When Rory first got his hands on the place, it was a modern and fashionable art museum. Well, that didn't appeal to him much at all, so as time progressed, he gradually began to collect things that just interested him -- mostly things with historical significance. Twenty+ years later, and the outside of the building is deceptively modern, the large windows blocked with large blinds to conceal the inside and to prevent sun damage. Inside, the art has been placed away in one obscure corner, the rest of the small museum filled with tables and haphazardly placed objects, ranging from old rocks found around the island, to old pottery, stuffed mammals, and dioramas from all over the world. The second floor houses an observatory, and there is a star show every thirty minutes -- an hour, if Rory ends up going off on a tangent.

Summertime was the best of times and the worst of times. It left Lyra feeling excited and happy to be out in the sun, but it also left her without much to really do. Even now that she was out of school, Summer's didn't offer much on its own. That was why, on a particular summer's night, Lyra could be found approaching the Museum. Sometimes, under extreme circumstances, she would visit the request board in town and try to find something to do. Usually it was stupid people with stupid requests, so she hardly ever did any of them. This time, however, she had found one that caught her eye. Some sort of disturbance was in the museum. She had only been to the museum a couple of times, always with someone else who was far more excited about looking at all of the old junk. But now, she was coming to do something that sounded remotely fun. Maybe they'd stumble upon something scaaaaaary. The thought made Lyra scoff as she approached the doors. She wasn't here for the scare, she was here for the thrill! Although she wasn't sure what she would find, it'd be better than listening to her father singing while he made up some weird kind of cake.

She approached the door and tried the handle, just to be sure. To her surprise, the door came open. Huh, apparently she was supposed to just barge on in. So in she went, adjusting the bottom of her purple dress to make sure that it wasn't riding up on her again. It was rare that she wore a dress, but today was a special occasion. Today, she was playing a role. A role that was based entirely on an American cartoon that her dad and aunt had shown her. Today she was Daphne. Unfortunately she didn't have any wig that she could wear, but she did have a headband! And a purple dress that didn't quite resemble it at all vaguely resembled the one she wore in all of the shows. She even had some nice purple shoes and had found a green pair of her father's socks that she had tied together and roped around her neck. They were long enough to resemble a scarf with his massive feet. Now in full costume, she was ready for any sort of foul creature now. "Hellooooo?" She stepped a little further in to the building, not seeing much with most of the lights out. "I'm here to help with the disturbance?" She took a few more steps, casually looking around the place as she did so. It was still as awfully boring and odd as she remembered, even with the lights out.

The museum was both a place of fascination and displeasure to Xochiquetzal since she first found herself waking up before it a few years ago. It held the history of her island and people, the tribulations that had occurred, and so much that she had only glimpsed in dreams before – or so she believed, it was hard to pinpoint whether she had had those visions before or after she was employed at the museum. But, that aside, there was a problem with the place that she couldn't help but want to fix on her hours off. There was no depictions of her past self anywhere and most of anything relating to the spirits she knew to exist were implied to be mere folklore and not the facts it was! It was frustrating that she would be disrespected in such a way, so Xochiquetzal aimed to restore the history of the island the way it should be presented.

With Rory not having shown up to work for a few days, it had been easy enough to come in with a box of chalk and begin scribbling herself on the walls with the spirits she had cone across a few days prior. She had just gotten the cloud-lady's soft, soft hair correct when a voice sounded throughout the museum. She dropped the chalk and, before it could break on the hard floor, she shouted, “Those who trespass in Her domain will broil in hot oil and be devoured by Her children!” Her clothes jangled with the shiny objects she enjoyed hanging about her clothes – jewelry, mostly, and some bird toys from the local pet store – as she stood to observe who had – oh. Purple. She left the shadow she had been working in to step over to the purple-clad girl. It was a sign, she was certain; purple was the iconic color of the Goddess.

...You.. may be permitted to stay..” She muttered as she set her hands on the dress and felt the fabric – yes, it was definitely holy garb. She hummed, pleased with it before stepping back, “........Disturbance..? What.. messenger bore such news to you..?” She didn't think it was possible for a mere mortal to be aware of the unholy disturbance! Perhaps she was a sprite? She had heard of them before..

Lyra had took a quick step back when she heard someone shouting, not sure where it was coming from or what in the world they were talking about. She soon heard a strange jingle after and watched as a young woman appeared. She seemed quite odd, the way she dressed, the way she talked, but Lyra was not one to judge with a pair of socks tied around her neck. She simply smiled at the woman as she felt the fabric of her dress, obviously something she approved of. That was a good sign. They were quickly becoming friends! Not that she was really here for a friend, she just wanted to see what was happening in this crappy old place. Her eyes trailed along the walls, trying to see if there were any signs of some ghost-y thing like ectoplasm or wisps of light. Her attention was then drawn back to the woman as she asked a question. "Oh! I saw a message on the request board in town there? Were you not having any problems here?" She stepped past the woman and traveled the path deeper into the museum.

She trailed her fingers across the wall as she walked, attempting to get a better feel of the place. "It does seem like there's something a bit off here." She stopped on her heel and turned to look back at the other woman. "I'm Lyra, by the way. I'm not much of a professional, but I have had experience with possessions." This would have been a perfect moment for the thunder to crack, but unfortunately there wasn't any to be heard. So, she simply crossed her arms in front of her chest and smiled over at the woman. Surely she wasn't just going to throw her out. She had a job to do. A job that her detective outfit and her past experiences with Alfred, the deranged rabbit, were perfectly going to help.

Ah, right.. right, she had forgotten about that, to be honest. Xochiquetzal wasn't used to her glue-splattered paper airplanes to actually find their way to the right location, however much magic she channeled into them. The Goddess was certainly on her side that day, which could only mean that there truly was an evil to be found within the museum. She glanced up at the ceiling as if she could spot it lurking over them, but it was just a plain old ceiling with nothing but a small window to let in light. If there was any. The moon was but a sliver and couldn't give them much more than what the one light at the entrance had already done. She looked back at the bluenette and raised her brows in mild surprise.

"...I do not have.. a name. ..You may call me Her.. Vessel." She held her head high, proud of her status above the mere mortal, "..You have had experience with these.. possessors before? You must be.." ..Very weak.. Good, then perhaps she could get possessed by the evil and walk out with it. Wouldn't that be nice? "...Bravery is rewarded by Her." She was about to lead her further in, but a thought struck her. She stared at her biceps, "...How.. strong are your arms..?"

Following suit, Lyra too looked up to the ceiling trying to find what exactly the other woman was looking at. She then turned her head back down and listened to her speak. The way she spoke was so interesting that she felt like she could just listen to her talk all day. Her interest also came from the fact that Lyra wasn't able to get much of a read on this strange woman and that was something that she didn't particularly like. She always liked to get the upper hand in any conversation, and this woman was just too odd for her. In fact, she was absolutely certain that she had never quite found anyone like this before, and in an odd way, it was a bit refreshing. Don't have a name? "But... I know your name already. Aren't you Xochiquetzal? Well, unless someone else put up the request. Did someone else put up the request?" She thought that it might be possible, but somehow found it unlikely.

It wasn't really all that important and in hindsight, she didn't much care. If this woman wanted to be referred to as a vessel (wasn't that like a ship or something?) then she would just go along with it. She didn't figure she'd see much of this woman, if ever again. "Not that it matters either way, umm my arms? I guess they're decently strong. I sometimes work out with my dad." She flexed her arm, looked at it and shrugged. It wasn't anything to brag about, but she didn't imagine that there was all that much she could need strength for. What did any of this have to do with the haunting? She was starting to feel as if she had been duped into coming to the museum for some manual labor and that was not okay with her.

How – how could she possibly know the name bestowed upon her by the wisest of the wise, her pseudo-mother – Freja von der Bach?! Xochiquetzal's breathing had picked up for a moment and she felt the sensation of sleep begin to creep out of the corners of her mind when logic decided to calm her for her. She had written the name on the request, as the form had required of her. She relaxed and nodded at Lyra, “Some.. call me by that name.. I suppose it's.. acceptable.” Though she really preferred 'Her Vessel'. It would have been easier to pretend Lyra didn't think she was crazy, but Xochiquetzal just had to remind herself the Goddess always punished those who didn't have faith. She looked away – the Goddess put up the request, obviously, but Lyra was weak in mind, so... “..Mortal comprehension.. would be incapable of handling the answer.

At least she was strong in body. Xochiquetzal walked forward and lifted her arms up as she prepared for the woman to carry her, “....If you.. carried me, the spirit will believe us to be a.. fellow and.. appear to join its comrade.” A lie, but Xochiquetzal really enjoyed being carried. A lot. She deserved it, especially if her status meant she would one day have her spirit consumed by the Goddess and her body stolen away from her. Not that she minded that fate very much, but it would be considered a sacrifice by most and thus excused her whims in the eyes of mortals.

This b***h was ******** cray cray. That small bit of intrigue that Lyra had felt had been whisked right out the window at the mention of carrying this woman. Sure, she had some muscle, but she couldn't just lift a dead weight like that. This woman didn't look heavy or anything, but still! There was a limit to what she could possibly do, and this was all assuming that she was perfectly okay with it in the first place. In fact, she absolutely was not okay with that. What was she even talking about? Mortal comprehension? Did that mean that she thought she held some sort of intellect over her? That thought was not even worth entertaining. If this woman was simple enough to think that, she'd just have to show her different. Despite how much she desperately wanted to reply, she knew that words would simply be lost on this woman. The thing of importance now was finding a way around carrying her. Since there was a small chance that this odd woman did know what she was talking about. She did seem to be in touch with the other side but that could be explained by how odd she was.

Lyra sighed and uncrossed her arms. She had come all this way. She might as well put forth some effort. "I'm not lifting you up like that. If I must, then you'll just have to hoist yourself onto my shoulders, vessel. But, if you don't mind I'd really like to talk about the haunting?" She stepped forward closer to the woman and dropped down on one knee and leaned onto her upright knee to get the best angle for the girl to climb on. Vessel was a reasonable amount shorter, and so Lyra assumed that she would have to bend down as far as possible to actually get her up there. If this would get her through this awful talking phase faster and into the haunting!

The girl frowned softly as she was told no by the women, even after she had obviously informed her of her status over the mortal! But, Xochiquetzal's mood couldn't help but lift back up at being referred to by her title – Vessel.. Ah, yes, she enjoyed a mortal who knew how to address her superiors very much. She decided that practicing a rare moment of compromise would be fine – besides, she would be even higher if she sat on her shoulders than if she were carried by the other's arms. So, she nodded once in acceptance before carefully hoisting herself up on Lyra's back, squirming until she had herself secured onto the woman's shoulders.

..Prepared for take off.” She informed her with a light tug of her hair. Now, to speak of the true reason why they were there after dark – not for crayon drawings on the walls or to get piggyback rides, but to guide a lost spirit! “Yes.. If you were to.. bring us to the observatory, mortal.. That is where the.. spirit made its presence known.” She lowered her voice to prevent the surely listening ghost from overhearing, “I believe it to be.. malevolent.. With a.. sacrifice, we may.. draw it out and.. communicate.

Lyra hadn't fully been prepared for the weight of Xochi on her shoulders. At least not as much as she had planned that she was. She slowly straightened herself up and began walking forward, glancing up occasionally to make sure she wasn't losing the other girl. She didn't much like that her hair had been touched, but she was so done with all of this that she figured some minor suffering would probably be just fine. It wasn't as if whining about it would help anything. She'd just have to hear some more weird talk about her being the inferior person here. "The observatory? Sure." She continued walking along, listening to the girl and occasionally rolling her eyes as she continued to think. She was a bit happy to have this girl out of view of her eyes, even if this wasn't the most comfortable way.

It wasn't until she heard sacrifice that she stopped in her tracks and looked up at the strange woman. "Vessel... You... you aren't talking about me, are you?" She was still holding on to Xochi's legs and looking up, attempting to see her face. She didn't want to let her weasel her way out of it and feared that that might very well happen if she couldn't see any facial expressions. This day was just gradually getting worse and worse. She'd almost trade staying home and listening to another wonderful dad rant than be here. If push came to shove, she was pretty confident in her abilities to take this girl out. However, her back was starting to tighten and her legs were feeling weak and she no longer felt so good about all of this. All she could do was hope that she wasn't the sacrifice. Or maybe hope that she'd get some surge of power when her life was at stake. For now, she decided it'd be a better idea to keep walking since Xochi wasn't getting any lighter and she was pretty sure that she had just spotted something moving up ahead.

Xochiquetzal clung onto the girl's shoulders as she rose, frowning as she noted just how.. not high they were. Also, her lack of rocket-launching noises made her just a little peeved, but she quickly got over that she found herself somewhat enjoying viewing the museum from a new height. Now, if she could enlist this mortal to come more often, she could begin her scribing on the ceiling – Rory would certainly be pleased when he returned to see what she had done with the place. She hummed with a small sense of delight at imagining pleasing the elder male, but that was quickly squashed as she reminded herself that, no, she was a soon-to-be Goddess and shouldn't feel anything in regards to pleasing someone 'higher' than her, unless it was the deity herself. Her mind forced back onto the correct thought process, she focused her attention on the mortal below, who had apparently figured out.. alarmingly quick what her master plan was.

Was she so obvious or was this girl just paranoid? Either way, Xochiquetzal quickly pulled her head back as the girl struggled to look up at her face. Not that there was much of an expression to be seen, but her brows had moved just enough that it may authenticate the girl's inkling. Rather than risking that, Xochiquetzal decided on slowly edging herself further back until she nearly lost her balance and had to squeeze her legs around Lyra's neck along with grab onto a nearby railing to keep herself up. “.....It,” She started as she looked up at the stairway that lead to the observatory, the railing of which being what had helped her maintain balance, “would be.. suggested.. that, sacrifice or not, you would not make such accusations while.. I am being carried.” As she ended that sentence, she slowly relaxed her legs and registered that the few lights had flickered with a loud thud sounding through the floor above.

Lyra was certain that she heard a hum coming from above. That just made it all feel so creepy, like she was enjoying this far too much. Perhaps that fear lit a fire under her, as her legs now felt surprisingly stronger. The steps were sure to be a bit tougher, but she was willing to chance it. She started a bit wobbly on the first and stalled for a moment to listen to whatever Xochiquetzal had to say. It was sure to be some stupid excuse, but she wanted to hear it regardless. Wait. What? Sacrifice or not? What kind of an answer was that? She instantly felt a little uneasy with the girl's response. Sure, Vessel had almost been dropped onto the ground, but that didn't mean that she needed to be so vague in her answer. This was a very serious matter. Her life could be at stake! She managed to make it up the stairs before she lowered down and waited for Vessel to get down. "C'mon. The Lyra Express has arrived at the station. Get off." Xochiquetzal didn't look like she was going to be so heavy, but man was her backing killing her now.

Plus, if she was no longer carrying her, then she could accuse again, right? Hmm, no. It seemed pointless. She obviously wasn't going to tell anything. It would be much better if she just went straight for the point of all of this. They just needed to do what they came here for and then get the hell out. This outing had somehow turned wrong and Lyra was quite certain that she never wanted to see this weird girl again. "So, where is this disturbance?"

Oh, goodness! Where was he? He knew perfectly well that he wasn’t supposed to leave without a chaperone! Who was she talking about? Her pet walrus of course! The poor baby was left all by itself because apparently his mother got drunk or something. At least, that’s the best background Kasie could come up with as to why the little well, he wasn’t really little thing was all by himself.

She had been spending the past few hours, jogging around the whole island in search of Waldo. Goshdarnit! She didn’t mean for his name to be so ironic. She cupped her hands around her mouth, shouting out. “Waldo! Where are you?! You better come out because you are in big trouble, mister!” No reply. It was to be expected, but still, a girl could try! Kasie continued on with her search, only to pass by the museum and pause, because she was pretty certain that those doors weren’t open before. No! Waldo! He wasn’t supposed to trespass into private property! She immediately bolted inside, hoping to find Waldo before anyone else could.

.:l Beep l:.

Play! Play! Play! Waldo snuffled and snorted out with excitement as he explored this new area. He knew it was his bedtime and all, but how could he resist the urge to find new things? Especially in the dark! Too dark! Can’t see! He had entered some building and even managed to flop up the stairs of it! So proud! Very proud! Yes! Yes! Yes! Of course, he kept bumping into things in his nearly blind vision. Crash! Bang! Owie! He whimpered, but he was a big boy. He could pull through! And so, the baby continued to shuffle through the observatory…

(( OOC: I don’t know. ;~; FEEL FREE TO USE WALDO AS YOU PLEASE. HE’S LIKE AN NPC THINGY. Also, I can always delete the post if you don't think it's suitable. Sorry for intruuuuuuuding. D8 ))

Xochiquetzal frowned as she was 'ordered' to get off. She gave a pointed look to Lyra's chest after she climbed down, but refrained from pointing out that the girl obviously had experience holding objects heavier than her and it probably wouldn't be a problem to continue to carry her. No, Xochiquetzal knew better than to bring up a fact that would end up in some sort of comparison on her chest size to Lyra's, not that she cared because it was a pointless trivial thing for others to get at all haughty about, she didn't care what the mortals thought.

She shut her eyes and took a breath, trying to control herself before she got too worked up and passed out. Doing so, however, only allowed her to hear better, which made the crash of a nearby object that much more apparent. She snapped her eyes open and looked around the pitch black floor, frowning as she tried to locate the source of the sound. That.. didn't sound like the spirit she had been hearing. Nor did those speedy, erratic clacks downstairs.

That.. That is not..” She started to mumble in surprise as she carefully stepped back towards Lyra, completely calm in the strange circumstances and not at all frightened because she was totally in control. “..It is.. over there, but.. Have we.. angered them..?” She looked up at Lyra before realizing asking a mortal was completely inane. “Come. We must.. locate the, ah, source.” She let go of Lyra's shirt – When had she grabbed that? – and started forward, casting a wary look in the dark as the odd thuds continued to echo throughout the seemingly empty building. She kept her back straight as she marched to the observatory's telescope, where she had initially felt the mysterious presence.

Here. ...Have you come in the traditional garment?

Lyra was happily standing upright now and had her arms crossed in front of her. This was taking so much longer than she had hoped that it would and it wasn't even remotely interesting. So far, she had played taxi for some very strange girl and now she was being clung to. Sure, that awful sound had made her stiffen, but the immediate reaction of this short little woman had made her scowl her way back to reality. No way was that a ghost. It sounded like a rodent or something. As the noise grew louder, she realized that there was no way that that could be a rodent. The ******** was that?! She stalled for a moment, half wanting to just pick this girl back up and toss her at whatever it was, but that wouldn't be nice. She took a deep breath, pulled her dress down and took another deep breath. She liked to think of herself as this cool, hardass b***h but dammit it was dark and she really didn't want to have to go over there and see something scary. When Vessel started to walk away, she felt a teensy bit more nervous than before. Sure, she hated that the girl had clung to her, but it was kind of comforting to know that she wasn't alone in the dark with whatever that was.

She took a final deep breath and slowly walked closer to the stairs. Her body was telling her to just follow Vessel over to the telescope, but she just needed to do this. She needed to prove to herself that she was brave enough to handle this and dangit dangit dangit what was that shadow?! That was definitely not a rodent. That was much too large. She stopped and kind of stared at it for a few seconds before she was able to convince herself that it couldn't hurt her. She took another step. Then another. Then another. She was finally able to see just what this thing was. "It's just a stinking walrus!" She screamed over to Xochiquetzal who was currently doing goddess knows what. All of this trauma to her heart and it was just a stupid walrus? She rolled her eyes at the little thing and walked by. It was long past time for her to leave and maybe she would send a prayer to the goddess of her own tonight. A prayer to be sure she never saw this weird girl again.
