████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ My Storyxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

About: Nanami definitely was one of the more fortunate ones as far as childhoods go. She was born to a young college student and her soldier husband. The two, although intelligent and madly in love, just didn't have the resources to raise a baby. With Nanami's father overseas most of the time and her mother trying to make it into medical school, a baby was the last thing they needed. While abortion was not an option with their set of beliefs, they were both smart and mature enough to arrange to have the baby adopted the moment it was born.

Nanami was only moments old when she was passed from her birth mother to her adopted mother. Her parents were smart, capable, and had already secured themselves a stable lifestyle. They lived out on Nirvani, owned a successful business, and prided themselves as being one of the upper class families of the island. Nanami had practically everything she could need, as did her brother, Yuuto, who was adopted a few years later. Nanami was raised to be a polite, quiet, little doll of a girl, which she was for a good amount of time. She did her homework, she was polite and quiet around adults, and she never argued or got into fights. She did what her parents told her, and for a while she was happy like that.

The summer she was thirteen she met Nate, a fourteen year old boy in town visiting family. She hadn't met many people from off the island before, and he was drawn by her sweet, feminine appearance. It was a summer of firsts. The two were infatuated with each other, and every moment they had free, they would spend together. Unfortunately, Nanami's mother, disillusioned by her mild-mannered daughter, never bothered to explain birth control to the girl, so when one thing led to the other and Nanami lost her virginity, it resulted in a pregnancy. However, by the time she discovered this, Nate had returned to the mainland. Her parents were shocked to find that their little girl was pregnant, and deeply humiliated. They had a reputation to maintain, of course. They urged their daughter to get rid of it, but by this point Nanami was hitting her rebellious streak, and she resisted. She acted out as long as she could, just to spite them. That was the last straw for her parents. They were too embarrassed to face their friends and coworkers, so they sold their business, gave Nanami the money, and left.

That spring, she gave birth to her daughter, Haruka. It was a rough few years as Nanami juggled school, working, and caring for a baby. She just barely graduated, and quickly fell into the workforce. She was determined to be independent by all means possible, and she didn't want to have to rely on the kindness of her neighbors for too long.

When she was twenty, her brother graduated from high school, and she went to visit him. It was during this trip to the States that she discovered tattooing. She fell in love with it immediately, and set about right away to get her license and to perfect her craft. When she returned, she rented out a friend's sun room and opened her own tattoo parlor. She had been practically adopted into this family as a teenager, and so when the family decided to move back to the mainland to be closer to family, they sold the house to Nanami at a much cheaper price. Her life fell together when she was twenty-five. She was a business owner, she owned her own home, and Haruka, at that point eleven years old, was healthy and happy. Only once did she ever contact Nate. Once she felt mature and stable enough, she sent him a letter with a photo of Haruka. She got a reply, but she hasn't opened the letter yet. Although she prefers to downsize her past to nothing but a slight inconvenience, she's still afraid of repeating her parents' reaction, so she keeps the sealed envelope in her dresser drawer.

The past decades have featured some of the best years of her life. Despite a mild early midlife crisis and some confidence issues when Haruka began to grow independent, Nanami enjoyed her thirties immensely, finding a nice balance between work, her relationship with her daughter, and her friendships, Hayden and Gemma especially. She even tried to reconnect with her parents, and although they still don't get along, her father's death forced her and her mother to be civil. She also enjoyed a short relationship with Hayden, but unfortunately, it just wasn't meant to be, and the two separated amicably, and she returned to being single.

However, her forties were a struggle at the beginning. Although her relationship with her mother was better than it had been most of her life, she began to be bothered by arthritis in her hand, impeding her work. With Haruka grown and out of the house, she also had to face a certain change in lifestyle. As she progressed through her forties, she experienced an off and on series of small crises, mostly regarding getting older and facing a future without marriage or more children. It was a relatively painful process, but Nanami is proud to say that now that she's in her sixth decade, she's quite content being an independent, unmarried older lady. She has her job, her house, her daughter, her almost-son-in-law, and grandson, and a woman couldn't ask for more. At least, that's what she says. Her health is deteriorating a lot faster than she had hoped, though.
