The longer he stayed with Quan the more he came to realize that the man seemed to have an endless amount of friends acquaintances. Having been given a bit of free time to himself on Ayr once more, Ainsley had taken to the shallower rocks. The mountain pass seemed to be overrun with birds that, like Ysali dragons, had it in for him, so he was trying to avoid getting himself beaten up some. He was tired that day, and wasn't feeling too up to the task of battling more creatures. He didn't realize the pair of silvery eyes staring at him as he passed a number of caves however, and was simply engrossed in his own thoughts.

Kicking a small stone, he sighed. "Don't like Ayr," the teen muttered. "Too windy; all the dust gets in my eyes when I'm down here..." The teen's musings were for no one else but himself, of course, as he didn't have any actual company. Not counting the Ayrala dragon that had begun to watch him. It wasn't long before Ainsley felt a familiar creeping going down his back, and he slowly made a motion to grab his axe and turned around. In the distance, not quite too far off, was a white dragon, much larger than the Ysali he'd grown accustomed to seeing. It's eyes were trained solely on him, so he furrowed his brows and focused.

Tired or not, he wouldn't have a choice but to fight back if it attacked it, and when it gave a roar and came right at him he lifted up his axe and defended himself from the strike of its claws. He was forced to take a few steps back, as it was much stronger than he expected, and it took all of his strength to push the claws away from him. It took all of three seconds for the dragon to attack again, this time attempting to grab Ainsley with its powerful jaws. Luckily the teen dodged just in time, in the process incidentally striking upward and into the dragon's neck.

The wound proved damaging, but not quite fatal. The dragon could no longer roar, but it writhed about in pain and continued to try and attack him. Feeling a bit bad for the creature, the teen tried his best to end things quickly. The dragon faded away into nothingness soon afterward, and Ainsley picked up his first Ayrala orb. After replacing his axe on his belt he tucked away his newly acquired sole and began to head back the way he came. There was no telling how many more dragons would creep up on him if he kept wandering...

It really didn't take long for the next dragon to catch his scent and head his way. Ainsley had only taken about a five minute walk back toward the town he and Quan were staying in before another Ayrala caught his attention to his left. It looked a bit smaller than the last one, so without any more thought he quickly took his axe in hand and faced the creature. It narrowed its eyes at him and the young Orderite simply followed in kind, holding his axe out at his side and readying himself to make one quick swing at the dragon's head as soon as it came charging for him.

Which was soon. The dragon had taken itself up on its wings and came right at him, but Ainsley was just barely quick and enough and dodged to his left, swinging his axe in an upward sweeping motion just as the dragon passed by. He landed roughly on his shoulder and slid into a boulder, but he looked at the dragon that had just come for him standing off in the distance, perfectly still. The teen was breathing deeply and waiting for a bit of the pain in his arm to abate before getting up, but it didn't seem like he needed to do any more battling for at least a few more minutes.

As he watched, the dragon's head began to slide clean off where he'd cut. The creature then collapsed in a heap and slowly and dissipated, so after a minute of resting Ainsley got up and collected yet another orb. He cradled his now aggravated injury from when he last fought a series of Ysali dragons, muttering something about how he always had the worst luck with dragons and needed to make sure to probably get his shoulder rehabilitated so he could still swing his axe with full force with both of his arms.

Ainsley quickened his pace while heading back. He couldn't afford another encounter; his luck would only last so long. He knew that better than anyone...

He was about halfway there, he estimated, when he encountered yet another Ayrala. It was bigger than the first one he encountered, and it looked a lot angrier and more determined to kill him. Gulping down the lump that suddenly formed in his throat, Ainsley carefully released his arm and grabbed his axe, eyes narrowed and body tense. He really couldn't afford to injure himself anymore, at least not right then, so if anything, he'd have to make a run for it. The dragon seemed to read his mind, and so it attacked him with almost all of its strength and easily overpowered the young Orderite, sending Ainsley flying into a boulder only seconds after it made a swipe at him with its claws. Ainsley was able to dodge the brunt of its attack, but he once again landed painfully on his shoulder, essentially numbing it and making it useless until he got it looked again.. again.

"Ugh.. damned dragons..." he groaned while attempting to gather himself. After he got a hold of his axe he knew he had to make a run for it, so that's what he did. It may have looked cowardly, but he wasn't going to die today.

The Ayrala, however, had other plans. It gave chase, unexpectedly, and was high above Ainsley's head, watching and waiting for the best time to strike. Ainsley continued to run, determined to get to safety at the very least. As they went, Ainsley on foot while the creature glided above him, the teen could feel his legs slowly giving out beneath him. The rocky path and the wind and dust in his eyes was helping any, so as soon as he came to a bit of shelter he took his chance and ducked inside a cave. At the very least he'd have a few seconds to rest before anything else could come and get him...

Of course, it wouldn't help it at all if he ducked into another dragon's den. Which, with his luck, was exactly what happened...

Ainsley was, thankfully, able to rest for at least a few minutes. He had collapsed onto the ground, panting and filthy with his eyes watery and squinty because of all the dust that the wind and his running had kicked into the air. Shelter was about the only thing on his mind at the time, and thankfully the gigantic Ayrala dragon that had been on his tail had merrily gone on its way elsewhere. Maybe it had somewhere else to be, but whatever the reason Ainsley was thankful for the respite. He'd never been so exhausted in his life in such a short amount of time, though that was likely due to the fact that he'd never had the misfortune of running into multiple dragons all in one run before.

He tried not to think about it, and when he was about ready to go he heard something give a forceful huff in his direction. With all the dust it kicked up Ainsley could only guess what it was...

"Oh, come on!" the teen protested, getting back on his feet and making a move for his axe. "In a den!? Really!? I mean, really!? What is this, 'make Ainsley suffer' week!?"

His shouting brought the dragon out of hiding, and it slowly made its way closer to him. Ainsley was able to at least gather himself enough to put his axe up in a defensive position. He couldn't afford another hit to his shoulder or he'd likely fracture or dislocate it completely, so he had to be on the defensive. At least for now. The dragon could probably smell the worry on him, and it seemed to smirk as it huffed again, almost daring him to make a taunt.

"You know, I'm getting kind of sick of you dragons always ganging up on me," the young Orderite started, narrowing his eyes at the creature as it came closer. "First it's those damned Ysali and now it's all of you guys."

Perhaps it understood him, but it sort of snorted at his last statement.

"Just remember that you guys started this," Ainsley went on, this time poising for a more offensive maneuver. "I'm just getting even."

And with that, the dragon gave a roar as if to start the battle, and it came at him. In the limited space inside the cave, Ainsley felt he had the advantage. He dodged as quickly as his exhausted body would allow him - thankfully with a bit of an adrenaline boost - and with each dodge the dragon almost always made contact with the wall. It shook the rocks and perhaps weakened the structure of the cave, but Ainsley saw it this as his advantage and continued on. Whenever the dragon got too close to him he would make a blunt strike and quickly dodge again, rolling and tumbling about to the best of his abilities.

After a while he could hear the rumbling overhead, so his maneuvers began to move toward the cave's exit. The dragon charged again and, finally, hit the weakest spot on the cave's wall. A loud crack overhead echoed through the cave's walls and, as soon as Ainsley managed to tumble outside of the cave's mouth, the ceiling of the "shelter" he'd come across fell and crushed the creature beneath it.

What was left in the aftermath of the little cave-in was a heap of rocks and a large cloud of dust, with another white orb neatly tumbling down the little hill. It managed to get shaken out of the rubble in the process, much to his surprise, but he didn't waste any more time. Ainsley quickly grabbed it and ran off towards the town. He was going at a light jog, but he was definitely not planning to give another dragon time to set its sights on him again.
