Rochelle woke up the morning after Kibeth's first Flight completely alone, face down in her pillow in a puddle of drool. The back and side of her head turned into a tunnelsnakes nest somewhere through it all, her hand hurt, and she had the slightly euphoric feeling of a person that drank just enough the night before that ended with a good sleep.

Granted she'd spent the night alone, door to her weyr locked and privy to her own devices while Kibeth called to a select few. Malcarreth - right. Right. Malcarreth won. She'd not heard C'tis outside at any point so either he found someone to his liking or holed himself up as well. The thought of it being the former situation kicked her in the gut and into full alertness, the glasscrafter lumbering out of bed. They'd not spoken as to what would happen if Mal Chased and she didn't ever see him really talking talking to anyone, no flirtations though she saw lingering glances. Maybe a few of the glances were returned. Maybe he had someone wrapped up right now in a tangle, drooling in their hair instead of a pillow.

It bothered her more than it should.

She grumbled at herself and dressed quickly, a dress with the usual cincher, unknotting her hair with clumsy fingers and a thick comb. One trip to the kitchens later and a quick explination, she had four meatrolls in her side bag and two large mugs of klah. There could be only one way to know for sure since Kibeth remained cuddled and asleep. Rochelle tapped at C'tis' door with her foot - gently at first then a third time, harder.

"Oi! You decent?" 'Awake' would have likely been a better question. Too early to be up. Much too early.

C'tis would contentedly have slept for hours longer if left to his own devices.

He was not left to his own devices.

It was the third kick to his door that properly woke him but it took a few moments for his fuzzy brain to process the voice calling out to him. Rochelle. What did she-

Oh. The flight.

C'tis sat up and groaned, rubbing his scarred face to try to rouse himself and then casting around in search of some trousers. Rochelle was here. Malcarreth had won the Flight. Had she... had she... found somebody? The moment things had kicked off he'd locked himself in his weyr so he had no idea what she'd got up to. Maybe she'd let one of the unsuccessful riders in to have a tumble with, and was now here unreasonably cheerful to tell him how great she felt. For his part C'tis just felt groggy but at least he found yesterday's britches and a clean shirt, he even managed to get them on the right way around.

"A minute!" he called a bit belatedly, rubbing his face again and quickly moving around his little home to tidy up the clothes he'd strewn haphazardly across the floor. C'tis did not consider himself a neat-freak by any stretch of the imagination but dirty clothes belonged in the wash basket. After a moment's thought he stripped the sheets off his bed and tossed those in too before shoving the basket into a corner.

With this done his weyr was in its usual semi-tidy state, and satisfied with this state of affairs C'tis moved to the door, yawing massively and scrubbing his fingers through his hair. Pulling it open he announced. "I'm never decent, it's part of my natural charm. What the shaff time do you call this Rochelle?" She looked pretty. Not done up fancily just... pretty. She'd bothered with a cincher and even combed her hair by the look of it, how long had she been awake? Perhaps she and her hypothetical partner of the moment hadn't even bothered to sleep they'd been having so much fun.

She tapped her foot when she heard shuffling and no verbal recognition that she existed. Blah blah, what was he doing, shoving him or her into his wash basket? Or maybe he had a different way from the weyr. Maybe he just needed them dressed. She couldn't hear anyone else but... who could tell. Eyes even rolled when he finally called out, though her expression brightened a bit when he finally deemed her worthy of his attention.

"I think it's adorable that you have charm at seven thirty in the morning. I brought klah," she offered him out one of the mugs and peered none too discreetly around him ...or tried, the boy pretty much fit the doorframe at this point. "And food. I didn't interrupt anything?"

Rochelle: the master of subtle. At least she had the tact to rush to add, face turning a faint pink. "I mean, if you do, you can have both klahs, I'll bugger off with a meatroll."
PostPosted: Thu May 23, 2013 9:27 am

C'tis scowled, took a mug, took a swig and then stepped back inside, pulling the door further open to let Rochelle come in too. "You interrupted sleep," he grumbled, "but seen as you've woken me up now and brought breakfast I suppose you can come in." It was pretty obvious that Rochelle was looking around to see if he'd had company, he wasn't sure whether that indicated that she also hadn't or that she had and thus thought he might have as well.

"Take a seat," he waved a hand vaguely at a couple of chairs set before his slightly rickety table, setting his own klah down on it before heading around the weyr to open his windows and let in the morning light.

What should he say to her? Their dragons had... and it had been... well, interesting. He was glad he'd locked his door before he got caught up in things, that much was for sure. If he hadn't he probably would have ended up with somebody or other and while he wasn't averse to casual sex... well it was just more complicated now with her and... well yes. Ugh. He definitely needed more klah before he could work any of this out.

"Sleep is better than a naked stranger opening the door. That'd have been awkward," she wrinkled her nose and flounced inside as well as she could with a fully mug. She set it down before pulling off her bag and pulling out the wrapped and still warm meat rolls. "From my vantage point anyway. Naked women are not my cup of tea and I generally like a date before naked men. Have food." She pushed two in the direction of his klah and flopped on to one of the offered seats. One yawn into her hand later and she took a long drink herself.

Bitten nails tapped a tattoo on the surface of his table, her eyes wandering past the light and his shoulders to anywhere else in the room. To keep from biting her lip, she took another sip. "Sorry for lack of a heads up. I've been oiling her a lot - she keeps swimming and it dries out her hide so I didn't notice a shine. Apparently proddy means she just gets more sarcastic."

What else could she say? 'Sorry for not sleeping with you'? 'Maybe next time'? 'What does this twisting in my stomach mean'? Yeah, no. No no no.
PostPosted: Thu May 23, 2013 9:57 am

C'tis grunted, his stock response to something he didn't know what to say to or didn't care to answer. "Well it would have served you right for banging my door down this early," he added to the grunt after a moment, slouching back across the room to flop into his own chair.

Taking a bite of meatroll he offered a muffled; "Thanks," and after finishing his mouthful he swigged more klah. Now what? Had she been telling him through her comment that there hadn't been anyone last night? Why should he care anyway what she'd got up to? He liked her, sure, but it had been a Flight so it wasn't like knowing she'd been with somebody meant she really liked them like that. He still hoped she hadn't been with anyone, and he knew full well how stupid that was.

"And... well it was her first time." Had that sounded awkward and abrupt after the silence that had hung in the air? "So you'll know next time, and you can give some more warning." Yes, that had sounded awkward or it had to him anyway. C'tis ate some more meatroll.

"Yeah, well," she said once he got to his snark. Rochelle picked at one of her meatrolls, small nose wrinkled up. The awkward that hung in the air near choked her, dampening any previous bravado she'd pulled with her from her bedside. He was right after all; she came barging in as the sun rose after a Flight, it'd serve her right for being silly and nosy and possibly hurt. "It's easier than asking if you had a tumble about last night the next time we saw each other and you know it'd have to have been asked because it was a Flight and people do that."

She chewed on the inside of her cheek instead, taking a pinch of the meat roll. Rochelle shrugged again and then snorted. "Or you and Mal can take note of her snarky in three months. She's always sarcastic as anything at me, it's how she shows affection. ...but yeah, I'll try to keep track and tell you if she's getting to act a bit off. I won't barge in next time though. Sorry. It was a jerk move."
PostPosted: Thu May 23, 2013 10:17 am

It had been a jerk move, but he supposed it would have been an awkward conversation to have later. Even more awkward, that was. He supposed it could have been left unasked but... well, yes, it was a flight and a first flight and so something would probably have been said.

After a few more moments of silence C'tis shrugged. "Well, yes it was, but it's alright. Forget about it." He took another sip of klah. "So... is this the part where I ask if you did or not? I never went near your weyr, came here as soon as Malcarreth shot off spouting whatever it was he was saying to Kibeth. I didn't pry."

Shaff. Shaff, why didn't he answer. Why wasn't C'tis spouting the same snark he always did. She'd ******** up. The grumbling earlier had been real and he figured out just how big of a tit she really could be. Maybe even C'tis had limits. What if he couldn't find someone and she just rubbed it in his face and --

Rochelle took a huge bite of the meatroll in order to shut her mind up. She chewed with what could have been called excess force, watching his hands or her food, or taking a great interest in the view outside. Something had to be said. She apologized. Wasn't that enough? Should she leave?

Why didn't he say anything?

And then he did, dismissing the fact she did something stupid rude and moving on. Rochelle drank until her mug only had a few sips left before she answered. "And this is the part where I tell you I locked mine too. No one else came knocking but even if they had i'd probably have hit them. Sicced Sassy on them. I'm past the point of dragging random people about."

So he'd not wanted to? What did that mean and why in all of Pern did she try to analyze it. She'd have taken him in a second by the collar, Flight lust or not. Rochelle never lied when she told him she thought he looked nice. But -

Has it occurred to you that humans are silly creatures and let sex muddle them up? Kibeth murmured. The crimson yawned and flopped closer to her wallow mate, still half asleep. And maybe he has more sense than you.

Go back to sleep.

"Oh." C'tis' very neutral verbal response was slightly incongruously paired by him relaxing a little. "Well, fair enough. First flights, Mercy did go on about how they can confuse you. I figured it was better not to get involved at all than to end up so muddled I ended up with somebody regrettable." That was true... kind of true. Well it was true but it wasn't the whole truth.

If he had gone along with things and she had let him in then.... Well he wasn't comfortable with the idea. It would have been fine if they were friends and he happened to just be physically attracted to her as well but it felt like more than that and that was... awkward. Complicated. Difficult. He'd tried really hard to swear off liking anyone at all ever after that b***h had screwed him over (by screwing that b*****d) but then there had been the revolution and Aleck and Rochelle and friendship and now.... Well yes, now it was complicated.

"Fortunately for you, Becka just Impressed so I can't make a joke about what beautiful babies you'd make," she waved the meatroll at him as if it was all C'tis' doing that the annoying little healer Impressed. It'd have been a wonderful joke too, if only to see what face he made when she cracked it. The wave turned into a mini-salute when she said, "To firsts." and then ate the rest of it.

She fidgeted another moment in silence, a frown slowly forming. Rochelle picked at the poor innocent meatroll, chewing again on the inside of her cheek before she could look back up at him.

"This is shaffing awkward. I didn't think it really would be. We're - we're good, right? Even with the awkward and me busting in?" The second meatroll went into the air as well, her hand demonstrating just how on edge this whole thing could actually make her. "We're okay?"
PostPosted: Thu May 23, 2013 2:50 pm

C'tis choked a bit at the jest and raised his mug to her toast. Becka... he didn't get it, not really. If he held that much bile for everyone that had ever hit him then he'd probably explode from the pressure of it. It was a bit more than just the hitting, he knew that, but it all seemed.... He didn't know, but semi-unprincipled git that he was he was quite happy to take his friend's part even if he wasn't sure that her feelings were justified. It didn't really matter in the end, did it? You felt the way you felt and it didn't always make sense, and if you had any sense you stuck by your friends regardless of whether or not you thought how they felt made sense. That was how he felt anyway, real friendship was worth hanging onto no matter what.

Let him be accused of anything before disloyalty, even cowardice.

C'tis sighed and then gave a crooked little smile. "Yeah we're... we're good. It was just a bit of a surprise and... yes, a bit of a surprise. I'm on your side, regardless of whatever other crap goes on."

"I don't mean my side," Rochelle blinked at him but.. C'tis smiled. That was a good sign. She smiled back, a bit awkwardly, and shrugged. "I meant in general just, you know, us. You're important to me and all of that. Jerk."

The glasscrafter flicked a bit of meatroll at him, just a bit of the crust, and settled back in her chair to nibble. She'd gotten over her murderous rage at Becka for the most part; the young girl just happened to be the easiest target with her snarking and the one most likely to run into Rochelle over time. The urge to punch her still flared whenever they saw each other... well, really, it'd just been a year - a bit over a year, rather. She felt as if she'd grown a lot since then.

"At least surprises come with breakfast? I bet you the riders of other females he chases won't be as nice as me," she sniffed, nose to the air. Maybe not so grown after all. "Klahs and meatrolls and you even had the chance to put on a proper pair of pants."
PostPosted: Thu May 23, 2013 3:19 pm

C'tis consumed the piece of crust in one bite, and then took another big bite of one of his own meatrolls. "Mmfh!" he said eloquently. Once he had swallowed he added; "Well, yeah. I know. I mean, you too. To me that is. And yes, at least you brought breakfast and I was able to find my trousers." What would he do if/when Mal did decide to chase other females? Just shut himself away again?... He supposed so, stupid sap that he was.

"So," C'tis took another little bite of meatroll, "what're y'doing with the rest of t'day?" The harper's usually crisp tones were rather muffled by the food but he presumed Rochelle would decipher what he meant, and was too hungry now that he wasn't worrying so much anymore to stand on ceremony.

"I brought a good breakfast. And.. yes. All of that." She nodded firmly, chewing at her lower lip before forcing herself to stop. Again. No easy way to say 'you're my best friend' with their awkward selves existed, the last night and everything going on. Rochelle kicked gently at his bare feet, faint smile turned brighter, less forced. "Right. Good."

Relief still roiled in her stomach with knowing he'd been alone. It sucked, it was stupid, it wasn't like he'd wanted her. She didn't even want to think about feelings. Usually at this point if a guy hadn't done anything after everything they'd gone through and how she hung on him, she refiled him under 'not interested' and lost interest herself. And C'tis... well, he was friend first. She didn't really want anything if it didn't involve feelings - difficult in the fact she didn't even really know if she had them herself. He'd not indicated anything other than friendship and, really, that was okay. Lust came and went. She didn't want to explore anything past that.

Somewhere along the lines he'd become her best friend and she couldn't remember when. Maybe that was for the best.

"Eh? Oh! Nothing. I sent Sassy with a note to my boss when Kibeth blooded that I wouldn't be in today. I have a stash of them, he knows to go off when I hand him one," She shrugged, elbow braced on the table to peer at him. "You busy today? Maybe we can ******** about the Weyr. Kibeth isn't really up for hitting up Holds but I'm in no mood to be at work anyway."
