Leonard tapped softly at his keyboard, eyes flicking toward the cameras more out of habit than actual vigilance. Once they got the creeps in here, they stayed here until they were shipped off, easy-peasy pumpkin pie. They got their pills through feed tubes, didn't need any medical checks, and none of the handlers needed to bother training the rejects. And who would want to, the creeps were the worst. Sure some of them were just bad eggs that could have gone into the Park if they weren't so out of control, but most of them? Yeeeeeesh. If that was the "power of human imagination" then Leonard wanted no part of it.

He took a moment to wiggle the antennae on the screen, the picture was fuzzy as well and he couldn't understand a good-goddamn word being said, but he didn't need to. Baseball spoke a universal language, one that didn't spawn nightmares. Unless you were a Mets fan, that is. The screen started to flicker, and he grumbled good-naturedly as he fiddled with it. It took a moment to notice that the screens of the security monitors were flickering as well. The light overhead surged brightly for a moment and then everything in the room went dark.

For a few, beautiful seconds, all Leonard felt was irritation. He was missing the game and needed that small bit of respite. Isn't it just so typical that the power would go out on him like this? And where were the back-up generators when you needed them? Then realization hit him, sending the security guard's heart racing and cold sweat beading on his brow as fear began to overtake him.

In the distance, he heard a door open.

Then another.

There's a peculiar sort of silence that can wake a man, used to the amenities of the modern world, up. Most of the time, electricity is just there to the point where you're unable to notice it's soft hum and thrum until is gone. The sudden absence of that sound had Richard Zuckerman up and out of his bunk before he even understood that he was awake. Doing his best to mimic that silence, the large man quickly slid on his kelvar and holstered his gun, not faltering a bit in the darkness.

Stealthily slipping down the halls, Zuckerman didn't bother checking the containment cells, the other staff members, or anything else. Priority numero uno was getting the ******** out of there and then finding out what's happened. He does well in the pitch black, the facility mapped out in his mind, carefully dragging his right hand along the wall as both a spacial reference and once as a support when he trips over something heavy but soft, something best left ignored for now. Something's screaming on the far side of the building, and he's a little grateful to be a fair bit aways from it.

He's nearly out when the wall turns wet and sticky. Still warm too, and ain't that just a kick in the shitter? Hand slipping down swiftly, Zuckerman bypasses his staff remote and goes right for the gun. He manages to fire off three shots before a very human-seeming hand gently slips around his throat and delicately pulls it out.

Those who go left eventually find themselves at a dead end, with only a ladder going up to exit the sewers through a manhole cover. Above, they find themselves in a dimly lit communal shower, silent and empty but for the occasional drip...drip of a leaky faucet. The showers lead to a locker room, mostly empty but for a few small items.

  • 1 pair running shoes
  • 1 tube polysporin
  • 1 kelvar vest
  • 1 set of throwing stars
  • 1 ice pack

A peek outside the locker room would clue a staff member in to the fact that they were now in the upper basement of the containment facility. Do you go further into the building, or do you double back?

Rin had obviously volunteered to climb up first. Her idea to go into this hellhole, her idea to get out when they reached an end. She made her way up toward the manhole and lifted it. Showers..? Well that wasn't too bad, nothing seemed to be scampering around the room. As another shove and the cover was entirely out of her way as she pulled herself up and out. A few useful things were scattered around the room, which she noted before slowly making her way to the door and peeked out after listening.

There wasn't any noise, but...

Oh ******** hell. The door was closed again silently as she held a finger to her lips before looking at the group and slowly slinking her way back toward those who may have come up and keeping her voice a whisper. "This... could be very bad..." She stated quietly, contemplating heading back to where they began with their new supplies. "...very bad." If her voice could have gotten any quieter, it really might have.

Why here of all places? The source of all the worst things? If at any point there was fear on her face, it was now. Because god knew this place held all the worst of the park at once. She could only hope some had escaped... elsewhere by now. "...this is where we locked up what wasn't allowed in the park." She said it slowly, prepared to silence anyone he tried to scream. Because if something heard them... well that could very well be the end. "If they're here. We could be quite screwed." Still, supplies were good. She motioned to them. "Let's... take this and go back."

Any other building would have certainly been better. But this... this was just bad. Anyone in this building when the things got loose was good as dead. If they were around anyone remaining could count themselves about the same. "I assisted with locking some of these up. You don't want to meet them... and there are apparently worse I've never seen." She added, possibly too low for anyone to hear her.

She was willing to pick a fight with a dragon. Not this s**t though. That was how bad it was really.

OOC
Rin votes they take the stuff and run like hell. Because if anything is left in this building they'll die. Srsly srs.

"No notes? Well I was never the type to take them that way either..." she followed the group up the manhole.

[A.V.]

Rebecca wasn’t quite sure where they were, but the reaction of the employee suggested that things were bad really bad. Bad in the several hundred angry elephants were stampeding your way bad.

“I’m not afraid of much but if you say it’s bad, then it must be really bad. Why don’t you grab the vest since you are the one who can best handle these particular monsters.” She gestured back towards the sewers, not inside. Give Rebecca bears and tigers and crocodiles, and she could manage. But dragons and whatever else this place had? She didn’t have enough background information to handle that. “Someone can toss me something. I’ve been out in the wilds before, it’s not the same, but I can be of some use.”

Wayra saw the others going up the manhole, and so dicided that she would go as well, especially when she heard a creak and crash down the other end of the tunnel. Arriving in what appeared to be a public shower finally, she saw her target standing with the group. She finally caught up to Steve! Grabbing his shoulder, she stopped to catch her breath. Before she could speak out, however, she caught sight of the staff member and their group leader holding her finger to her mouth before slinking back towards the rest of the group.

The vet's eyes widened as the woman told them where exactly they were. Her blood went cold. Supposedly there was something even worse that had once been held here? Wayra nodded her head in agreement. This woman sounded like she knew what she was talking about, and if she thought this place was bad news, Wayra would believe it.

"I vote we go back as well", the vet replied in a voice barely above a whisper. "I've dealt with wild animals before, but if you say the thing held here are bad news, I don't wish to test my luck. I can handle the polysporin, I've go some bandages here as well that we can use with it if anything happens", Wayra continued, digging into her bag to produce a thick roll of gauze bandages that she usually kept on hand for animal and human injuries alike.

Remembering what she'd come down this path for, she returned her focus to Steve. "I know it's a bit late, but the kitsune gave me back your camera yesterday. I was hoping it would be under better circumstances, but here", Wayra whispered to the man, handing him his camera.

Steve was racing along the sewer path with the others when he heard someone call out his name. "SHHHH you don't want the creatures to hear you." He learned that from Bear in the dining room no shouting it causes unwanted attention. As they came to a stop at a dead end "What the hell is this all about ." He gives the wall a little kick.

As he watch Rin and another go up the ladder He made his way up after them. He looked around trying to figure out where they were but he's never seen this place on the tour. "Creatures not allowed in the park?" He said with a shakiness to it. "So the things in the park supposed to be friendly but these are....... what the rejects ?" He stared at Rin he knew that if she didn't want to deal with these creatures he sure as hell didn't.
Turning to see Wayra holding his camera out for him "aw thanks." He gave a little smile "glad I was able to get it back..I'll be sure to grab the memory card out of it before I throw it at the Kitsune's head if we run into it." he whispered to himself. As much as a animal lover as he was these where not animals they where creatures, creatures who at this point he would rather attack if he had to then take pictures of.

Myoukin

A small nod was offered to the comment as she quietly made a statement back, moving slowly to the door to ensure it was locked before working to gather the items. "Rejects is a good word. The things people wouldn't want to see, or were not safe for others." That was all she could offer really. Not a lot of information was given to them, she just knew that there were at least a few things in the building(or had been) that she'd helped locked up.

And seen chow down a human in the process of catching it. Or perhaps that alone was the reason they'd been put in here. Eating a handler. A light click as she listened briefly at the door to make sure nothing was wandering past and then locked it. Then off to quietly gather things to hand out. One hand briefly gestured to the scar under her eye. "The ones in the park are afraid of us and what we ca-" A pause as she set in again that nothing was going to work. "-could do." She stated simply, eyes straying to he door once more as she kept her voice ever low. The walls were somewhat soundproof. Somewhat. "These just hate humans with all they have. No amount of fear is any good." She added, bringing over a few of the items to them.

Someone had suggested the vest for her. Well that was fine, she intended to try and keep anything that showed up from them anyway. "That's fine." She stated simply, moving to don the vest and pausing at the throwing stars. She wasn't the best with them, god knew she didn't practice throwing things. Still, it was better than tangling with her fists. So up those went as she glanced to see how sharp they were. "If something comes in, run. I'll fight it. I either win, or I'm a good distraction while the rest of get out." It was her job after all. And she hadn't exactly gotten them somewhere safe.

phantompanther13
Rin says yea, that's fine. She'll duke it out with something if it comes through the door.

It didn't really seem like a great idea to leave the sewers but it was clear they would have to thanks to the dead end. Chris followed the first few up in time to hear there were worse creatures then the ones now loose outside. And worse, they were theoretically in the same building. He felt a shiver up his spine and looked from person to person before settling on Rin. "Does this mean that, with the power out, the worse creatures could leave the building as well?" Could have been optimism asking if there was a chance the monsters had left or it could be worry that the worst of the creatures could leave to harm others, either was a toss up.

Hawkeye was glad to be out of the sewers now. Though, he was soon concerned as their guide apparently thought they came up to a very poor location. Oh. That was why. The rejects were here.

"We're sooooo deeaaad," he groaned.

With a sigh, he looked to see what they had found.

"Uh yeah let's not stay here. I don't want to run into whatever mutated freaks you guys decided to cook up. What the hell happened anyway? Shouldn't there have been something to keep this sort of s**t from happening?" he frowned. In any case, he was going to stick with the group if possible.

As he heard her confirm his fears about the rejects and watched her move to the door and lock it, his heart started racing again. If those in the park are scared of the staff then what the hell has gone so wrong to change that? "well lets make it quick so you don't have to fight anything." He gives a glance up to Rin & listens for any kind of movement outside of the area they where in. As another one of the group members joined them asking if the creatures could leave the building " lets hope they did, sounds like a better option then having them here with us." He glances back at Rin " and a better option for you..I'd rather not have you fight anything and we all get out of here alive." He gives a cold look to man grumbling about the group being dead " Shut up we're going to be fine........., she knows what she's doing, she got us this far hasn't she?" He looks back at Rin with a questioning look like you do right?

She frowned at the comment. "There were a lot of backup systems." She stated simply, glancing toward the door briefly again as she worked to try and get everyone back down to safety after supplies had been gathered. "It would take a small miracle for everything to break at once." Which had apparently happened. She suspected a person had something to do with it. She'd been here for over a year and never once had they lost power to this level.

No. Someone or something had done it. "I'm not sure the full details, but it shouldn't be possible for everything to break at once on it's own. Not without external tampering." She'd seen hiccups sure, but never EVERYTHING breaking. "There were measures in place to make sure this place didn't become a living hell like it is... I don't know if it was a tech with a screw loose or what, but..." She shook her head and went back to trying to get them all in the tunnel.

Staying wasn't an option. The woman would throw them back down the manhole if she needed to. "Some may have left, but I doubt all of them did." Silly guests, suggesting there was only ONE mistake. Oh no... there were many. "If you don't want to see nightmares alive, true nightmares. Get back in the sewers we'll find another place to get out." At least she still had her wits to an extent, even if right that second she wanted to crawl into a corner and cry. Duty called. And that duty said to get the hell out of the containment facility.

Once everyone was down she'd take one last check on the door to listen if anything was nearby, but she didn't intend to open the door again. It was mostly to see if it would be safe to slowly slide the mancover back over without being heard really.

"Oh great. Then we have some maniac running around here trying to get all of us killed!" Chris said with exasperation. He just rolled his eyes at Steve as he spoke up regarding the woman doing well to lead them thus far. They'll have to see about how things are going to go.

"Seriously, who goes around thinking, 'oh we have this place full of deadly creatures. Let's shut down all the damn systems and unleash hell on everyone around!' The world is full of moronic douchebags."

Hawkeye shook his head, then followed the group back out of the building.
PostPosted: Fri May 24, 2013 1:01 pm

Steve couldn't help but let out a little giggle when he heard the words moronic douchebags come out of his group members mouth. "Totally agree with you on that." He gave one more look around the area and quickly climbed back down the ladder. He was a little relieved to be back in the sewer at least he knew down here had nothing that was up there. He glanced back up at the hole waiting for the others to come down.

Wayra tried not to let Chris' words bother her as she took the polysporin and tucked it into her bag next the the gauze wraps. Thinking that this was just an unfortunate accident was one thing, but thinking that someone had intentionally turned this island upside down made her shiver. Wayra walked over towards where they had come into the room and followed the rest back down the hole.

"Moronic douchebag with a death wish, more like. If someone really did mess with the system keeping this place going, they couldn't have really expected to get out of this mess unscathed once they shut the system down...", she mused to the others quietly. Wayra paused for a moment partway down the ladder as a thought jumped into her mind and hope glimmered on her face for the first time since she got up this morning. "Unless they had some method to get out of dodge once things went south", she whispered hurriedly, turning her head in the direction of the one person who could probably answer her next question. "Miss, other than the boats at the dock we came to this island on, are there any other means of getting off this island? Like an underwater tunnel or helivac?"

[Wayra is turning back with the rest of the group]
