Quote: It has been a turbulent year within the Pridelands. The status of the true heir has been shrouded in mystery, as the two remaining children of King Simi have been passed over without clear explanation. Though rumors crop up now and again as to why this occurred, the jarring reality that there was no named heir has set many of the pride members on edge. Adding to the fact that the Mava'Bunda, the band of hyenas that have an unyeilding hatred for lions, attacked the pride and crippled the king. Though the lions drove the hyenas back into their wasteland, skirmishes still occur on the border.
So it came as a mild surprise when an emissary from Prince Hanjari, now knows as Emperor Miandui, arrived with a cub. Rumors swirled around the pride, though the king kept quiet. The cub was held within Pride Rock, and many said it was because he was being tutored in the ways that Pridelanders lived, and getting to know his grandfather. Regardless of the truth, an announcement was sent out to all Pridelanders that he would be formally introduced to the pride on this day.
They stood on the edge of Pride Rock, watching as the lions gathered around on the grass below. Simi sat quietly as he waited, confident in his decision. Later, after the formal introduction, he would walk down to the grass to mingle with other pride members, but for now it was best to have everyone see their future king.
Quote: Some Notes:
Simi & Tau are way up on Pride Rock, and your lions are way down on the grass below. In this RP, there is no interaction with the King and Heir. You are interacting with your fellow members. Not everyone might be happy with this announcement. Conflict of opinions is quite alright, and expected with how many lions live in these lands. There will be a PL-lined cub as an orp prize. Image will come as soon as its completed. Participate! Ranks that are normally earned through rp will be more easily available in this meta, mattering on a) how you participate and b) if you'd like the offered rank. Any age may participate. If you need a jrp for your lion, this is a great way to get one.

Simi's eyes watched as all those he was charged to keep safe gathered below him. He rarely called a formal gathering, as he always appreciated a more hands-on approach to ruling. Still, this was an important moment, and with the many lions that called this place home, standing on Pride Rock was the easiest way to tell everyone the same thing at the same time.
"My fellow lions," he said, his old voice still booming strong when it needed to be. He shifted a bit, favoring his right hind leg, crippled from a hyena. "I have gathered you all here today to formally announce that we have an heir. He is of my blood, and sent here from Prince Hanjari. He will be known to you all as Prince Tau." Simi nodded to the small form next to him, and the pale golden cub carefully walked forward.
His lighter coat stood out against the backdrop of Simi's darker one. Though all the lions below him looked small, the juvenile was amazed at just how many lions lived within these lands. He did not say anything, but instead continued to look around as Simi stood over him approvingly.

Wahabu was one of two members of the recently formed council, though they had not been ostensibly active around the pride so far, he had known this was coming before even the call to assemble was sent out. He made sure that he, too, arrived early- early enough to notice when his great grandson arrived looking almost excited. Hopefully that would be and remain the general feeling of this gathering.
Naturally arriving with her mate, it was Shani's decision to keep them standing somewhere off to the side. She, too, knew what was going on thanks to Wahabu, and thought they would be better off observing more of the group than standing where they might be closest to the announcement. She was very curious how the news would be taken, there had already been plenty of gossip but that was hard to get a feel from.
"He certainly looks the part," she commented after Simi made the announcement, glancing to her mate but not shy of keeping her voice to a level where only he could hear it, "Certainly doesn't seem shy, either."
"You're right about that," Habu replied with a smile, his eyes still on the pair above them. He'd had time to determine how he felt about this but he didn't wasn't sure yet, he simply knew he had to keep an open mind.
Shani smiled and looked back up.

[Oh gods, forgive this post. LOL. So long..]
Dahlia looked to her mother, as she wasn't sure if she should be happy, or what she should feel with such an announcement. She hadn't really kept up on the heir talk, and she hadn't been alive long enough to have been part of the Mava'Bunda incident.. So she was mostly just happy to see the pride thriving. As was her mother, who was staring out at the large Pride Rock with a smile on her face.
"This is exciting momma. I wonder if he will be a kind King, since he's not from the lands." She said, turning her gaze to he rmother.
Bell looked at her daughter, before chuckling and looking back up with pride to the cub that had been named the heir. She had joined after the hyena attacks, and though she had thought that the heir would be from the pride itself.. She found no reason to be against the naming. She had no vested interest in it really.
"If King Simi says that he is a good heir, you should believe him. He's never been anything but kind to us himself." She said to her blonde daughter, leaning over to nuzzle her.
"We are part of history, what a joyous occasion." She wondered where Rangi was, but in this crowd of lions it was no wonder she hadn't been able to seek him out.
"How unfair.." The grey lioness groaned as she looked over at her Cousin. She had always been the selfish one, so it was no surprise that she found some reason to be upset with it. Even if the heir had been from the pride, she would have found issue.
"What on earth makes him so special? Over pridal born lions who would have more claim than he?" She narrowed her eyes, staring at the speck of a cub that was standing, looking down on her.
"A mere cub, and he stands so tall. It's not fair.." She said, feeling sorry for herself as was usual.
"How cruel of you, Illyeria.." Anjelle said as she looked at her cousin. She knew her well, and though it didn't surprise her... She still saw it as mean to judge such a youngster so tough. She had no real reason to dislike the choice in heir, and like Belle, she was rather happy just to have been here for the moment. It wasn't everyday you got to hear who the new heir would be.
"He's but a cub. He will grow into himself. I'm sure." Anjelle helped balance Illyeria. She was kind, and thoughtful. She didn't have a mean bone in her body, nor an arrogant one. She had the patience that came with age, though she was young.
"Give him a chance.."

From the middle of the group, Hari tilted his head back to look up -- up, up, up -- at this revered Prince Tau idling on Pride Rock. Only a growth spurt past being a cub, he still retained the follies of peevish youth: Arrogance. Assumptions. Plenty of scrutiny for those around him, particularly ones that were figuratively and literally above him.
"He doesn't look so great to me. He's not even a real Pridelander."
"He looks like the king," said Kopano, standing rigidly to his friend's right. They'd been in the midst of fending off imaginary hyenas from every which way when the gathering had started. He didn't like crowds, and he wished he knew where his siblings and parents were in the sea of different colors and faces. Unfortunately, he was too shy to bother the lovely Chyou, who was already busy scanning the area for her own brood.
"Doesn't make him a Pridelander," Hari argued.
"He's a Pridelander if the king says so," Chyou told her son.
"He's not to me." To emphasize his point, Hari stuck his nose up. His mother didn't notice.
Chyou simply asked, "Where are your siblings?"
As opposed to an answer, the obnoxious juvenile announced, "I'm gonna get a closer look." Hari would spend many a moment wending his way through the crowd to do so, but his determination was second to none! At least, he thought so.

Eris sat near the base of Pride Rock, looking up to the prince born to be their next king with an expression of resentment and anger. The male was younger, and from outside.
He didn't know the pride and... She didn't think he deserved to rule them. The blue adolescent growled softly, eyes fixating as she knead the Earth. She wished she could rule, but of course, the pride would not support that. They were too in love with their ideal royal line. Too... Blind.
Eris snorted, tail switching, and she simply remained angry looking, staring up and kneading to vent her anger.
"We don't need outsiders to lead us. The heir should be of royal blood amidst our own."
Freyja had spent her morning moving about in excitement. An heir, a male, a king. And he was so young. She smiled as she gazed up, almost dancing.
"He does seem a good age to learn." She danced cheerfully, beaming.
"So exciting. I wonder if he'll lead us fairly." She looked about, beaming brightly. "I hope so..."
Prosperity meant cubs, cubs were good.

Arun had no room to talk when it came to who should be the next heir. He was technically an outsider brought in. He approved to whomever his King thought fit.
His jackal companion, Kituo, rested right next to Arun, clicking his teeth. “Whatcha think man?” He was no lion, who was he to care. If it wasn’t for Arun, Kituo would be living not in the lands.
“I think he’ll be fine,” why have doubt? “as long as there are no rules implicated where jackals named Kituo must leave,” the lion joked, causing his friend to n** at his shoulder.
Purple eyes narrowed at the news. She was not happy at all. Why should the King bring in this…outsider to be an heir? There were perfectly good candidates that had his blood running through their veins that could suffice. This could spell out disaster for the future. And, he was so young too. Prince Tau may look like the King with similar coloration, but could he truly be one? He needed to prove himself.
“Yay Prince Tau~” the lioness scoffed, rolling her eyes. Her voice was quiet, yet held a sarcastic tone to it. Denali inwardly wondered how this would pan out in the future.

The pale lioness nudged her daughter forward to give the young huntress a better look up towards their king. In the shadows of Pride Rock, the mother and daughter sat, both listening to the words of king Simi. This was the first time since Zimran had joined the pride that they had been called together by their king. It was always good to see the royal family making an appearance though. She could not help but smile as the young cub stepped forward.
"He looks like a fine young cub. Healthy with a bright coat. At least from what I can see from here. I worry for the stress of being such a young heir though, especially from some place outside the Pridelands..." She spoke to herself, not thinking of the surrounding lions on either side. Of course she was going to be curious of his health, given her position as a head nanny within the pride.
Lihua sighed on the otherhand. While she was excited to the news of an heir, her first practice hunt had been postponed after the call to gather had gone out. She sat in front of her mother, craning her neck up to actually look at the royal family. She frowned slightly as juvenile lion came forward. He was not what she was expecting from an heir, but really, what was she? The frown dissipated as she head her mother speaking about the young prince's health. He was young and new. Everyone deserved a chance.
Her head turned to a golden lioness who had cheered for the young prince. Lihua's eyes widened, unsure of if she should join in or stay silent for a moment longer. Doubt left her mind as she opened her mouth, letting her out her own cheer, "Welcome to the Pridelands, Prince Tau!"

Normally, Jivu didn't approve of fancy gatherings. He didn't like to be involved in big things than had a lot of other lions in the area. Somehow, he felt like he didn't really fit in with large groups, or indeed anyone. Maybe because he was just such a quiet member of the pride. He watched the announcement with a neutral face, not really sure what to make of it.
He didn't really mind having an heir who seemed to have a mysterious kind of background- he was just glad an heir had been named in the first place. He was sure the child would be raised right and they would make sure he didn't turn into some kind of crazy murderer from the outside world... so was there really anything to be concerned about? He watched the small boy atop the rock, tilting his head slightly to one side.
maybe there was just more to what was going on than he really understood. It wouldn't have been the first time he was left out of the loop. In any case, he made sure to slink into the shadows a bit, so he didn't get in the way of the other lions.
"So what do you think of the new heir, Shangwe?" Asked Sungura, who was sitting on top of his lion friend. Of course, the hare didn't really care about the whole thing, since he was only interested in making sure Shangwe was happy. The politics of the pride were of no importance to him. Well, as long as they didn't ban hares.
He did not want to go back to being potential food.
"I don't know," replied Shangwe, watching pride rock with a somewhat skeptical look, "I suppose it's all a little strange, don't you think? Kind of makes you wonder what's really going on." He watched the juve, wondering what to make of things. Sungura frowned, hoping from his back and onto his head. He peered over the lion's mane, looking down at him so he could see his eyes.
"Are you bothered?" he asked carefully.
"No," Shangwe replied, "I'm a hunter- I just want to do my job and bring food back to the pride. I just think it's interesting, that's all. Anyway, Prince Tau looks like a fine cub. I'm sure he'll be a great king someday. Who knows if I'll even be alive to see it."
"Bite your tongue!" hissed the hare, to the amusement of his lion friend.
This was an insult! Rasha couldn't believe what he was watching- it looked like they were supposed to be welcoming in some strange cub as the new heir with open paws! Like they were just going to be told something and that would be the end of it? All rainbows and sunshine? He refused to believe it. They had to explain things a bit more than what he had offered!
"I can't believe that cub's going to be our new heir," he huffed to anyone who would listen to him, "where does he even come from? How can we be sure he's got any pride land blood in him at all?" It was irritating, to be putting it mildly, to think that anyone could walk in off the rogue lands and just be made heir.
Who was this kid and what really made him so special?
Saniya had no idea what was going on. SHe had never been into the pride lands before and already it seemed as though she had walked into something important. It looked like their was some kind of announcement going on. A new heir? Well... that was nice.
She looked around at all the lion, eyes widening when she saw one grumpy looking male in particular. "Bomvu?!" She yelped.
The dark lion jumped, head snapping in her direction. "Sister! You're here! I thought I would never see you again!"
"Bomvu! Bomvu! I can't believe it! You live in this pride now?" She asked, giving him a fond nuzzle, which he returned in spite of his appearance.
"Yes! I just came here. How do you like it? Don't worry- normally it's not so formal. This is just a big announcement, it seems!" They both laughed, suddenly finding the announcement less than important.
The Hadaya trio watched the announcement with mixed reviews. Sikio and Janga didn't seem too concerned, while Kaimu looked a little on the confused side. "What's wrong?" asked Sikio softly. Kaimu, puzzled, looked at her.
"That's the new heir? He doesn't look like a prince to me, and he's not from the pride, is he? I don't really understand what's going on right now." He sighed heavily, trying to make sense of things. Since he was still pretty knew to the place, maybe he just didn't get how getting a new prince worked. But then again, a lot of other lions didn't seem like they were super pleased by what they had just heard, so maybe it wasn't how it worked normally? All in all, he was one confused lion.
"Who cares?" Janga grunted, the larger lion shaking his mighty black mane, "the king said he shared blood and that he's the new heir- that's all that matters to me. He looks like a nice prince, so I don't think we should be wondering about his background. Not like all of us have the best stories, and we're all trusted and loved, right?" Kaimu looked a little sheepish, and simply nodded at the thought. Sikio chuckled.
"Why don't we go see if we can find dad? maybe we can find out what he thinks about this." They all agreed and turned to head for their father, each one turning the wrong way, resulting in a three-way collision of clumsy genes and stripes.
Shujaa sat with two of her sons, listening to the announcement with a bright smile on her face. How lucky they were to finally have a heir! She had been worrying about it for some time, but it looked as though things had finally started to work out. The boy looked handsome and young, and he would probably grow up to be a very strong, wise king. With the teachings of those around him? There was no doubt about it in her mind. Her sons, too, looked pleased with how things were going.
"Well, that's a relief," laughed Emrey, "it's nice to have an heir at long last! The pride will feel more at ease, I hope."
"I don't know. It doesn't look like everyone is happy with the news," Fentara commented, scanning the crowd. "Do you think there's anything we can do to cheer them up?" He looked to his brother, then his mother, but both the lion and the leopard were shaking their heads.
"This is one of those times where heroism isn't really going to help anyone," Shujaa told her boy, "all we can do is comfort anyone who might want to talk, and let them vent any concerns they might have. We can only hope that time will make them lighten up and warm to the new little prince."
"I hope they do. Being different doesn't mean being bad," Fentara hummed.
"I agree!" Laughed Emrey.
Ganthet wasn't sure he had much of an opinion on the whole matter- it felt like they were all getting up in arms about nothing. So what if the king picked his brood from some strange circumstance? It wasn't like he was trying to bring the whole pride down by introducing a new cub to it.
He hoped for the best with the cub.
Sighing, he looked around, aware that a lot of lions were looking very angry. Maybe some of them would like to talk about it- he was the kind of lion that liked to listen and try to help relieve stress if at all possible. He looked around at the bitter faces, and frowned. Thankfully, it seemed not everyone was upset. He had even heard someone cheer out the prince's name.
Rai was sleepy. She hadn't managed to get anything on her last hunt, and she hadn't seen her children in a while, either. Really, she was just in a very bad mood. It hardly mattered to her if the new heir was from the pride lands or not. Hell, it didn't matter to her if the heir was a monkey right at that moment.
She just wanted to go back to her den and try and relax for a little while. Maybe get someone else to get her something to eat. Though... it seemed like very few were interested in hunting right at that moment.
"Can you believe it? A new heir! And someone we don't even really know anything about!" hummed Orlan, looking at the other lionesses she had gathered up with. None of them really knew each other that well, but gossip was gossip. They all had their own thoughts to get out.
"I know! Isn't it exciting? I can't wait to see what this young prince is like!" Laughed Nyamafu. Frigga scoffed.
"How can you be so jovial about it? We don't know what this means! This could all end up going horribly wrong down the road!" She glared at the other two, obviously not in high spirits about the announcement. Orlan gave as best a shrug as a lioness could.
"I think it's good to have a bit of mystery in life. Anyway, Prince Tau looks like a good boy. Look at his cute little smile!"
"Yes!" Agreed Nyamafu, "what an adorable little cub! I just want to go up there and give him a cuddle! Hooray for Prince Tau!" She yelled loudly, grinning from ear to ear. only a nudge from Frigga calmed her.
"You're both too foolish! This is going to come back and haunt us, I promise you that!" She growled lowly, looking more than serious. but the other two only laughed.

Near the front of the crowd hovered Amira. She had no opinion on the little prince personally, but the scandal surrounding him? Oh, yes! King Simi passed over his own kin in favor of another, and try as she might, Amira couldn't resist gossiping about it. Though for the time being it consisted of only one vague, unanswered question: "I wonder why?"
The inquiry was directed to the east, the side Alake occupied. Even if Amira hadn't been the type to revel in celebration and hearsay -- both of which the little prince would be subjected to, she was sure -- she would have been grateful for this event. For any event that was sure to distract her mother from their troubles, if only for a moment.
"His children may be too spoiled."
The past few years had not looked favorably upon Alake. This day was different. She was not only happy but proud to be present for the occasion. Things like this helped promote comradery; whether they disagreed on the reasons for it or not, everyone was together.
If you asked her, the prince was adorable. Those eyes. Those markings. Just lovely! He would be a good king, she could tell. A mother always knew, even if the youngster wasn't of their own flesh and blood.
She smiled over to her only son, not of her flesh and blood either, but her son just the same.
Konja certainly had no place in political matters, nor the sense for it. He rarely stuck his nose where it didn't belong and thus he knew next to nothing about the going-ons involving this new heir. What he did know -- that the youngster was not of the Pridelands himself -- left him feeling sympathetic to say the least.
"He'll have a long life ahead of him trying to carter to so many," Konja noted.
"It will be a good life!" Amira chirped. "I'm jealous!" Then she shouted up to their royalty, "Long live the king!"
