This wandering around aimlessly thing was for the birds. Mei-Ling didn't like it one bit, this whole living wild thing. Oh sure she could hold her own, but her thought process was along the lines of 'I'm too old for this...' not that she was, really...but one could perhaps say she was an 'old soul', which could perhaps explain her slightly grumpy thoughts.
Still, at least the weather was pleasant enough. Still, she was wandering about and more than a little tired of sleeping on the open ground. Somewhere a little more permanent needed to be found.
The forest while it was nice...just wasn't what she was looking for. Mei was used to a roof over her head, and such. So she found herself in a city that was far larger than the village she had come from...and in time located a park. It was...an eye opening place!
So much green....and there looked to be little houses...or something with odd bubble shaped windows. The park looked kind of empty, so she made her way over to this stuff, making short work of the steps and went inside the plastic structure looking it over.
"Drafty house...open on both ends..but it's still better than the ground." Mei found a little corner and sat down in it leaning against them, one of the 'windows' next to her, and before long she was warm from the sun coming through it, and dozing off.

Brenny had decided to be the very best, like no one ever was. Best what, he wasn't sure. But he'd heard the phrase and decided it was a handy one. He could be the best of many things. Maybe he would be the best Brenny. Or the best climber. The best slider. The very best at swinging. Maybe he'd be the best son there ever was. The best there ever had been. Yes, he liked the sound of that!
The celebi crossed the rickety bridge that led to the slide. Before the slide though, was a box with bubbled windows. He paused midstep, spotting a mienfoo. He'd never seen one before. He stared for a long moment. "Drafty house?" he repeated. "Silly. This isn't a house. But I have a house you could stay in, if you want somewhere warm and not drafty! I'm sure my Daddy would allow it." He beamed. Surely Connie wouldn't mind! This pokemon was small, and she was complaining of drafts. Was she cold and alone?
"It's okay. My name's Brenny. We can be friends."

Mei, was muttering in her currently half dozed position. The sun was nice and warm on her...but that draft wouldn't do! Still, she was (mostly) comfortable. An occasional 'Drafty...brr...' coming from her.
It was the sound of someone talking...and to her that had one eye cracking open and she looked up, a startled note from her as she found walls at her back, mentally rebuking herself for cornering herself.
Her mind wrapped around what was being said and she blinked. "Not...a house? Are you sure...? It has windows like one...and this city is strange. So it could well be a house." strange...and noisy!
Easing to her feet she looked up at the child curiously. There was something about him.... "I'm Mei-Ling...but you can call me Mei...as for staying with you, I think thats something you would need to ask your daddy." there was a stretch from the Mienfoo to stretch her muscles, and a gentle smile was given to him.
"Friends would be nice, it's been awfully lonely being on my own the last few weeks since my trainer passed away." there was a slight sigh from her, but she wasn't as upset as she could have been. He had been old and unwell after all.

"Nah, this isn't a house. This is for kids to play on. I don't know what it's called, but a house even in the city has four walls! Promise! Hi Mei! Nice to meet you! I'll ask him! I'm sure he'll say yes. I'm sure he will! He's like me, and I used to be a pokemon like you! He let me come stay, he found me in the forest." He beamed at the mienfoo. He never seemed to stop talking for very long.
"...You're all alone?" Brenny asked softly. kneeling to Mei's level. "I'll tell Daddy that too. You can come home with me and we can ask him together. I don't like it when people are alone..." He knew all about being alone. His sister had seemingly abandoned him one day in the middle of the forest after he'd met up with a human. He had spent weeks afterward, searching actively. That was how he'd met Connie. Well, that was, after seeking warmth and finding something to eat.
"I was alone too," he confided. "My sister left me in the forest a long time ago, but my Daddy found me and brought me to his home. So neither of us are alone anymore! I can be your trainer! Then you won't be alone!"

Mei looked around it again, and sort of shrugged. If he said it was a place for kids to play, who was she to argue? The city was more than a little strange to her in the end, so she'd trust his words on it.
Her head was spinning from the excitement radiating off the child, his rapid fire talking. She was used to quiet, and serenity...but then she'd belong to a very old man so it was no wonder.
The soft tone was met with a quiet sigh and a nod. "I am yes...I had a home...but the other Pokemon belonging to my master's family did not like me very well. So I decided it would be better if I left. That was several weeks ago now." at least. Possibly longer.
Though there was a frown and she shifted then to hug the boy. "Thats terrible that she left you like that. I'm glad to hear you have a daddy now sweetie." why yes, this little Mienfoo had a motherly streak to her, and it made her want to hug and comfort the boy...though she blinked and almost laughed at his words, catching herself in time and merely smiling.
"I think in the end, it's your daddy who has the most say in that, but thats very sweet of you to offer. I suppose we should go and find him shouldn't we?" well, the boy was insistent and seemed so excited she hated to rain on his parade.

"Maybe she didn't mean to," Brenny said in vague defense of his sister, returning the mienfoo's hug. "But you know? If she hadn't, I might not have found Daddy. Or met you!" There was always a bright side to things, weren't there? If he hadn't been alone for that short time, maybe he would have ended up alone for much longer, in the long run. If his sister hadn't left, he wouldn't have found Connie. He wouldn't have as many friends as he did now.
Maybe it was a good thing; but he didn't think he'd ever stop wanting to find her. "That means we have to wait, though," he complained. "I hate waiting. It'll be worth it, though, when he says yes!" He was confident that Connie would agree to it. "You're really nice, Mei. Are you hungry? I have a cookie in my pocket..."
He moved to take the cookie out. He offered it to her. "Here! It's good."

"Maybe not. Hopefully where ever she is, she's okay and maybe she had a good reason for leaving you." one could hope anyhow.
"It sounds like you have a wonderful way of seeing the good in a bad situation. More people, and pokemon need to be like you Brenny."
There was a blink though and she looked at him in slight confusion. "What's...a cookie? As for waiting, I don't mind waiting till whenever it is you can ask. I've been traveling awhile, so resting a little isn't so bad."

"Maybe. Last time I saw her, she was mad at me. She doesn't like humans, and I like humans--some of them are scary, but most of them are good. They have so many nice things! Like pencils and scarves, blankets, televisions! And nightlights! My daddy got me a nightlight so I don't have to be afraid of the dark," Brenny beamed. "So humans must be good, some of the time. To come up with all of that. And cookies!"
He hesitated, blinking at the question. "You've never had a cookie?" He asked. "Well, a cookie is kind of like a poffin, I suppose... They're good. See?" He offered the cookie to her. "Try it! It's for eating, and if you've been traveling maybe you haven't eaten. You should."

"Most humans I've dealt with have been very kind and compassionate. I know not all are that way, but I've been lucky." she couldn't help but smile at all he rattled off.
"Ahhh you're afraid of the dark? I sort of like it myself. Being able to look up at the moon and stars."
"I've eaten some in my travels, but I will try a little of this....cookie...so I might know what it is, but I don't want to eat all your food." that just wouldn't be nice.
"I think my favorite human thing isn't so much an object but still a thing. I enjoyed my masters training, he did martial arts...do you know what those are?"

"I don't think we'd ever met one before," he said. "I could understand that fear, maybe if we'd met a bad one when we were younger, but I--" Brennen had been curious. He'd met a human in the woods and had formed an immediate attachment to her. He'd wanted to know everything. What she was doing, why she was doing it; what she had, why she had it--was it alive? He hadn't been able to comprehend his sister's bizarre fear of all things human then, and certainly couldn't now.
"Yeah," the celebi boy confessed, shaking his head slightly. "I don't mind it if I'm not alone. I like the stars, and looking at the moon. But dark rooms--" he frowned at the very thought. "There's no stars. I know Daddy's just a room away, but--" he hated it. The total darkness that engulfed his bedroom every night. It seemed to swallow everything it touched. It changed things, too. The trees outside, Brenny had noticed, became frightening shadows in the night. The floor became a groaning monster with a creaky back. Doors became hungry mouths. Mirrors became portals. The nightlight Connie had provided seemed to keep everything the way it should be.
"Martial arts?" Brenny repeated, blinking. "No. But you can show me!" He did love art. Art meant drawing, didn't it?

"How strange, well everyone has their own fears and sometimes for no real reason at all. Still it's too bad she has that fear." it was just one of those things, and Mei doubted there'd ever be a real answer for the boy that would satisfy him. Still.....
"The moon and stars can be a very soothing thing really, I enjoy going out for walks in the moonlight." it was a good way to clear ones thoughts. She'd never had a similar experience with her mind playing tricks on her in the dark, but she'd have understood his fears.
With a grin at his enthusiasm, she shifted her feet apart, as well as her arms...and began a series of fluid movements. Some punches, some kicks, a back bend that melted into a flip...and before long she was standing still and bowed to Brenny.
"Like that."

"Yeah," Brenny agreed. "I don't think humans are scary, really. Except when they're mean or they cut down trees. Sometimes they have to do that to survive, but not my forest." He shook his head, a firm expression on his face. "I can fix it up, if they ever tried."
"Ooh, you must be a fighting type!" Brenny exclaimed after observing her moves. It was a bit like art, wasn't it? It was kind of pretty, actually--the way she could move so quickly and fluidlike. "You're very good at it," he said. "Maybe you can teach me some of that! I'm sure Daddy would be impressed. Do you think he would be? He'd be surprised! Yay! He likes surprises!"

"Well sometimes they need to cut down trees to make their homes." she'd seen it first hand, but didn't say that aloud. Still she could understand his upset about the idea.
"I am a fighting type yes" she was pleased he had realized this. "I could probably teach you yes, but it would take time. Maybe it's something you and I can work on day by day however if you'd like." well why not? She didn't know if his father would be impressed, surprised, annoyed... but all one could do was try.
