Len paused outside the convention center to orient himself and catch his breath. The island wasn't quiet; there were odd sounds here and there, natural sounds and sounds Len didn't recognize. Unbidden, an image rose in his mind's eye of how battered the other group's car had been after the creatures had played with it. What could animals like that do to unprotected humans? Maybe, said a little part of his brain, this wasn't such a good idea after all. Maybe he should go back and follow the other group to safety. If they were even still there. If they'd let him and the others who were with him come back after what he'd said.

No, he wasn't doing that. They'd be fine. They'd make it to the docks, grab a boat, and get the ******** off the island. If they hurried, they probably wouldn't even be noticed by anything. He turned to the others, pretending there wasn't a pit of sick terror opening up in his stomach. "Let's get going."

It's midnight in my time zone and I have to get up early; I'll roll tomorrow as soon as I have a chance, or someone can roll for me~ for now, just getting the thread up so y'all can join in.

Louise once again threw himself against Len. Though this time it was definitely not on purpose, he may have been exiting the dining hall just a little too quickly to stop so suddenly. But pausing was good, a pause was good. He need a deep breath or two or even a hundred right now, before he'd be ready to continue. Louise wasn't exactly sure why he had chosen to follow the scrawny kid of the more official group, but for some reason he trusted the photographer. Or at the very least, the idea of following Len to freedom made him marginally less queasy than the idea of following the yelling man, who didn't seem to know much about what to do at all. 'Someplace safe' seemed like a nicer way of saying lunch meat for monsters.

He took a step back, apologizing to Len again. "Sorry! I really didn't mean to... Where do we go from here?"

Looking back, Louise briefly wondered if Hannah would follow, she surely knew more about the island than they did. But he hovered as close to Len as the other man would allow, frightened, there was no way he was going back inside to see if she was joining them.

Hannah had gotten a bit behind the two others on the way to the exit, but it didn't take long to catch up. "There you are." The smile was more wan than it'd been yesterday, but it was there. "Right, getting off the island-" she thought for a moment, "I'd recommend either them docks, or maybe the helipad - if either of you two know how to fly a helicopter?"

After being sent around the park in a group, there was some trust or herd instinct that led Ian to follow Lenny and the others from his group. In the world outside he had confidence borne of the people he associated with, people who wanted to believe him and who did him a service simply by convincing him of the things he said. It was only here in a complete crisis he wished he could thank the old biddies who had faith in him because they'd honestly let him live his lies. It had to be lies, there was no such thing as magic, no world beyond the real.

Even the creatures in this park felt like something explainable, creations rather than naturally dreamed up - a fact only driven home by the crazy scientist types running around.

Len knew the animals, he had a plan, youth made him ambitious and driven in ways the older man was not, so all he could do was hold on. "M..mind if I come with?" he stammered behind Lenny. "I have to get home." He doubted his receptionist would have remembered to give his overweight persian - the Lady - her special food and suddenly that seemed like the most important thing in the world.

Lou and Ian and the centaur group guide - what was her name again? s**t, Len couldn't remember, he really should've paid attention - were all looking at Len for instructions, and he froze for half a second, panic falling into the empty hole of terror in his gut. Why were they looking at him? It hadn't been his idea in the first place, it'd been that one woman's idea to make a run for the docks, except that then she hadn't followed them and now apparently it was his idea and his group and he wanted no part of this. He wasn't a leader. He was a lone wolf and always had been.

Except that backing down would make him a loser and a chicken, and he wasn't going to let anyone think that about him, particularly Ian; he'd been so proud when the psychic emailed him about his blog, and happy that a man whose work and knowledge he respected seemed to like him and feel that he was worth talking to. He couldn't drop that ball. And maybe Lou was a weirdo, but he was a published weirdo, and it might be good to know him and have his gratitude later, and they were going to need the guide chick's knowledge of the park to get out of here and maybe if she thought he was a capable guy he might have a good opening to get to know her better later. If there was a later. There'd be a later, there had to be.

Talking himself into it had only taken maybe a second. Len puffed his skinny chest out and said, with as much confidence as he could muster, "Okay, let's get the ******** out of here. We're going to the docks. There'll be a boat there we can use to get back to the mainland. We're not pilots, but a boat can't be too hard."

He turned and started striding down the road in the direction of the docks, trying to keep any hint of fear or uncertainty out of his walk. His back and shoulders were knotting up like crazy. He was going to need to call up the massage therapist for an appointment when he got home. Maybe he could invite the chick - women liked that kind of thing, right?

Distracted by his thoughts, he noticed the rustling in the bushes beside the road too late. A long, black tentacle shot out from under the cover of the foliage and wrapped itself around Len's ankle, yanking him forcefully off his feet. He shrieked in a decidedly undignified tone as he hit the ground, hips and shoulders and the back of his head bouncing off the packed earth of the path.

"Holy s**t!" Hannah jumped back in surprise as something black and long shot out from under the bushes and took down Len in a mere second. Was that, had that been--? A tentacle. Definitely a tentacle. And it had Len's ankle in its grip - cursing, she shoved Lou and Ian out of the way and ran to their make-shift leader, stomping down as hard as she could on the damned creature keeping a hold of him. Whatever the hell it was. It was like stomping down on soft rubber, and the slight layer of goo - slime? - on the limb made it somewhat slippery. The creature reared up, a noise that could compete with Len's godawful shrieking coming from the bushes that were hiding its main body. And then it quickly gathered what wits it had and went to smash its attacker in the side. Hannah went down with a surprised little 'oof' sound.

But not for long. Scrambling back on her feet, she turned to the rest of the group, eyes slightly wild, "well, come on, we've gotta get rid of this thing and it ain't going to happen with you lot just standing there! Attack it!" Her side was hurting like hell and she wasn't sure how Len was faring, but there was no time to thing about that now - they needed to do something about this creature, and they needed to do it fast.

This monster wasn't for petting, that was absolutely clear right off the bat. This one meant business and they had no means at all with which to fight it. Part of him wanted to run, but that would mean leaving Len and the others on their own. Safety lay in numbers.

Taking a deep steadying breath, he did all he could and took out his keys with shaking hands and jabbed at the the tentacle with a small penknife. His knifemanship was lacking a great deal and all it earned him was a painful whack from the thing.

Louise had stood shaking in his sneakers, staring uselessly as the creature tossed Len around like a rag doll. He didn't know what to do, he didn't know what he could do. He could barely swat a fly without getting winded, let alone a giant oozing tentacle monster that by all rights, shouldn't exist.

But Hannah's cries jerked him out of stasis, she was right. She was completely right. Drawing on all the dragon-y courage and bravery Lou could muster, he threw his head back and let out a mighty roar, charging head first into the creature and knocking it backward.

Len was actually sort of impressed. Dazed, he kicked his way loose of the tentacle as it loosened, and kicked it again as he scrambled free.

Ian was both dazed and impressed by Lou's display of his inner dragon, and actually found himself clapping in approval until he remembered this wasn't actually a show and they were probably in mortal danger.

He tried. Tried very hard to hit the tentacle but when it came to fighting, apparently all of him was wired due non-violence.

Louise found himself covered in tentacle slime and goo, and in the midst of his freaking out over it, the creature launched him backward, sending him flying past Ian.

(( DRIVE BY MONSTER! Your boss flees, you now have only a Cerberus here. ))

Fluffy had left the building at a trot, idly roaming about until he caught scent of something interesting. A mix of fear, blood, and... ew... it smelled kind of like the cube. The dog snorted and shook it's head a moment before moving along toward the odd mixture of smells at a quick pace.

Before long he found the source, a group of humans with a slime beast. One, that upon seeing him snarling at it seemed less than inclined to play with the oversized dog. Right, because this was HIS new set of toys. He'd found them and they were his now. As he suddenly went speeding for the thing to shoo it off, still somewhat angry over the similar blob on the mountain attacking Layla so much he managed to trample one of the nearby humans in passing. Well too bad for them.

Learn to avoid stampeding Cerberus next time?

Though once it was got the oversized dog glanced over his shoulder at the humans, scanning the group as something interesting tickled his nose. HE knew one of those smells... he...

THAT WAS THE HUMAN WITH THE CANDY! One could practically see the tail start to wag as the rather dangerous canine practically pranced over toward Ian with a happy bark. This was a human he knew, one who'd been nice. Maybe he had more treats!

...so why were they looking at him like that?

Winded, wounded and covered in slime, the ‘dragon’ was not looking his best. It was definitely not his day, and it proceeded to get even worse when a giant dog bounded into the mix, knocking him down again after he’d only just managed to stand up.

“Ouch…” Louise whimpered when he finally managed to get his breath back, and he tried weakly to crawl away. It was a bedraggled sight really, the grown man worming his way at a snail’s pace along the ground, his dragon suit a mess, its poor little wings bent and broken.

Fluffy was only briefly distracted with the familiar human alas. As the sight of something on the ground drew the canines attention and the tail went from a happy 'I KNOW YOU' to a slower wag. This one purely fueled by curiosity.

That wasn't a dragon? But it looked like one but..? The Cerberus literally pranced over to investigate the form he'd just finished running over and placed a paw over the figure to stop it's advances briefly. A bit too hard perhaps. The fact that the humans couldn't retaliate had quickly gotten rid of his trained 'care' around humans. Accidentally taking an arm off one he didn't care about wasn't such a problem anymore He just wasn't doing it one PURPOSE.

He was a puppy. Accidents happened.

So after likely knocking the wind right out of Louise by setting his full weight on him a moment to halt the movements the paw moved again and was replaced with a curious sniffing nose and some nipping at the broken wings. [What are these? Do that work? Why do you have them?] All the human would hear was grumbling and snuffling and maybe a few quiet barks as the Cerberus circled around him, but at least he hadn't gone for any throats?
