Given the way that the first spar had gone, Athene wasn’t really sure what his next match would bring, noticing that this time round he appeared to be paired with someone called Shangri-la. After Maia finished announcing the second round pair-ups, he looked around the hall, reading the name stickers that it seemed they’d all ended up sticking somewhere on their outfit (Athene’s own one was on his brooch). He finally ended up in front of a red-haired page “Are you Shangri-la?” he asked quietly.

Shangri-La nodded when the other approached him trying hard not to frown at being paired with an eternal, thinking it meant he would likely have his bottom handed to him again. He hadn't seen the battle that was essentially a failure between the Pomona and Athene, so he couldn't use it as a confidence booster.
“It's nice to meet you,” he said politely, “you're Athene then?”
He straightened up slightly trying to appear, subconsciously, more ready for the next spar than he actually was. One would think with all the training he received from his sister, the one running the little training session, he would have more confidence fore he could actually fight, even well if he'd just let loose a little.
“Shall we get started?”

“Yes I’m Sailor Athene” Athene told the Page quietly with a nod “And it’s nice to meet you too Shangri-la.” He nodded at the other’s question, “Yes I guess we should” he agreed, noting that the Page seemed to look quite confident about the whole thing. He watched to see what Shangri-la would do first, not particularly wanting to be the one to make the first move.

Salior Athene, he noted mentally, in an attempt to remember the name. Part of this whole training exercise was meeting other's. They were allie, that's what Maia said. Allies in this war and the more allies you had the better off you would be. Or at least Shang hoped that was how it worked. That is how it seemed.
He moved to take a stance opposite Athene and watched the other briefly to see what he would do. Athene seemed just a reluctant as he was to make the first move, or maybe he was like Maia, who preferred her trainee to make the first move, more often than not.
Standing there would get them no where, so he decided to go with his gut and just start. He made a jump a Athene throwing an open palmed hit at the other aiming for his hip to unbalance him slightly. It it worked he would swing around to kick him in the side and hopefully send the other toppling over.

The Page was faster than Athene had been anticipating, open hand swinging out at him. Swinging his arm down as he'd been taught, Athene attempted to block the taller Page's hand, although as he did so he knew it was a sloppy attempt at best. He'd been a too slow to react however and ended stumbling back and into Shangri-la's follow up kick. Athene didn't even try to stop himself from tumbling over, instead he tucked his head in and let himself fall backwards into one of the breakfall moves he'd been practising, a small part of him gratified that he managed to get it right. He didn't try to stand - not just yet - instead Athene reached towards one of Shangri-la's legs in an attempt to return the favour and topple the Page over in turn.

Shang was a bit shocked that the move had actually worked. It's not like he never saw it used properly or never used it himself, but this was the first time it was successful and it made him feel just a tiny bit proud.
Athene seemed to quickly recover and Shang had to complement him on it, "great recover," he started only to find one of his feet pulled out from underneath of him and landing hard on his bottom. He had to curb the instinct to kick Athene in the face and instead took advantage of his length to lean forward and aim a good hard slap at Athene's shoulder.
He was tempted to grab hold on all that hair on the boys head to yank him off, but only briefly as he figured it wouldn't be very sportsmanlike in a spar and he wouldn't want to have the favor returned. He could help to frown, he was terrible at sparring. He help back, a lot.

Athene tried to block as Shangri-la swung out at him, it felt smoother this time round, but it was no guarantee that it would be successful - after all Athene knew that he was nowhere near Mr Green’s league. If able to successfully block Shangri-la's hand, then Athene planned to swing out with his other hand, his intention to try and make the taller Page move back so he could have the chance to scramble to his feet. After all even though it was just a spar, Athene had learnt (the hard way) that you wanted to get up from the ground as soon as you could. Ironically the idea of yanking on the Page's hair wasn't one that had crossed his minf - probably because it was just a spar.

Shang found his hand blocked and then found another hand headed for him which made him roll away not wanting to gain another blow when he could avoid it. Once on his stomach he pushed up quickly and backed away from Athene. He knew in a fight against the enemy he should take advantage of his opponent needing to recover, but during a spar, he didn't think it would serve the other to well for the spar to end to quickly.
He looked at Athene and gave a nod, asking in a way if he was ready to continue.

Athene hadn't been sure whether the move would work, after all despite the fact that he'd been practising he still wasn't the greatest of fighters. A part of him felt happy though when Shangri-la rolled back - made him think that some of that practising was finally paying off. Taking the chance, Athene scrambled to his feet as quickly as he could and looked towards the taller Page, who it seemed had also regained his feet. At the other's nod, he nodded back before darting forward his right hand swinging out in a flat strike towards the other's arm. Making the first move really wasn't Athene's thing and wasn't something he was particularly good at - but now was as good a time as any to try working on it.

Shang took a stance as Athene darted toward him and swung out. He went to move into Athene's personal space, spinning toward him and feeling the other's hand connect with his back, with a small amount of impact, but not too much where it overly hurt.
He quickly went to stick his right foot right and slightly bent behind the eternal's left foot hoping to be able to push out against his shoulders and send Athene's sprawling to the ground once more.
It was an easier move to accomplish because you were mostly tripping your opponent and using their own weight against them.

The trouble with being the one to make the first move, was that it gave the opponent the opportunity to come up with a counter and although Athene's hand was able to connect with the Page, he was unable to avoid being tripped for the second time that evening. As he fell, Athene struck out as best he could in an attempt to yank Shangri-la down as he tumbled.

They both had two hits, but it seemed Athene was destined to win this as went down catching Shang vest and belt and yanking him down as well. Shang tried to catch himself but all he could really do was avoid falling on top of the smaller boy.
He ended up landing hard on his shoulder and rolling right now the mat, from the moment and his desire not to crush Athene. He was taller and heavier which did not make for a comfortable blow at all.
Shang groaned sitting up and rubbing his shoulder feeling a bit dazed, after such rough tumble. "Looks like you win. I think that definitely counts as 3. I'm going to feel that tomorrow. Are you okay? I didn't fall you did I." He wasnt sure, he been to preoccupied trying not to do that!

It worked, Athene's hand managing to snag onto the Page's vest and belt his falling weight helping to unbalance the other. He hadn't thought about the consequences of the particular move however, it only belatedly occuring to him that he'd set things up to get himself squished. Letting go of Shangri-la Athene tucked his head in, his hand smacking the mat as he'd been taught as he tried to brace himself for when the taller Page fell on him. Except the other didn't, managing to somehow avoid him when he landed on the mat. He sat up and looked over at the Page, his voice rueful as he admitted "You definitely gave me a run for it." He shook his head at Shangri-la's question on whether he'd fallen on him "I'm fine - you missed me" then a concerned note crept into his as he added "Are you okay?"
