at the library and ready for a good meal and then a nice long sleep. It was hard work, getting cuddled and cooed at all day.
"Darling?"
Tony called, not spotting her right away. He didn't think she would have gone out without letting him know, and usually he ran to the store when she had a craving of any sort. He rolled his shoulder back a bit, sighing as tension loosened a bit. Sitting at the desk all day was tiring, and sometimes hard on his body.
He wasn't as young as he used to be.
"Kyndall, love?"

Kyndall was miserable. Everything felt too big or too taxed and she was carrying an extra fifteen pounds in front of her. The doctor assured her that the baby was perfectly healthy and normal and not, as Kyn suspected, some sort of giant moose baby. Everything hurt all the time and she could never feel comfortable in her own skin.
Just now she was sulking on the couch ten steps away full on breakdown mode. When she heard her husband coming part of her rejoiced and panicked at it at once.
"Tony?"
Inevitably the commands would start and not always one at a time. But she needed things!
"Baby! I've been stuck here since I got home. I'm cold!"
But then she stopped and thought about it and before he could go to change the temperature she was clawing at her jacket.
"No! I'm hot!"
She tossed the garment on the floor before shivering again because she'd had the AC on at an ungodly temperature akin to an arctic tundra. There weren't any blankets around but inevitably, within moments, she'd be cold. It was only a matter of time.
"And I'm hungry! OH! Remember those really yummy meaty things we got that one time by that one place? You remember, I made a specific point of telling you I liked them. I want those!"
Despite not even knowing what they were or where they might be found. She often mentioned liking a lot of things at the places they went to.
"And I want some chocolate cake. And bacon. Ohhhhh and those little minty things. Or pizza. Have we had pizza recently?"
Probably considering that her favorite local place now took up a speed dial position since her pregnancy began.

"Oh, darling," Tony watched her in wonder. He moved to tend to the thermostat first, turning the temperature up to something a bit more comfortable for everyone in the house to live with, and hopefully would settle her personal heating levels. He did not make a comment about it being set so low, though.
He knew better than that, and would not fall so easily into this trap.
That done, he moved to the sofa, kicking off his shoes as he went and letting them rest where they usually did, under a side table near the door. He sat down beside her, touching her arm lightly in a comforting gesture, in his best effort. He smiled softly at her, reassuring.
Her demands sort of ran through his head, in one ear and one out the other for the most part. He knew that by the time he got to the door she would want something else to eat, and no matter what he brought back it would not be what she was craving when he returned.
"We had pizza yesterday, my dear. There's some still in the fridge. Or... there was. Ah. You may have had it already. But I can go out and find what I can, whatever it is you would like, if you'd like me to. I love you, but if you keep changing your mind so fast..."
He had no chance, he needed to level the playing field a bit.

She honestly couldn't remember, poor thing, and looked surprised when he said that they'd had pizza only yesterday. Sometimes if felt like she was really losing her mind. Between the pain and discomfort she was nearly driven to distraction. As much as she loved Anthony Darrow and the child of his that was inside of her having a baby was no picnic. Thinking about it Kyn didn't feel very good.
She looked slightly disappointed, and maybe like she might cry.
"Oh, well, whatever you want, then."
That was a trap, a huge one, but she wasn't exactly in control of her hormones right now anyway. Obviously those one things from that one place were not on the menu tonight.
"It's ok."
She slumped back onto the couch and sucked in a breath. Their baby was kicking her and it hurt. She pressed a hand to the sight of the kicking. Tears did start falling then. The knots in her back and the kicking was too much. She felt torn in many directions at once and confused.

Tony knew that phrase was not what it seemed. He was not allowed to have whatever he wanted, because she wanted something and he wanted her to be happy. He smiled at her tenderly, moving to touch her cheek lightly as if to prevent any tears from falling. He didn't quite make it, kneeling next to her and wiping her tears away gently.
"Darling..."
He knew it was difficult, but he was there for her. He couldn't really experience it and he did not dare say that he understood what she was going through, if only because he knew that would only incur her ire rather than calm her down. He kissed her cheek lightly.
"I'll get you anything you want, my love. You know that. Don't cry... we'll have a nice night in tonight, okay? I won't even go on patrol tonight, I'll stay with you. Would you like a massage? Or for me to read to you?" She usually liked those things, and he was sticking to what he knew were effective methods of fighting off her depressed moods.

She was still blubbering a little as he tried to stop her tears. Kyn really couldn't help herself. Her hormones made her weepy at the drop of a hat by someone simply reciting a phone number or walking down stairs. It was terrible and inconvenient. She felt like she couldn't really go anywhere between that and his protectiveness over her.
He had her, though, when he said he wouldn't patrol. This was often a point of contention between them these days. She thought it was too dangerous, especially after the events of the Carnival. The body count there had been pretty high even with the senshi there to help. She didn't like the idea of him going out and possibly not coming home to her again.
She sniffed. "You promise?"
Sure enough, as if on cue her tears stopped falling and she struggled to sit up again, basketball sized belly in her way. The baby kicked and made her gasp again in surprise and pain. The emerald haired woman closed her eyes and tried to breathe through it. She chuckled, as if she had not just been crying.
"Your daughter seems to be upset with me."
Probably because she wasn't eating for the billionth time that day.
In truth a massage sounded lovely and she did enjoy when they cuddled together and he read to her. That was much safer than when he was out on patrol fighting monsters and people that wanted to kill him.
That thought made her weepy again.
"I don't want you to die, Tony!" she managed in between huge sobs.

Her emotions were certainly keeping him on his toes. It was like he was standing in the middle of a firing range, and he had no hope of dodging everything coming at him. He just had to do his best, and take the hits that were the least vital.
"Oh, my dear," he soothed, rubbing her back as she returned to crying once more. He barely had time to react to her small smile and her light comment about the baby before she was back to her tears. He felt bad for her, but he couldn't help her with her hormones.
He bent close to kiss her on the cheek.
"I love you. I won't do anything to put you, the baby, or my ability to be with you both at risk. I know it's dangerous out there, and I know I take a chance each time I power up, but there is a balance. And we'll find it. I want nothing else, though, for you to be happy and for us to welcome out baby together, okay?" he smoothed his hand over her stomach, before he moved to gently caress her shoulders and begin a gentle massage.

"But. You. Don't. Know. That!"
Each word was punctuated by a gasping sob, the thought of the danger he was in was entirely too much for her poor worn hormones to take. Even if her mind was exaggerating a good portion of it some of her fears were real. He'd shown time and again that the danger was real. She still vividly remembered the night he came to her with a bullet imbedded in his side.
Ok, that thought made her nauseous and tears were abandoned as she suddenly slumped forward and closed her eyes, trying to steady herself. She couldn't move quickly and didn't want to make a mess he'd have to clean up.
The massaging helped to soothe her and she moaned low as his hands started working at the stiff muscles in her back. She could only sit just so otherwise the baby was too much in the way or she was at a strange angle. This meant her muscles got very sore very quickly by holding herself up. Not to mention she was carrying an extra fifteen pounds in front of her these days in a big round basketball sized belly.
And then her tears were gone and she was relaxing.
"Ohhhh that feels good."
She groaned as he found a knot and it began to loosen under his movements. In some ways, these days at least, this was better than sex and she melted under his touch forgetting anything she'd done in the past few minutes. So long as he kept her calm there was a chance to avoid a full on meltdown. Then her belly rumbled.
"Baby...I'm hungry."

Tony smiled and shook his head, chuckling. He leaned forward and kissed her on the neck, though he did not interrupt his massage for the action, since he did not want to incur her wrath for stopping when she was finally calming down. He liked it best when she was calm, and that just meant taking care of her.
He rubbed her back once he had worked out the worst of the knots, looking at her as she moved and chuckling at her words. Once he went out and got whatever it was she wanted, by the time he was back she would either want something else or not be hungry any more.
But he would go, regardless, because it was easier and it was worth it.
"What do you want, darling? Those ah... meaty things from that place? Or pizza still?" He laughed and shifted to get back to his feet, tired but willing to go and do his husband duties. "I'll get you anything you want."

By now her cravings had moved past pizza and though those meaty things sounded very tempting she couldn't actually remember what they were called or where to get them. No, she'd simply have to do without those tonight. Then what exactly was she in the mood for?
"Oh!" She finally thought of something and brightened, looking at him. She felt proud of herself for some silly reason. Because that was totally normal and rational...
"Lasagna." she decided. Luigi's should probably be on speed dial, too, as much as she'd been craving Italian food. With Harmony it had been Mexican food though the spice hadn't been very easy on her. But still, it was a choice and she had not managed to break down into a full on hormonal rampage. Everyone could chalk tonight up to a win in the pregnancy play book.
Now she just wanted her food...and to cuddle.

Tony smiled and nodded his head.
"Lasagna it is." He would have to remember to get himself a small order, knowing that she would probably not want to share with him if she was as hungry as she looked. And even if she wasn't, he knew better than to interrupt. She was a mother lion, and he was not going to risk provoking her.
He called the place up and they laughed at him, recognizing his voice and asking what it was tonight. They were on their way with it soon enough, and Tony took up his spot on the sofa as soon as they had arrived and he had the food put out for her. He'd gotten his own little portion of spaghetti and meatballs, if only because he rather liked what Luigi's made.
"Sit with me, love, and we'll spend the rest of the night in, okay? We can just stay calm and quiet and comfortable." That sounded nice, in theory, though hopefully she would stick to it.

Kyndall sighed with relief as the food was delivered and put into her hands. It was amazing how hungry she was, nearly all the time. She knew these last few weeks were critical for the baby to put on weight and grow like a weed into this little person but she suffered for it, certainly, and by extension so did her husband.
The vain part of her hoped she could still lose the baby weight after all of this and be somewhat more attractive to her husband than a house or a cow or some such thing she usually compared herself to.
She settled back onto the couch against her husband, something on TV quietly playing in the background. She'd probably fall asleep before too long which was safer for everyone until he gently woke her and managed to get her to bed properly. She was a baby making factory right now and less of an actual person but she was ok with that because the end result was worth it - their daughter Sarah.
She was already halfway there, curled up with her head on his chest, when she shivered.
"Tony, I'm cold."

"I'll keep you warm," he said gently, kissing her sweetly on the cheek. He loved her with all his heart, no matter what mood she was in, no matter what she was craving. And she knew she loved him, which just made it that much more true and real to Tony.
She was his heart. The best part of him.
And he looked forward to having a baby with her, to starting this new chapter. It was going to be scary and overwhelming, but they would always manage to come through.
This was just one more adventure together.
He held her close and let her fall to sleep against him, cuddling her and closing his eyes with her in his arms. He smiled, snoozing quietly after a moment. They both needed their rest, after all.
