This is a private roleplay between Matar (techabyte) and Harlan (Logue).
Teepes techabyte | Logue _______________________________ "Wake up, Peanut."
Ears flicked until upright, the snowy ball of fluff rubbing his paws on his face with a yawn. What had been hours of walking for his much-larger companion had been a leisurely nap for the hare, perched comfortably upon his back. Peanut crawled up to Harlan's neck and peered about.
It was unfamiliar; then again, everything had been unfamiliar to the pair. They were wanderers and had yet to see the same place twice. It kept things interesting, at least. Harlan turned his head and cast his lazy gaze about the river. Stars speckled the sky, reflecting upon the water.
"Look, Peanut. You can see the sky in the water." He tossed his head, bangs flicking from his eye. Peanut chittered when he was almost flung off. "Doesn't usually look this pretty, though. That day-time nap was worth it."
It got kind of boring when one's partner didn't talk. Harlan wasn't sure what had caused Peanut to hold his tongue, but he didn't question it to begin with. If someone didn't feel like talking, well... they didn't feel like talking. The ribbon-wearing hare made up for it with his actions twofold, anyway. That made the interesting sights - beautiful waterfalls, endless deserts, mountains - all the more worth it in their journey.
A journey without a clear destination. They were walking simply to be walking, and that suited the two just fine. Things were quiet, faces came and went, and life went on as per usual. Nothing truly remarkable had happened, but Harlan secretly lived for the random bouts of entertainment they came across.
Harlan leaned his neck forward and peered into the water. It was clear and flowed smoothly along, gentle ripples sending the stars dancing along with it. Yes, this would do.
"We'll rest here for the night," he told his companion. Peanut nodded and hopped from his back. It was time to forage! While he scurried about, Harlan resumed his inspection of the water, tail flicking lazily to the sound of the river.

The stars that twinkled up into the sky spoke. Telling her where she could go, what she could do. They told her the path that she followed. Her eyes lingered on a set patch, flickering from one star to another, a more faded one. They were going out. Some of the stars were fading into nothing; fading into a world where darkness and nothing existed. A frown moved onto her face, eyes flickering toward the star that was fading, before she shook her head slowly and lowered her gaze down toward the ground, at her hooves that were covered with dirt and broken blades of grass. How long has she been walking this time? She couldn't remember when she slept last, truly slept. The stars were leaving her, and she had no idea what to do about it.
Ears flicking, Matar heard the sound of a stream. Her eyes flickered slowly, before locking on a set of trees not far from her. There, it was that way. She glanced at the stars for a moment, before letting her gaze drop again. What if they were leaving her? Her heart felt as though it clamped within a vice grip for a moment, before beating harder in her chest. No. It wasn't going to do that. The stars wouldn't leave her. They were her family. There was no way they would leave her. Shaking her head, Matar let a small smile move onto her delicate features, before walking quietly forward, into the trees, through them, and slowly onto the other side. Her eyes flickered, before locking.
"Oh..."
Matar hadn't expected to see anyone in several weeks, let alone anyone in this area. He was a handsome stallion, for sure. His coloration were striking; a beautiful brown and soft whites. His hair was interesting and seemed quite fluffy, soft even. She tilted her head, analyzing him, before letting her gaze flickering toward the horn. A Unicorn? Curious. She hadn't seen any in several months. Even a partial one. Letting her eyes flicker, she caught the sight of the small rabbit, and stared down at it with curiosity in her eyes, before letting them flicker back up toward the stallion. Her instincts told her to question just what he was doing out here, but at the same time, she knew it was rude to do so. So, she smiled, tilting her head the other way, and silently regretted not ensuring she was somewhat cleaned up. She had, instead, allowed herself to get covered in dirt and leaves, unable to find a time where she could rinse off her hooves.
"Hello there." She said, sending a bright smile toward the stallion.

Pale eyes widened and then narrowed in the direction of the voice; he hadn't even heard anyone approach. Peanut had given no warning. They were probably tired. A crooked smile crept upon his face, laughing to himself over his own carelessness. "Could've died, Peanut," he tsked, shaking his head down at the hare. "Could've died. Thanks for putting those huge ears to use."
Peanut rolled his eyes, evidently having had enough of his larger - and apparently "in charge" - partner's wise talk for the day. Harlan simply laughed.
"You startled me," he called out, shaking his head. "I would have been easy prey, out here, alone... well, I guess I have bait." A hind hoof gave Peanut a gentle nudge. Cocking his head to the side, he observed the mare that stood before him.
She was pretty. That was a plus. She didn't look like she was there to eat anyone or do any harm. Another plus. He knew it was rude to stare, but something about her pale face reminded him of the moon. It was nice. The dirt and grass that clung to her hooves seemed to indicate that she had been out and about for a while. Another wanderer?
Mouth pressed into a firm line, Harlan decided she was interesting enough; after all, not many mares, aside from kalona and the like, seemed to wander alone so late. She must have had a story to tell.
"So..." His gaze listed awkwardly to the side. It wasn't every day that a pretty little thing wandered up and wanted to talk. "Er, if you don't mind me asking, what are you doing out here? It can be dangerous. Not that I can talk." He chuckled to himself. Peanut stared from behind his leg, trying to discern whether he wanted to kill this mare or love her. It was hard to say, but her hat did look comfy.

What was this? A curious look shifted over her features as he addressed the rabbit. So he was close to the small rodent? A small smile shifted over Matar's features as she let her gaze flicker over them. She hadn't meant to startle the stallion. Honestly, she was startled to see him there as well. Generally everything was quiet along these areas. Smiling gently, Matar tilted her head to the side to let her eyes flicker over the stallion once more. He seemed... calm, either way. Letting her gaze shift down toward the rabbit once more, she smiled at him, tail giving a small flick, the feathers shifting along her tail, before she let her eyes flicker back up toward him.
"Oh, no no. I'm terribly sorry that I snuck up on you. I should have made it more obvious that I was in the area." Matar said, her voice gentle.
Matar flicked an ear, before taking a half step forward. She glanced down at her hooves for a moment, once more somewhat embarrassed, before shaking it from her thoughts. It happened, right? People traveled often, and they got dirty. She would wash off soon, if she could. But right now, she was curious about this unicorn that was wondering about. He was handsome, so surely there was some form of mare near by to accompany him. Glancing back toward the rabbit, she sent him an easy smile, before letting her body shift to the banks of the river, tail flicking gently once more. Her eyes fluttered for a moment, before she glanced up toward him and smiled easily.
The question made her ears swivel slightly, before facing him easily. "I... don't like to stay in one place for very long." She said, smiling lightly and tilting her head to the side, before laughing lightly at the small input. "And I understood. It can be dangerous... But a wanderer's heart is never in one spot for long, right?" She smiled happily.

Her easy demeanor caused Harlan's to relax fully; it was infectious, it seemed. A deep breath escaped his chest, and he watched her go about her business curiously. Peanut had not attempted to bat her hooves like a wild animal, yet, so that had to mean she was not there to cause anyone harm. It seemed a pretty flawless bit of reasoning, anyhow.
"I understand," he mused, eyes traveling to the curious feathers upon her tail. He had seen birds with feathers, and winged soquili, but... these feathers seemed to have grown with no real purpose.
Well, they did sit prettily upon her rump. He bit back a chuckle; he was being such a kid.
As Peanut made an attempt to climb his leg and take back his usual post, Harlan added, "I don't know what I would do if I stayed in one place forever. I think my head might explode. Ow, Peanut!" He grumbled at the hare, who had decided claws would be a better way to traverse his leg. Wonderful. Harlan gave Matar a pleading look. "Want a rabbit?"

Smiling at the stallion, Matar lowered her head. She lapped gently at the water, drinking it down eagerly, before lifting her eyes somewhat toward the stallion. She smiled and lifted her head from the water, hoping that she had drank "elegantly" instead of drinking sloppily to where water dribbled all down her chin. Dismissing the thought, she nodded to him and smiled, before letting her gaze once more linger on the rabbit. Oh, dear. He seemed to have hurt him. Shifting forward slowly, Matar smiled at Peanut, before leaning and letting her nose rest lightly under his little rabbit rump. She pushed forward slowly, lifting him up and onto Harlan's flank, before taking a small step back and smiled almost in an embarrassed manner.
"Sorry.... He just seemed to be struggling." Matar said gently, before taking a half step back to stare toward Harlan with light eyes. "Oh... How rude. Um. My name is Al Sa'd al Matar... Though people just call me Matar or Mattie. As for if I want a rabbit..." She said, her voice lowering to a small teasing whisper as she stared at the white fluff of a creature. "I would not complain to having someone so adorable to travel with."
The mare shifted to the side some, tilting her head as she smiled at the stallion and his companion. They were cute, and she was intrigued. The stars weren't talking to her lately; so she may as well just relax and enjoy the company of another for some time.

Peanut gripped Harlan's ear in his mouth and gave it a tug. When Harlan yelped and turned quickly to scold him, Peanut patted his nose apologetically and gestured toward Matar with a nod of his head. His nose twitched, giving the sign for approval. Harlan gave him a dumbfounded look.
"Haha... I see," he sighed, a wry smile curving his mouth. "Peanut likes you." Another bite to the ear. "Ow! I mean, Peanut tolerates you," he grumbled over his shoulder.
It was rare for Peanut to approve of anyone. He would be won over by only those most willing to actively seek his favor; this mare had helped him up, when Harlan would normally have left him to his own devices. That was something. He also knew of soquili that wanted to eat him, so anything above that was already a huge step up.
Harlan shook his mane out and tried to ignore Peanut for a spell. The rabbit would go to sleep on his own eventually. He was bad at staying up late and already grumpy for being woken up. "Al Sa'd... er, Al... Matar," Harlan nodded, looking up and away as he repeated the name a few times to himself. "Matar is much easier to remember. My name is Harlan. Just... Harlan." He smiled.
Peanut's ears flopped back at the proposal of being rehomed, and he curled up to pout on Harlan's back. "Ah, as much as I would like to sometimes gift him away, this little guy is my friend. We've been through a lot together, mainly things involving sharp teeth and hungry animals." A low laugh escaped his chest and he added, "But... if you're looking for some company for the night, we would be happy to help you out."
After thinking on it, Harlan realized how that could have sounded. Sheepishly, he pawed at the grass and looked away. "Er, yes, that's not exactly what I meant! Haha. Just... company. That wasn't me propositioning you."

Matar smiled at the scene. The two were adorable. Very adorable. She had to suppress a giggle at the rabbit; Peanut, was his name. A cute little name. The mare tilted her head for a moment, peering at the rabbit, before looking back to the stallion. Her tail flicked slightly, feathers shifting with the motion. She shifted a bit, before taking a half step forward. Her eyes locked on the creatures, watching them interact for several moments. When he seemed to struggle with her name, she couldn't help but giggle. Her name was hard to pronounce, and it was hard for people to remember most the time. Though she adored it far too much. Matar was the common name people called her; and it seemed that those that grew fond of her tended toward Mattie. Either way, she adored being able to allow anyone to address her properly.
"Oh. It is a pleasure to meet you, Harlan. And you as well, Peanut." She said, smiling at the rabbit. Matar glanced toward the two, eyes curious for a moment, before she shook her head, commenting how she was kidding, and wouldn't dream of breaking up the lovely pair in front of her. Yes, they were very cute, and she didn't want to ruin that friendship. Her tail flicked once more, before she laughed, and her eyes closed, muscles giving a small quiver for a moment from the intensity of her giggles. That was far too adorable for their own good.
"Oh... my gosh. You are adorable, aren't you? I didn't think you would do such a thing. You're far too polite." She commented, smiling. The mare moved over toward him, lightly brushing against him as she walked by, her tail flicking again. "But company I would very much so enjoy. If Peanut doesn't mind, that is." She said, smiling at the little rabbit on his rump.

Hooded eyes watched Matar as she moved, noticed the way her feathers swayed with her. He hadn't seen an equine with feathers in such an odd place; wings, yes, which he supposed was also strange. But it was kind of cute, the way they adorned her rump and tail. It gave the little mare character, and he liked character.
When he felt her lithe frame brush against his own, his ears perked up and forward, head turning to watch her go. Peanut half-heartedly darted out to smack her with his paw at the last second, missing her by inches. With a defeated huff, the rabbit slumped back onto Harlan's hind-quarters and watched her with beady - but hyper-aware - eyes. Harlan chuckled under his breath and gave his head a light shake; was it an invitation? Some other kind of gesture? A complete accident? He was already reading too far into such things.
"I'd be happy to oblige," he chimed in, eyebrows raising as he did a U-turn to follow her. Peanut struggled to stay on, chittering angrily at his ride for the sudden movement. Harlan trotted lightly to catch up to Matar's side, looking down at her through his bangs, which bounced with every step. "But, I'm warning you... I'm not always such a gentleman. Peanut here, he's... well, he's a bad influence."
Peanut, by now, had had quite enough of Harlan's sass. The horse was really full of it, today. Probably because there was a pretty mare hanging around, but even Peanut seemed to acknowledge that she was alright. Settling down with a sigh, Peanut curled up in the dip of Harlan's back, wishing to be left alone.
"Oh," Harlan blinked, "Well, you see it for yourself. He's slothful, wrathful, greedy... hell, this guy's got all the sins wrapped in such a nice little box, you'd think he was nothing but a harmless bunny! I learned everything I know from him." Maintaining a straight face, he puffed his chest proudly.

Matar smiled easily toward the stallion. As she waited, she noted the small paw swipe from Peanut. It was adorable, really. And though she pretended not to notice, she really wanted to just snuggle the small rabbit until he couldn't stand it any longer. She settled with a small giggle, barely audible, and more of a shoulder shake, before she continued to walk forward, her body moving with an almost liquid grace. She had learned a lot from her adventures. Mostly, she had learned how to walk without looking clunky and awkward. Her ears perked back some toward the stallion, smiling toward him, before she tilted her head at the information. Not such a gentleman? She highly doubted that! He seemed like such a sweetheart.
She wasn't fully certain where it was she was going to go; where she was traveling too now. The stars were usually shadowed or hidden by the clouds. Her ears flicked once more, before she turned her eyes back toward the duo. Matar sent him a gentle smile, before heading on toward the forest, her tail giving a small flick, feathers on her rump almost wafting in the gentle breeze. She enjoyed walks more than she thought she would. They were fun. The small quiver of her muscles showed she was slightly cold, but she didn't seem too terribly bothered by it.
At the mention of the sins, the mare shifted through them slowly in her head. Sloth, lazy. Wrath, anger. Greed, selfish. Envy, jealous. Pride, cocky. Gluttony, always hungry Lust... Lust.... The mare paused for a moment. Matar's gentle gaze went back to him, and she rose a brow curiously, before a slow grin shifted over her. She turned slightly, shifting until she could bump his shoulder once more as she walked, her head tilted lightly to the side so she could watch him. "Does that include lust than, Harlan? Because you know... That would delve us back into you propositioning me." She said, a coy smile on her features.

The unmistakeable grin that split across his face couldn't have been held back if a hundred tiny animals were holding ropes and trying to do so. A small chuckle escaped his chest, the stallion shaking his head as it died out. "You're a sharp one, I like that! You caught me. But it's not what it sounds like."
Slowly ambling into a half-circle about her, Harlan looked up at the sky as if to pass the time. "I mean, we're all animals, right? We've got urges. Can't be helped, really. But I'm not some horn dog, I promise that." Briefly, he wondered why he cared so much that he convince this mare to not think badly of him. After all, he could just walk away, and never see her again. Hell, he could do that right now, and...
Harlan slowed to a stop, hoof feathering the tips of grass that skewed about. For a brief moment, he felt like maybe he was going crazy. He had literally just met this mare, and already he felt some strange... dare he say, ethereal pull to her. She entertained and teased with her gentle eyes, but it was different from the other mares who humored him. It didn't feel as if she were after anything, much less a romp in the hay for a night.
Damn, he liked that about her.
Turning his head, Harlan regarded Matar with a fond gaze, a smile hinting at the corner of his mouth. "Say, this is going to be very forward," he admitted, expression softening. "But what are your plans? Er, in a more general sense... where are you going, Matar?"
Sheepishly, he added, "Peanut and I just walk all over, we've seen our share of things. But it wouldn't be right to let a frail, pretty mare go about on her own, would it? If you're alone, we'd... well, we'd be happy to keep you company."
Yep, he had lost it. All kinds of counter-arguments buzzed around in his head, but Harlan ignored it in favor of trying to gain the partnership of the mysterious mare. Try as he might to come off as masculine and level-headed, Harlan always had been, and would always be, a romantic.
Something about meeting her, here, under the stars... it had to mean something, right?
He was almost ready to believe it, anyway.

Matar shifted her stance some, when he seemed to walk around her. She paused, her head tilting curiously to the side. The compliment to her wits made her grin. She liked to think she was smart. Her tail gave a small flick, the feathers almost fluffing with pride, before settling back against her flank. The compliments were nice; the last person she had met on her travels had... well... been a bit harsh in his ways. She tilted her head to the side, before letting her bright eyes flick up toward the sky. She felt her muscles quiver for a moment, staring for several seconds, before lowering her eyes and stared toward him once again. She laughed lightly, her head tilting to the side, face gentle. "I understand. I've met worse, promise! Nothing wrong with a little bit of light flirting, right?" She smiled at him, before starting forward again, when he had stopped walking and gave her a place to move forward.
The mare glanced around, looking from one star to another, before she paused, eyes locked on a specific cluster. She tilted her head one way, than the other, before smiling lightly, her eyes gentle. Well that was an interesting turn. Her ears flicked back curiously at the sound of his voice once more. She lowered her head enough to tilt it to the side, able to peer back behind her and toward the stallion. She blinked at him, before tilting her head the other way. After a moment, she turned to fully face him, ears flicked up. Well, that was interesting. She never thought anyone would ask her about her plans. Generally she was left alone, and she liked it, at times. Though having a companion would be nice.
"I don't know. I'm just... traveling... Wandering around? I follow where the stars tell me to go." She said, voice light. Matar smiled at him, taking a half step forward before she pondered the idea. Someone to walk along side her? Someone to talk to and help keep her warm at night... She blinked, a slight warmth entering her face, before she danced lightly on her hooves, and then smiled at him, nodding lightly. "I'd like that... It'd be nice to be able to talk to someone who isn't looking to have a quick conversation and then disappear." She mused, her tail flicking behind her.

Harlan had to laugh at that; her little dance was cute. He cocked his head and gave her a look, the corner of his mouth curling upward into a faint smile.
"You think I won't disappear? Everything does, eventually, doesn't it?" He watched her face for a few moments before his eventually dissolved into a lazy smile, and he shook his head. "Haha, just kidding. I mean, nothing's permanent, and I can't promise we'll be traveling together forever, but... I won't up and leave you in the middle of the night, either."
Going by the stars, it sounded romantic. Harlan had always considered himself a wanderer by nature, too, but he never really knew why he was wandering. Was it out of boredom? Necessity? Was he searching for something? Why had he started wandering in the first place?
Maybe he'd been hoping to find answers to all of that, and more. Peanut had always just been along for the ride, but they shared a mutual benefit; Peanut was protected by the stallion, and Harlan always had company on his long travels. Now, though.... now, it was beginning to look like he had been a bit hasty, but he was undeniably eager to have someone new to talk to.
"Well, if you know your way around the stars, maybe I won't get lost as much," Harlan responded with a chuckle, stopping his pacing to look out toward the trees. "You know, I really don't stay in one place too long. Whattaya say we head out? I heard there's a big river past those trees, and you never know what you'll find out there."
He craned his neck to peer at her. "What's it gonna be... partner?"

Matar shifted slightly in front of the stallion, her bright eyes lingering on him. On the way that his markings seemed to dance along his body. She tilted her head curiously, and then her attention was drawn from him. She glanced up and over toward the stallion when he started to speak, and she blinked curiously. Did he not really want to travel? Her eyes flickered some, and she had to think about it before she shifted some and smiled lightly. At least it was a joke. Though they had just met, she didn’t want them to just have to go their separate ways so soon! That wasn’t fun. Her tail flicked slightly behind her, and she smiled gently at him, her eyes soft. She was glad they could travel some, and didn’t want them to just disappear from the world that she was in. She smiled gently toward him, and shifted some to watch the way he seemed to look.
The mare shifted a bit in front of him, letting her eyes flicker up toward the sky again. She blinked curiously, her tail giving a small flick, causing the feathers to shift behind her. Matar tilted her head, and she had to squint some to see what they were trying to say. She wiggled her nose, and after a moment, turned her attention back to the stallion. She smiled gently to him and tilted her head, before nodding curtly. Yes. Yea she was ready to go. Her hooves dug slightly into the ground and she easily tilted her head some to look at Harlan. The mare smiled easily, and let her eyes flicker lightly over the stallion. Going to the river could be very fun. An adventure in of itself!
”Of course! That seems like a great plan. I don’t think I’ve ever been near a big river; just tiny ones.” She said gently. She tilted her head some, and nodded her head, before pushing forward and past him. She brushed against him gently, and sent him a small grin. Her eyes lit up, and her ears perked up. She moved quietly forward and toward the tree break, and the river that he spoke up. She danced almost excitedly forward, her tail flicking some and her head tilting around every so often to look back toward Harlan. She wanted to make sure that he was following. She smiled happily toward him, and nodded her head toward him. ”This way, yea?” She asked, smiling toward the small rabbit ”Mr. Peanut, will you lead the way? I don’t think I can make it there without your expert skills.” She called gently. She smiled brightly at the small rabbit, and then let her eyes linger up toward Harlan.
