Who: Brad, Luka, and Zul
When: A little before noon
Where: A once beautiful secluded segment in a Durem forest that is now being cleared out
Weather: High 80s, humid, hot

It was silent. Not the pleasant silence that accompanied the start of a day, but the solemn silence that usually came with a standstill in a battle. And, it was a battle. For Luka, it was him against the people that had murdered his tree friends and destroyed his private space. For the workers however, it was just another nuisance that threatened to put them back from their contractual deadlines.

Standing on the bed of dirt washed truck, Tom waited for the static in the walkie-talkie to clear before speaking. "Jim, it's still here. We need to finish clearing out Section B, but we can't make any progress if that thing still there. None of the men want to go in after what happened yesterday." The blonde worker's hand shook ever so gently, recalling what had happened the day before. That white floating torso-ghost had flew in from nowhere, screaming at them. Then, there had been this ball of light that had exploded leaving all of them feeling sick after the initial feeling of rage and fear had passed. Even Tom, a strong, young man healthier when compared to most of the workers, had thrown up after the disorientation had passed. It had been frightening, and one of their older workers had even been sent to the hospital due to cardiac arrest.

The incident had even made Gaia news on the local channel; attack from the ghost they called the segment.

The walkie-talkie let out another burst of static before words carried over. "Well, they just sent someone from the office to see how bad the situation is. Let me know if the damn thing moves, so I can get people out before they get hurt again."

"M'kay." Raising the binoculars to his eyes again, Tom stared at the cause of all their problems. How could that small half bodied thing with the child of a face be the cause of so many problems? There was no way that thing was a ghost either. He'd seen it nearly claw off Mark's face too. And everybody knew ghosts didn't going touching people. How could they touch people when all they did was walk through things?

Luka was seething. He was angry beyond words, and he was also tired. He'd never felt such a strong flurry of emotions in such a short time, and he had also not slept. He'd stayed up all night floating around in the small section of the woods that was left to make sure they didn't try any shenanigans at night. Struggling to keep himself afloat, Luka's wings fluttered in agitation. He didn't want to admit it. but he knew that he couldn't keep this up for long.

Him standing there in that manner, it was all a bluff. The Frei had exhausted the majority of his energy on the ball of light yesterday. And for whatever reason, even though he was in the sun's light, he wasn't feeling any better. If anything, he was feeling worse. Forming his hands into his fists, the Frei let out a frustrated yell when images of the fallen trees flashed through his mind. This was all their fault.

And he would be damned if he let them continue the massacre of these woods.

"And you think it's a Raevan?"

Brad could hear the incredulous surprise in the demon's voice as his work truck's engine turned off, the absence of the well-tended purr dipping them into momentary static silence. Rubbing his clean-shaven jaw, the large man nodded, pushing open the door on the driver's side and allowing in some of the distant sounds of the work that was progressing on the site. "Half body, wings, flies. I remember you when you were less," he responded in his deep baritone, slipping out of the vehicle.

Not to be left behind, the passenger side also opened and closed, Zul frowning over the top of the truck at the Italian man. He never doubted Brad -- it was just one of those male things, he supposed -- but this sounded insane even to him. "You think a Frei hurt all the workers and is the Ghost?" Sounded more like Xiu, he thought inwardly, but he didn't say it out loud, instead glancing towards the copse of trees that yet stood. "And you want me to...?"

"Talk," was the tired response, tucking the walkie he'd been assigned on his hip and walking with heavy footfall across the parking area. "You've the gift of gab and you're in the care of a Lab worker. I would hope that would hold enough weight to reason with the kid."

"And if not?"

"Then we call Alessa's boss in, and that can get sticky. I'd rather resolve this without further media attention." The tall man turned his off-colored eyes to the Sigel's bright blues, a brief flicker of understanding lighting between them. The last thing they needed was more bad press after the whole frozen-Lab incident, and quite frankly, Brad wasn't willing to put his sister back in the saddle in dealing with uncontrollable Raevans. The last one had changed her. Heaving a sigh and inwardly dispelling thoughts of his little sister, he waved a dismissive hand. "I'll try to talk to him but I'd prefer you be there. We're just bad guys right now, I imagine."

Zul nodded slightly with understanding, though he did wonder if it wouldn't have been wiser to send Alex. Brad had insisted on being 'professional about it' but professionalism was one of those weird terms for the Raevan, in that it seemed people used it as a means to do the unnecessary or unwelcome. "You don't even know it's a Raevan, let alone why it's happening..." He would, at the very least, try to base this all on logic. Why it was happening would have been a good start, or so he thought.

"Let's see who we're dealing with first," the man replied noncommittally as he approached a man perched on another truck. By the way the fellow was staring grimly out towards the trees, he could only surmise this was the 'Tom' he'd been advised to be briefed with. With Zul at his side -- and fully aware it could be a shock, but that was the idea -- the raven-haired man extended his hand to the other. "I'm Brad and this is Zul. I was sent from the main office to handle the incident. Can you give me a rundown of why this is happening?" Indigo eyes again flickered towards the Sigel.

And Zul was pleased, both with the introduction and the acknowledgement of his input. The demon crossed his arms, not caring if it made him look mean or unapproachable, and simply stared at Tom with a smile that had no mirth behind it while he was introduced. He didn't offer his hand or any words thereafter, turning his bright eyes towards the trees, seeking anything amongst the boughs to indicate just what they were up against...or, in the worst case scenario, who they were up against.

Tom had been peering into the binoculars again, when his attention was caught by the large man and his half bodied companion. The worker gulped at the sight of Zul. This thing was just like what had attacked them! Hand shaking, he took Brad's own and gave it a weak squeeze. His eyes were still attached to Zul. "N-nice to meet you Brad and Zul. I'm Tom." The man bared stammered out. His eyes were still on Zul, and it was pretty obvious that man was distraught by the Sigel's presence.

"W-well... as you know, we've been contracted to clear out the area and flatten it for that new mall project. Well, the first and second day went by without any problems. But on the third day, we were attacked by some white ghost thing that looked exactly like him," Tom said slowly, fingering moving to point at Zul. "It's smaller than him. But it's got the white hair and spiral thing." The man recalled. "Anyways, it came at us while we were clearing out the trees saying something about killing its friends. And suddenly, there was this big blast of light. Next thing you know, most of us were on the ground throwing up, heart pounding, sweat dripping down our faces. I had the worst feeling of wanting to run away from the spot, but I couldn't move." The worker's words trailed off ever so gently; his stomach churning as he was forced to remember the experience. "After that, most of us ran away as fast as we could. That thing has been here all night. It doesn't look like it slept either."

He held out the binoculars to Brad. "You can still see it. I wouldn't go there if I were you though. One of the older workers, Bill, he actually got a heart attack from that white light. It might try and kill you too. Except maybe him." He added, eyes back on Zul. There was a definitely a flicker of fear and distrust in the man's eyes.

Tom turned his attention back to Brad. "Well, it's about 50 yards away from us. I can either give you a truck or you can walk. But, none of us are going in there with you."

The dark-haired man listened with an unblinking gaze, watching Tom's face both with the story being told and the distrustful way he was looking at Zul. He knew it wasn't the first time someone looked at his Sigel family member like that, but it did confirm his suspicions of just what they were up against. Now, he really was torn on having his sister's presence. He wasn't always so great with comfort and words, but he did have a silver-tongued devil on his side...

Shaking his head, he briefly put his hand on Tom's shoulder. "You and the men have done what you can, and we appreciate that immensely," he said in a solemn tone, "but why don't you and the others take an early lunch?" The man's off-blue eyes briefly flickered towards the trees again. "We'll try to talk to the...ghost, as you put it. See if we can't come to an accord." And he didn't want an army of people the Raevan hated at his back, if he could help it. The less there was to stand as a threat, the less chance of a repeat performance, of so he hoped. "Thank you, Tom. Be at ease, and hopefully we'll have this figured out by the time you come back." Brad offered a professional smile and a nod of his head before he released the other, already walking towards the indicated area. There was no room for rebuttal or concern; there was work to be done, and he'd see it underway.

"So it is a Frei." Zul floated at Brad's side without a glance towards Tom as they advanced, his blue eyes already seeking out the pale form amidst the greenery. It was hard to miss. "But it's not the ghost."

Brad arched a brow in Zul's direction. "You actually have a ghost amongst you?"

"In a form." His sour tone was enough to indicate he didn't want to talk about Eiry. Instead, he extended a hand to put on Brad's shoulder, indicating that he should stop. "Why don't you let me approach first? If he wants answers, I'll motion to you." The demon paused in consideration, his lips pursed. "If it is a Frei and they've that type of power...good things rarely come of it."

Both of the males saw the pass of the Fel Virus memories between them, Brad perhaps more aware than Zul. He was dating the man responsible for keeping the Virus in Frei form, after all. "Very well," he said at length, not entirely happy at the proposition but understanding the necessity. If the Frei was anything like Anya, well... "I'll have Alex on speed dial if anything goes south. You just be careful, okay?" He gruffly put a hand on Zul's bare shoulder before withdrawing, staying in full sight of where the 'ghost' was supposed to be but not so close as to cause threat.

Zul tipped his head in gratitude before spreading his wings, half floating and half flying upwards towards the green boughs. Circling the inner portion of the trees and emerging on the other side, he lowered himself opposite of where the pale Satyr was perched. The Sigel spread his hands to show he was not intending an attack or to subdue the other, floating in place and in clear view. "My name is Zul," he introduced himself as calmly as he had those he met at the Lab, "and I'm here to help."

The Satyr let out a surprisingly savage snarl as the Sigel, only to falter as his delirious mind slowly made out the defining traits of another Raevan. It was an older Raevan, like Lucia, but another one of his kind. When Zul showed his hands in a clear nonaggressive action, Luka likewise straightened up his posture. However, unlike Zul, the Frei crossed his arms across his chest as his amber orbs settled on the Baphomet's face.

"Help?" The word came out of the Frei's mouth, almost as if he were questioning the very meaning of the word. "How could you possibly help me...?" Rather, how could Luka even begin to trust this new Raevan? Just because they were both Raevans, didn't mean a thing. If there was one thing Luka had learned growing up with Elai, it was that the man had made it very clear that not every person who approached you had good intentions.

"Why would you want to help me? You don't even know me."

The Satyr's gaze shifted behind Zul to where the construction workers had once been gathered at. They were no longer there, either gone or hiding, except one. He could make out the figure of a single person. Was he one of those animals? Or, was he perhaps related to this new Raevan who had appeared?

"What do you want from me?"

His eyes hardened on the Baphomet. His gut was telling him that person was neither friend nor foe.

When the Frei's response was a defensive gesture, Zul could only smile ruefully. This was going to be a battle of wills, he could tell.

"That's a peculiar thing say." Tilting his tri-horned head to the side, he lowered his arms to his side, yet unmoving. "If the world waited to know you before helping you, that'd be a miserable life indeed. You don't have to know so much as another's name to extend a hand in good will." The demon paused, looking over the Frei's face. The other looked exhausted and knowing the immense power that was used before, he could only surmise the other was on the edge of unraveling entirely.

He shook his head, resuming his answers as politely as he could. "I don't want anything from you. All I want is to know what you're doing here, and why." Zul moved a hand to put it against the trunk of the great tree, mostly just a show of being at ease despite the predicament. He made no askance or insinuation that he was helping the humans; it was about the Frei, just then, and nothing else. "And, perhaps, if you've concern or questions...maybe I can help you instead."
